Call off the search, we have your steak and seafood stops lined up here. We’ve rounded up some of the most acclaimed restaurants in Atlanta (and the Southeast, in some cases) for a carnivore’s favorite land-and-sea food pairing.

HAL’S This steak staple is considered by many to serve up the best cuts in the South. The smoky steakhouse has called Buckhead home for over 25 years, and the steady stream of devoted regulars can’t seem to stop singing its praises. The old-school stop is known for its lean, 20-ounce bone-in ribeye and succulent 12-ounce filet mignon, both drenched in butter sauce. In the aquatic arena, the sea bass has been racking up rave reviews for years. Now that’s surf and turf done right! 30 Old Ivy Road, Buckhead, 404.261.0025. www.hals.net. $$$ MARCEL This ultra-premium steakhouse showcases an array of USDA Prime steaks that may be the highest-quality cuts available in Atlanta. Try the exceptional 14-ounce bone-in filet monsieur or enormous 30-ounce Porterhouse (for two) doused in Sauce Diane or Brandy au Poivre. Don’t forget to add lobster, jumbo lump crab or Alaskan King crab to create the quintessential surf-and-turf experience. Complement your cut with flavorful sides—we love the pommes Dauphinoise and creamedcorn gratin. 1170 Howell Mill Road, Westside, 404.665.4555. www. marcelatl.com. $$$$ 101 STEAK One of Atlanta’s newest steakhouses, 101 Steak hit the scene with a mouthwatering bang. Start with the Wagyu beef carpaccio, which is served on a wooden board topped with garlic horseradish aioli, parmesan, gaufrette potaOysters at The Optimist
toes and sour gherkins. Then, pick your steak based on your preferences—we can’t stop dreaming about the 14-ounce New York Strip. “Arm candy” for the cuts include Maine lobster tail, jumbo shrimp, Oscar and soft-shell crab. Don’t miss the impressive wine list (ask for sommelier Chris Reid’s expert guidance) and craft cocktails. 3621 Vinings Slope SE, Vinings, 770.805.8855. www.101steakatl.com. $$$ CAPE DUTCH Cape Dutch is like a portal to a vineyarddraped countryside. many dishes cooked on the “braai” (Afrikaans for “grill”). Impeccably prepared proteins like elk chop and lamb shank neighbor the likes of wood-grilled whole branzino and flaky seared sea bass. Don’t forget to cap off your meal with the silky-smooth and insanely delicious

Belgian chocolate soup. 1782 Cheshire Bridge Road NE, 404.343.0313. www.capedutchrestaurant.com. $$$ THE OPTIMIST Atlanta chef and restaurateur Ford Fry may have emblazoned the city with seven new restaurants in 2015, but his crowning jewel remains The Optimist. The chic restaurant embodies coastal living—from tangy cocktails to delicious starters (seafood gumbo, mussels in crabby-coconut broth, fried clam roll), roasted fish dishes and a wine list heavy in coastal selections. Don’t miss the charred Spanish octopus and duck fat-poached swordfish. 914 Howell Mill Road, Westside, 404.477.6260. www. theoptimistrestaurant.com. $$$ MCKENDRICK’S STEAK HOUSE For more than two decades, this locally-owned steakhouse has made a name for itself as the restaurant for high-quality meats and superfresh seafood (delivered daily, in fact). Opt for a perfectly charred, 12-ounce center-cut filet or a 14-ounce veal chop accompanied by sides like creamed spinach or oven-roasted okra. Seafood lovers can choose from South-African lobster tail, East and West Coast oysters, tuna tartare, jumbo Alaskan King crab, and many other options. The acclaimed menu is complemented by an extensive wine list that has also received its share of accolades. Park Place, 4505 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody, 770.512.8888. www.mckendricks.com. $$$$ BONES Known for business lunches and fancy dinners (since 1979, at that), this old-school mecca of steak is known for prime cuts, fresh seafood and Maine lobster cooked to perfection. This stop feels more like a private club than a restaurant thanks to its timeless interiors, epic wine list and impeccable service. Try the mixed grill if you can’t choose just one dish—it includes filet mignon, lamb chops and signature pheasant sausage. 3130 Piedmont Road NE, Buckhead, 404.237.2663. www.bonesrestaurant.com. $$$$ 9

WHERE NOW Atlanta CUISINE SCENE
Feast Your Eyes At these Atlanta restaurants, exceptional dishes enchant your taste buds and surround you in the aroma of freshly made fare while your eyes feast on gorgeous views.
Riverfront seating makes the most of Canoe’s scenic setting.
Nikolai’s Roof sparkles beautifully at sunset.
Tucked among the serene banks of the Chattahoochee River, Canoe feels like a different world. In reality, this dining-scene mainstay is a 15-minute drive from downtown. Take in the ethereal river views on adirondack chairs or meander through the winding trails before or after your meal. The New-American menu focuses on seasonal specialties and game. Closer intown sits another eatery that embraces its natural setting: Linton’s, the only full-service restaurant at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Sit inside for the fine-dining experience or opt for the open-air rooftop for sweeping city views that jut from behind the garden’s lush landscapes. You must purchase admission to the garden in order to access the restaurant. Make a day of it by exploring the gardens before ending the night with a scenic meal at Linton’s. Canoe, 4199 Paces Ferry Rd SE, Vinings, 770.432.2663. www.canoeatl.com; Linton’s, 1345 Piedmont Ave. NE, Midtown, 404-585-2061. www. lintonsinthegarden.com
THE RUSSIAN STANDARD Celebrating its fourth decade in service, Nikolai’s Roof still serves up one of the best views in the city thanks to its perch atop the Hilton in the heart of Downtown Atlanta. Chef Stephanie Alderete creates a masterful menu that draws influence from traditional French and Russian recipes. The luxurious European dining experience is matched by an equally elegant interior that glimmers as the sun sets. Dazzle your taste buds with the Bergundy escargot tart, herbcrusted lamb chops and sweet corn lobster bisque. Finish strong with the glorious signature Grand Marnier soufflé crowned by almond crème fraiche. 255 Courtland St. NE, 404.221.6362. www.nikolaisroof.com

THE SWEET SPOT This swanky new sushi restaurant opened only recently in Atlanta’s trendy Westside neighborhood, and already it’s made a name for itself as a local hot spot thanks to a buzzing atmosphere and sweeping city views. Housed in a former foundry—hence the building’s name, Westside Ironworks—this eatery makes full use of its repurposed home with an expansive rooftop that perfectly shows off the stunning just-over-yonder skyline views. The bar draws crowds on weekends, while an ample menu of ultra-fresh nigiri, rolls, creative appetizDining at the Sun Dial is a feast for the senses.

HEAD IN THE CLOUDS Ask an Atlantan where the best view in town is, and they’ll surely mention the iconic Sun Dial Restaurant, Bar & View. Ride the glass elevator up 71 stories of the Westin Peachtree Plaza—the tallest hotel in the Western Hemisphere—to see why this is a go-to for first dates, marriage proposals and other occasions. The restaurant features three breathtaking levels: a revolving, white-tablecloth dining area, a revolving bar and a stationary viewing level ($8 adults, $4 ages 6-12). 210 Peachtree St. NE, Downtown, 404.589.7506. www.sundialrestaurant.com

Heavenly Sights Apart from being sprawling neighborhood hot spots, Six Feet Under’s Grant Park and Westside locations both make claim to two of the best rooftops in the city. Not only are both locations of this seafood-centric restaurant perfectly positioned to offer skyline views, but the Grant Park outpost also overlooks Oakland Cemetery, providing a scenic onetwo punch. A cemetery view may seem ghoulish to some, but we’re not talking about any old graveyard here. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and regarded as one of the finest Victorian cemeteries in the U.S., the 48-acre cemetery is a showplace of sculpture and architecture, a botanical preserve and a quiet retreat. Gothic Revival and neoclassical mausoleums are scattered throughout the property, which is the final resting place of many notable Atlanta historical figures including the city’s founding fathers, 24 former mayors, “Gone With the Wind” author Margaret Mitchell, golf legend Bobby Jones and nearly every person who died in Atlanta prior to 1884. Like we said, it’s no ordinary graveyard and certainly no ordinary view. As for the menu, expect the kinds of classics you’d find in a small coastal town, like gator bites, fried catfish, oysters, peel-and-eat shrimp and, our editor’s favorite, a fisherman’s pound of Snow Crab legs. Grant Park, 437 Memorial Drive SE, 404.523.6664; Westside, 685 11th St. NW, 404.810.0040. www.sixfeetunderatlanta.com

Ghost Hunters
Horror Hounds
First-hand stories of ghostly sightings abound at
Wander within the aptly named (1) 13 Stories and you’ll find 13 unlucky floors filled with terrifying characters, including a host of creepy creatures that will make your skin crawl. www.13storieshauntedhouse.com Hold on to your blanky, because (2) Netherworld Haunted House will make you scream like a baby. In fact, the production-quality sets, makeup, costumes and believably horrifying actors had The Travel Channel calling this “the most over-the-top haunted house on earth.” www.fearworld.com From Oct. 28-30, (3) Walker Stalker Con brings to Atlanta stars, effects artists and authors from some of the most popular horror TV shows and films, including "The Walked Dead," "American Horror Story" and "Night of the Living Dead." www.walkerstalkercon.com/atlanta
(1) The Fox Theatre, an iconic Atlanta landmark in and of itself. Hour-long ghost tours bring these tales of the undead to life while granting access to areas of the theater rarely available to the public. Tours offered on Oct. 9, 11-12, 14 and 30. www.foxtheatre.org Equipped with only
lanterns, (2) Ghosts of Marietta docents guide you through the streets of one of Atlanta’s most haunted cities during this 90-minute tour. Follow a trail of documented sightings while hearing the tales of Marietta’s most notorious spirits. www.ghostsofmarietta.com Atlanta’s oldest house museum, (3) Wren's Nest was the home of Joel Chandler Harris, author of the Uncle Remus Tales. Pay a visit to meet the spirits whose voices have been captured by paranormal investigators. www. wrensnest.org
Fall Aficionados Venture to Ellijay, the state's apple mecca, for the 45th annual (1) Georgia Apple Festival. The festival features crafting demos and handmade goods from over 300 vendors. Tickets: $10. Oct. 8-9, 15-16. www.georgiaapplefestival.org Hot air balloons light up the night sky as an Oktoberfest party and tons of other fall activities take over Kennesaw during the breathtaking (2) Owl-O-Ween Hot Air Balloon Festival. www. owl-o-ween.com On Oct. 22-23, Smyrna hosts its annual (3) Fall Jonquil Festival with gorgeous goods made by Southeastern artisans. Puppet shows, live music and fun kids' activities are also on the docket. Free. www.jrmmanagement.com Stone Mountain Park’s Pumpkin Festival includes a trick-or-treat scavenger hunt, a parade, costume and pie-eating contests, and more.
