Nowadays every time you go to the movies, you see a movie in 3-D, and when you go to someones house, I’m pretty sure they have a hi DEF flat screen plasma, LCD, LED TV, on the wall. TVs today give you close up views. Ms. Lisa Lincoln gets her clients HD & 3-D ready. “I have never been to a school for hair & make up, I a.m. self taught. It’s sort of like a God-given talent, its the creative side in me.” In high school, she says she was getting classmates ready for prom. In 1999 she launched her website FIMA. As a hair & makeup artist, Lisa remains independent because she refuses to sign with an agency. She goes on to say, “giving up 25-30%...um I don’t know ‘bout that!” Lisa has an client list that would put her in the mainstream category, but she works with every one. When asked if she does her own makeup Lisa tells me, “I don’t have time to do my own makeup. My days are pretty much 12+ hour days.” She’s someone who defines beauty as a lifestyle... Our featured model for this feature hails from New Orleans, Louisiana. Beauty is not the only thing we seek out, we also seek out individuals directions and drive. Renée is a graduate of UNC Charlotte where she majored in criminal law. Renée’s modeling credits includes Hood Honeys, Vivacious Models and many more runways & catwalks. “I started modeling in college with an on campus troupe called Estylo. Estylo put together several themed fashion shows at the University.” Renée is available for all types of photography shoots from Dance, Erotic Fashion, Fitness, Lingerie, Parts Modeling, Promotional Modeling, Runway, Spokesperson/Host and Swimwear. “I love how sexy modeling makes me feel, it gives the epitome of feeling like a woman. SOCIAL NETWORKING Everyone networks online. At the end of the day, we all end up @facebook. 5000 friends may not be enough for those who look to make millions. I understand you got the fan page but you will have to go beyond the scope of Facebook friend adds. I researched some familiar and new to you. Of course you want exposure and $$$. So when you think about uploading and updating your profile take these sites into considerations. And by-the-way they can be linked with Facebook. We all know what My______ is all about. The question is, is it viable to your career? With an estimated 43.2 million visitors per month, My____ still is a force to reckon with. Its “new” design and interface will be very familiar. Its functionality compared to the so-called king of social networking Facebook will either frustrate you or give you a reason to update your profile. In my opinion the ease of getting to an artist’s material is still a pro on My_____. My_____ Music also added an improved playlist feature and artist profile. Along with music suggestion features, makes it one of the highest rated and advanced music discovery sites on the Web. The site features charts similar to Billboard charts and it keeps track of the most popular music liked by users of all genres. It also enables users to view popular music on the international stage. So if you are looking for that new market, update that profile you left months ago. Jaiku is a social networking, micro-blogging and lifestreaming like twitter. Jaiku is owned by Google so what you say on Jaiku is searchable on Google. Still sounds like twitter? Well twitter doesn’t allow for Web and RSS feeds. You can see your followers availability, location, and calendar events if they have Jaiku Mobile on their phone. So when you say you’re at a show on Jaiku, Google can get you to the spot. The only con that will keep most people tweeting is its overseas appeal. Marketing for Jaiku has been minimal in the U.S. but to those who have it find it very useful as a tracking device ;).

Indaba Music popped up online quietly to those of us who use Reverbnation as the source of exposure. Indaba Music makes it easy to manage your music and collaborations between you and the artist states away whether it’s with old

group members/calabos or new friends. Whats great about this site you are in the studio with whoever you are doing a track with no matter where they are. You can control all of your productions from your lab. You don’t have to worry ‘bout distributing the royalties Indaba Music takes care of the dollar distribution. $50 gets you in the virtual driver set, and really makes your label legit. Now this is hands down an Independent Artist dream. LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network with over 80 million members and growing rapidly. LinkedIn connects you to your trusted contacts and helps you exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a broader network of professionals. Sometimes your immediate circle can’t resolve a unique business challenge. Whether you’re looking for a career opportunity, winning new clients or building your professional reputation, LinkedIn connects you to shows, and even business partners. If you connect with someone on LinkedIn, your address book will never go out of date. When your contacts update their profiles, the current and new information will show up. Post your latest gig price sheets and projects and everyone will know it then and people new to your address book will be linked in to your history (discography). Your network should go beyond the people you know. It should actually include your standings with the people you work with and your business ethics. It goes that one step further than Facebook. Soundcloud has been around since 2007. This German based company is really for the artist on the go. It has a fully featured recording studio for the iPad based on the KORG iMS-20. As with other music sites you can create, & upload your music. Soundcloud has a free uploader for the Mac and PC you can use interfaces that work on desktop. But the big pro lies within the BandPage app by RootMusic. If you just don’t won’t to leave facebook, then this is the answer. don’t worry about code or HTML, RootMusic takes care of all that. Your fans can hear your music and share it with their friends.

THE

OF THE DJ Night!

It’s not often that I get to interview the entertainers featued in Mprinted, in person. I was invited to see some the best in Indie entertainment at an open mic night in Dallas, Texas by the Texas native DJ Batman. “I’m from Dallas, and have been in the music industry since 2000, said DJ Batman.” Working his way through the different elements of the industry, DJ Batman took all of his industry knowledge and began to get the streets buzzin’ with his style of DJ’ing. “I started out

sense of family between DJ Batman and the guys who provided security and DJed. They prayed together before every event, had weekly meetings, stayed in constant contact with each other and made sure everyone was taken care of. Today, the focus is mainly on DJing... getting local artists out for people to hear them. DJ Batman has worked with a lot of artists in the DFW Metroplex. He hasn’t made it to mainstream or radio and is not sure if he wants to because he wants to stay in touch with his people. “I want to stay in touch with the little people or the ones that people overlook,” says the DJ of the Night.

With the help and training from the co-owners of the academy (DJs Steve Nice & T-Spoon), the hype that surrounded her name was quickly turned into fact. “My mentor and manager T-Spoon trained me and gave me the confidence that I needed to make DJing a reality.” The more time I spent on our SKYPE interview and watching her Facebook status, I became more

aware that DJ Lina Hart is truly what the industry needs. When asked how she gives back to the indie artists she says, “I’m all about giving an artist a chance, so if they give me their music I’ll take it home, and if I like it, I’ll add it to my playlist.” Talk to anyone who has had the privilege to hear DJ Lina Hart spin and they’ll tell you her style is limitless. “I’ll rock a country party if I have to!!!” INTERVIEWED BY:

Da Kushmane facebook.com/Da.Kushmane

Starting his music journey back in the summer of 2002 when he recorded his first track Kushmane realized the start of an addiction. From the start, the artist, with only raw talent and a developed personal style, knew music would become his passion. As a couple of years went by, he remembers being in the dorm room at school with 20 guys free styling and his roommate at the time told him he was killing these dudes. Before knowing what had happened, da Kushmane took out 20 guys and gained a buzz throughout the school. At the same time, school and music didn’t mix. He left school to pursue his music at a fulltime level. In 2005, Kushmane formed this group called “Double Up”. The group both worked and didn’t, as the realization came that being a solo artist was more appealing. In 2007, a move back to Columbus, Georgia to record the first solo album titled “MR C.TOWN” I released it underground it did pretty good in the streets had a single on that album called Simon says that was blazing the radio waves. It was short lived cause the local scene in Columbus died down and I had 31

to take my show to the next level. In late 2007, a move to Atlanta GA, gave Kushmane a chance to make a name for himself in the underground rap scene.“I shot my first video right off Godby road for my single ’SMOOTH’, that has numerous hits on You Tube, and also I had mix tapes like “Going Pro” floating around.” In the summer of 2010, Da Kushmane teamed up with long time brother Junya AKA “Mr. Make it Happen” and started FRATHOUSE E.N.T and collected a track list over 20 mix tape ready tracks and hit the road doing shows all around Georgia. Future projects will be released such as “Big City Swagg vol. 1”, Da Kushmane presents PIPELINE MUZIK, Junya for Dollaz Da Cam paign, also other artists under FRATHOUSE E.N.T will have Mix tapes dropping such as the first lady Tasha D, and D.ROC. “For years to come we will be a team that is making noise from now and beyond. MIKE J

PRESENT facebook.com/MikeJ2Real4You

I’M JUST TRYIN’ TO DO SOMETHIN’ DIFFERENT... Mike J is not the average Hip Hop artist. Born in Lake Charles, LA., Mike J possesses a flamboyant swagger and improbable wordplay! “I grew up around what seemed like the perfect family environment. When I turned 11, my parents got divorced and that pain led me to express myself.” I talk to many artists that support their career by doing the “_____” things to get their music jumping. Well Mike J has gotten himself a rap scholarship. Sounds crazy, but this college student is taking his school refund checks to do videos (http://bit.ly/mikejwasthere), get postcards and get studio time. He is really making good use of his time

and $$$. Mike J got candid about his career and his legal issues. “I’m tryin’ to do somethin’ different,” Mike J states as he clicks on the video share on his SKYPE profile. “I’m working real hard at my dream. I do as many features as I can, but at the end of it all, I’m circulating the Mike J brand.” The views of his debut video rose at a record high for no push but just fan support. “I put it (I Was There) on Youtube and it went to 1000 views in 24 hours,” Mike J speaks on the success of his work. He tells an incredible story and his words flow perfectly. He was

He has been a part of the rap game for 8 years it’s his time to be noticed! BE A BIG PART IN HIS SUCCESS and participate in his becoming a star to the world, not for fame, but for people to understand him and that “I’m ultimately trying to help the world through my lyrics.”

represents his raw style to the fullest. He is the CEO of ‘Paper Only Gang,’ which is his label home. Label mates, ‘Carolina R.E.D.’ and the group ‘3-2-1’, are working with Diamonds on the upcoming street DVD, (title to be determined). “I am looking for artists, that have the same drive and work ethic as I do.” With the frame of mind that keeps him humbled, Chase Diamonds states some hard cold facts bout the industry. “Some of these independent artists go Hollywood... and depend on the feedback. I want to have a personal relationship with as many of my fans as I can.” Social networking is his tool that he uses to construct his career. His new project is hush-hush for now but, the themes are steadily in the works. “I Have 8 songs done for my EP, but each single has a theme behind it. It’s dolla season! GET READY” I am sure the releases are going to be well worth the wait. Stay on the lookout for this MC and the

Between videos, studio, and showa FA$E gave me the timeline of his current project. Fa$e is working on the single ‘I ain’t changed’ and on the b-side is the track ‘Mr. Get It In’ (feat. K-Dolla pgs. 2829 ). Pushing these two singles this year will be his main task. “I’ve given myself my own a single deal. I’m making sure that no one misses any of my material.” FA$E recognizes the difference between CEO and artist through his efforts. This artist is paving the way for the artists that surround him. FA$E books his own shows and arranges collaborations with artists from around the country. “I look for artists,” FA$E begins describing the ideal artist he likes to colaborate with,

His channel has upwards of 50 videos and 65,000 total view’s. “I do all of the work on getting my projects completed and to the streets, but now I’m focusing in on my strategies to get the material into the proper hands and the proper channels.” Taking a step back from the mic, FA$E realizes the importance of focusing in on individual key markets while promoting his music. FA$E’s entrepreneurial side has him expanding into the world of his own signature water “FA$E WATER”. “I suggest that many artists should get involved with their community to get their name out in any way they can to keep options open.” Never coming to the game with a closed mind, FA$E has plenty of avenues to go down.

HEAR THE DRUMMER GET WICKED... I’ve been fortunate enough to hear the sounds of Sheila E, Cindy Blackmen who played for many years with Lenny Kravitz, and Tara and Cora Coleman who drummed for Prince in the “Purple Rain” years. Now we can add another name to the list of great female percussionist...Chanel Bracy-Taylor. Chanel was born in California moved to Texas in 1991. Currently in her third year at North Central Texas College, she is working towards an Associates degree of Arts. a During her time away from the books she has brought many sounds to many independent local artists, plays for Westside Baptist Church, drummer for NCTC Jazz Band, and a model with Model Productions Agency. She has also shared the stage with some of the industry’s best-known singers and rappers. “I consider myself a percussionist, I play instruments from the xylophone to a full drum set.” If you check Chanel’s Facebook page her status will list a numorous amount of live performances that are all solo gigs. When Chanel hits many of her solo events she tells me she is always asked, “Who do you play with?” From karaoke nights at local clubs to videos by local celebrities such as, JT “Guaranteed to Wreck” “Dumb Dummy”, Young T’s “Outta My Mind”, and Mike U feat. Wreck-A-Mics “Im Cool”, you are sure to get an experience and a performance thats worth Tweeting about. Chanel’s live performances includes a drum solo with World Famous DJ TDK at an after party for Usher. Not far from being called phenomenal, Chanel is her own manager, she gets her own gigs. She is guaranteed to rock her crowd in any venues. At the time of this interview Chanel is getting her sticks ready ready for the America’s Got Talent TV show. We at Mprintmedia are hoping to see her move on to more great opportunities and exposure with the potential of receiving national TV exposure. If you ever find yourself in the Dallas Ft. Worth area check out the talented and beautiful Chanel Bracy-Taylor Chanels Facebook profile to see where she is laying the beats down. Be prepared to nod your head when the picks up her sticks. In early 2003, Will began to write raps. Because he didn’t have a producer, he began tinkering with Frooty Loops computer program to make his own beats. In no time, he had mastered it. After a couple of months, he put the microphone down altogether to concentrate on producing instead of rapping. Knowing that he had the talent to capture the attention of millions, Kill Will scoured the city of Cincinnati in search of anybody who would listen to his music. From banging his beats at local open mics to entering into producer battles to even giving away free beats to other emerging artists, he used every avenue available in the city to gain exposure. He made so much noise that he captured the attention that in late 2009, he linked up with Big Von of Make It Happen Management. In just over a year of building a buzz in the music industry, things really started to pick up when producing the soundtrack for Dallas rapper B-Hamp’s single “Fooly.” And his career really began to take off with Birdman’s “Fire Flame” hitting Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and as well as claiming the number one video on BET’s 106&Park. “When I first saw the video on 106, I couldn’t believe that I actually took part in something so amazing,” Will admits. “It’s kind of surreal. It’s an overwhelming feeling.” As overwhelming as it may be, this is only the beginning for the 25-year-old hit factory. Kill Will is here to stay.
