Group Editorial How have workers continued to struggle for better conditions in the 1920s and have they succeeded?

American workers are struggling. Wages are down, jobs are dangerous, and hours worked continue to grow. America’s workers are tired of being neglected. It’s time for a change and unions are the ones to save the American worker. New production techniques requires workers to complete the same tasks over and over again. With the creation of the assembly line, employers are able to produce more goods than ever before. Employers are making more money and employees are seeing the benefits. Because of the assembly line things are made way cheaper for average Americans to afford. Who doesn’t love cheaper products, right?

While products may be cheaper, there is still a price to pay for producing these goods. American workers are the ones who are paying the price. There are no safety precautions. The Republican presidents have passed Laissez Faire policies which are only helping the employers and is doing nothing to protect the safety of the workers. Workers lives are in danger because of the Laissez Faire policies of the Republican presidents. The work area is very unsanitary and diseased. And because of the laissez faire no one is there to clean it or keep it fine and dandy. Because of that, people are getting sick, if they get sick they can’t work, because of that, the employers fire them because of there unsanitary work areas!

Because of all of this the workers began striking! So far over 400,000 workers have went on strike that's about 20% of workers. The things that workers are striking for are things such as health benefits and sanitary work areas. So far they have been forming unions to help them in their strike.

We first saw this assembly line was back in 1913 when Henry Ford surprised us by inventing the “Assembly line” which made cars more affordable for common folk. We have thought that the assembly line is great for us! It will help us achieve flying cars by 2000! The liability is not even high at all and is quite low, so there is no risk at all. This invention might lead to more products being produced.

There is many positives to this new “Assembly line” such as less and less homeless people sitting on your doorstep and the unemployment has went down a lot! Another is that people have started to leave the city and get new homes.

When Coolidge took office, the nation was still at peace, and Americans had made it clear that they wanted to remain withdrawn as much as possible from international affairs. Industrialists especially didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t like the idea of collective bargaining, which they felt took all the power from owners and put it in the hand of the unions.

In 1920, big businesses were tired of attacks from progressive reformers and felt that the unions had gone far enough. So far, over 400,000 coal miners and 300,000 steel workers have went on strike. In conclusion, the republican presidents are bad for workers. They did not support them and many workers were frustrated with many of their views and actions.Coolidge enacted policies that favored big businesses, not workers.

What Should Workers Be Fighting For In The 1920s? By:Erasmo Zuazua Jr Many workers These people are fighting for better working conditions. These conditions were very bad and non-safe many people were injured and there was bacteria. Workers had very bad and very dirty. Other workers wanted better wages. Wages are really important because they give people money for working and help pay off bills and help you buy things you need.

Equal pay was also important because some workers were paid more than others. Because of low pay workers could not buy things they wanted to. Making them go into poverty.

Are Unions Good Or Bad For America? By: Nathan Kaiser

Unions are just being born in America but they are causing a lot of problems because they are striking. Remember in 1902 when coal miners went on strike from May 12 to October 23 that they effectively shut down are nation. That was because there was no coal being mined. Which meant that there was no coal for trains, factories and heating. But on the other hand workers are starting to get better pay and better working conditions as some factories and mines have started to budge.

But the downside is there's still hundreds of factories and mines that have not budged and are either under maned or have no workers at all. These companies have got to act soon or they might die out. My personal thoughts are unions are good for workers and not good for companies. But in the future they will be good for both.
