Dr. Carol Ryan Awarded 2023 Veterinarian of the Year

Carol Ryan, DVM, practitioner at Troy & Wentzville Veterinary Clinics, Wentzville, Mo was honored as the recipient of the coveted 2023 Veterinarian of the Year Award. Dr. Robert Hertzog presented the award to Dr. Ryan at the ceremony.

Dr. Ryan is a 1992 graduate of the University of Missouri-College of Veterinary Medicine. She has worked as a mixed animal practitioner at the Troy & Wentzville Veterinary Clinics since graduation. She was raised on a registered Angus and swine farm and is still involved in the production of beef at the family’s Centralia farm. She is a member of the AVMA, MVMA, and the GSLVMA. Dr. Ryan has been president of the MVMA and its Academy, AAVSB Race program screener and a cochairman of the Missouri State Medical Board. She is an AVMA alternate delegate and attends many nationwide meetings focusing on AVMA advocacy and leadership training.

She currently serves on AVMA’s Committee of Scientific Activities. She is a member of Sacred Heart Church, the St. Charles Cattlemen’s and Pork Producers, is a 4-H club leader and a 4-H livestock advisor.

The Missouri Veterinary Medical Association’s Veterinarian of the Year award is the premiere recognition bestowed by the association. The award winner is determined annually by the MVMA Board members, who represent nearly 1,700 veterinary members of the MVMA in Missouri. The recipient of this highest honor is chosen based on their impeccable reputation as a skilled and knowledgeable veterinarian, their dedication and service to their patients and clients, their service as an integral participant in their community, the engagement and leadership in organized veterinary medicine, their mentorship to our future veterinarians, the admiration and respect held for them among their peers, and the positive impact they have had on the lives they have touched. Dr. Marcy Hammerle and Dr. Mark Lux Honored with 2023 MVMA President’s Awards

Dr. Edward Migneco, MVMA past-president, presented this year’s award to Marcy Hammerle, DVM St. Charles, Mo. and Mark Lux, DVM, St. Louis, Mo.

Marcy Hammerle, DVM, DABVP is a 2003 graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. She is the owner of The Pet Doctor, an AAHA accredited, three doctor small animal practice in O’Fallon, MO. She is a member of the AVMA, MVMA, ABVP, AAHA and attends over 50 hours of medical and management continu- ing education yearly. In 2017, Dr. Hammerle also became certified in canine rehabilitation (CCRP). She has been active in the MVMA since graduation and has been involved in organized veterinary medicine by serving on many different committees and task forces.

Dr. Lux is a 1982 graduate of the University of Missouri-College of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced in the Spanish Lake and the South County areas until opening Mackenzie Pointe Animal Hospital in September of 1991.

He is a past-president of the Greater St. Louis Veterinary Medical Association (GSLVMA), and past delegate to the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA). He is currently chairperson of the MVMA’s Scope of Practice Committee.

The MVMA’s annual President’s Award is given to individuals who were instrumental to the President’s efforts to advance the veterinary profession for the betterment of animal health in the state.
