Availability at any stage car park will be on a first come, first served basis and is not guaranteed â&#x20AC;&#x201C; even for World Rally Pass holders. To avoid disappointment, spectators should arrive at their chosen car park in plenty of time. Check what time the car park opens â&#x20AC;&#x201C; some open the night before the stage goes live. Arriving a couple of hours before the stage starts is not usually sufficient time to guarantee a parking space.

Please make sure you dress to take full account of the weather. As you may be arriving or departing in the dark, please remember to bring a torch with you. Also remember to wear sturdy footwear for typical forest conditions. Please be aware that

the weather in our new October date is often glorious but it can also be wet and extremely cold, especially for the early morning and late afternoon stages.

Please do not bring your dogs to the event as they can be startled by the loud noises and cause a danger to others â&#x20AC;&#x201C; disabled-assistance dogs only are permitted (on leads at all times).

Bikes

Motor, trail, quad and mountain bikes are not permitted on the rally stages or in the spectator areas. Please do not attempt to access the rally by bike.

Please do not bring drones to the rally as their use is expressly prohibited on or near any part of the event, the stages or service area. Marshals will be empowered to ground any drone that attempts to fly during the event and if required the stage itself will be stopped.

WHERE TO GO

If you are visiting the event for the first time or just want a recommendation on where to catch the best action, you can check out these great stages: Friday: Head to Sweet Lamb for long views of the cars, a natural amphitheatre setting, spectacular water splashes and jumps.

C o m i n g t o t h e r a l ly Dayinsure Wales Rally GB is a Stage Rally motor sport event and forms part of the FIA World Rally Championship. The event takes place over three days of competition and each day is divided into a number of â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Special Stagesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; which are where the drivers race against the clock for the fastest time. For the rest of the event, they have to follow a pre-set schedule on normal public roads to get them to the next Special Stage on time. There are 22 Special Stages run over three days: 8 on Friday, 8 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday. The Timetable will tell you which stages are running when, normally indicated by the time the first car starts that stage. It is useful to look at this combined with the Overall Map (Page 16-17) so that you can see where the stages are in relation to each other and the Deeside Rally Village where the teams are based throughout the event.

Saturday: For family-friendly viewing and entertainment visit the day-long RallyFest stage at Cholmondeley Castle. Starting with the National rally competitors in the morning and concluding with the International field in the afternoon, Cholmondeley will provide entertainment, displays, catering and attractions throughout the day. The WRC front-runners will also be stopping for autographs and selfies! Sunday: To witness the final stage of the year, it has to be the amazing setting of the Llyn Brenig reservoir for the PowerStage.

GETTING THERE

Access to the special stages is by ticket only - you can buy in advance (£25 per adult per day/£20 per adult for the Cholmondeley Castle RallyFest stage) or pay on the gate (£30 per adult per stage). Advanced tickets can be purchased online here to be printed out yourself, or over the phone or at the on-event ticket office in the Deeside Rally Village. Each adult ticket comes with an event programme that you collect on arrival at the stage. Each stage has specially prepared car parks which are normally forest tracks that lead to a part of the stage. These tracks can be muddy, uneven and quite long – the earlier you get there, the nearer the top of the car park you will be. From the car park you will be able to access one of the designated viewing locations which are usually

FOR THE MORE ADVENTUROUS

Those with day passes or three day World Rally Passes (£99) can plan a route to spectate at various different stages during the day. Most of the stages, though, are run twice during the day giving those who choose not to move a double dose of the World Rally Championship stars. Once again, check the official Wales Rally GB timetable for full details and remember there’s also the National Rally running alongside the main WRC event which provides visitors with even more interest and entertainment. The National Rally timetable can be found on page 13.

FREE OF CHARGE ACCESS AREAS The Rally Village in Deeside is the ‘pits and paddock’ where the teams prepare the cars for the challenges ahead. Each morning the cars start out from the Rally Village and return here in the early evening. This is a great chance to gain a fantastic insight into the sport, access is totally FREE and there is an array of entertainments. The Rally Village is open from Thursday morning to Sunday afternoon – don’t miss the fantastic party atmosphere of the Saturday night. Other free admission areas during the event are the Thursday evening Ceremonial Start at Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay, the Friday lunchtime visit to central Newtown, Friday evening’s return to the rally heartland of Chester and the Ceremonial Finish in Llandudno.

These are the safest places to watch the dramatic rally action, but you should still heed important Safety Advice and always listen to the marshals who are there to help keep you safe. All stages feature catering units and public toilet facilities while the stages at Cholmondeley Castle, Sweet Lamb and Brenig will also have some retail stands selling gifts and merchandise.

This purpose-built arena attracts huge crowds, drawn by the fantastic viewing opportunities that include a water splash and spectacular jumps. CHOLMONDELEY CASTLE RALLYFEST IN ASSOCIATION WITH GREENTHUMB Cholmondeley Castle provides the stunning backdrop to the family-friendly RallyFest as the rally comes to Cheshire and is the logical place to entertain guests on the Saturday. Easily accessible, the fun-filled entertainment and displays will last throughout the day, with the hospitality marquee located adjacent to the track for the best views of the action. LLYN BRENIG The picturesque Llyn Brenig reservoir, located in the North Wales hills, hosts the event’s final Power Stage. A sumptuous Sunday service overlooking the lake offers the perfect preparation for the spectacular climax, as the world’s best drivers go flat out towards the finish line to crown this year’s winner on the podium which is situated right next to hospitality. Adult tickets include a copy of the Official Programme (priced at £9) which will be available for collection in the stages. Programmes will also be available for purchase at key locations during the event, including the Ceremonial Start and Deeside Rally Village. World Rally Pass holders will receive a voucher with their pass which they should hand over to receive their complimentary copy of the programme. Programmes for all other ticket holders will be fulfilled upon production of the E-ticket. Only one programme may be redeemed per ticket.

2016 Dayinsure Wales Rally GB is seeking to achieve the FIA Institute Environmental Accreditation at the Highest level of ‘Excellence’. WRGB’s goal is to make the event more sustainable. All visitors to the event can help us to protect our ‘Green’ environment: • Please do not discard your litter – it can cause damage to the forest and harm to its wildlife. Please place all litter in the recycling bins, skips or black bags provided for this purpose. Alternatively, take your litter home with you. • Fires, barbeques and fireworks are prohibited. They can cause damage to the forest and serious incidents for other spectators or competitors. • Please consider car-sharing opportunities or use of public transport when visiting the event. • The forest ground will be uneven; please tread carefully and respect the environment. • Follow the Countryside Code.

Satellite navigation co-ordinates have been supplied as degrees / decimal minutes. Please ensure you use the correct setting on your satellite navigation systems. Satellite navigation equipment may not inform you about road closures related to the event, so please refer to the stage-specific directions in this planner before setting out.

Disabled access

Dayinsure Wales Rally GB welcomes disabled spectators and will do all that is possible to ensure a pleasurable experience. The stage rally environment is such that the majority of car parks, stages and other locations are likely to be physically demanding and rigorous. We are unable to offer dedicated disabled parking and viewing areas at most Special Stages. Therefore it is recommended that disabled customers who wish to attend the event visit the following venues: • Ceremonial start and autograph signing at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay – Thursday (free to view) • SS2 / SS6 Sweet Lamb stage - Friday • SS16 Cholmondeley Castle RallyFest - Saturday • SS18 / SS22 Brenig stage - Sunday • Ceremonial Finish in Llandudno - Sunday (free to view) • Deeside Rally Village - Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (free to enter) All disabled parking areas are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and all disabled persons wishing to gain access to the dedicated car parking areas listed above will need to display their official Blue Badge in the car. Advance tickets can also be purchased from the ticket office in the Rally Village open from Wednesday 26th October – Saturday 29th October. * If you wish to park a motorhome or camper van overnight at Sweet Lamb there will be a charge made by the landowner (collected on arrival) of £10 per vehicle arriving between 8pm on Thursday 27th October and 5am on Friday 28th October.

Instead they should be collected from the official ticket office at the Deeside Rally Village. • Availability at any car park will be on a first-come, first-served basis and is not guaranteed. To avoid disappointment, all spectators should arrive at their

Broad and Severn Streets in the town centre will be closed to through traffic and reserved exclusively for the rally cars which will start arriving just after 12 noon. centre of the historic walled city of Chester for the first time in 20 years. The cars and stars will start arriving shortly after 18.30 on Friday evening after the opening day’s competition. After photos, autographs and interviews, they will pass under the famous Eastgate Clock and over the official podium en route to an overnight halt at the Rally Village in Deeside.

Before things get going in earnest competitors will gather at the Clocaenog stage on Thursday for the traditional shakedown. This is a last chance for teams and drivers to iron out any niggles as well as get their first taste of Welsh conditions. Clocaenog is a good place to do this: just over 40km from Rally Village on Deeside – meaning it is relatively easy to get to for teams as well as spectators – the stage also offers plenty of opportunity for action. The teams return here in anger on Sunday.

It’s all change for the first full day of this year’s Dayinsure Wales Rally GB with the traditional loop of three stages just east of Llangurig running in the opposite direction to previous years. After the crowd-pleasing start in Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay on Thursday evening, Myherin is the first competition action on Friday morning. The stage closes with an epic run down the wide hairpins – neat and tidy will be the quickest approach, but there’s plenty of room for entertainment.

Elfyn Evans Myherin is quite a wide stage and perhaps the widest of the rally with quite a compact surface. Drivers really enjoy this stage as you can pick your lines and use the entire road. The nature of the stage makes it very high speed for Wales Rally GB.

Undoubtedly, one of the world’s premier spectator stages, Sweet Lamb will offer an entirely new challenge to the drivers this year – and the good news is that spectating at the hugely popular test just off the A44 has never been as easy or as rewarding. The cars will be using a bridge to come across the river, before some flat-out action in the central bowl area. After that, it’s round a hairpin, over a jump, through the water and away up the hill.

The new stage route means there will also be excellent viewing from the top of the car park as competitors pass close by on a section of route previously unused.

No, we’re not talking about the route for this year’s Dayinsure Wales Rally GB, we’re talking about the River Severn – Afon Hafren as it’s known locally – the source of which is passed in the middle of this test. Hafren’s a mid-Wales classic, a never-ending series of twists and turns just outside Staylittle in the woods above Llyn Clywedog.

Llangadfan

One of the most popular stages on the route every year with legions of Irish fans adding to the atmosphere on this one. Unlike the three stages which preceed it in the loop, Dyfnant will run in the same direction as last year, which means some fantastic spectating at a hairpin left in the middle of the stage. The fast approach to this section comes via ‘Irish Corner’. Getting into Dyfnant is straightforward, turning off the A458 onto the B4395 just outside Llangadfan.

V 3: Follow the signs from the centre of the car park (via horse trail 68), the viewing area is on the exit to the flowing bends at V 2. V 4: Approx 2km from the car park entrance, this is the main area for spectating and contains a tight hairpin left turn.

Elfyn Evans Dyfnant is a fantastic stage with a fast start becoming more technical as it goes on. You can use the banks in a few places to bounce off – which can be exciting for spectators. You can get changeable grip and if it rains, it will make grip more consistent and the rain will clean the stage and improve traction, especially on the second pass.

Just outside Machynlleth, you’ll find one of the world’s finest stages located off Wales’ main north-south road, the A470. Some of the best views are accessed from the village of Corris (A487), where Colin McRae famously played pool in a pub on the morning he would become world champion in 1995. Dyfi runs in the opposite direction to last year – first time in this configuration since 2011. It matters not a jot which way this one runs, it’s an absolute classic in every direction.

V 1: With easy access from the car park, stand on a raised bank watching the cars cresting the climb from the valley. V 2: Continue to follow the footpath through V 1 for 600m to see competitors making a fast downhill approach into a sweeping right-hand bend.

Access is from A470 at Aberangell, 2 miles south of junction with A458 (Mallwyd). Car parks I and J share an entrance - when approaching the entrance, filter left at the split to reach car park I. A470 will be a temporary clearway between Mallwyd and Cemmaes Road. All other minor access roads will be closed. V 3: Walking from the top of the car park will take you to cleared walkways and raised earth bank standing areas which provide close-proximity viewing of the stage. Elfyn Evans One of my local stages and a real classic one. Generally quite a muddy stage and then becomes polished on the second pass. The first 5km is very fast and it then slows into a technical challenge towards the end.

A hop across a public road takes the crews from Dyfi into Gartheiniog. Given that these stages are so close geographically (and technically part of the same forest) the nature of the tests are very similar. The road surface here is slightly harder than day one’s more southerly stages. Garth runs to exactly the same line and length as last season, which means you can get an amazing view of the cars being launched off the line and into a hairpin left if you’re in early enough.

* Please do not move between the Dyfi and Gartheiniog stage car parks in the interval between runs. The access roads are single track, with potentially serious bottlenecks. Congestion here could affect the main trunk roads. Should this occur the police will close the access and the car park exits completely.

Elfyn Evans Just over the road from Dyfi, Gartheiniog has a similar surface and goes well together with Dyfi. This is my favourite stage on the event – and is the closest to my house! If you can find that perfect rhythm, it’s a really enjoyable stage to drive.

The crews head north from Powys to Gwynedd for the final forest stage on day two of Dayinsure Wales Rally GB. And Aberhirnant is definitely one for the brave. The cars start at the bottom of the hill and are fired into one of the most exhilarating roads of the season. It’s an absolute cracker for the fans too. Located just south of Bala, Aberhirnant’s a great way of breaking the liaison route from the second run at Gartheiniog to the RallyFest test at Cholmondeley Castle.

It gives a good view of competitors racing through a combination of bends. V 3: This area is reached from mid-way along the car park. Follow the steep uphill path for 800m then cross the stage to the raised viewing area. It gives a good view of competitors racing through a very tight twisty uphill section.

Elfyn Evans Myherin is fast but this is the fastest stage on Wales Rally GB and some high top speeds are achieved on some very long straights with a few high-commitment corners thrown in as well. Always a great challenge.

This stage is Dayinsure Wales Rally GB’s first visit to England since 1999. Having run plenty of events of this nature in recent years, Cholmondeley is well versed in getting fans in and out with minimum fuss and maximum fun. By no means the longest stage on the route, but potentially wet, leafy asphalt can be as tricky as any forest road. And where else do you get the chance to see a donut, eat a doughnut and grab an autograph from a still sweaty Sébastien Ogier?

Anybody heading down to Dayinsure Wales Rally GB from the north-west should have a good look at the Clocaenog stage – it’s just about the closest and most accessible forest action for you. Just over 40km from Rally Village on Deeside, Clocaenog offers plenty of action – this very stage cost JariMatti Latvala his rear wing when he spun in the spectator area two years ago. Anybody attending Thursday’s shakedown test will be familiar with the spectator car park – it’s the same one!

Elfyn Evans Probably the most slippery stage on the second pass as it is notorious for polishing and there a few large braking areas, which may not gain you time but you can lose a great deal if you get them wrong. You have to commit in the stage but be sure not to make mistakes, as it will cost you.

Access is only from the south off the A5 & B5105 from Ruthin. The B4501 is closed. From the south, access the car parks via the A5. A clearway order is in place on the B5105. All minor roads around the stages are closed. V 1: Follow signs from the visitor centre and walk across the top of the dam to the Power Stage Finish Podium. The spectator viewing area is from the dam wall. Excellent views of the competitors as they approach the finish of the stage. V 2: Follow signs from the visitor centre to the viewing area below the dam, a 25 minute walk. Do not walk across the grass banking. The viewing area is elevated with excellent views down the valley.

Special Stage Route

Set alongside the beautiful Llyn Brenig, this stage has undergone some significant changes from last year. The first half of the test is reversed, but clever use of the link roads in the depths of the woods mean the cars will still come into the spectator area in the same way they did last season. The really good news is the finish has been moved to right in front of the fans. Now, if you stay for the second run through Brenig, you’ll be treated to a champagne finish of the Power Stage.

From this car park you can access the Brenig stage by follow the signs for viewing area 1 or 2 from car park O

Elfyn Evans It is different in character to the rest of the rally. The surface is more of a gravel track than a forest road, and is tricky in places as there are a few sections that can catch you out. You have to have your wits about you. Lots of different surface changes and a really interesting stage to end the rally on.

Spectator Access Route

This stage offers easy access for those coming down from Wales’ north coast. Alwen’s typical of the roads in this area in that it doesn’t flow in the way the roads do in mid-Wales, but it remains a real challenge with some very, very big speed in places. The straights and junctions will play to the strengths of those able to keep the car neat and tidy, especially if the weather’s wet – grip is always at a premium here in the rain.

Elfyn Evans Alwen has a fast character and yet technical in parts to break it up. Starts with a few fast places into some junctions and then as the stage goes on, it gets more flowing and technical. It’s quite an enjoyable stage.
