From the desk of the Editor

Greetings! Welcome to the world of Simply Dela Jouere Fashion & Magazine. A magazine designed to Educate, Empower and to Entertain. You are cordially invited to experience fashion forward concepts and designs firsthand in this unique setting. Again, I have to say “A man’s gift maketh room for him and bringeth him before great men.” (Proverbs 18:16) Simply Dela Jouere is becoming stronger and stronger with each issue. We vowed to bring you the best of the best and God has truly been faithful to stand true to his word by allowing us to do just that. Fashions fade into unmemorable trends and dictates one’s life and attitudes. However style is an innate ability that exudes confidence, elegance and class that sets one’s individuality apart from the rest. I believe Coco Chanel said it best; “Fashion changes, but style endures.”

Celebrity Designer “The creative force of “La Villa de L'Amour” was just named "The Hidden Jewel" of Dayton's Fashion Week by Inside Couture.” L'Amour is an Artist that offers Excitement, Ethnicity and Elegance on the Runway. This designer continues to create exciting, innovative designs that compete and compare favorably with those from well-known European and American designers stated by Johnson Publications Inc. late director Mrs. Eunice W. Johnson for Ebony Fashion Fair. L’Amour was one of the featured designers for the incomparable Ebony Fashion Fair from 1987 up to the time the traveling show ended recently. During several years of perfecting his craft in fine arts, L'Amour grew increasingly weary and was ready for a new angle. After being introduced to fashion illustration, he knew this would be his new passion for creation. Starting out with a $35 sewing machine, he began altering clothes and selling his new designs for as low as $10. Now, of course, many of his designs are going for quite a bit more, but can still be considered very reasonable for original designs. Currently, working in Dayton, Ohio, "It’s been challenging being in this field and working primarily in my hometown, says L'Amour, but moving to New York for almost six years helped me from being eaten by conservative mid-west influences. Those years in New York gave me a chance to really explore a serious career in fashion design. Coming back home allowed me to learn the business and test a more conservative market.” This Ohio native, with a major New York mentality, specializes in wools, leathers and suede garments that are "Art for Wear." Among his clients are Ebony Fashion Fair, Bride Noir, Vivica A. Fox, Bill Cosby, Miles Davis, A.J. Jamaal, Bill Dukes, Alvin & Marvin of the famous award-winning gospel group Take 6, and Eddie Griffin just to name a few. This year L'Amour is influenced by a trio infusion of late 50's-early 60's, Asian and Bohemian for men and old Hollywood glamour for women. He will continue to use his energies to fuel his passion for creating and achieving in this field.

Up close and Personal

SD: L’Amour Ameer is such a unique name. Where does the name come from and what does it mean? LA: Yes, it is unique and I am asked that question quite often. I didn’t like the name at first but it eventually grew on me. I was named by my mother’s sister and the name is French. L’Amour means “love” and Ameer means “prince, one in charge, one who’s in control.” Now.. L’Amour Ameer is who I am. SD: What made you choose fashion design as a career? LA: Design basically chose me. I have always been an artist and come from a family of artists. My mother was a vocalist. I have a younger brother that sings, dances, and acts. I have an older brother that’s in a band and also a sister that’s a hair designer. In my early years, I was always drawing, painting, sculpting or crocheting. I made my first outfit when I was 7/8 years old. My grandmother used to sew. So, I would watch her and that’s how I was able to pick up on certain techniques. In addition, I was asked to do fashion illustrations in High School and loved it! Winning several awards, honorable mentions, “best dressed’ in HS, etc. So, my career took off right after high school. Standing 6’4”, I became a model and also became hooked on dancing which ultimately led to a dance career. Fashion was basically evolved around dancing. So, fashion kinda found me. However, my goal was to study Business Administration/Business Law which I ultimately did but could not get away from fashion. “ Fashion is my wife, she found me and I don’t want to divorce her”. SD: How was it to be a featured designer for the world’s largest traveling fashion production; Ebony Fashion Fair? LA: It was an experience that is beyond words. I was with them from 1987 until a few years ago when they decided to discontinue the show. SD: Who are your favorite designers? LA: Besides myself? LOL…..I really don’t look at a lot of other designers’ work for the sake of having my own creative ideas. I try to concentrate on me. However, there are a few that I have studied that have been in the forefront; Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar De La Renta, Christian LaCroix, Alexander McQueen, Norma Kamali, and Willi Smith to name a few.

About L'Amour A kind open heart and artistically in tuned man who knows where he's from, where he is and where he wants to go. “I'm a "people person" but I'm very private and now pretty much a home body…”

Not Just A Pretty Face

Miss North Carolina USA 2013

Who is Ashley Mills?

Ashley is a woman with a vision and a mission to fulfill. She will not stop until her mission or purpose is completed. She is extraordinary in every way and very strong willed. She's a model, actress, innovator, philanthropist and most importantly, the next Miss USA! Aside from all that, she is a native of Orlando, Florida. “I love the sunshine state and I am proud of it”, states Ashley. She moved to Raleigh, North Carolina with her mother after her parents separated. After graduating from high school, she attended North Carolina State University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Media Communications and a minor in TV/Film Production.

What are some of the things you enjoy doing in your spare time; hobbies? Well, when and if I have any spare time, I actually spend my time alone. I like having my quiet time with no one else around. I will often read books or write in my journal to help convey my thoughts. I'm extremely close my parents and family. So, I talk with them quite often. Most importantly....I am a Harry Potter fanatic; completely, utterly, and totally obsessed. I'm also a fashion geek. I eat, sleep and breathe fashion. So, you'll typically find me with a fashion magazine or two in my bag. In addition, I love online shopping. I am an extemporaneous coupon-ER! I'm all about saving money.

Take us back to the moment/night you were crowned. What was the first thing that ran across your mind? Honestly, the night I was crowned is sort of a blur to me. I was so emotionally overwhelmed, that the reaction I had practiced a few nights before was completely thrown out the window. I think the first question I asked, "Did I really win? Is this thing (referring to the crown) really on my head?" It was such a humbling moment for me. Every day I thank God for finally blessing me with the desires of my heart.

What inspired you to begin the journey into pageants? You know, the world of pageantry was something that I sort of fell into. I wasn't raised in it and you could not have told me ten years ago that I would be a pageant girl; let alone Miss NC USA. I was 17 and received a letter from RPM Productions, the organization that owns the Miss NC USA pageant. They said someone had sent in my picture suggesting me for the Miss NC Teen USA pageant. I initially threw the letter away. I thought to myself, "Ashley you are not a pageant girl." However, a few weeks later my dad came to visit me and we stumbled across the Miss Teen USA pageant on NBC and I was totally glued to the TV watching it. The girls seemed as if they were having so much fun and seemed so confident. At that point, I told my dad I could do a pageant as well. So, no more than a day later, I wrote a letter to RPM Productions stating that I was still interested in competing. I was so determined, I sent the letter by registered mail. I raised all the money to compete that year and placed in the top ten out of 96 girls. Also, I was afforded the opportunity to meet Chelsea Cooley who was the current Miss USA at the pageant. She won Miss North Carolina USA the year before. So, from that point on, I knew I set a goal to one day win Miss NC USA and go on to win Miss USA. I am one step closer to that dream coming into fruition.

Why did you choose “Bullying” as your platform? I chose Bullying as my platform because I was bullied all four years of high school after moving to NC. Even to this day, as an adult, I still can't explain to people why I ever became a target of bullying. All I remember is, the pain I felt while being bullied, is something I never wanted to feel again. As time passed, I've realized that what I went through in high school wasn't merely for me. It was an opportunity to use my testimony to make a difference in someone else's life who may not have as much courage as I did to stand up for themselves. Becoming Miss NC USA has giving me a voice that will now make more people pay more close attention to this epidemic. I hope that I will soon be able to take this voice nationally as Miss USA. A child should never be afraid to go to school out of fear of being bullied. Schools are meant to be a safe haven.

Business Spotlight

RAJJ Investment Properties, Inc.

Tell us about your business. What product or services you provide, and who your target audience is? RAJJ Investment Properties Inc. is comprised of two different business entities. The first is Express Tax Professionals. It is an accounting and tax preparation service. I am an accountant by degree. I fell in love with income tax preparation after working with the IRS program V.I.T.A. (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance). A free tax preparation service for low-income families and individuals. After completing my military service obligation, I opened this company in 2003 and my first client was a Real Estate mortgage company. After seeing the income possibilities with real estate, I opened RAJJ Investment Properties.

always plan available capital to pay all bills at least one year in advance. It takes time for customers to realize that you and your service (s) are available. The most important thing is to make sure you have the time to commit to the business/venue.

" ll I can strive to be is the absolute best possible verA sion of myself."

What makes you believe in your product/service?

What is the number one business goal you plan to accomplish over the next year? My main goal is to maintain.

Jerome Bell, Sr. President/CEO What have been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business?

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?

In today’s computer savvy society, the internet, and the use of my website. Even with the changing times, I still believe that the most effective marketing tool is word of mouth. Treat people with kindness and they will pass your information on to their friends and family.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment to date? I recently celebrated nine successful years in business. In today market, many have come and gone. I have maintained. It has not been the easier thing to do with the real estate slope that Fayetteville, Fort Bragg, and the surround areas have seen.

What is the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers? When contemplating a new business/venue

I am working on my PHD. I am a member of the Joint Appearance Commission for the city of Fayetteville. I just recently joined the Marine Corp Association, Shawn Kinsley Marine Corp Detachment. This organization is a group of marine Vets that meet once a month to tackle community issues; assisting elderly with home repairs, feeding the homeless. We, as an organization, tackle a wide variety of matters that aide in the service of our community.

I love to swim and read. Books are my best friend. My forte would be biographies and autobiographies. I just recently started reading fiction books thanks to my father. He suggested that I add a little fun and adventure to my library.

Owning your own business gives you the freedom to work a schedule that is convenient for you and your family.

My greatest influence is and has been my mother. My mother’s life was not an easy life. She was a drug abuser. We, as a family, went through some extremely tough times with my mother and her addiction. I know that education was going to be my savior. She would also talk about her dreams and the things that she envisioned for her children. She always wanted us to do and be better than she was. It is because of her ability to conquer her addiction and never give up on herself or her children is the reason I am the businessperson I am today.

(or have you just completed a big project ~ reached a milestone, etc.) If so, please tell us about it.

What do you do for fun/ relaxation?

Training is the key to everything. While working with a tax preparation company in Virginia, one of their training policies where that the clients and the preparers where not to converse. Their motto was “In and Out” – the more clients you serviced, the more income you generated for the company. For me that was a big problem. I felt that to be through and effective for the clients, you needed to talk to them – you needed to show them kindness and concern. There had to be a connection. Find out what their needs truly are and maybe offer other services. Once your clients realize that you have a genuine concern they will be loyal and continue to do business with you year after year.

Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur in the first place?

By: Rita Ward

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years? Patience ….you are never going to get what you want when you what it. In the world of real estate, you may have to work with a client at least 3-6 months. However, you have to stay focused and be there till the end.

Are there any resources or tools you’d like to share with other small business owners that have helped you run your business? If yes, please describe (and include links if available). Any book on the industry that you are in and any/all selfimprovement book are always great resources. The SBA (Small Business Administration) has great material; www.sba.gov. Most of the services that they offer are actually free. If you have a mentor, great; they are full of knowledge. If you do not, get one today. A mentor can share their problems and solutions to just about any situation.

Do you have any new projects coming up Simply DelaJouere Fashion Magazine®

How do you juggle the demands of owning a business and family? The last week of every month is my time. Time to spend with my family, travel and of course read a good book.

What keeps you motivated to continue in business… 1) in times when business is slow 2) in times of frustration 3) in times of competition Motivation has to come from within. You have to have a written plans and goals for you and your business. Once these goals are in writing, stay focused. From time to time, you may have to add to those goals. Always ask yourself what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong. Learn to make adjustments according to the honest answers. With proper planning, there should not be any frustrations when business is slow. As far as completion, I do not try to compete with the bigger real estate companies. Not everyone wants or desires a big company to handle their affairs.

If you had to eulogize Jerome Bell Sr. in two or three sentences, what would you say? Jerome was a family man. He loved his kids and his parents. He loved his best friend, his books. SD

Continued from page 13 How has your life changed as a result of becoming Miss NC USA? After winning Miss NC USA, my life changed literally overnight. I've become an instant public figure and role model for children across the state. It has given me the chance travel to places I would not have otherwise been afforded the opportunity. In addition, this is my official ticket to compete for Miss USA. I think am most grateful for the many people I've met thus far. I can't wait to see where this journey will lead me. I've grown so much in the last 3 months and I'm eager to see the type of person I will become by the time my year of reign is over.

With your busy schedule, how do you find time to juggle everything on a day to day basis? Honestly, I am the worst at time management. So, I literally have to write things down in order to get things done on a day to day basis. My publicist helps a lot with keeping me organized. This is a job I surely can't do alone. Almost every single day, a schedule change takes place. So, I just sort of roll with the punches. I am a planner but I've also learned to add in a certain amount of spontaneity in my life! I really think it’s the only way to maintain sanity as a titleholder.

What is it that you enjoy the most about being the new Miss NC USA?

What does family mean to you and why? Family is the most important thing a person can possess. I say this because even when you face challenges, they tend to be the only ones who remain by your side; steadfast and strong. My parents have been amazing. They have stuck by me now more than ever. Which is actually surprising for initially they didn't want me to compete this year. However, they supported me anyway.

t

What advice would you give young ladies that may have the desire to follow in your footsteps? I would say to those young ladies who are looking to follow in my steps to stay true to yourself and never allow anyone, even if it is family, to keep you from achieving your dreams. There are many distractions throughout life that may come. During those times, your character will be tested most. Don't allow your fear to keep you from going after your heart’s desires. It's only when you throw yourself into something that you will accomplish it.

I really enjoy having the opportunity to travel and meet new people. That's what his job is really all about. Everyday, more and more, I've realized that winning title was never really about me at all. We are blessed to be a blessing to others. By becoming Miss NC USA 2013, it has given me the opportunity to be the voice for North Carolina and make a difference in people's lives in ways I never thought possible. This is what I love most. I could actually do this for the rest of my life if the Miss Universe Organization would allow me.

If you could visit one place in the world, where would it be and why? The one place I'd like to visit would be the Vatican City in Italy. I'm really into historic monuments. Especially, after studying abroad in the Czech Republic. While in college, I fell in love with the architecture and made up my mind that one day I would return to Italy; maybe to even live. I could totally see myself living in Europe again.

What do you feel have been your greatest accomplishment?

How do you define success or what makes one successful?

I really feel like becoming Miss NC USA 2013 has been my greatest accomplishment thus far. I'm 24 and I've been exposed to so much over the last few years that many don’t ever get the opportunity to experience. I am a college graduate and I'm very proud of receiving my degree. However, I really feel that becoming a state wide public figure and role model with the opportunity to compete for Miss USA is hard to beat at this point. I love what I do as a titleholder. I am truly humbled by being chosen to represent this state. There were so many worthy young ladies. To come out on top, as the winner, is something that I really cherish! SD

My definition of success is when an individual is personally satisfied with who they are and what they have accomplished in life. I guess I'd say one might feel complete once they've reached a certain level of success. However, for me, I try to never become complacent. This life is about constant growth and change. So, if I achieve one goal, even at the age of 50; I'll still continue to reach for more until the day I die. It's the only way I know how to live. I'm not sure I'll ever be completely satisfied. There will always be a new goal I'd like to accomplish.

What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood represents one of the most joyful experiences a woman can have to share knowledge, wisdom, and love with her children. Motherhood also means sacrifices and the dedication of time, patience, moral, physical, and emotional support to create guidelines and secure the bond between mother and child.

As a mother, a day of relaxation consists of? A day of relaxation would include watching my favorite television programs, listening to music, shopping, and/or getting my hair and nails done. Recently my passion for cooking has served as a form of relaxation in which preparing family dinners has provided the opportunity to stay involved and continue to share precious time with my children.

When I think of motherhood, I think of sacrifice, being compassionate. Motherhood to me means, pain, love BUT life that's beautiful, something two people created, my extensions. Most of all a beautiful feeling the babies are happy and healthy.

As a mother, a day of relaxation consists of? A day of relaxation: hmmm...I don't know what that is: how about hours? That would be a drawn bath, with extra bubbles, listening to some music, with candles lit and just RELAX and soak some troubles away! ha, ha NOT!

What advice would you give younger mothers?

What advice would you give younger mothers? I would advise younger mothers to educate and inform themselves as much as possible so that when the challenges of motherhood present themselves they can be well prepared. I would also advise the importance of planning, asking questions, and continuing to strive for personal success which will influence and provide greater opportunities for everyone Great gift Ideas! down the line.

Know GOD! Stay focused, keeping your mentality is essential when you are a young mother because you will need to have a clear and rational mind when raising your children. You can't let negatives in life interfere with the positives, push forward no matter what. You can't Lose Yourself....just because you have children doesn't mean you can't do things you once enjoyed prior to having children.... LIVE! Lastly, Lead by Example: Remember your children are watching every move, so when you teach them right and wrong, make sure that you are actually practicing what you "Preach". Love Hard, and Enjoy Life" !

I have four children, three boys, and one daughter. They are all healthy and are out on their own. Not only am I a mother to my four children but I have a lot of others who think of me as their mother as well. They come to me for advice and counseling. I have always encouraged my children to put God first in their lives and always reach for the sky.

As a mother, a day of relaxation consists of? A day of relaxation for me is praying, shopping, and exercise. A day at the spa is always fun and relaxing.

What advice would you give younger mothers? The advice I would give to young mothers is to always love and protect your children. Do not let any harm come to them by any means what so ever. Talk to your children; find out what is truly on their minds. Let them know they can come to you day or night with all situations. Do not be afraid to tell them how much you love them and show them love. Hug them, kiss them, be an active part of their life. The most important thing is to take your children to church and introduce them to God, Teach early in life that God is the way Day them and with him, they will never fail.

What makes a father a father? I think it's essential that I point out that there's a vast difference between a father and a dad. Any male can be a dad but only a man can be a father. Every male is not called into fatherhood. A father is an individual that is committed, dedicated, loving, strong, knowledgeable, God-fearing, provides, spends time, etc. Most importantly, as fathers, you must spend quality time and remember there's no measure on the quantity of time. I learned how to be an exceptional father, by mimicking my Heavenly Father.

One day my wife asked me, "How do you know how to be a great father to my children and you have no biological children of your own". I answered, "Most people What advice would you give to younger learn how to be great at something by experience fathers? and involvement.
