TABLE GUIDE

Gonet-Médeville

Winemaker Xavier Gonet hails from a storied family of Champagne growers in Le Mesnil, and his wife Julie Médeville’s family is famed for its legendary Château Gilette in Sauternes. Together this wine power couple craft a number of stunning bottlings from Champagne, Bordeaux and Sauternes.

Based in the Marne Valley village of Bisseuil, Champagne Gonet-Médeville crafts exquisite grower Champagnes which see no malolactic fermentation and minimal dosage. Julie and Xavier own 12 hectares across 6 villages (3 Grand Cru and 3 Premier Cru) surrounding Epernay. Champagne Gonet-Médeville’s vineyards are farmed organically, and each parcel is vinified separately to emphasize its individual terroir.

Julie and Xavier Gonet-Médeville purchased the three-hectare Château des Eyrins estate from Eric Grangerou in 2008. Two hectares of Eyrins are bordered by the vines of Château Margaux, where the Grangerou family were cellar masters for three generations.

Château Gilette’s exceptional Crème de Tête is fermented naturally and aged anaerobically in concrete vats for 20 years before release, with no racking, no topping up, no extra sulphur and no lees stirring. Production is limited to 4000-5000 bottles each vintage.

Champagne Deutz

Founded in 1838 by William Deutz, this historic Champagne house is based in the Grand Cru village of Aÿ – prime Pinot Noir territory situated at the base of the chalky Montagne de Reims. Deutz’s estate vineyards are all certified biodynamic, and grower partners farm either sustainably or organically. 75% of the vineyards used to produce Champagne Deutz are Premier Cru or Grand Cru.

Winemaking is very traditional, with vinification in stainless steel vats to emphasize purity and freshness. All Deutz wines are fermented and aged in the Deutz cellars and sold in the signature William Deutz bottle – a unique seal of authenticity!

Alphonse Mellot

The Mellot family has been growing wine in the village of Sancerre since 1513, and Alphonse Mellot represents the 19th generation to oversee his family’s historic domaine. Mellot owns 53 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, certified biodynamic since 1990. All of the wines are fermented in a combination of large oak vats and oak casks of various shapes and sizes. His single vineyard cuvées represent some of the Sancerre appellation’s most sought-after bottlings, recognized for their power, concentration and elegance.

Pierre Jean Villa

In 2009, Pierre-Jean created his domaine in the heart of the northern Rhône and began his new life as a wine grower. Today, he has 10ha in production in Seyssuel, Côte-Rôtie (Brune), Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. According to Pierre-Jean, a great wine is ultimately born from the respect of the land and its fruit. This is both evidence and a work ethic for him. In the vineyards, the only logic is to preserve the life of the soil to produce terroir wines. In the cellar, he treats the grapes with non-interventionist wine making: indigenous yeast and respect for the lunar calendar when racking and bottling. In the end, the wine must express this delicate balance between the typicity of the terroir and the wine maker’s ethics.

Domaine Brusset

In 1947 André Brusset founded the vineyard, set among olive and apricot groves, becoming one of the first in the southern Rhône to estate-bottle his wines. In 1986 his son Daniel bought the abandoned but now famous south-facing Gigondas terrace-vineyards on the Dentelles de Montmirail. Today, Laurent, the third generation of the Brusset family, meticulously crafts wines with charm, depth, and complexity. All grape varieties are handharvested separately, de-stemmed, fermented on their natural yeasts, slowly and softly, with maturation on the lees.

Château Clarisse

The 9 hectare vineyard is situated entirely on the Puisseguin limestone plateau. Its southwestfacing slope has a thin topsoil of clay-gravel with excellent natural drainage. Planted 85% to Merlot and 15% to Cabernet Franc, this combination gives the wine roundness, fruitiness, and an opulence typical of Right Bank Bordeaux. The wines have been certified organic since 2019, with conversion to biodynamics in progress.

Domaine Chavet/Château Pipeau

Domaine Chavet covers 23 hectares on Kimmeridgian clay-limestone. La Côte is a broad blend of vineyard sites. Antoine de la Farge, who comes from a family of winegrowers in Menetou-Salon (next door to Sancerre) dating back to 1560, worked with his parents at their highly acclaimed Domaine de la Farge before acquiring Domaine Chavet in 2019.

Château Pipeau is a 4th generation estate founded in 1929 in St. Emilion on Bordeaux’s right bank where the world’s greatest Merlot based wines are made. Winemaker Jean Mestreguilhem, son of the current owners, worked at Château de Fieuzal in Pessac-Leognan and Screaming Eagle in Napa Valley before returning to his home estate. There are 25 hectares on clay-limestone and deep sand planted to Merlot (90%), Cabernet Sauvignon (5%), and Cabernet Franc (5%) with an average vine age of 40 years.

Jon-David Headrick Selections

Founded in 2005, Jon-David Headrick Selections was named “Best New Specialist Importer” by Wine & Spirits magazine as well as a “Wine Importer You Can Trust” by Slate magazine. Headrick’s work has been featured in French media outlets such as Radio France, La Nouvelle Republique, and TV Tours as well as American publications such as the Washington Post, Food & Wine magazine, and many others. In 2010, the government of France announced that Jon-David Headrick would be appointed a Chevalier dans l’Ordre du Merite Agricole, one of the highest civilian awards given by the government of France. The rank of chevalier (knight) is a lifetime appointment and is given to acknowledge outstanding service to French agriculture.

Eric Solomon founded European Cellars in 1990. Eschewing conventional wisdom, Eric built his portfolio around unheralded regions and small producers rather than market categories. Through his efforts, once obscure regions have representation on wine lists and retail shelves. Before there was a market for it, Eric was talking about the Côtes du Luberon, Ventoux, Pic St Loup, Côte Roannaise, Gaillac and the Roussillon. Pasqua

The story of Pasqua Vigneti e Cantine began in 1925, when the first generation of the Pasqua brothers arrived in Verona with the aim of founding a company dedicated to the sale of wines from their homeland, Puglia. Manincor

Situated in the midst of the hills surrounding the Lake of Caldaro in the far north of Italy, the Manincor estate was founded in 1606 by the colorfully named Hieronymus Manincor zu Ehrenhausen. The ancestors of today’s owner, Count Michael Goëss-Enzenberg, became related to Manincor zu Ehrenhausen in 1662 through marriage, so there is a direct lineage of some 350 years. Count Michael has owned and run Manincor since 1977, in which time it has become the largest estate winery in the Süd Tirol. A brand new winery opened in 2004, built substantially beneath the vineyards, so as not to disturb the landscape of the area. A multitude of small vineyard parcels is farmed, at 220 - 500 meters above sea level, with a wide variety of soils. Winemaking is as natural as possible, and the slope of the cellar site is utilized to move grapes and must by gravity though the winemaking process.

Pojer e Sandri

No one has demonstrated “sprezzatura” – the art of effortless mastery – quite like Mario Pojer & Fiorentino Sandri, especially when it comes to wine and distillates. Both their vineyards and orchards make wines, grappas, and fruit brandies with a clear identity and sense of place….and all under the same roof – unique in Italy. They are always challenging themselves – on the lookout for new ideas to improve quality, including washing grape bunches before pressing in a nitrogen-saturated environment (natural yeasts selected before harvest).

The partnership between Pojer and Sandri dates back to 1975 and the the duo’s wine labels all feature works from the great 15th C. German artist, Dürer, who passed through Faedo on his way to Venice.

Tenuta J. Hofstätter

Now in its fourth generation, the company is run by Martin Foradori Hofstätter: the son of Paolo Foradori (known as the father of Alto Adige Pinot Noir), he took the lead after three generations and over a century of experience in the care of delicate grapes, such as Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer, as well as other varieties including Lagrein, Pinot Blanc and Schiava.

Martin Foradori Hofstätter had the task of helping the company step into a new era, launching new business initiatives in the Mosel area – with the acquisition of the longstanding Dr. Fischer – and in Trentino, with the Maso Michei project.

Lungarotti

Lungarotti and Torgiano, the area that made Umbria famous for its wine, is a long love story that spans many generations. Founded in the early 1960s by Giorgio Lungarotti, pioneer of modern Italian oenology. Giorgio was a powerful voice for the quality and standard of the wines of the region. Today, Lugarotti continues its path focused on sustainably producing world class wines from indigenous grapes. It does so through the commitment and passion of Giorgio and Maria’s greatest legacy: their daughters Chiara and Teresa, and grandchildren, Francesco and Gemma.

Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama is located about 12 miles northeast of Siena in the hills of Gaiole. This is the heart of Chianti Classico, a bucolic rolling landscape of woods, vineyards and olive groves. The modern era of Castello di Ama began about 35 years ago with the replanting of the estate vineyard. Of the 260 hectares comprising the estate nearly 90 hectares are planted to vines and 40 to olives. This site itself is spectacular – a rounded hilltop set 1600 feet above sea level. It has perfect southern exposure and the clay-calcareous soils that are considered ideal for Sangiovese, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir.

Aurelio Settimo

Nestled in the hills of La Morra the Settimo family has been growing wine since the 1940s and began exclusively producing estate wines with the 1974 vintage. Aurelio Settimo’s family maintains a traditional product line for the region, growing mostly Nebbiolo and producing top class Barolo. Since Aurelio’s death (March 2007), production and sales have been handled by his daughter Tiziana, who had long been assisting him in running the business. The philosophy remains the same: focus on quality, in keeping with tradition.

Villa Poggio Salvi/Palazzo Maffei

Villa Poggio Salvi counts 21 hectares of vineyards in Montalcino, all planted with clones of Sangiovese Grosso. The optimum altitude, between 300 and 500 meters, the soil rich of clay and the breeze coming from the Tyrrhenian Sea, maintain the soil and the climate perfect for vineyards. Villa Poggio Salvi is a company that looks to the future with passion and competence, under the wise direction of Pierluigi Tagliabue and his grandson Winemaker Luca Belingardi.

Palazzo Maffei: For four generations, the Cottini family has been cultivating a tradition that dates far back in time. Diego Cottini, together with his wife Annalberta, continues the work started by his father and grandfather, who founded the company in 1925.

Le Ragose

Le Ragose, a now famous estate, is located North of Verona, in the town of Negrar (Veneto region), at the highest point of Valpolicella Classica (1,148 feet). The winery is composed of 32 hectares, 18 planted as vineyards. The altitude is from 250 to 400 meters high. Le Ragose was purchased in 1969 by an oenologist named Arnaldo Galli, and his wife Marta. Due to the high elevation, Marta recognized the need for a separate designation for the hills to distinguish them from the flat land of the valley. Marta fought for and obtained the designation Classico. She was one of the founders of the organization “Women in Wine” and helped found and start VinItaly.

Villa Sparina

Located in Monterotondo, the heart of Gavi, Villa Sparina was founded by Mario Moccagatta. After taking over in 1997, Mario’s children Stefano, Massimo and Tiziana, have managed to put Gavi back on the map by dramatically reducing yields, introducing French barrique, renovating the cellars and hiring oenologist Beppe Caviola. Their Monterotondo

cru was the first Gavi di Gavi to ever win the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso, and the first to break 90 points from Wine Spectator. Since then, Villa Sparina has not been resting on its laurels. For the Moccagatta family, Gavi is a way of life and a source of inspiration. They have created both a fascinating winery and an enchanting resort that reflect their passion for this territory.

Borgogno

With the cellar founded in 1761, Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is among the oldest names associated with wine in the Langhe region. Though Cesare Borgogno changed the name of the estate in 1967 to Giacomo Borgogno e Figli, he continued to vinify wines from the family’s land holdings following their centuries-old traditions.The Borgogno family cared for the estate for 247 years until 2008 when they sold it to the Farinetti family, who promised to preserve and continue their legacy. Anselmi

Anselmi is the flagship family-owned winery in the Veneto in northeastern Italy. Viña Santa Carolina

Mayer Am Pfarrplatz

This traditional estate on the Pfarrplatz in Vienna’s 19th District has been in operation since 1683, vinifying wines that were instrumental in establishing Vienna’s reputation as the city whose very name stands for wine.

In 1817, composer Ludwig van Beethoven moved into the first floor flat on the Pfarrplatz and began to compose his legendary Ninth Symphony. In contrast with the German import Beethoven, Mayer’s vineyards are planted to traditional indigenous Austrian grape varieties, Grüner Veltliner and Riesling among them. Their top vineyards are nestled in prime sites on the mineral-laden hills surrounding the capital city.

Te Awanga Estate

Te Awanga Estate is a family owned wine estate situated in the Hawke’s Bay region on New Zealand’s North Island. After nine years as winemaker at Vidal Estate, where he was awarded New Zealand Winemaker of the year, Rod McDonald left in 2006 to seek out great vineyard sites and establish his own brand (initially Rod McDonald Wines, now Te Awanga). His enduring purpose is to grow, harvest and craft world class wines and smile while doing it. Currently, more than 70% of the Te Awanga grapes are certified organic, with conversion to fully organic farming in process.

Snowden Vineyards

The Snowden family has farmed its east-side Napa Valley mountain vineyards since the mid1950’s. While brothers Randy and Scott have been the primary stewards of their parents’ legacy, it is now entrusted to the care of their own offspring and extended family, whose commitment to their land and legacy remain steadfast. Winemaker Diana Snowden-Seysses also manages the cellar at Domaine Dujac, her husband Jeremy’s family estate in Burgundy. Today, Snowden produces the vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon “Brothers Vineyard”, the Cabernet Sauvignon “The Ranch”, which is an approachable and affordable blend of Bordeaux varietals, and, depending on the vintage and their interests, small lots of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.

Venge Vineyards

Three generations of purveying, farming, and producing fine wine. Nearly a half-century of family-owned winegrowing in the Napa Valley. Recognition began with legendary winemaker, Nils Venge, who passed the dynasty on to son, Kirk Venge, profiled by Food & Wine magazine as “One of 26 Winemakers—the Scions of Great Wine Dynasties from Around The World—to Watch.”

Kapcsándy Family Winery

The Kapcsándy family (pronounced “Cup-chon-dy”) purchased the State Lane Vineyard in 2000 and re-planted the entire parcel in 2001/2002 with recommendations from their 1st winemaker, Helen Turley and her husband, John Wetlaufer. The vineyard is planted to 15 separate blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, averaging 2,640 vines/acre. A new state-of-the-art wine-making facility was completed in September, 2005. The vineyard is farmed by Ilsley vineyard management. Beginning with the 2005 vintage, the lead winemaker is Denis Malbec, originally of Chateau Latour, Bordeaux. Sustainable farming is practiced, pests are controlled by birds of prey that inhabit an environment created by a wild-life expert in the field.

Rudd Estate

The last in a series of five volcanic landslides created a small sliver of land in Napa Valley and gifted it with the rare combination of attributes necessary to grow high quality Bordeaux grape varietals. Measuring only one mile wide and one and one half miles long, this strip of land winds across the valley floor in the Oakville appellation, through the 55 acre Rudd Oakville Estate Vineyard, and continues north only one-half additional mile. Leslie Rudd was fortunate to become steward of a portion of this land in 1996. His reverence for ensuring that the land achieves its full potential is shared by every Rudd employee and underlies every action we take in the fields as well in the cellar. His vision for the winery was founded upon a passion for the land and a clear intent to build a multi-generational winery with a legacy of excellence.

Hudson Napa Valley

While only 200 acres of our 2,000 are under vines (we prefer to leave the rest up to the wild), we sell the majority of our fruit every harvest to some of Napa’s finest wineries. It is said that Hudson Ranch’s unique character, and rigorously sustainable practices, produce some of the best fruit available in the Napa Valley. What we hold back, to make into wine under the Hudson name, is some of the most lovingly-tended and exceptional fruit we grow. Foxen

Bill Wathen and Dick Doré, also known as the “Foxen Boys,” have been making wine together since 1985, when they founded Foxen on the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in northern Santa Barbara County. Their first vintage was made in the old blacksmith shop on the ranch. Since that time, their mission has remained the same: to create small production, sustainably-farmed, vineyard-focused wines using a minimalist approach to winemaking.

Foxen is named in memory of William Benjamin Foxen, an English sea captain and cofounder Dick Doré’s great-great-grandfather, who came to Santa Barbara in the early 1800s. In 1837, this Santa Barbara County pioneer purchased Rancho Tinaquaic, a Mexican land grant that originally totaled nearly 9,000 acres and comprised most of what is now known as Foxen Canyon. Captain Foxen adopted the distinctive “anchor” as his ranch cattle brand, and the winery has since adopted it as our trademarked brand.

Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard

In December 1987, the Fess Parker family purchased a piece of ranch property in Santa Barbara County’s Foxen Canyon, already the home of several outstanding wineries. Under Eli Parker’s leadership the winery has received lavish praise and awards from wine critics and competitions alike. The past several years Eli has overseen the rapid expansion of the winery’s vineyard holdings, Farming over 600 acres of vineyards on four different sites in Santa Barbara County.

Obsidian Wine Co.

Obsidian Wine Co. was established by brothers Arpad and Peter Molnar and winemaker

Michael Terrien after the trio discovered an abandoned walnut orchard on the volcanic slopes of the high Mayacamas Mountains of Lake County, CA. They suspected the location, half a mile above sea level, would be an ideal site to grow mountain fruit. In 1999, they planted the vineyards in red volcanic soils shot with black obsidian, overlooking a dormant volcano. The first 98 cases of Obsidian Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon were vinified in 2002, and today the Red Hills of Lake County are proving to be the next great frontier in Cabernet Sauvignon.

Aveleda

Since 1870, Aveleda has been managed and cared for by the same family and has kept the same family surname since that date: Guedes. The history of the Guedes family has always involved the Quinta da Aveleda estate, which has become a part of the family identity. Wolves Whiskey

Wolves is American whiskey made in California from a highly creative group of founders, also based in California. Wolves is distilled in Sonoma County by 13th generation Master Distiller Marko Karakasevic using an old, slow brandy still that was imported from Cognac in 1983.

Karakasevic creates a small batch (10 barrels) of distillate over a 10-day period, sleeping in four hour shifts so that he alone can make each cut, selecting “the heart of hearts” for double distillation in the small still. The distillation process is far less efficient than an industry-standard column still, but the end result is whiskey with more body, flavor, and viscosity.
