SPECTATOR SAFETY ON THE STAGE

• DANGER NO SPECTATORS BEYOND THIS POINT – means what it says • Look after yourself and don’t place yourself or others in danger • Plan to be in your chosen location 45 minutes before the first car is due • Look after your children • No dogs unless disabled-assistance dogs • First aid is available at all stage car parks • Spectator areas are defined with black and yellow tape and black and yellow or green scrim • DO NOT stand behind the red and white tape The FIA Safety Delegate will expect everyone to be in location when they come around, this will be 30-40 minutes before the first car is due. Marshals will give a long blow on their whistle to advise you that you MUST now be in your final location (and standing up). The Safety Delegate and/or the Organisers can and will cancel stages if people are not standing in appropriate places. Many competitors carry on-board cameras. The footage is viewed by Rally Control throughout the event. If spectators are seen in unacceptable locations the stage can and will be stopped. #AriNeedsYou

We want everyone to enjoy the event, to have fun and to go home safely. Please pay attention at all times and take responsibility for your own safety – and that of others.

RALLY CARS CAN DO THE UNEXPECTED SO, FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AND THAT OF OTHERS, PLEASE: • Respect the marshals and follow their instructions • Observe the colour-coded tape and all signage • Use the natural environment to protect yourself • Don’t walk on the rally stage • Stay standing and remain alert • Remember that alcohol and drugs can impair your responses and threaten your safety

ENVIRONMENT

• Take your litter home or put it in the bins provided • No fires or barbeques • The ground WILL be uneven – it is a forest, tread carefully • No fireworks • Follow the countryside code

SUSPICIOUS ITEMS

Please ensure you keep your belongings with you at all times. Do not leave bags etc lying around if you move to a different viewing area. If you see an unattended or suspicious item: • Do not touch • Try to identify an owner in the immediate area • If you still feel it’s suspicious or you feel concerned, don’t be embarrassed or think anyone else will report it • Report it to the nearest marshal whether in a tabard near you or a radio marshal in their car. If it is before the competitors have started, please stop one of the safety cars and advise them of your concerns • Move away to a safe distance – ideally at least 100m • It is a condition of entry that you agree to a search of your vehicle, property or person if selected. REMEMBER – if you think it’s suspicious – say something

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR DAY ARRIVE AT THE CAR PARKS IN PLENTY OF TIME

Availability at any stage car park will be on a first come, first served basis and is not guaranteed – even for World Rally Pass holders. To avoid disappointment, spectators should arrive at their chosen car park in plenty of time. Check what time the car park opens – some open the night before the stage goes live. Arriving a couple of hours before the stage starts is not usually sufficient time to guarantee a space.

WRAP UP WARM

Please make sure you dress to take full account of the weather. As you may be arriving or departing in the dark, please remember to bring a torch with you. Also remember to wear sturdy footwear for typical forest conditions. Please be aware that the weather in October is often glorious but it can also be wet and extremely cold, especially for the early morning and late afternoon stages.

DOGS

Please do not bring your dogs to the event as they can be startled by the loud noises and cause a danger to themselves or others – only disabled-assistance dogs are permitted (on leads at all times).

BIKES

Motor, trail, quad and mountain bikes are not permitted on the rally stages or in the spectator areas. Please do not attempt to access the rally by motorbike.

DRONES

Please do not bring drones to the rally as their use is expressly prohibited on or near any part of the event, the stages or service area. Marshals will be empowered to ground any drone that attempts to fly during the event and, if required, the stage itself will be stopped.

SELFIE STICKS AND ACTION CAMERAS

Use of selfie sticks and action cameras (such as GoPros) is not forbidden however spectators are reminded to use these in a sensible manner without putting themselves and others at risk. Action cameras must not be placed on the rally route where they are likely to get hit by cars.

LITTER

Please take all litter home with you or place it in the skips or black bags provided for this purpose. Do not leave it in the forest.

FIRES AND FIREWORKS

Please do not light fires or barbeques or bring fireworks to the event. They can cause serious incidents for other spectators or competitors and can also damage the forest.

Wales Rally GB is a Stage Rally motor sport event and forms part of the FIA World Rally Championship. The event takes place over four days of competition and each day is divided into a number of â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Special Stagesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; which are where the drivers race against the clock for the fastest time. For the rest of the event, they have to follow a pre-set schedule on normal public roads to get them to the next Special Stage on time.

There are 22 Special Stages run over four days: 1 on Thursday, 9 on Friday, 7 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday. The timetable will tell you which stages are running when, normally indicated by the time the first car starts that stage. It is useful to look at this combined with the overall map so that you can see where the stages are in relation to each other. The Service Park in Llandudno where the teams are based throughout the event.

WHERE TO GO

If you are visiting the event for the first time or just want a recommendation on where to meet the stars or catch the best action, you can check out these great venues: LIVERPOOL: For the first time in history, 2019 Wales Rally GB is setting off from Liverpool city’s historic Waterfront. It’s the first time Britain’s round of the FIA World Rally Championship has started outside Wales since 1999. Spectators at the Pier Head can expect autographs, footage broadcast on the big screen and high-octane atmosphere. OULTON PARK: 2019’s action will kick off at Oulton Park race circuit near Chester. A full evening of entertainment is planned, with appearances from WRC legends and iconic vehicles, live music and DJs, historic rally displays and an autograph session which will be open to all spectators. Something for all the family! SLATE MOUNTAIN: Set in spectacular surroundings, Slate Mountain is an unparalleled stage for spectators. The tight, narrow and rocky stage along the slate quarry proves to be one of the rally’s most dramatic to watch. COLWYN BAY: Ideal for those new to rallying, this new exciting stage along the Promenade in Colwyn Bay will provide entertainment, food and an incredible backdrop. Fans can expect plenty of donuts, hairpins and chicanes to make the competition even more interesting. GREAT ORME: Back for 2019, this popular stage could be the highlight of your weekend. Taking place on the cliffside of Llandudno’s Great Orme, you’ll see teams gain or lose a lot of time as they slide the cars around the spectacular coastal road.

GETTING THERE

Access to the Special Stages is by ticket only you can buy in advance or pay on the gate, subject to availability. The earlier you purchase your tickets, the cheaper the price you will pay. Access to the Ceremonial Start in Liverpool is free of charge. Advanced tickets can be purchased for you to print out either over the phone, online here, or on-event at the ticket office in Venue Cymru, Llandudno. Each adult ticket, with the exception of Oulton Park tickets, comes with an event programme that you collect on arrival at the stage. Each stage has specially prepared car parks which are normally forest tracks that lead to a part of the stage. These tracks can be muddy, uneven and quite long – the earlier you get there, the nearer the top of the car park you will be. From the car park you will be able to access one of the designated viewing locations which are usually quite large areas in the forests/fields and will be marked out with yellow and black tape. These are the safest places to watch the dramatic rally action, but you should still heed important safety advice and always listen to the marshals who are there to help keep you safe. Remember to bring lots of warm clothes – it is October after all! All stages feature catering units and public toilet facilities while the stages at Oulton Park, Slate Mountain, Sweet Lamb, Colwyn Bay and Brenig will also have some retail stands selling gifts and merchandise.

FOR THE MORE ADVENTUROUS

Those with day passes or four-day World Rally Passes can plan a route to spectate at various different stages during the day. Most of the stages are run twice during the day giving those who choose not to move a double dose of the WRC stars. Once again, check the official Wales Rally GB timetable for full details and remember there’s also the National Rally running alongside the main WRC event on Friday and Saturday which provides even more interest and entertainment. The National Rally timetable can be found on page 13.

FREE OF CHARGE ACCESS AREAS

The Service Park in Llandudno is the ‘pits and paddock’ where the teams prepare the cars for the challenges ahead. Each morning the cars start out from the Service Park and return here in the early evening, as well as a lunchtime regroup on Friday. This is a great chance to gain a fantastic insight into the sport, access is totally FREE and there is an array of entertainments. Other free admission areas during the event are Thursday’s Ceremonial Start in Liverpool and a Friday lunchtime visit to central Newtown and Sunday’s Ceremonial Finish in Llandudno.

Every year, Wales Rally GB strives to deliver an exceptional world championship event. We acknowledge that, along with other WRC events around the world, we are uniquely placed to inspire our audiences, supply chains, and the wider motorsport community to work towards a more sustainable future. Behind the scenes a lot of work is being undertaken in order to protect the forests, historic locations, and Service Park where the event takes place. You, our loyal spectators, can play a key role in promoting our message and protecting these locations to ensure that once the rally leaves an area, no trace is left. SPECTATOR INFORMATION

OFFICIAL PROGRAMME

Adult tickets, with the exception of Oulton Park tickets, include a copy of the Official Programme (priced at £9) which will be available for collection at the stages and key locations during the event. World Rally Pass and Rally Xtra buyers will receive a voucher with their pass which they should hand over to receive their copy of the Programme. Programmes for all other ticket holders will be fulfilled upon presentation of their ticket. Only one Programme can be redeemed per ticket.

Satellite navigation co-ordinates have been supplied as degrees / decimal minutes. Please ensure you use the correct setting on your satellite navigation systems. Satellite navigation equipment may not inform you about road closures related to the event, so please refer to the stage-specific directions in this planner before setting out.

DISABLED ACCESS

Wales Rally GB welcomes disabled spectators and will do all that is possible to ensure a pleasurable experience. The stage rally environment is such that the majority of car parks and stages and other locations are likely to be physically demanding and rigorous. We are unable to offer dedicated disabled parking and viewing areas at most Special Stages. Therefore, it is recommended that disabled customers who wish to attend the event consider the venues listed below: • • • • • • • •

New for 2019, Oulton Park will have something for all the family with a selection of WRC rally cars from the last 75 years, entertainment, pyrotechnics and music. Spectators can also upgrade their visit with a seat in the Knickerbrook grandstand.

FRIDAY DAY PASS

Gain access to Elsi, Penmachno, Dyfnant, Aberhirnant and Slate Mountain for the second day of fierce competition.

SUPER SATURDAY DAY PASS

Dyfi, Myherin, Hafren, Sweet Lamb and a special stage at Colwyn Bay make up Super Saturday this year. Not to be missed!

COLWYN BAY

A part of the bill for Super Saturday, fans can expect plenty of donuts, hairpins and chicanes on the promenade with the Irish Sea as a backdrop.

SUNDAY DAY PASS

The final day sees the WRC action in North Wales with two tough forest stages and a challenging timed run around the Great Orme, before returning to Llandudno for the Ceremonial Finish.

Three Rally Xtra hospitality options are available for visitors seeking an enhanced experience with food, dedicated viewing areas, premium toilet facilities, commentary and results.

Oulton Park tickets are available to purchase until 23:59 on Monday 30th September – tickets will not be available to purchase at the gate on the day. All other advance tickets will be available for purchase until the day before the event and customers will have the convenience of printing their own online tickets, except for Rally Xtra and World Rally Passes. TERMS AND CONDITIONS

CHILDREN • All children must be accompanied by an adult. • Children aged 15 and under go free with the exception of Rally Xtra venues where children aged 5 and under go free and children aged 6-15 years will require a discounted ticket AND with the exception of Oulton Park grandstand where they will require a grandstand ticket. OULTON PARK ACCESS • The World Rally Pass excludes general admission to Oulton Park. World Rally Pass holders need to purchase a £5 access ticket to gain general admission to Oulton Park. World Rally Pass holders will be required to present both their World Rally Pass AND Oulton Park access e-ticket to gain general admission to Oulton Park.

• Grandstand seats are only valid in conjunction with an admission ticket or World Rally Pass and upgrade. DELIVERY • World Rally Passes are hard copy tickets and require postal delivery and will be subject to a standard delivery fee of £4.00 per transaction. An international, track and trace delivery option is available for £9.50 per transaction. • Rally Xtra Passes are hard copy tickets and require postal delivery which is included in the price of the pass. • World Rally Passes and Rally Xtra Passes will be dispatched from late August in plain envelopes by secure delivery, signature required (UK only). All other tickets will be sent electronically to the customer (usually within 24 hours) who should ensure they have either printed out or

downloaded their ticket(s) to their mobile phone prior to arrival at the event. • World Rally Passes and Rally Xtra Passes ordered for international delivery on or after 9am on Friday 20th September or for UK delivery on or after 9am on Friday 27th September will not be posted as we cannot guarantee delivery before the Rally. Instead they should be collected from the rally ticket office at Venue Cymru, Llandudno. • World Rally Pass buyers will be issued with ONE World Rally Car Park Pass per order. Additional car park passes will be available to buy at the time of purchase, limited to the number of World Rally Passes purchased. Any requests for more than this will be cancelled and refunded. • World Rally Passes and Rally Xtra Passes which are lost or stolen (once they have been signed for) will not be replaced.

PROGRAMME FULFILMENT • One official souvenir event programme (value £9.00) per adult ticket/pass with the exception of Oulton Park tickets. • Programme fulfilment will be via a voucher for the World Rally Pass. • Programmes for E-tickets purchased in advance will be fulfilled upon production of the E-ticket. • Programmes for tickets purchased at the car parks or the rally ticket office in Venue Cymru will be fulfilled at time of purchase. • Additional programmes can be purchased for £9 each. CAR PARKING & AVAILABILITY • Availability at any car park will be on a first come, first served basis and is not guaranteed. To avoid disappointment, all spectators should arrive at their chosen car park in plenty of time.

• Where overnight parking is permitted, a £10 charge per car / £20 per van/motorhome/ caravan (cash only, payable on arrival) will apply for all vehicles arriving before 5am, except for World Rally Pass holders. Overnight car park locations and times will be available in the online Rally Planner. • Parking charges may apply at the Great Orme. There is no dedicated parking in Colwyn Bay – parking charges will apply in public car parks. CONSENT • All ticket holders give their express consent to the use of their actual or simulated likeness in connection with the production, exhibition, advertising or exploitation of any film, video and/or audio recording of this event and/or any element thereof in any/all media throughout the world.

FREE OF CHARGE ACCESS

NEWTOWN REGROUP FREE OF Newtown play host to Saturday’s CHARGE lunchtimewill Regroup for the cars competing ACCESS in the International event. Broad and Severn Streets in the town centre will be closed to through traffic and reserved exclusively for the rally cars which will start arriving just after 12:15. It’s another great chance to see the mud-splattered turbocharged machines up close.

LLANDUDNO SERVICE PARK

New for 2019, the Service Park is in Llandudno and will be home to all the teams for the duration of the world championship event. Fans will be able to watch the crews bring their cars in to be repaired and serviced in their dedicated paddock areas as well as enjoy a full schedule of entertainment around the town and at Venue Cymru. The Service Park will be open as follows: • Thursday 3rd October: 9:00 – 22:00 • Friday 4th October: 9:00 – 23:00 • Saturday 5th October: 9:00 – 23:00 • Sunday 6th October: 9:00 – 16:00

4.68km (2.73 miles) Last year’s Wolf Power Stage becomes this year’s shakedown for Wales Rally GB, albeit in a much shortened form. It’s technical, tricky and less flowing than some of the roads in mid-Wales. It will serve as a great way to welcome the World Rally Championship to Wales.

Gravel forest road with a steep uphill walk to the viewing locations Toilets & Catering The only approach to the stage is from the south at Betws-y-Coed via the A5 and join the B5106. There is no access to the stage from Llanrwst or from the Trefriw/Conwy side of the valley. There will be a network of road closures around the stage, approach only permitted from the A5 in Betws Y Coed. V1: Access by a footpath on the left near the head of the car park. The viewing area is 1.2km into the stage and is a tight, uphill hairpin right. The elevated banking on the exit of the junction offers good viewing for the approach and exit. Additional viewing is located 200m further up the stage using the same footpath and this is a fast open uphill hairpin left with viewing from the inside of the bend only. V3: Access by a footpath on the left from the car park, this a longer walk than V1. It is 1.8km into the stage and offers a fast left which has a quick approach and exit. Viewing is from an elevated position.

16.19km (10.06 miles) A really fast stage which runs up the valley and into the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. New for last year was a closed-road asphalt stretch, which provides a real change of tempo from the slate-covered and slippery Welsh forest test.

Penmachno village will be closed off to spectators and the roads surrounding the area will be the subject of traffic restrictions and road closure orders, in some places clearways will also be enforced. V1: A combination of a fast, flowing downhill sweeping bend leading into a tight hairpin left. The viewing is on raised banking and in an area of mature trees. V2: Long views of the cars as they travel through an open area with both a fast right and then sweeping left bends leading into a short technical section before they disappear from sight. Viewing is from a raised banking with some mature trees around the arena.

“Penmachno is a North Wales classic. It starts on a fairly technical, narrow section through the quarry, before the stage opens up to be very quick, not least the section of asphalt in the middle. 19.36km (11.80 miles) Back to its full length after running a shortened version last season, Dyfnant is one of the absolute classics on the route. Generally fast and flowing, this is a test which really rewards commitment and speed. If the weather cuts up rough and the rain comes, the grip levels can actually go up and become more consistent as the rain washes away a top layer of mud.

11.20km (6.96 miles) Almost certain to be one of the fastest stages on the route, this test high above the town of Bala is always in prime condition with a great surface, which drains well and offers good grip. There are plenty of places to make up time here, especially if you’re in-tune with the car and willing to take a risk or two.

25.86km (15.84 miles) An absolute belter of a stage to start the weekend’s action. Known and loved the world over, Dyfi offers a typical mid-Wales challenge of lovely long corners with some really fast sections and not many junctions to interrupt the rhythm. If there’s been a lot of rain ahead of the event, there could be plenty of standing water on the inside of corners, making for some spectacular pictures.

Prepared viewing areas also continue downhill from the junction. V2: Continue to follow the footpath through V1 (against rally route) for 600m, to see competitors pulling uphill through a series of sweeping and tightening bends before a fast uphill section to crest the climb.

Access is from A470 at Aberangell, 2 miles south of junction with A458 (Mallwyd). A470 will be a temporary clearway between Mallwyd and Cemmaes Road. All other minor access roads will be closed. V3: Walking from the top of the car park will take you to cleared walkways and raised earth bank standing areas, which provide close-proximity viewing of the stage. From a high-speed twisty approach, competitors appear over a small crest and plunge downhill to turn right at a junction before accelerating away through a right-hand bend.

25.65km (15.96 miles) An absolute favourite with the fans. The spectating on offer in the main Sweet Lamb bowl has to be some of the easiest and most rewarding watching on offer in the WRC. Hafren provides the mainstay of this test and it has always been one of the most challenging, with lots of grip changes – especially on the second run when the road tends to polish and become slippier than ever.

2.40km (1.49 miles) The perfect way to round off a day in the woods, this new-for-2019 seaside test offers fans the chance to watch their heroes wind their way along the Colwyn Bay promenade. The short stage won’t be the most taxing of Wales’ WRC Saturday, but it will certainly be one of the most entertaining.

USE PUBLIC CAR PARKS

Open all day 2.40km Maximum distance of approx 1km (10 minute walk) from the Council car park off Coed Pella Road. Asphalt Many facilities in both Rhos-on-Sea and Colwyn Bay town centres including toilets and catering outlets. For those travelling Eastbound (towards Chester) exit at junction 20 and follow the yellow directional signage for on-street parking around Rhos-onSea. For those travelling westbound (towards Conwy) use junction 21 and follow the directional signage to the town centre car parks. The promenade road will be closed from Marine Road to Cliff Gardens. Viewing will be on the promenade itself from the location of the old pier to the Old Colwyn junction.

10.41km (6.46 miles) The Alwen stage has always been quite distinct in its nature, with plenty of junctions and more square corners than any other forest stage on the itinerary. Between those ‘90s’, the road is mighty quick and – following a lot of harvesting work across recent years – more open with improved viewing.

“Alwen is a straightforward stage. It’s quite fast but has lots of square corners. The run alongside the lake provides some great spectating spots – more so now there’s been some tree felling. The surface of Sunday’s stages tends to be softer and wetter than those in mid-Wales due to the famous weather.”

6.43km (4.00 miles) Brenig is fast becoming one of the most recognisable stages on the Wales Rally GB route. Running along the shores of Llyn Brenig, the test starts with a lovely mixture of fast, open corners and then onto an asphalt lane to the finish.

4.74km (2.98 miles) A real departure from the woods, this all-asphalt stage runs around the Great Orme headland. Sébastien Ogier’s run around here last season was one of the highlights of the year as the Frenchman cut across pavements and ran within inches of the rock face on the way to a sensational time. Spectating on top of the Orme is an absolute treat, but go prepared for all kinds of conditions, it’s quite exposed.

“There’s a debate whether it’s best to be sitting on the cliff-side or the sea-side of the car – I’ll be on the latter this year as it’s being run anti-clockwise. While the Orme is a short stage, you can really gain time. You don’t want to be tentative as you’ll lose seconds to those maximising the roads and cutting the kerbs.”

Grassed parking area in field with gravel tracks to viewing areas. Catering, toilets, first aid available at viewing area. Exit A55 at J18 and follow signs to Wales Rally GB Great Orme car park. The promenade road will be closed from Venue Cymru to the Imperial Hotel. V1: offers elevated viewing from above the stage at the Zigzags, cars passing through a fast section of road. V2: Located above the mid point of the Orme section, this area sees the cars tackling a sweeping left-hand bend into a right, and then round a righthand bend, then accelerating along an undulating straight. V3: Offers great viewing as the cars take a long sweeping left-hand bend before accelerating into a series of twists and turns.
