NTT INDYCAR SERIES: Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey
*Information correct at time of going to press
Welcome to the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey, a fan-favorite NTT INDYCAR SERIES event. INDYCAR is committed to delivering a comprehensive fan experience through outstanding entertainment and thrilling competition as our drivers take on the challenges presented by WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca’s famed 2.238-mile road course.
Whether this is your first time at an INDYCAR race weekend or you have been attending this race for years, we are excited for you to witness the spectacle of the sport. This weekend is a family-friendly event, so we urge you to take in as much as possible and enjoy it all.
The Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey is part of the 17-race NTT INDYCAR SERIES season for the fifth straight season. This weekend also serves as a doubleheader event for our official development series – INDY NXT by Firestone.
All weekend, you’ll see close and unpredictable action as our elite drivers compete for the most challenging championship in motorsports. But you’ll also see that the NTT INDYCAR SERIES is well on the way to being one of the most sustainable racing series in the world.
Our partners at Shell have created a 100% Renewable Race Fuel and later this year we’ll add hybrid technology to all the INDYCAR SERIES cars. Firestone again will use a tire made from rubber produced by the sustainable desert shrub guayule as the alternate tire on street circuits.
You should find that the NTT INDYCAR SERIES offers some of the most daring athletes in sports, including reigning NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou, young stars like Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, Christian Lundgaard and Scott McLaughlin and recordchasing legends in the making such as Scott Dixon, Josef Newgarden and Will Power. The rising talents of the sport, such as Louis Foster, Jacob Abel, Nolan Siegel, Jamie Chadwick and Myles Rowe will be showcased in thrilling, competitive INDY NXT by Firestone action.
While at this beautiful facility, we invite you to download the INDYCAR App powered by NTT DATA on your smartphone to get behindthe-scenes driver features, live timing and scoring, in-car cameras and more information to help you follow the action. Also, follow the NTT INDYCAR SERIES online at INDYCAR.com, on Instagram, X, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok (@INDYCAR), and keep track of INDY NXT by Firestone at indynxt.com or on Instagram, X, Facebook and TikTok (@indynxt)
Thank you for your continued support. INDYCAR appreciates your attendance this weekend. We are glad you can experience the speed, action and excitement that defines the series.
Enjoy the weekend!
Mark Miles, President and CEO, Penske Entertainment Parent company of INDYCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway
On behalf of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the County of Monterey, we’re thrilled to welcome fans back to kick off summer vacation at the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey.
We are privileged to boast a long and memorable history of NTT INDYCAR SERIES races and strive to continue making memories that last for generations of fans to come. Since the first IndyCar race in 1983 to Alex Zanardi’s “The Pass,” Mario Andretti’s farewell race and Bobby Rahal’s four consecutive wins, Laguna Seca has created lasting memories.
Last year on our new track surface, Christian Lundgaard officially set a new track record of 1.06.461 with an astonishing average speed of 121.226 miles per hour around the 2.238-mile circuit. His record setting feat eclipsed the 23-year-old record of 1.07.722 held by Helio Castroneves. Will this summer set a new standard? We’ll all be watching!
Another first is our free Saturday concert with country star George Birge. Abby Leigh Anderson of The Bobby Bones Show opens the concert in the paddock after the track is cleared from an intense INDYCAR qualifying for fans to enjoy good food, refreshments, and fantastic music.
We hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy the full experience of the weekend by visiting
our vendor row in the Hagerty Marketplace, one of our many hospitality experiences, the open paddock, family fun zones and go-karts, or even the view from one of the campgrounds if you’re staying with us.
While visiting, we hope you also take time to explore the incredible community and local businesses around us. The rich history of Old Town Salinas, California’s first capital city, the storied Cannery Row, and the charm of CarmelBy-The-Sea all await you within minutes outside the front entrance. Our community has a strong sense of pride for the track and Laguna Seca Recreation Area that was established in 1957 on then U.S. Army Fort Ord land.
A big thank you to all the sponsors and partners for their support with this incredible event. Firestone, WeatherTech, Mission Foods, Hyundai, Motul and so many more make this weekend possible. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers who are the backbone of our events and to our INDYCAR partners, thank you for returning with your world-class athletes, teams and sponsors to enjoy ultra-competitive racing and our beautiful destination.

Volunteers have been the consistent foundation of Laguna Seca since its inception in late 1956 and the track’s opening in November 1957. And it has never waned. The continued success of each event rests with the large group of selfless community members from Monterey and neighboring counties, and even states, to safely host world-class events like the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey.
Entering its fifth year, the Laguna Seca Volunteer Association (LSVA) is the 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization leading the volunteerism charge. Yet don’t be fooled by the young nature of the organization. It’s fueled by longtime and passionate men and women who have been volunteering at the track for years and even decades. Some of whom are celebrating their 40th anniversary of involvement.
“What began 66 years ago with a small

committee has evolved into a well-oiled operation of individuals who are part of the events held each year,” explains Lee Ames, LSVA president. “This year we’re seeing greater interest from new people who want to become involved, which is a nod toward Laguna Seca’s reputation in the community.”
A frequently cited reason for people’s involvement is the enjoyment received from the fans, teams, drivers and everyone who enters Laguna Seca. “To many who visit, it’s their automotive amusement park…a real bucket list item,” adds Ames. “Then it becomes the friendships formed with everyone who really do appreciate all we do to make their visit the very best possible.”
There are more than 300 volunteers who are committed to the LSVA. In addition, there are 26 area service clubs that provide valuable support services, and the dedicated men and women from the Monterey Bay Veterans who have for years provide efficient shuttle service for everyone in need, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars who provide meals to volunteers.
The Laguna Seca Volunteer Association recently established a scholarship program to help local students pursue a career in motorsports. “We’re looking to have this program help young people get a jump start into event management, mechanics or even driving,” Ames said. To date, LSVA has raised more than $30,000 and has begun awarding scholarships.
If you’re interested in learning more about the scholarship or volunteer opportunities, just ask one of the many volunteers or check out the Facebook Group online.
Across the globe, race fans know and revere Laguna Seca. Since its founding in 1957, the circuit has captivated enthusiasts — competitors and spectators, alike — on and off the track. The Laguna Seca Raceway Foundation seeks to effectively partner with ownership, operations and volunteers on the restoration and improvement of this beloved venue, to support the motorsports tradition and to cultivate the community’s connection to the world-famous racetrack, including through charitable programs,

economic development, and environmental improvements.
The independent, all-volunteer LSRF’s primary focus is on optimizing the Laguna Seca experience for every driver, every guest and every visitor, and the foundation is thrilled to work alongside the nonprofit Friends of Laguna Seca, which will soon be overseeing the track and recreation area’s management and operations team.
“No other racing venue combines such history with beautiful weather and proximity to a stunning world-class
destination like the Monterey Peninsula, and the LSRF Board’s experienced and enthusiastic members are inspired and driven by their vision, passion and underlying desire to keep WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca among the most respected traditional road courses in the world,” says Skip Cook, foundation president and avid collector and racer of vintage cars. “To that end, we host our annual Laps for Laguna event, a major fundraiser held in collaboration with the Classic Sports Racing Group, each spring.”
When the excitement and tension of Saturday’s qualifying is finished, and the melodic sound of race car engines subside, teams and visitors will hear a decidedly fresh sound as the first ever concert takes the paddock stage.
Country star George Birge is kicking off the summer vacation season and celebration of the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at the festive concert. The performance is included in the ticket price beginning at 6:10 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at the stage in the paddock.
Based in Nashville, Birge credits his Austin upbringing with his gift for writing relatable lyrics and melodies. When he first formed a band and began playing bars in the city’s Sixth Street entertainment district,
he sang his own originals, not covers.
“I got so much joy and pleasure from trying to craft songs and build stories and create emotion that I was instantly hooked,” Birge says. “I always say I play live music so that I can write songs and get in the studio, because that’s where my passion is. I love that rush that you get when you find something that is magical.”
Birge supercharged the charts with his first #1 single, “Mind on You.” The addictive hit landed on Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 list and is from his debut album, George Birge: Mind on You. Boasting over 64 million streams across his catalog, American Songwriter praises, “George Birge has a talent for taking a simple concept and turning it into an in-depth song” as PEOPLE hails, he is “Always Meant
for the Solo Spotlight.” He loves defying people’s expectations and smiles at how far two simple words — beer and truck — have already taken him.
Named Billboard’s Country Rookie of the Month (January) and one of Nashville Lifestyles’ “Artists You Need to Know,” Birge’s star is on the rise after his TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon The Austin, Texas native is currently touring with Parker McCollum for select dates of the BURN IT DOWN TOUR 2024 before joining Luke Bryan’s MIND OF A COUNTRY BOY TOUR this summer.
Opening for Birge is Wichita native, Abby Leigh Anderson, also known as “Phone Screener Abby” on the Bobby Bones Show. She released her first song “Hey There Hometown” in September, after being challenged to write a song in a week by her boss, Bobby Bones. The song reached the Top 100 on the charts after being played on the nationally syndicated country morning show. Anderson had the opportunity to sing with Bobby Bones & The Raging Idiots at BobbyFest in Wichita, as well as Strawberry Festival in Plant City, Fla. Hooked on performing, she is currently working on an upcoming album and playing shows any chance she gets!
All fans are invited to enjoy food and refreshments while experiencing the performance uniting INDYCARS and Country Stars for this all-star American weekend.

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is a total sensory experience. And as an artist, Bill Patterson sees the designs, speeds and colors enhancing the spectacle, which makes the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey a must attend event for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Patterson skillfully captures these emotions in this year’s featured poster art, which has become synonymous with the renowned event.
“Having been an IndyCar fan for decades and being witness to some of the greatest races ever held in Monterey (since the late ‘80s), I still get a thrill to find myself working on a cover art image for WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca,” Patterson says.
Patterson, who has been associated with WeatherTech Raceway for nearly 20 years, explained that it’s both exciting and daunting to tackle such an important art piece that is seen around the world.
“WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca has had countless moments of greatness in all forms of racing, but if there’s one place on the track that separates itself as unique to any track, anywhere, it’s the Corkscrew,”
Patterson explains. “Using a bird’s eye view I attempt to share the experience of dropping down into 8 and then 8A, the thrilling ride through one of the most iconic spots in all of racing.
“While contending with traffic, a changing track and the need to maximize speed through the Corkscrew, many races have been determined by what’s happened here. I’m extremely proud of my long-term association with this track, and can’t wait to see everyone there again. Please stop by my tent in the paddock to say hello!”
In addition to the art being available as a collectible 24” x 36” poster to purchase, which has long been a fan favorite among attendees and collectors, the art will be used on select merchandise in the Official Raceway Store. Patterson will also be present during the weekend to autograph posters, meet guests and conduct live art demonstrations.
In addition to commissioned fine art, Patterson has raised over $1 million by painting live at many charity galas, such as the Austin Hatcher Foundation (an official charity of IMSA), National Guard Youth Foundation, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and United Way.
‘ Firestone race tires have been part of several memorable moments at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca’
“The
irestone has a storied heritage in motorsports that dates back more than a century. This year, the iconic brand is proud to celebrate its 30th straight year supporting the NTT INDYCAR® SERIES and its 25th consecutive season as exclusive tire supplier.
In that span, Firestone race tires have been part of several memorable moments at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The most famous was certainly “The Pass” made in the Corkscrew on the final lap of the Grand Prix of Monterey by Alex Zanardi on Bryan Herta in the 1996 season finale.
While the 11-turn, 2.238-mile permanent road course hosted INDYCAR races from 1983-2004, the event returned in 2019 after a 15-year hiatus as the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey. This year’s event marks the fifth season for Firestone as the entitlement sponsor.
Since Ray Harroun drove his Firestoneequipped Marmon Wasp to a win at the inaugural Indianapolis 500 in 1911, Firestone has used world-class racing to demonstrate its uncompromising durability and dependability.
This year, the Firestone Race Tire Engineering team and nearly 60 expert tire builders will deliver approximately 32,000 Firestone Firehawk race tires for the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.
This includes more than 1,500 primary and alternate (red) tires to NTT INDYCAR SERIES teams and drivers at Laguna Seca for practices, qualifying including the Firestone Fast Six, and Sunday’s 95-lap (212.61 miles) race.
In all, Firestone Racing will design, develop, and deliver more than 60 different race tire specifications to meet the extensive and varying demands of the 16 unique oval, street and road course circuits across the 2024 schedule.
Firestone further demonstrates its continued commitment to the future of NTT INDYCAR SERIES racing as presenting sponsor and exclusive tire supplier of the top-tier development series, INDY NXT by Firestone, which will also compete during the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey weekend with two 35-lap (78.33-mile) races. While involved with previous iterations of the ladder series since the early 1990s, this season Firestone will produce more than 5,000 tires with 16 different specifications to support the series and help develop the next generation of drivers.
In merging with Bridgestone in 1988 to form one of the world’s largest tire and rubber companies, Firestone plays a vital role in delivering Bridgestone’s vision to realizing a more sustainable future for tires, racing, and mobility. Motorsports serves as both a global co-creation platform and a proving ground for delivering the values of the Bridgestone E8 Commitment, which outlines eight areas where the company is focused on contributing to a more sustainable world.
Recent Firestone Racing activities have demonstrated Bridgestone E8 Commitment
values of emotion, energy, and ecology as part of a broader initiative to accelerate the use of sustainable technologies across the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Since 2023, Firestone has provided alternate greensidewall race tires for all street course races, which are made with natural rubber sourced from guayule shrubs grown at the company’s research facility in Arizona.
All Firestone Firehawk race tires are manufactured at Bridgestone’s energyefficient Advanced Tire Production Center (ATPC) in Akron, Ohio, which opened in 2022 and was certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system for its transparency and traceability of sustainable raw materials. It’s here that the Firestone Race Tire Engineering team works side-by-side with passenger tire engineers at the nearby Bridgestone Americas Technology Center to leverage lessons from racing to improve the products featured across the Bridgestone and Firestone passenger tire lines.
Follow along with Firestone all season via @FirestoneRacing and @FirestoneTires on Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), as well as @Firestone on Tik Tok.
‘Firestone Racing will design, develop, and deliver more than 60 different race tire specifications to meet the extensive and varying demands of the unique oval, street and road course circuits across the 2024 schedule’
The freshly repaved surface of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca delivered on its high-grip promise last year during qualifying for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES season finale. Christian Lundgaard etched his name into Laguna Seca history by smashing the 23-year-old track record with a blistering 1:06.461 lap, averaging 121.226 miles per hour around the 2.238-mile, 11turn Monterey circuit.
Lundgaard, representing Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, broke the longstanding record of 1:07.722 set by Helio Castroneves during his qualifying run at the 2000 CART Honda Grand Prix of Monterey.
The track had just finished a complete repave. Something that drivers noted often throughout the weekend’s press conferences. “Yea, it’s FAST,” said Kyle Kirkwood with wide eyes and a big smile after practice. “It’s incredible how heavy it is as well; the steering effort is astronomical.”
Alexander Rossi echoed the sentiment earlier that day, adding, “Laguna Seca has always been a driver’s favorite…but now it’s just like you want to try and be as brave as you want to be.”
With the new June dates this year, the track has only nine months of wear between the 2023 and 2024 Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey. The surface should be more broken in, but it could mean only slightly more control which may make for even braver drivers.
This will also be the last race of
the season and possibly the last race in INDYCAR history to see the engines as we know them as the entire grid gets ready for a full hybrid changeover at their next race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This may also motivate some to push the engine as much as possible.
The anticipation is high, and the event promises not only thrilling races but also an exciting lineup of entertainment. Country music fans are in for a treat with
performances by rising star George Birge and Abby Leigh Anderson from the Bobby Bones Show, adding a vibrant musical backdrop to the high-octane action on the track.
As drivers and fans alike prepare for another unforgettable weekend at Laguna Seca, the question lingers: will this year’s conditions allow for even faster laps, further pushing the limits of what is possible on this historic track? The countdown to find out has begun.
JUNE 21-23 2024
WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is considered one of the top five traditional road courses in the world. Constructed in less than two months, its inaugural race, the “8th Annual Pebble Beach Road Race,” was held November 10, 1957. Originally 1.9 miles, it is now an 11-turn, 2.238-mile circuit that is highlighted by the signature turn known worldwide: The Corkscrew that drops roughly six stories in elevation. Laguna Seca has hosted nearly every form of racing, including IMSA, MotoGP, MotoAmerica, Trans-Am, and historic racing, as well as major concerts by the Beach Boys, Grateful Dead and more.
One of the brightest stars in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Josef Newgarden continues to shine both on and off the track as he climbs higher among the sport’s all-time greats heading into his 13th season competing in America’s top open-wheel series in 2024. A consistent championship contender since joining Team Penske prior to the 2017 season, Newgarden scored the biggest win of his career in 2023 as the two-time series champion in 2017 and 2019 captured the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500.
After producing four wins and another top-five championship finish behind the wheel of the No. 2 Hitachi/PPG/Shell Powering Progress/Snap-on Dallara/Chevrolet in 2023, Newgarden will strive to secure his third INDYCAR title in 2024. Newgarden will also compete in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship endurance events this season for the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport team and he helped the squad earn the overall victory in the Rolex 24-hour race at Daytona to open the 2024 season.
Scott McLaughlin continues to establish himself as one of the most accomplished race car drivers in the world as he begins his eighth season with Team Penske and his fourth season competing in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in 2024.
In 2023, McLaughlin continued to build on his impressive resume as a Team Penske driver. The 30-year-old native of Christchurch, New Zealand won at Barber Motorsports Park for his 52nd victory since he joined Team Penske in 2017. The victory also placed him third on the team’s all-time wins list behind Brad Keselowski and Team Penske Hall of Fame driver, Mark Donohue. He and teammate Will Power enter the 2024 season tied for the most pole positions won in Team Penske history with 64. McLaughlin enjoyed a remarkably consistent season in 2023 as he recorded 14 top-10 finishes in 17 races. He also tied series champion Alex Palou for the most laps completed (2,258) over the course of the season.
Kyffin Simpson makes the jump to join the team’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES lineup for the complete 2024 season. Simpson, who joined Chip Ganassi Racing as a development driver in May of 2022, competed in the INDY NXT by Firestone series for the past two seasons.
Racing in sports car competition this year, Simpson has captured victories at IMSA’s 12 Hours of Sebring race (LMP2 class victory; P3 overall), European Le Mans Series’ 4 Hours of Le Castellet (LMP2 class victory; overall victory) and the Asian Le Mans Series’ 4 Hours of Dubai race (LMP2 class; overall victory). Before advancing to INDY NXT and sports car competition, Simpson won the 2021 Formula Regional Americas Championship after earning seven wins, two pole positions and 13 total podiums.
“I love racing because it’s such a fun, adrenalinepacked sport, and it is so competitive. The sport really pushes you to your limits, and it is amazing to test yourself against the best drivers in the world.”
CHIP GANASSI RACINGARROW MCLAREN
Arrow McLaren driver Pato O’Ward is in his fifth NTT INDYCAR SERIES season. Originally from Mexico, O’Ward grew up in San Antonio, splitting his childhood between Mexico and Texas before eventually moving to France in 2013 to compete in the French F4 Championship. The next year he would return to the U.S. and start the Road to Indy ladder. This set him on a course to where he is today, driving the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
He is the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar champion in the Prototype Challenge class, a two-time class winner at the Rolex 24 At Daytona and a Prototype Challenge class winner at 12 Hours of Sebring. He also was the 2018 INDY NXT by Firestone champion.
In addition to his Arrow McLaren INDYCAR Team commitments, he is a 2024 McLaren Formula 1 Reserve Driver now that he is eligible for an FIA Super License. He is a member of the McLaren Driver Development program.
ARROW MCLAREN
Theo Pourchaire is a rising star in the world of motorsport. Beginning his racing journey in karting at age six, Pourchaire quickly displayed his natural talent. He transitioned to single-seater racing in 2018, dominating the Formula 4 ADAC Championship in 2019. Signed to the Sauber Junior Team in 2020, he impressed in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, finishing as runner-up. He made his Formula 2 debut in 2021 with ART Grand Prix, showcasing his speed and skill by becoming the youngest-ever pole-sitter in the championship’s history, and winning the Formula 2 championship in 2023. In 2024, Pourchaire makes his INDYCAR SERIES debut with Arrow McLaren at Long Beach. With a fearless driving style and consistent performances, he is poised to make a significant impact on the future of motorsport.
In his ninth season with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Alexander Rossi enters his second season with Arrow McLaren, looking to build off his 2023 campaign with the team in which he finished 9th in the championship. The 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 winner, Rossi was the first rookie to win the race since 2001 and the first American rookie to win the famous race since 1928.
At age 17, Rossi moved to Europe to chase his Formula One dream, making five starts for Manor Marussia and becoming the third American to race in Formula One since 1990. Rossi has won races in GP2 Series (now known as F2) and World Series by Renault and has competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rolex 24 At Daytona, the Baja 1000 and the Bathurst 1000. ARROW MCLARENLinus Lundqvist is set to bring his championship credentials to Chip Ganassi Racing for his first full season in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in 2024. After winning the 2022 INDY NXT championship, Lundqvist made the jump to compete in three INDYCAR races last season with Meyer Shank Racing. Lundqvist wasted no time making his mark, setting the fastest lap time among all drivers in two of his first three races in the series (Nashville and Gateway).
Lundqvist dominated throughout the 2022 INDY NXT season, clinching the championship by a margin of 92 points after earning five wins, nine podiums and seven pole positions. He made his series debut in 2021, where he finished third in the points standings with three wins, 11 podiums and three pole positions.
Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, Lundqvist previously won the 2020 Formula Regional Americas Championship, the 2018 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship and the 2016 Formula STCC Nordic Championship.
The six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES Champion (2020, 2018, 2015, 2013, 2008, 2003) and 2008 Indianapolis 500 Winner, returns to Chip Ganassi Racing for his 23rd season – the longest tenure for a driver in team history (1990 to present). Overall, 2024 will be Dixon’s 24th season racing in the INDYCAR SERIES.
Dixon boasts 56 career wins, second in alltime series history behind only A.J. Foyt (67). His six championships are also the second-most, trailing only Foyt (seven). Dixon will enter the 2024 campaign as INDYCAR’s all-time Iron Man with 322 consecutive starts made, a streak that dates back to 2004.
The Iceman produced yet another impressive season in 2023. He finished second in the points standings and secured three race wins on the year (IMS Road Course; Gateway; WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca). For the 19th season in a row, and the 21st season overall, he notched a race victory, extending his all-time series records even further. It was his 10th season, and his first since his title-winning campaign in 2020, where he registered three-or-more victories.
CHIP GANASSI RACINGAlex Palou enters the 2024 campaign as the defending NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion. At 26 years old, Palou has achieved two series championships (2023 and 2021), nine wins and 24 podiums through his first 50 starts with Chip Ganassi Racing. Palou made history last season, becoming just the sixth driver in the 100-plus-year history of the sport to win multiple championships at 26-or-younger (Mario Andretti; Sebastien Bourdais; A.J. Foyt; Sam Hornish Jr.; Louis Meyer). He is the fourth driver to win multiple championships with Chip Ganassi Racing (Scott Dixon; Dario Franchitti; Alex Zanardi).
The Spaniard also finished the season with a 3.71 average finishing position, which is the best mark in a single season by any driver since 2006. With five race wins and 10 podiums on the season, Palou became the first driver to clinch the championship before the season finale since series reunification. Palou led a breakout season with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2021 where he tallied three wins and 12 top-10 finishes en route to hoisting the Astor Cup as series champion. Palou collected his first series win in his first ever start with Chip Ganassi Racing at Barber Motorsports Park.
Marcus Armstrong announced his arrival to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in 2023, winning the Rookie of the Year title despite racing exclusively in road and street course races. Armstrong completed 97 percent of his available laps (1,140 of 1,175) across his rookie campaign, finishing in the top-10 in five of his 13 starts.
Armstrong made his North American professional debut after competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship from 2020 to 2022 where he earned four wins and eight podiums. Armstrong scored his first victory in the series in 2021 at Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia, and then registered three wins across the 2022 campaign in Italy, Austria and the Netherlands. Armstrong also served as a development driver for the Scuderia Ferrari F1 team in 2021.
“I race in INDYCAR because of the fact we go on ovals, road courses and street courses. That sort of mix of tracks makes it such a unique challenge in the world of racing. I think it is the most competitive series in the world. That challenge drives me to go race every year.”
CHIP GANASSI RACINGOne of the most successful drivers in Team Penske and INDYCAR history, Will Power enters his 20th NTT INDYCAR SERIES season in 2024. As a two-time series champion and Indianapolis 500 winner, Power has already secured his position among the all-time greats in North America’s premier open-wheel racing series. His 41 career victories place him alone in fifth place on INDYCAR’s all-time wins list as he begins his 16th season driving for Team Penske. In qualifying, Power has no equal as his 70 career NTT P1 Awards represents the most poles won in INDYCAR history.
Power returns to the No. 12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet team and he will be looking to return to the form that produced his second career title in 2022. The 2022 championship weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will always hold special memories for Power as he broke a tie with racing legend Mario Andretti for the most career INDYCAR pole positions, winning his 68th NTT P1 Award before securing the series title in the season finale.
Santino Ferrucci is entering this season with A.J. Foyt Enterprises in the famed No. 14 car. He was the 2019 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year after finishing 7th. His best finish was achieved in 2023 when he finished 3rd at the Indianapolis 500. At just 11 years old, Ferrucci was featured in an article for GQ magazine as a karting prodigy. After his karting career, he raced in GP3 Series (now FIA Formula 3) and FIA Formula 2 and became the youngest winner of a British Formula 3 race at age 16. Ferrucci enjoys golf, gaming and movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe off the track. Why does he race? “Speed! The pure enjoyment of going fast. Always wanted to see how fast I could go.”
Graham Rahal begins his 18th season in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in 2024. As the son of 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner and three-time INDYCAR SERIES champion, Bobby Rahal, he was destined to be an INDYCAR SERIES racer. Graham grew up at the race track and that was the only thing that interested him. He held the record as the INDYCAR SERIES’ youngest race winner from 2008-2019. With six series wins to his credit and five pole positions, Rahal plans to add to this total in 2024.
He is a golfer but much of his time is now spent as a business owner, operating Graham Rahal Performance, a custom aftermarket performance company and specialty car dealership based in Indianapolis. He also owns two Rahal Ducati dealerships and will field a Ducati Supersport team in MotoAmerica. Additionally, Rahal opened Rahal Paint Protection in May 2022 and owns a Piaggio franchise (Rahal Piaggio) selling Piaggios, Moto Guzzis, Aprillias, and Vespas in the Indianapolis area.
“I think I was destined to do this. From the time I was a little kid, this was life for me. The noises. The sights. The smells. This is all I ever cared about.”
A two-time INDY NXT by Firestone championship runner-up, British driver Jack Harvey joins Dale Coyne Racing for 2024. Harvey has lived in both the United States and France but has remained grounded in his sense of home – the small village of Bassingham in Lincolnshire, England. He is among the drivers who have won on both the oval and road courses at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with wins on both circuits in 2015 while racing in INDY NXT. Harvey has 10 racing championship wins in his career, including the British Formula 3 title in 2012. Away from the track, Harvey enjoys baking, target shooting, watching Star Wars and Marvel movies and watching soccer and American football.
The 2023 INDY NXT By Firestone champion, Christian Rasmussen, is a rookie member of Ed Carpenter Racing for the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season for road and street course events, and the Indianapolis 500. In INDY NXT By Firestone, Rasmussen won five races and was awarded four poles during the 2023 season.
Rasmussen was only nine years old when he claimed his first karting championship in Denmark. He arrived in the United States in 2018 and was a part of the Road to Indy the following year. He is only the second driver in history to earn a championship in each division that currently feeds the NTT INDYCAR SERIES – USF2000 (2020), USF Pro 2000 (2021) and INDY NXT (2023).
“It was always race cars that I was playing with as a kid. It came very naturally that it was racing that I wanted to pursue.”
Entering his fifth season with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, 2020 NTT INDYCAR SERIES Rookie of the Year Rinus VeeKay drives for Ed Carpenter Racing. He is the longest-tenured full-time driver in Ed Carpenter Racing’s 12-year history and will remain behind the wheel of the No. 21 Chevrolet for the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season.
He joined the ranks of INDYCAR race winners in May 2021 with a victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course and earned his most recent pole position at Barber Motorsports Park this past season. VeeKay, now 23, holds records for the best qualifying result by a teenager in Indy 500 history and the youngest front row qualifier ever. He has started on the front row of the Indianapolis 500 the past three years and has been the fastest Chevrolet-powered driver in the field for four consecutive years.
A graduate of INDY NXT by Firestone, VeeKay won the 2018 USF Pro 2000 Championship and won races in USF2000, USF Pro 2000 and INDY NXT by Firestone.
ANDRETTI GLOBAL WITH CURB-AGAJANIAN
Herta returns to Andretti Global for the 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season. He is the youngest driver to win an INDYCAR SERIES race when he won at Circuit of the Americas in 2019 at the age of 18 years, 11 months and 25 days. This graduate of INDY NXT by Firestone is also a two-time Rolex 24 At Daytona class winner, winning in 2019 with BMW Team RRL in GT Le Mans class, and in 2021 with DragonSpeed in the LMP2 class. Son of former INDYCAR racer Bryan Herta, Colton has won twice at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, in 2019 and 2021.
“I race in INDYCAR because of the speed. We have some of the best racing in the world and I am thankful to have the opportunity to compete in the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. It is such a spectacle that draws me to the series year after year.”
Kyle Kirkwood returns for his third season in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES in the Andretti Global Honda. He finished 11th in the 2023 points standing, scoring wins on the streets of Long Beach and streets of Nashville. He recorded seven top 10 finishes and led three races for 88 laps. In his pursuit of a ride in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Kirkwood won championships in USF2000, USF Pro 2000 and INDY NXT by Firestone. He also pilots the No. 14 factory Lexus entry for Vasser Sullivan Racing in the endurance rounds of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Away from the track, Kirkwood enjoys deep-sea fishing, diving, surfing and golf.
“I race in INDYCAR because I absolutely love the sport. It is not easy to make it in this field of racing, and I am thankful that I’m able to compete with such an amazing team.”
Indianapolis 500 champion Marcus Ericsson enters his sixth NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, but his first with Andretti Global. He has compiled four wins, most recently being in 2023 in St. Petersburg. Ericsson’s racing career includes five seasons with Sauber in Formula One, a championship win in both British Formula BMW and Japanese F3, and race starts in British F3 and GP2 (now called Formula 2).
When this Swedish driver isn’t on the track, he is likely watching the Swedish version of “Master Chef” or cheering on the Swedish national hockey team.
“The variety of tracks on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar makes it such a unique challenge. INDYCAR is the most competitive series in the world, and you really need to push yourself to be at the front. The competition is what really drives me to race every year.”
Pietro Fittipaldi, 27, most recently served as the official reserve and test driver for Haas F1 Team for five consecutive seasons (2019-2023) and is competing in his first full NTT INDYCAR SERIES season in 2024 after having made nine series starts in 2018 and 2021.
Fittipaldi is a grandson of two-time FIA Formula 1 World Champion (1972, 1974) and double Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi (1989, 1993). He rose through America’s karting ranks from 2006-10 before making his debut in stock cars in 2011, where he was crowned champion and “Rookie of the Year.”
A move to the Late Models category in 2012 earned another “Rookie of the Year” title for the Brazilian, followed by victory
in the Pepsi 200 Fall Brawl. Relocating to Europe, Fittipaldi competed in the Formula 4 Championship and the Formula Renault Championship. In 2018, Fittipaldi returned to the United States to compete in the INDYCAR SERIES with Dale Coyne Racing, his deal commencing with April’s event in Phoenix. His race program was curtailed, however, after breaking both legs in an accident in May’s World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Fittipaldi returned to his INDYCAR commitments at the end of July that season, making five more starts with a best finish of ninth place at the Grand Prix of Portland still racing with a fractured leg.
Entering his second season with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Sting Ray Robb joins AJ Foyt Racing. Named after the Corvette, (his parents are Corvette enthusiasts) Robb finished second in INDY NXT by Firestone in 2022. He won the 2020 USF Pro 2000 championship and has raced Formula Car Challenge and NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. Faith is a key part of his life, and he is involved in The Porch young adult ministry. He enjoys spending his time outdoors in the mountains of his home state Idaho, where he skis and hunts in the fall and winter and enjoys rock climbing and watersports in the spring and summer.
“Each person is gifted their own unique passions and abilities from God. For me, that is racing. There’s no better feeling than when you’re performing for Him while doing what you love. To have purpose and passion in a career is not too common, but I feel the joy of each of these when I drive.”
AJ FOYT RACINGRAHAL LETTERMAN LANIGAN RACING
The 2022 NTT INDYCAR SERIES Rookie of the Year, Danish driver Christian Lundgaard is returning for his third season with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. In 2022, he was named NTT INDYCAR SERIES Rookie of the Year after earning a best finish of second place at Gallagher Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. He recorded two top-five and seven top-10 finishes en route to a 14th place, season-ending standing. In 2023, he earned his first pole and victory at the Honda Indy Toronto and also won pole for the GMR Grand Prix at Indianapolis. He recorded four top-five and nine top-10 finishes on his way to a top-eight, season-ending rank.
Last year on the newly-repaved WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca circuit, Lundgaard set the new official track lap record of 1:06.461 with an average speed of 121.226 miles per hour. This eclipsed the 23-year record held by Helio Castroneves.
Previously in his career, Lundgaard was an Alpine junior racer who spent two seasons in the FIA Formula 2 Championship and claimed two wins and six podiums in 2020. He also won SMP and Spanish F4 championships and scored a win in F3.
Italian Luca Ghiotto made his series debut with Dayle Coyne Racing at Barber Motorsports Park in April and returned to the cockpit in May on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. With no NTT INDYCAR SERIES experience before his first race, Ghiotto finished 21st in his debut at Barber. He followed that by finishing 25th on the IMS road course.
“I’m very happy to be returning behind the wheel of the No. 51 Dale Coyne Racing entry for the next two races,” Ghiotto said. “I enjoyed my first two races in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and had a great time working with Jack (Harvey) and everyone at DCR. I look forward to working with them again and help the team continue to make progress over the next two races.”
Ghiotto has seven career victories in F2, the last ladder series before Formula One. In his five full-time seasons in the series, he finished as high as third in the FIA Formula 2 Championship standings. He recently served as test and simulator driver for the Nissan Formula E team in 2022-23.
The 2019 NTT INDYCAR SERIES Rookie of the Year, Felix Rosenqvist enters his sixth season in the series and his first with Meyer Shank Racing. His best points finish was 6th in 2019 and his most recent pole occurred at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in 2023. This Swedish driver also won the 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship, is a three-time Formula Renault title winner and is a two-time winner of both Masters of F3 and Macau Grand Prix. Rosenqvist scored three wins in Formula E and finished third overall in the 2016-17 standings. Away from the track, he enjoys skiing, skateboarding, hiking, video games and listening to music ranging from Slipknot to Coldplay.
“I race because I love speed. I always wanted to do something with speed. There’s always a constant challenge of perfection. You can’t always get the perfect lap, but you can try to get a little bit closer to it. There’s always something to go after, and it keeps the sport interesting for me.”
David Malukas is entering his third year in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and joins Meyer Shank Racing in 2024. Malukas is a graduate of INDY NXT by Firestone, where he finished second in 2021 with a series-record 16 podium finishes. He started his career as a multiple karting champion who was featured on TruTV’s “Kart Life.” He is a first-generation Lithuanian-American and the only son of immigrants who moved to Chicago in 1991. Malukas grew up watching his father race at Road America. Outside of racing, Malukas enjoys mountain biking and hi-fidelity music, and considers himself “a bit of a gamer.”
JUNCOS HOLLINGER RACING
An instantly-recognizable name in the world of international motorsports, Grosjean sustained a long and successful career in F1 – starting 181 Grands Prix and finishing on the podium ten times – before he joined the NTT INDYCAR SERIES grid in 2021.
The 37-year-old immediately found front-running pace on American asphalt and finished P13 in the 2023 drivers’ points. Scoring a brace of P2 finishes at Long Beach and Alabama was a reminder of the talent Grosjean possesses. Moving to Juncos Hollinger Racing for 2024 marks the beginning of a new and exciting challenge for the Frenchman. As a natural leader, he’s expected to boost the team’s performance levels both on and off the track.
“Simply because racing is my passion, because every time I jump in a race car, I want to do the best I can, and I feel like I’m in the moment and I love that.”
Entering his second season with Juncos Hollinger Racing and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Agustin Canapino is a multiple Argentine touring car champion and the son of renowned race car mechanic Alberto Canapino. His racing accolades span from decorated sim racer to 2018 Olimpia de Oro award winner as Argentine sportsman of the year. Before joining the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, his career included 15 national championships in Argentina, including Super TC2000, Top Race V6 and Turismo Carretera categories titles. He also has endurance race experience driving in the Rolex 24 At Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring with Juncos Racing in 2019. “I race because, first of all, it’s my passion and I loved motorsports since I was a kid, and I love the competition. I inherited it from my father, and all my life was dedicated to that.”
FIRESTONE GRAND
PRIX OF ST. PETERSBURG
MARCH 8-10
100 LAPS / 180 MILES
The 1.8-mile, 14-turn (5 lefts, 9 rights) circuit incorporates streets of downtown St. Petersburg and a section of runway of Albert Whitted Airport. After the long frontstretch, there’s a tight right-hander into Turn 1 and then a quick left-hand turn. Plenty of drivers have gotten into trouble in these two turns over the years. There are two other long straights with heavy braking zones that afford opportunities to overtake
hen the checkered flew, two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Newgarden smiled as he crossed the line to win the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding, driving the No. 2 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet to a 7.9121-second victory over the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet of runner-up Pato O’Ward.
WBut the victory smile faded as INDYCAR announced penalties for Team Penske, including disqualifications for Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin and a 10-point penalty for Will Power for violation of the “Push to Pass” parameters.
Due to the disqualification penalty of Newgarden, the No. 5 entry of Arrow McLaren driven by Pato O’Ward was credited with the win and valuable championship points earned on the Streets of St. Petersburg. Power captured second place for Team Penske, followed by Colton Herta in the Gainbridge Honda fielded by Andretti Global, two-time reigning series champion Alex Palou climbed from 13th to fourth in his DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda and Felix Rosenqvist rounded out the top five for Meyer Shank Racing.
“I think it’s a very solid foundation to what is going to be a very tight, very competitive rest of the year,” O’Ward said.
ACURA GRAND PRIX OF LONG BEACH
APRIL 19-21
85 LAPS / 167.28 MILES
The 1.968-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit encircles the Long Beach Convention Center - which houses a Family Fun Zone and numerous displays during the race weekend - and runs down scenic Shoreline Drive. It offers numerous overtaking opportunities, including Turn 1, getting the hairpin turn just before the frontstretch right is critical
Scott Dixon proved yet again Sunday that almost nothing is impossible for him behind the wheel of a race car, winning the Acura Long Beach Grand Prix with a dramatic blend of patience and aggression over the closing laps.
Nobody in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES saves fuel better than Dixon, and he drove the last 34 laps of the 85-lap street race on one tank of Shell 100% Renewable Race Fuel in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to hold off a hard-charging Colton Herta – who was on a more conventional, less risky fuel strategy – by .9798 of a second.
“That was tough; that was really tough,” Dixon said. “Honestly, I didn’t think we were going to make it, and they kept giving me a (fuel) number, and it just wasn’t getting ... I was close but not enough. Luckily, we were on the safe side there.”
Dixon, who started eighth, even had enough fuel left in his Honda engine to perform a celebratory burnout after claiming his first victory of the season and the 57th win of his legendary career. It was his second victory on the Long Beach temporary street circuit, joining his triumph in 2015.
Reigning series champion Alex Palou finished third in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.
Josef Newgarden placed a disappointing fourth in the No. 2 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet after looking to be Dixon’s biggest threat until Herta’s No. 26 Gainbridge Honda fielded by Andretti Global made contact with him late in the race.
Marcus Ericsson rounded out the top five in the No. 28 Delaware Life Honda fielded by Andretti Global, as that team and Chip Ganassi Racing each claimed two of the top five finishing positions.
The 27-car field splintered into two groups of differing strategies on Lap 15 when the only caution period of the race was triggered by Christian Rasmussen’s spin and wall contact in Turn 4 in the No. 20 GuyCare Chevrolet fielded by Ed Carpenter Racing.
Then race leader Will Power and Dixon led a group of drivers that dove into the pits during that caution, with Kyle Kirkwood, Marcus Armstrong, Graham Rahal and Linus Lundqvist among the
other leading lights adopting that tactic.
For the next 45 laps, the early-stopping drivers used every tactic in their bag of skills to save fuel, lifting the throttle early in corners and babying it on acceleration.
The differing strategies then exploded into a crescendo of drama after the second group pitted for the final time between Laps 58-62.
Newgarden emerged in second, about three seconds behind Dixon, after every contender finished their final stops. Newgarden’s tires were seven laps fresher than Dixon’s, and he didn’t have to worry about saving fuel.
Dixon masterfully balanced saving fuel with short bursts of push-to-pass to parry Newgarden over the closing laps. Still, Newgarden drove to within a half-second of Dixon on Lap 71 and appeared to be biding his time.
Newgarden then pulled close to Dixon on Lap 77 and appeared to be setting him up for a passing attempt on the straight. But that never happened, as Herta nudged Newgarden from behind entering the hairpin. The impact lifted Newgarden’s rear wheels off the ground and engaged his anti-stall function, letting Herta and Palou pass him and dropping him to fourth.
“It seemed pretty obvious,” Newgarden said. “He just misjudged it and ran into me.
That incident gave Dixon breathing room from behind as he navigated lapped traffic ahead. Herta pulled to within .328 of a second with three laps remaining, but Dixon was given clearance on the last lap to use all the fuel-gulping push-to-pass he had left and pulled away for the win.
“It was way up there,” Dixon said when asked where this win ranked among his strategic victories. “The stress level was high. Those guys were coming fast and strong. I think we were off by a lap or two of making it easy. Other fuel races I’ve done I’ve had it under control for the full stint.”
APRIL 26-28
90 LAPS / 207 MILES
Barber Motorsports Park just outside of Birmingham, Alabama is a 2.3-mile permanent road course with 17 flowing turns and features 80 feet of elevation change that challenge drivers and engineers. A 45-foot-wide racing ribbon also makes it imperative for patience while setting up overtaking opportunities
Scott McLaughlin won the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix powered by AmFirst for the second consecutive year at Barber Motorsports Park, again using a mash-the-gas, three-stop pit strategy in his No. 3 Good Ranchers Team Penske Chevrolet to earn his first victory of the season and his fifth career win.
“We know our job, we know what we need to do,” McLaughlin said. “I’m just super proud of the execution. A couple of yellows didn’t fall our way, but we just showed our pace. We just keep rolling, man.
“Definitely one of my best drives in terms of execution and just knocking out the laps. Very happy we could advance to the checkered flag there and bring home a W for Team Penske and for Roger (Penske).”
Will Power finished second in the No. 12 Verizon Business Team Penske Chevrolet, 1.3194 seconds behind McLaughlin, after starting second.
Rookie Linus Lundqvist earned his first career NTT INDYCAR SERIES podium finish by placing third after starting 19th in the No. 8 American Legion Honda fielded by Chip Ganassi Racing.
Felix Rosenqvist finished fourth in the No. 60 AutoNation/SiriusXM Honda to continue burnishing his potential championship credentials after joining Meyer Shank Racing this season. Twotime and reigning NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou rounded out the top five in the No. 10 Ridgeline Lubricants Honda as Chip Ganassi Racing matched Team Penske also with two drivers in the top five.
McLaughlin, who led 58 of the 90 laps after earning the NTT P1 Award in qualifying Saturday, took the lead for the final time on Lap 76 after his final pit stop. McLaughlin, Power, Lundqvist and Christian Lundgaard were the leading drivers on a three-pit stop strategy, while Palou and Rosenqvist were among those who opted to make only two stops and conserve fuel in hopes of snatching an unlikely victory like Scott Dixon did in the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Palou led Laps 46-55 while on the alternate strategy before making the last of his two stops at
the end of Lap 56. Meanwhile, McLaughlin – who made his second stop at the end of Lap 46 – knew he had to build a gap of around 27 seconds on Palou after Palou’s final stop to be able to keep the lead after his third and final stop.
McLaughlin led Palou by nearly 30 seconds before his last stop and exited the pits for the final time ahead of his Chip Ganassi Racing rival. It looked like McLaughlin had more than enough speed to hold off Power over the last 14 laps, as both were on identical fuel strategies and running Firestone Firehawk alternate tires to the finish. Meanwhile, 2022 INDY NXT by Firestone champion Lundqvist completed his mighty march from the back of the field by passing teammate Palou for third place on Lap 84.
But the last of the race’s four caution periods threw a trick in the tail. Rookie Christian Rasmussen spun and stalled his No. 20 Guy Care Chevrolet of Ed Carpenter Racing in Turn 13 on Lap 86.
That set up a two-lap scramble for the victory on the 17-turn, 2.3-mile asphalt roller coaster. On the Lap 89 restart, McLaughlin eased away from Power and stayed inch-perfect for victory.
“It was a hard-fought 1-2 for Penske,” Power said. “We were certainly fast, but obviously a lot of strategy played into that. We were able to use our speed to come out in front again.”
McLaughlin has won at least one race in each of the last three seasons after joining the team full time in 2021.
Six-time series champion Dixon, who led the points entering this event, lost the top spot with his 15th-place finish capping a challenging weekend for the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda crew.
Colton Herta took the NTT INDYCAR SERIES points lead for the first time – by one point over Power – after finishing eighth in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda of Andretti Global w/Curb-Agajanian. Palou is third, just three points behind Herta. Dixon is fourth, just seven points behind Herta.
SONSIO GRAND PRIX
MAY 12-13
85 LAPS / 207.32 MILES
The 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course incorporates portions of Turns 1 and 2 and the frontstraight of the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval and the remainder of the circuit is within the infield, allowing for great spectator viewing
Two-time and reigning NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou drove his No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to a 6.6106-second victory over the No. 12 Verizon Business Team Penske Chevrolet of fellow two-time series champion Will Power. It was his second consecutive win in this event on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course at IMS, which leads into the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on the 2.5-mile oval.
“It was an amazing win,” Palou said. “It’s great to be back-to-back from last year, and we’re going to continue this May. A win helps a lot, especially if it’s a pole and a win and the way we won it. We’re going to celebrate, for sure, but we’re going to switch this afternoon our focus to the big one.”
Palou earned his 10th career victory and first points-paying victory of the season, as he also won the non-points The Thermal Club $1 Million Challenge in March. He also took the NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship lead by 12 points over Power, who finished second for the third time in four races this season.
“It’s what was available to us,” Power said of the runner-up finish. “Yeah, you do get sick of finishing second. Oh, my God. You’re just racing very tough people, and if you’re not exactly perfect, you won’t win. I wasn’t exactly perfect in qualifying, and I didn’t win.”
Christian Lundgaard took the lead from Palou on Lap 1 of the 85-lap race but ended up third in the No. 45 Hy-Vee Honda fielded by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for his best finish this season.
“We needed a little luck today,” Lundgaard said. “I think we did everything we could in the first two stints to make sure the No. 45 Hy-Vee Honda had a shot. Palou really deserved it today.”
Chip Ganassi Racing took three of the top five spots, as six-time series champion Scott Dixon finished fourth in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda and Marcus Armstrong was fifth in the No. 11 IU Simon Cancer Center Honda.
Colton Herta rallied from the 24th starting spot to finish seventh in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda fielded by Andretti Global with Curb-Agajanian despite being hip-checked off track by his teammate Marcus Ericsson early in the race.
Lundgaard took the lead in Turn 2 of the opening lap – one of a record 13 lead changes for this event – and stayed out front until making his first pit stop on Lap 19 along with Palou, who was running second after Power made his first stop on Lap 18.
That set the stage for a three-way tactical fight that was as much about strategists and pit crews as drivers for the rest of the race.
The decisive stops took place at the end of the second stint. Power dove into the pits late on Lap 39, attempting to undercut leader Lundgaard, who pitted on the next lap in reaction to Power’s surprise early stop.
It appeared Power, charging down the front straightaway on hot Firestone Firehawk tires, might jump Lundgaard when Lundgaard exited the pits on Lap 40. But the No. 28 Delaware Life Honda of Ericsson was between Lundgaard and Power, letting Lundgaard keep the advantage.
Meanwhile, Palou stopped on Lap 41 on an overcut strategy and left the pits ahead of Lundgaard. When the rest of the field cycled through its stops, Palou found himself out front on Lap 45 and steadily increased his gap over Lundgaard.
Most of the 27-car field made its final stops between Laps 62-65. Palou cycled into the lead for good on Lap 65, but his rivals got one more chance to pass him when the only caution period of the race was triggered on Lap 66 by rookie Luca Ghiotto’s spin in Turn 10 in the No. 51 Dale Coyne Racing Honda.
But Palou pulled away on the restart on Lap 68 and put the pedal to the metal to secure the victory. He turned the quickest lap of the race while leading on Lap 72 and never was challenged to the checkered flag.
MAY 26-28
200 LAPS / 500 MILES
With four corners banked at 9 degrees, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway drives more like a road course than an oval. But each of the corners is different, with weather influencing the car’s characteristics. The straightaways are 5/8ths of a mile long - time to catch your breath and dive into the next corner
It was worth the wait, and then some.
Josef Newgarden joined the immortals at Indianapolis Motor Speedway by becoming just the sixth driver to win the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge in two consecutive years, edging Pato O’Ward in a scintillating race that included the start delayed four hours by a midday rainstorm.
Two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Newgarden drove his No. 2 Shell Powering Progress Team Penske Chevrolet to the victory by .3417 of a second over the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet of O’Ward, as they swapped the lead four times over the last eight laps.
“I knew we could win this race again,” Newgarden said. “There’s just no better way to win this race than that. I’ve got to give it up to Pato, as well. He’s an incredibly clean driver. It takes two people to make that work.”
Newgarden, who started third, became the first repeat winner of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” since Helio Castroneves won in 2001 and 2002 for Team Penske. Newgarden also earned the record-extending 20th victory in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” for Team Penske.
The repeat victory delivered a $440,000 bonus to Newgarden from BorgWarner, the sponsor of the winner’s Borg-Warner Trophy.
Six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Scott Dixon finished third in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, followed by Alexander Rossi in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.
Reigning series champion Alex Palou rounded out the top five in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Just 1.5079 seconds separated the top five cars despite the last 46 laps running caution-free in a frantic finish.
Newgarden celebrated in familiar style for the second straight year, climbing into the crowd in the grandstands adjacent to the Yard of Bricks start-finish line, where he was mobbed by fans.
It was hard to blame his exuberance, as the victory capped a Month of May in which he was without Team Penske President and strategist Tim Cindric and engineer Luke Mason. They were suspended by Team Penske for the two races at IMS after the team’s cars were found to have violated INDYCAR Push-to-Pass rules in the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St.
Petersburg presented by RP Funding.
“They can say whatever they want after this point; I don’t care anymore,” Newgarden said of critics after the violations were discovered. “I’m just so proud of this team. They crushed it. Crushed it. Luke, Tim – they’re not here today, but they’re a huge part of this. I’m just so proud for everybody at Team Penske. That’s the way I wanted to win the thing, right there.”
There were seven caution periods in the first 117 laps, as the race struggled to find a rhythm. But as the intensity ratcheted in the second half of the 200lap race, the racing was breathtaking – and clean. There were 32 lead changes alone in the last 70 laps.
Rookie Kyffin Simpson was the last of the drivers on a different pit sequence to surrender the lead with their final stop, on Lap 184. That set the stage for a phenomenal four-driver scramble for the win between Newgarden, O’Ward, Rossi and Dixon over the closing 15 laps.
Newgarden took the lead on Lap 193, with O’Ward climbing to second. That set the stage for a series of slingshot passes between the two drivers over the last seven laps.
O’Ward passed Newgarden on the outside just before the start-finish line as the white flag flew in the air for the final lap. O’Ward stayed out front in Turns 1 and 2 ahead and down the back straightaway, but Newgarden tucked in behind O’Ward’s car and made a daring pass outside of O’Ward in Turn 3 to take the lead for good with the crowd of 330,000 on their feet in rapture.
“It’s hard to put it into words,” said O’Ward, who also finished second in 2022. “So close again. I put that car through things I never thought it was going to be able to do. Sometimes I said, ‘Aw, that’s it,’ and somehow I came out of the other side of the corner.
“Oh, man: It’s just so painful when you put so much into it, and then two corners short.”
It was only the fourth time in Indianapolis 500 history that the race was decided by a last-lap pass. Newgarden also achieved that feat last year by passing Marcus Ericsson on Lap 200.
This year’s race was a classic, with an eventrecord 16 of the 33 starters leading at least one lap. NTT P1 Award winner Scott McLaughlin led the most laps, 64, before finishing sixth in the No. 3 Pennzoil Team Penske Chevrolet.
There also were 649 on-track passes, the most in the “500” since 2017.
DETROIT GRAND PRIX
MAY 31-JUNE 2
100 LAPS / 164.5 MILES
A new era of the Detroit Grand Prix began when the event returned to its original home on the streets of Downtown Detroit. The new Grand Prix featured three full days of activities and celebration on some of Detroit’s most popular and active Downtown areas, including racing on a new 1.645-mile, nine-turn street circuit along Jefferson Avenue, Bates Street, Atwater Street, St. Antoine, Franklin Street and Rivard
Yet again, Scott Dixon created clarity from chaos to win an NTT INDYCAR SERIES race.
Dixon provided another master class in devising tactics on the fly with strategist Mike Hull and saving fuel in his No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, prevailing in a cautionstrewn Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on the streets of Detroit.
Six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Dixon beat fellow Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge winner Marcus Ericsson by .8567 of a second in Ericsson’s best result of the season in the No. 28 Delaware Life Honda fielded by Andretti Global. Marcus Armstrong finished third in the No. 11 Root Insurance Chip Ganassi Racing Honda for his first career podium finish.
“The team called it perfectly,” Dixon said. “We were on the right strategy. We won, man. How cool is that?
“It’s just always the variables. Trying to stay out of trouble, trying to keep your car on track. We had rain. It was all over the shop out there. You had no idea how the transitions were going to fall or even the strategy. So stoked for everyone on the team. That was cool.”
Dixon took the championship lead by 18 points from teammate Alex Palou with his second victory of the season, joining his win in April at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Dixon earned his 58th career victory, pulling him within nine wins of tying A.J. Foyt’s record of 67 career wins.
“For sure; I think it always is,” Dixon said when asked if he’s focusing on tying Foyt’s record of seven series championships. “Until you’re out of it, you’re going to keep chasing it. It’s a team effort.”
Kyle Kirkwood finished a season-best fourth in the No. 28 AutoNation Honda fielded by Andretti Global, while Alexander Rossi continued his strong recent form by rounding out the top five in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet. 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner Rossi has finished eighth or better in his last three starts.
Dixon and Hull once again made magic, electing to make their final pit stop under caution at the end of Lap 56 and hoping enough yellow flags continued to fly to stretch fuel until the finish at Lap 100. The strategy worked to perfection, as there were two more caution periods after Dixon’s last stop to let him
save just enough Shell 100% Renewable Race Fuel to reach the finish while parrying the charging Ericsson.
It appeared Dixon might cruise to Victory Lane until the last 13 laps of the race on the nine-turn, 1.645mile temporary street circuit. Then Ericsson passed Kirkwood for third place and then set his sights on Armstrong while lapping nearly a second quicker per circuit than the fuel-sipping Dixon.
Meanwhile, Dixon was dealing with the turbulence and slower pace of the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda of NTT P1 Award winner Colton Herta, directly ahead of him on the tail end of the lead lap. Just 1.6 seconds separated the top three on Lap 94.
Dixon finally got under Herta on Lap 95 for clean track and air. Ericsson had taken a look under Armstrong a few times but couldn’t complete that pass for second until Lap 99, falling 2.1 seconds behind Dixon at the white flag.
Ericsson made the most of his final lap, cutting Dixon’s margin more than in half. Still, it wasn’t enough to catch “The Iceman.”
“After the month of May we had, it was really, really tough mentally,” Ericsson said. “I’m new in this team. I want to show myself as a top driver, as they hired me as. It was really important. We had so much pace. One more lap, and we might have been able to get that win. But great day.”
The first three-quarters of the race were pure chaos, with all eight caution periods and 47 caution laps in the first 73 laps. The longest stretch of greenflag racing during that span was 13 laps, making strategists’ heads spin on the pit wall as they mulled options on the fly while on the radio with drivers.
Add in a rapid change in tire strategy in the first 15 laps when the prevailing wisdom of the Firestone Firehawk alternate tire being the quicker rubber was proven wrong when Palou, who started on used alternates, lost grip far earlier than expected and to pit at the end of Lap 11.
Then toss the arrival of a passing rain shower on Lap 34, which caused strategists and pit crews to scramble up and down pit road as drivers and teams decided whether to pit for rain tires or stay out and gamble that the rain – which didn’t even appear on team radar screens – would leave the area quickly.
Dixon, Ericsson and Kirkwood were among the eight drivers in the 27-car field who never stopped for rain tires. That helped move them higher in the running order and get into position to earn top-five finishes, as their dice roll worked when the light shower left the area in a hurry.
That trio only made two stops the entire race. Dixon took the lead for the first time and for good on Lap 66 when 2023 Detroit winner Palou made the last of his five stops in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Two-time and reigning series champion Palou finished 16th, snapping his streak of 23 consecutive finishes in the top eight in points-paying events.
MAY 26-28
55 LAPS / 220.77 MILES
Established in 1955, Road America is located midway between Milwaukee and Green Bay in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Its legendary four-mile, 14-turn road circuit has challenged the world’s best racers for over a half century. The 640-acre, parklike grounds offer amazing viewing opportunities, fantastic concessions and high-speed excitement to thousands of spectators each year
The drought is over for Will Power.
Power earned his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES victory since June 2022 at Detroit – a span of 34 races – to lead a podium sweep by Team Penske at the XPEL Grand Prix of Road America presented by AMR.
Power had won at least one race for 16 consecutive seasons from 2007-22 before going winless in 2023.
Two-time series champion Power, who started fifth, drove his No. 12 Verizon Business Team Penske Chevrolet to a 3.2609-second victory over teammate Josef Newgarden in the No. 2 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet. Scott McLaughlin finished third in the No. 3 XPEL Team Penske Chevrolet, 8.0148 seconds behind Power.
Power’s 42nd career victory, tying him for fourth with Michael Andretti for all-time INDYCAR SERIES wins, created one of the more emotional, cathartic victory lanes this season in the series. Power was embraced tearfully by his wife, Liz, who Power cared for during her serious illness last year, and his son, Beau, among other team members and friends.
“Massively special,” Power said of the win. “We’ve worked so hard to try to get wins. I worked really hard in the offseason. Obviously, last season was very stressful. Had half a mind at home and half at the track, so it was very difficult to perform at a high level there.
“Man, I’m just stoked. I’m very happy, man. That was very well deserved for the whole team. We worked so hard for that.”
This was the first podium sweep by a team in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES since Andretti Global drivers Colton Herta, Alexander Rossi and Ryan Hunter-Reay took the top three spots in September 2020 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Team Penske’s last podium sweep came in September 2017 at Sonoma Raceway with Simon Pagenaud, Newgarden and Power finishing in that respective order.
Power also took the championship lead by five points over Alex Palou, who finished fourth in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Kyle Kirkwood rounded out the top five in the No. 27 AutoNation Honda of Andretti Global.
The race started in chaotic fashion on Lap 1 when NTT P1 Award winner Linus Lundqvist’s No. 8 American Legion Chip Ganassi Racing Honda was
hit from behind into a spin in Turn 1 by the No. 11 Ridgeline Lubricants Chip Ganassi Racing Honda of teammate Marcus Armstrong.
Newgarden narrowly escaped that incident, as the accordion effect of that fracas forced his nose to hit the rear of front row starter Colton Herta’s No. 26 Gainbridge Honda of Andretti Global with CurbAgajanian, sending Herta’s car into a spin.
Kirkwood took the lead after that incident, with McLaughlin right behind. McLaughlin passed Kirkwood in Turn 1 for the lead on Lap 4 and stayed there until Lap 16, when Newgarden took the top spot after McLaughlin’s first pit stop.
By that point, Power had crept into the top five, and tire tactics began to unfold on the leaders’ respective pit boxes.
Newgarden completed the first 17 laps of the 55lap race on Firestone Firehawk alternate tires, while McLaughlin and Power stayed on Firestone primary tires for their first two stops. INDYCAR rules state drivers must use both tire compounds for at least two laps in each road or street course race.
Alternate, red-sidewall tires had more speed but less durability. So, it appeared Newgarden was in good shape to drive to victory since he already used his alternate tires early in the race, while his two teammates had to run a stint with the alternate tires in the second half of the race.
The pivotal point came on the final pit stops by the Penske lead trio. McLaughlin came to pit road first, shedding his alternate tires for primaries at the end of Lap 42. Newgarden pitted one lap later, staying with a final set of primary tires. He exited pit road well ahead of McLaughlin, as the “overcut” strategy worked.
Power waited until the end of Lap 44 to replace his alternate tires with a fresh set of primary Firestones. The deepest of the “overcuts” prevailed, as Power exited pit lane ahead of Newgarden.
Two-time series champion Newgarden made one final attempt to pass Power at the start of Lap 46, but he couldn’t finish the move. Power then cycled to the lead on Lap 49 as slower drivers on alternate pit strategies made their final stops, and he was never challenged again.
“It was a really good team day,” Newgarden said. “Will did a great job, too. Look, he deserved to win that race, as well.
“We put together a great day. We just probably misstepped there at the end. I feel bad that I came in a lap early. I probably should have stayed out.”
ANDRETTI CAPE INDY NXT
Salvador De Alba Jr. began his professional racing career in 2016 in the Super Copa Telcel series, earning Rookie of the Year Honors that season. He then continued his success racing in the Tractocamiones Freightliner and NASCAR Peak Mexico Series, winning the NASCAR Peak Mexico championship in 2021 and 2023.
The Mexican driver enters the INDY NXT by Firestone championship with a two-year agreement, making his series debut with Andretti Cape INDY NXT and transitioning to Andretti INDY NXT for the 2025 season. When asked which race event he looks forward to most, De Alba was quick to reply: “Mid-Ohio- it was my first U.S. track I ever raced.”
Louisiana native Christian Bogle grew up watching and helping his uncle restore cars, which spawned an interest in working with cars and eventually racing them.
Bogle began racing at 16 and has competed the last three seasons in INDY NXT by Firestone after beginning his career under mentorship of former series champion Jay Howard. Bogle spent three seasons with Howard’s team (FIA US F4 2018-19, USF2000 in 2019-20). He recently has added sports car racing and finished first in the 2023 Asian Le Mans LMP3 series.
Away from the track, Bogle spends his time working on his project car (Nissan Skyline GTR), collecting sneakers and building computers. Bogle describes racing as life-changing in many ways, having lost over 80 pounds to competitively race and working with local foundations like Habitat for Humanity since his family and community were affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Michael d’Orlando’s racing career began in karting at the age of six, and over the next decade he garnered multiple national and international championships, culminating as a factory driver for Birel ART in the 2016 and 2017 FIA CIK World Championships. He made the move to race cars in 2018 for a partial season in the 2018 USF 2000 Championship series and another partial season in the 2019 F4 US Championship series.
Finally moving to full time, d’Orlando spent the next three years with Cape Motorsports in the USF 2000 Championship series, earning top-four in the driver standings each year, including the 2022 USF 2000 Championship title. He is the only driver in the series’ history to earn back-to-back sweeps at the Freedom 75. Most recently, with four wins and six pole positions, d’Orlando finished fourth in the 2023 USF Pro 2000 Championship under the direction of Turn 3 Motorsports.

Gold finished second in the INDY Pro 2000 championships in 2022 with four wins, seven podium finishes and two pole positions. Next up was his first season in INDY NXT by Firestone in 2023, with his victory at the Detroit Grand Prix as a highlight. He also produced four top-five and eight top-10 finishes.
Gold returns for a second INDY NXT season with HMD Motorsports, a back-to-back championship-winning team.
A love of racing runs in Nolan Allaer’s family. A thirdgeneration racer, Allaer spent his childhood at the race track watching his father, uncle and grandfather compete in SCCA club events around the country.
Despite giving up racing to play hockey at age 11, he stayed involved in the sport through sim racing. In 2020, he attended an SCCA racing school as a high school graduation gift. By the end of racing school – a one-time opportunity from his parents -- he was running track record times and had reignited his passion for racing.
He’s been successful, too. He won SCCA national titles in Formula Ford (2023) and Formula Continental (2022-23) and raced in Britain’s highly competitive BRSCC Formula Ford National Championship in 2023, winning his heat race and pole at the prestigious Formula Ford Festival.
Allaer balances racing with being a full-time college student. He’s a junior at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, working toward a degree in mechanical engineering.
Josh Pierson returns with HMD Motorsports for his second season in INDY NXT by Firestone as the youngest driver on the grid at just 18 years old.
Racing a partial season in 2023, Pierson returns full time to open-wheel racing. He was the youngest driver in the USF2000 series in 2020 and 2021 before focusing on sports cars in 2022 in the World Endurance Championship, where he was part of the winning team at the 1000 Miles of Sebring and became the youngest driver to race in the Rolex 24 At Daytona and one of the youngest to race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
All these accomplishments helped Pierson become the first development driver for Ed Carpenter Racing in 2023, returning in that role for the 2024 season working closely with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES team with plans of a 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES campaign.
Outside of breaking records, Pierson enjoys playing music, specifically piano, guitar and saxophone. When describing racing, Pierson describes “driving a car is like art.” If not pursuing racing, Pierson would be either a musician or working in science in marine biology or paleontology.
A native of New Zealand, Callum Hedge was introduced to motorsports at a young age. He drove a friend’s go-kart at the Mount Wellington track, and since then, he has never imagined a life without a steering wheel in his hands.
Hedge won numerous karting titles before stepping into car racing when he was 12. He won in the Ssangyong Ute Racing series and became the youngest champion in NZ Formula Ford and NZ Toyota 86 Series history. He then moved to Australia to compete in the 2019 Australian Formula Ford Championship, where he also was the youngest race winner in series history.

At age 3, Jack William Miller began karting and went on to compete in over 300 karting racing events, earning numerous race wins and championship titles. He also won races and titles in snowmobiles, quads and motocross. Miller then transitioned to open-wheel racing in F4 US in 2017-18 and then climbing the USF ladder system.
Outside of racing, Miller enjoys supporting the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers. When not at the track, he likes to fish, cycle and snowmobile. He is a sophomore student at IUPUI majoring in biology and aspires to go to dental school like his father.
Jacob Abel started racing later than most drivers his age but has made up for the lost time fast. Racing for his family-run team, he’s climbed from karting at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana to INDY NXT by Firestone in just seven seasons.
Abel finished fifth in the INDY NXT by Firestone standings in 2023 with one pole, eight top-five finishes and 11 top-10 finishes. He previously has raced in the FIA F4 US Championship (2017-18); FIA Formula Regionals Championship (2018-20), USF2000 (2017-18) and USF Pro 2000 (2019-21). He’s also raced sports cars as a Honda junior driver and Stadium Super Trucks at Nashville and Long Beach, and finished third in the Formula Regional Oceania Championship in 2023.
When not racing, Abel likes to ski, play tennis and golf. His guilty pleasure food is chili from Skyline Chili on top of spaghetti.
JUNCOS HOLLINGER RACING
Ricardo Escotto, from Mexico, is racing selected INDY NXT by Firestone races in the 2024 season. A current driver in the USF Pro 2000 Championship, Escotto debuted at Detroit, and will race this weekend’s doubleheader WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, before return for the final two races of the season Aug. 31 at Milwaukee and Sept. 15 at the season finale in Nashville.
Escotto participated in the Jay Howard Driver Development program before moving to the USF Pro 2000 Championship in 2023 and 2024.
Lindsay Brewer moves up with Juncos Hollinger Racing for her first INDY NXT by Firestone season in 2024. The 2015 and 2016 Legends Car Racing National Champion has climbed her way one step below the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Previously racing in the USF Pro 2000 championship series and part of the Skip Barber Racing School, Brewer aims to make strides as the second female driver on the 2024 INDY NXT by Firestone grid, joining Jamie Chadwick of Andretti Global. Brewer takes inspiration from former INDYCAR SERIES driver Danica Patrick and seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton as her role models in areas of advocacy for inclusivity in motorsports.
Outside of racing, Brewer likes to read and spend time with her family and friends. She is a graduate of San Diego State with a bachelor’s degree in business management with continued interests in the fashion, business of motorsports and entertainment industries.
Stylish and speedy, Myles Rowe makes his debut in INDY NXT by Firestone in the 2024 season as the 2023 USF Pro 2000 champion, rising one step closer to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Rowe joins HMD Motorsports w/ Force Indy, a pilot program of Penske Entertainment’s Race for Equality and Change. And like many drivers, he began his passion for racing through karting. Following a successful karting debut, Rowe continued to add to his resume: Lucas Oil School Formula Racecar Winter Series champion and two successful seasons in USF2000 (2021-22).
In August 2021, Rowe became the first Black driver to win an INDYCAR-sanctioned race at New Jersey Motorsports Park in his first season in USF2000. That season, Rowe earned a season-high five victories and three poles, 10 podium finishes, 13 top-five finishes and ended up just six points shy of the championship.
Rowe graduated in 2022 from Pace University Manhattan, majoring in film and screen studies, and is arguably the most fashion-forward INDY NXT driver on the 2024 grid.
With its Le Mans style multi-class racing featuring Radical’s turbo-charged 425bhp SR10 and ever popular 1500cc and 1340cc SR3 models, the Radical Cup series isn’t just a fan favorite at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, it has become a recognized breeding ground for future stars. So much so that Graham Rahal now fields a team, training the next generation of drivers and mechanics.
One such driver is PRO 1500 points leader Jordan Missig, who just weeks ago made his INDY NXT debut. After starting his career in Radicals at Chicago’s Autobahn Country Club, Missig starred in the Road to Indy and USF leagues before returning to the Radical Cup.
This weekend he’ll have his hands full with fellow young guns including teammate Nick D’Orlando, Evan Slater and Spencer Schmidt – the son of SP McLaren founder Sam Schmidt.
In addition to full season entrants Schmidt, Corey Neveau and Arul Venkatesh Californian powerhouse Cameron Racing with Radical Northwest is fielding several additional locals to cheer on.
You can also expect an epic battle between veteran drivers including Mike Anzaldi and Jack Yang for Pro 1500 Gold class honors.
But it isn’t just young drivers using Radicals as a “career catapult.” George Kurtz
and John Falb started later in life at Spring Mountain Country Club, honing their skills behind the wheel of SR3s. Kurtz is now a Le Mans winner in LMP2, while Falb is a regular in both the Asian and European Le Mans series.
PRO 1340 will be equally exciting with multi-time starter Chris McMurry and
numerous other drivers from Arizona’s Apex Motor Club taking on the likes of Brazilian sim star come real-world racer Suellio Almeida, Canadian future star Mayer Deonarine and Ben Blander.
Meanwhile former American Le Mans champ and Le Mans class winner Clint Field leads the PLATINUM Class points. However, Clint’s father Jon is the reigning class champion and might be considered a favorite. Multi-time SCCA Runoffs winner, Chip Romer will be another one to watch, as will Louis Schriber III and former dirt track driver Wayne Williams. Look out too for Californian Jeff Ramsey.
Radical isn’t just known for producing drivers. Its factory in the heart of England’s motorsport valley has also trained numerous mechanics now working in Formula 1, with the most recent being Nathan Jones who can be seen manning the Alpine Team’s front jack during pit stops. No wonder Radical’s mantra is “We Make Racers.” To start your own journey visit radicalmotorsport.com.
