CAPACETE DE OURO AND CBA AWARDS: PROMOTING APPRECIATION FOR BRAZILIAN AUTO RACING AND RACING DRIVERS
The BRB Apresenta: 26º Capacete de Ouro e 2ª Premiação CBA [BRB Presents: the 26th Capacete de Ouro [Gold Helmet] Awards and 2nd CBA [Confederação Brasileira de Automobilismo, or Brazilian Automobile Confederation] Awards] (under the tenure of CBA President Giovanni Guerra) event took place in Brasília, in the Brazilian Federal District, on April 19, 2023. Once again, it successfully and historically celebrated the achievements of Brazilian racing drivers on tracks in Brazil and worldwide. About 300 drivers: including the winners and first runners-up of the Brazilian categories of the CBA Awards, as well as all those nominated to the 22nd Capacete de Ouro Awards by a rotating committee of journalists and experts were awarded during an special ceremony organized by Banco BRB, which supports Brazilian motorsports, to mark the history of competitors and auto racing.
The event is a moment of glory for racing drivers, it also recognized the work of State Federations, with which competitors are affiliated and many of which organize high-level races and competitions, and provide technical support for auto racing events, from Kart to Stock Car races, from Off-Road Rallies to Formula E races.
Owing to Capacete de Ouro’s tradition of credibility and impartiality, all Brazilian racers nominated for the award pride themselves on their results on Brazilian and international racing tracks. Many competitors stand out and earn respect for their great achievements in different races, so those receiving the Capacete de Ouro trophy represent all those who worked hard and shone during an entire season.
In turn, the CBA Awards are endorsed by an institutional and professional body which, having earned the recognition of the FIA for its excellence, is opening new avenues jointly with the entire auto racing community. Seriously committed to fulfilling its role, the CBA works to expand the access to a career in auto racing and to facilitate the careers of racing drivers, teams, sports executives, promoters, sponsors, commissioners, sporting directors and everyone involved in auto racing, with efficient attitudes on and off racing tracks.
The Capacete de Ouro and the CBA Awards are the ultimate recognition; however, all drivers should keep in mind that it is by achieving results consistently in the day-to-day routine of car races and showing dedication to auto racing that new goals are set and attained. And one day, they will certainly be recognized for their effort.

Fabiana Ecclestone
FIA’s Vice-President for Sport for South America
STRENGTHENING LATIN AMERICA IN THE WORLD SCENE
President Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s commitment as the top official of the FIA shows he is working on several fronts not only for motorsports, but also for society by promoting automotive safety and inclusion. This is clear in his choice of Regional Vice-Presidents, and my mission as Vice-President for Sport for South America is to develop and undertake initiatives geared to those points proposed by Mr. Sulayem, in addition to strengthening sports on a regional level.
The FIA, all its member federations and clubs also promote safe, sustainable, and accessible mobility for everyday users worldwide through global initiatives, as well as inclusion and education efforts. As Vice-President for Sport for South America, I have been seeking to expand the footprint of Latin America as a whole in sports.
I have recently had the pleasure of announcing the winner of the FIA Engineering Scholarship, the young Argentine engineer Jessica Chappatte, who received a scholarship to Cranfield University, in the UK, during the General Assembly in Córdoba, Spain, in June this year.
Motorsports are a powerful laboratory for the future. All technological advances, mainly in safety, benefit the general public. The Americas have seen a sharp increase in the interest not only in motorsports, but also in academic specialization in them since this course of study offers opportunities for students otherwise unable
to have the best education in this field. As a result, those students can grow professionally and bring knowledge back to their home countries, thus contributing to the local industry and inspiring future generations.
Our region has been gaining representativeness. Brazil, for example, is a fully established country where auto racing is strong, and the CBA (Brazilian Automobile Confederation) is doing an excellent job. The São Paulo Grand Prix has been attracting increasing interest from the public, media, and sponsors. In addition, Brazil has hosted a stage of the Formula E World Championship for the first time and will be hosting a stage of the FIA WEC, the World Endurance Championship, once again in 2024. As a result, São Paulo is one of the world’s great auto racing capitals and the only one to host all three categories.
This year, we are also going to host the First South American Esports Championship, the grand final of which is scheduled for November 4 and 5, the weekend of the São Paulo Formula One GP, in Interlagos. Electronic sports have been attracting more and more fans, some of whom have even moved from simulators to racing car cockpits. This is another great attraction for the event.
We continue working to bring more international categories to Latin America, as well as create opportunities to build professional skills and promote knowledge sharing. It is a win-win situation all around, especially for auto racing

BRB: A PASSION FOR SPEED
Auto racing has long been delighting the world and attracting fans. And that is not by chance. Motorsports bring people together around the joys of speed, competition, technology, and emotion, just like the world we live in today. Racetracks provide a perfect parallel with the comings and goings of our lives.
Banco BRB and auto racing share the same vision. Initially a regional institution, BRB invested in technology, picked up speed and became competitive. It is a bank of our times. Currently, we are present either physically or digitally in 39 countries, all continents and in over 93% of Brazil.
Sharing values with the world of four wheels, BRB decided to become one of the main supporters of Brazilian auto racing.
We firmly believe in the changing power of auto racing, a motorsport that creates tremendous opportunities to boost not only business, but also the value of brands. By supporting auto racing, we can also provide unique experiences for our customers, making dreams come true and strengthening emotional and affective bonds with the sport and BRB.
We have also been picking up speed since 2019, when we entered a new cycle of change. That is when we first supported auto racing, starting from the largest category in Brazil – the Stock Car Series. We then extended our support to TCR, F4, Rally dos Sertões and now Formula One.
By supporting F1, we will be associating our brand with
the highest class of international racing, cherished in Brazil since the times of Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna. In addition, we are bringing a driver academy to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil and the city in which BRB was born, in line with our mission of promoting economic, social, and human development. Our goal is to develop talents and provide the best conditions for them to compete, thus breaking boundaries and taking the name of Brazil to the top spot on the world’s podiums.
President Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s work at the head of the FIA also emphasizes the role of auto racing in promoting inclusion and strengthens auto racing in Brazil, in South America, and around the world. It is also worth noting the effort of Fabiana Ecclestone, the FIA’s Vice-President for Sport for South America, and of Giovanni Guerra, the President of the Brazilian Automobile Confederation (CBA.)
With a professional and ethical commitment to auto racing, Giovanni and the CBA have been seeking to expand Brazil’s footprint in global auto racing by bringing new categories to Brazil and creating opportunities for Brazilian drivers inside and outside their home country. The races taking place in Brazil are increasingly attracting the interest of the public, the media, and sponsors such as BRB.
Just like auto racing, BRB has a passion for speed. That is why we are running the same race together.

CBA President
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Dear friends of Brazilian auto racing,
As the president of the CBA (Brazilian Automobile Confederation) and a sports lover, I am honored to write this message for this historic edition of Racing Magazine, which marks the second year of my term, of our partnership with the publication and Banco BRB, and of the presentation of Troféu CBA [CBA Trophy] to Brazilian champions and runners-up.
I would like to express my most emotional and deepest GRATITUDE to all thoseon and off racetrackshelping us change Brazilian auto racing, in particular my dear friend Paulo Henrique Rodrigues Costa, the president of Banco BRB. Imbued with an entrepreneurial spirit, he trusted auto racing as a business platform, and now we see good results on all sides.
I thank God for allowing me to fulfill this dream and make it worth every penny from the father and the sponsor, always with a view to promoting appreciation for Brazilian racing drivers, wherever they are. And since we are part of a vigorous South America, Brazilian auto racing can welcome drivers from the entire continent and help strengthen all CODASUR countries.
I would like to thank the promoters of each category in Brazil. I will never forget what I once heard from a great promoter: “The fees we pay to the CBA are no longer fees, but investments in today’s and tomorrow’s auto racing.” And I am very honored to reward this investment with hard work and achievements.
We still have a long way to go. Although far from breaking the record and reaching the top of the podium, we are working around the clock with a wonderful teammy team, which is on the front line and represents all of us.
I thank you, the auto racing community, for our partnership. Let us praise the Lord. He has been working wonders and allowing me not only to make that dream come true, but also to distribute to our auto racing investors the dividends it yields.
Let us continue working together as one. We are on

Lucas Di Grassi Scoops Capacete de
Ouro as 4th Runner-Up in Formula E
Best Brazilian in electric car category wins top auto racing award in Brazil once again International Racing
One of the main drivers in Brazil in recent years, Lucas Di Grassi earned the 26th Capacete de Ouro Award during the ceremony in Brasília, Federal District, on April 19. The grand winner in the Formula Top category, Di Grassi was unable to attend the ceremony organized by RACING Magazine and presented by Banco BRB, but sent a video message to the event guests.
The driver, currently in the Mahindra Racing team in Formula E, won the award for his performance in the electric car category in 2022, when he raced for Venturi, currently Maserati. Di Grassi was not even close to winning the title, which is not to say he did not stand out: He won in London and had fastest laps in Mexico City, Rome, and Marrakesh.
As a result, the Brazilian driver, who has been on the Formula E grid since inception, finished the 2022 Drivers’ Championship ranked fifth, with 126 points at the close of the 16-round season. He also played a key role in Venturi’s second position in the Teams’ Championship, only behind Mercedes.
In addition to Di Grassi, the nominees for the Capacete de Ouro Award in the International Racing category were Sérgio Sette Câmara, who also competes in Formula E; Hélio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan, both of whom raced in the IndyCar Series, full-time and part-time, respectively.

F2 and F1 Champion, and Capacete de Ouro Winner Felipe Drugovich Scoops International Racing Award
Felipe Drugovich was one of the great stars of Brazilian motorsports in 2022. Born in Maringá, Paraná State, Drugovich won Formula 2, the main feeder category for Formula One, an unprecedented achievement in Brazil during the GP2/Formula 2 era. As a result, he received the 26th Capacete de Ouro Award in the International Racing category at the event taking place in Brasília on April 19.
In his third season in Formula 2, Drugovich competed for MP Motorsport, the team with which he had debuted in the category two years earlier. And he dominated the competition, scoring five victories, two of which in Barcelona, taking four pole positions and winning the title in the second-to-last round, the race he won at the Monza Circuit, in Italy.
This stellar performance earned Drugovich, who was unable to attend the ceremony held by RACING Magazine and promoted by Banco BRB, not only the title, but also sponsors and a place as a reserve driver for the Aston Martin team, in Formula One. More recently, Drugovich has taken first place in tests for Formula E with Maserati.

Rubens Barrichello Scoops Capacete de Ouro
Rubens Barrichello, the most celebrated racing driver currently in activity in Brazil, had a particularly special year in 2022. The Brazilian with the most race starts in Formula One history turned 50, won his second Stock Car Pro Series title and received the Capacete de Ouro at the event held in Brasília on April 19.
Barrichello was unable to attend the ceremony organized by RACING Magazine and promoted by Banco BRB, but expressed his gratitude for receiving the top Brazilian auto racing award in a video shown during the ceremony held in the Federal Capital.
Barrichello’s performance during the season was marked by astonishing regularity: only three wins; the sweeping victory in Goiania, in the second round; and a triumph in Santa Cruz do Sul, as well as seven podium finishes. However, the driver from São Paulo was catapulted to the lead of the championship after the worst results were discarded before the last round, which took place at the Interlagos Circuit. Racing in this hometown, Barrichello clinched the title.

When we think of rally racing in Brazil, two names immediately come to mind: Ulysses Bertholdo and Marcelo Dalmut. The driver/co-driver team won the Brazilian Rally Championship once again in 2022; as a result, they received the 26th Capacete de Ouro Award during the event held in Brasília on April 19.
Preparing for a round of the South American Rally Championship, Bertholdo and Dalmut were unable to attend the ceremony organized by RACING Magazine and presented by Banco BRB, but sent a video shown during the event.
The award also recognizes their performance in the Brazilian rally racing championship. Bertholdo scooped the title for an impressive 21st time in 2022 whereas Marcelo Dalmut has only a third of that: seven titles. Both, however, are the greatest rally champions in Brazil.

Bonk won the Brazilian Rotax Mini Max championship and came in second in the Brazilian Cadet championship in 2022.
He received the Capacete de Ouro trophy from the hands of one of the most prominent figures in the history of Brazilian motorsports: Paulo Gomes, winner of four Stock Car titles, during the ceremony in Brazil’s Federal Capital. The driver thanked the journalists from the voting committee, as well as the team that provides support for him at Brazilian kart tracks, and celebrated his award win.
“I’m very happy to have won the Capacete de Ouro, a very important award in any driver’s career. It is a recognition of the effort we make to be on the track. The drought of world titles in Brazilian karting was broken in 2022. Matheus Morgatto pulled off an impeccable race in the last round of the karting world championship last year. As a result, he secured the title and, in the bargain, won the 26th Capacete de Ouro Award at the event held in Brasília on April 19.
Morgatto has always been one of Brazil’s major stars in international karting, but he shone more brightly than ever in the latest Karting World Championship, held at the traditional kart track in Sarno, Italy. Competing in the OK class, he stood out from his rivals, including Brazilian Gabriel Gomez, and went on to score a win that could even be described as smooth.
Morgatto finished the decisive race over two seconds ahead of the world runner-up, Tuukka Taponen, a major star of the Ferrari Driver Academy who joined the extremely competitive Italian F4 grid this year.

Pedro Clerot Celebrates His First Capacete de Ouro
A newcomer won his first Capacete de Ouro during the 26th award ceremony, which took place in Brasília on April 19: Pedro Clerot. The driver, who incidentally lives in Brazil’s Federal Capital, earned the award, given during a ceremony organized by RACING Magazine and presented by Banco BRB, in recognition of his victory in the first season of F4 Brasil [F4 Brazilian Championship], in 2022.
Clerot won seven of the 18 F4 Brasil races of the year, in addition to securing 11 podium finishes and four pole positions. He won the title in the second-to-last round of the season. In view of those stellar results, the voting journalists chosen by RACING Magazine elected him to the Capacete de Ouro.
“This is my first Capacete de Ouro, and I am very happy about this award. It shows how much we evolved last year and that our effort was worth it. I’d like to thank the CBA and Racing Magazine, and I am very happy about this trophy, which will be right next to the one I won from F4 Brasil. This has been my dream since I was a child and now it’s another dream come true,” said Clerot.
This year, Clerot is leaving Brazilian tracks to venture into European auto racing. He will be entering Spanish F4, the latest champion of which is Bulgarian Nikola Tsolov, who is competing in Formula 3 in the current season. The Brazilian driver will be joining the MP Motorsport team.

Moraes and Bentivoglio stood out last season, mainly in Rally dos Sertõesthe main rally raid competition in Brazil and one of the most important worldwide, which started at Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná State, and finished at Salinópolis, Pará State, and lasted 15 days last year.
The team drove a Toyota Hilux Overdrive T1+, a model used in the Dakar, the world’s most important rally raid, and won with an advantage of just over eight minutes over the second-place duo. That performance won both teammates the Capacete de Ouro, in a year in which driver and co-driver were awarded separately.

The number of women in motorsports is increasing, albeit gradually. Granted, there are still few women on racing tracks, but they are no longer so rare, mainly in youth teams. The most iconic of all female Brazilian drivers is Bia Figueiredo, who was honored at the 26th Capacete de Ouro Awards ceremony, held in Brasília on April 19.

In recognition of her contribution to attracting more and more women to motorsports and, consequently, making motorsports more and more equal for women, Bia Figueiredo received a Capacete de Ouro from the hands of Isabel Reis, the longest current serving editor-in-chief of a motorsports publication in Brazil, RACING Magazine.

Capacete de Ouro Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Piquet’s Second Formula One Title
One of the main figures in Brazilian motorsports, Nelson Piquet is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his second Formula One championship win this year. Currently a retired driver and businessman, Piquet won the 1983 Formula One Championship driving for Brabham. He then repeated his feat from 1981 and would do it again in 1987. The anniversary of Piquet’s achievement was celebrated at the 26th Capacete de Ouro Awards ceremony, held in Brasília on April 19.
For the second year in a row, Piquet was on the stage of the top motorsports award in Brazil, which took place once again in its “home”: Brasilia. The former Ensign, BS, Brabham, Williams, Lotus, and Benetton driver received from the event organizers a special helmet produced by Alan Mosca, son of helmet designer Sid Mosca.
This special helmet has the same features as that which Piquet wore 40 years ago, when he came in first at the defunct Jacarepaguá Race Track, the Monza Circuit and the Brands Hatch Circuit, except that it is golden where the original one was white and bears the name of the award, promoted by Racing Magazine and presented by Banco BRB.
