I wanted something bold that made an impact, to deiced to use Helvetica Neue Bold. I then experimented with the tracking and felt the text worked a lot better with this very small. I wasn’t happy with how the bottom of the U stood with the X, so changed the path of it so it ran diagonally parallel.
George wanted something really fresh and vibrant, so I experimented with a variety of bold colours. I then tried out some gradients which I thought worked really well and made the palette a bit more personal.
I felt the white text on a coloured background worked much better than the coloured text on white, so experimented by placing it within a shape. The circle seemed to work much better than the rectangle.
George said he much preferred the blue gradient, so we decided to develop this. I really liked how it was looking at the moment but it definately needed something else. It seemed very structured, and in my point of view didn’t really represent his music fully. Although the music he makes appeals to a larger audience and can almost be seen as contemporary pop music, the idea of it being house music made me want to break out of such an inviting, happy aesthetic and bring in elements of noise.
Completely improvised, I incorporated shapes over the circle to make it seem like pieces were breaking away, and experimented with the transparency. We both really liked how it looked.
I finally decided to really subtly incorporate a texture just to bring the image to life a bit more. This is the final logo design.
George really liked what I had done, and whilst I was with him asked if I could quickly create some album artwork using the same template, to use on his soundcloud page. We selected certain gradient palettes to represent each song and used the same text layout for each. I decided to use Helvetica Neue Ultra Light for the track name to distinguish this from the artist name.
We finalised the artwork by overlaying it upon desired photographs George had purchased. This really brought the designs to life.
The work in use.
