2016 Winter Guide Message from MSYSA Executive Director, Tom Faro… Dear Members: Welcome to the 2016 Michigan Soccer Winter Guide Edition! In this edition, you will find information relating to tournaments, events and more! COPA 2016 is almost here! Watch Messi, Neymar, James, Chicharito, Bradley and other world stars at the once-­‐in-­‐a-­‐lifetime Copa America Centenario from June 3-­‐26. The World’s Best are Coming to the U.S.! Purchase tickets now at www.ca2016.com! MSYSA recently posted and disseminated information on upcoming programming changes as a result of USSF mandates. We feel the information will assist our teams, clubs and leagues in moving towards implementation, as mandated by US Soccer, as efficiently and effectively as possible. Read more… This summer, the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association will host US Youth Soccer’s Region II TOPSoccer Symposium June 10-­‐12, 2016 in Canton, Michigan. All sessions (field and classroom) will be hosted at the High Velocity Sports Complex in Canton, Michigan. This TOPSoccer Symposium is FREE for all participants! Registration is available through the MSYSA website now! Also, the Great Lakes Coed Soccer League will host the Kohl's Cup events in Michigan by starting this event on June 3-­‐5, 2016 in Muskegon, Michigan! This year, MSYSA is awarding Troy Youth Soccer League, Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer, Royal Oak Youth Soccer Association, Garden City Soccer Club, Milan Youth Soccer Club and Alma PAL Stikers Soccer Club recreational grants on March 11, 2016. Additionally, MSYSA will be awarding college scholarships to five players that have participated within the MSYSA community. In closing, MSYSA thanks each of you for playing important roles in the growth and development of our sport. Your contributions now and in the future are greatly appreciated. 2016 Winter Guide Registration Is Now Open for the 2015/16 MSYSA Olympic Development Program (ODP) 101 Beginner Academy Spring Training & Summer Camp Programs! Plymouth, Michigan -­‐ Registration for the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association Olympic Development Program (ODP) 101 Beginner Academy is now open. The MSYSA ODP 101 Beginner Academy is for both male and female players within the birth year range of 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. This program is designed to provide additional training opportunities to competitive/travel players seeking new challenges and to help identify the level of youth soccer players within Michigan. NOTE: The top 2004 age group players identified in the 101 program will be invited directly into the Advanced Academy winter training pool for the 2016 / 2017 season. www.GardenCitySoccer.com It is the mission of this club to organize, conduct and supervise a soccer program for the youth in and near Garden City, Michigan as well as to promote and advance the cause of good sportsmanship through the game of soccer. Special emphasis shall be placed on player development, teaching the fundamentals of soccer and fostering a love for and enjoyment of the sport.

The Garden City Soccer Club features recreation and competitive level soccer opportunities for ages 4 through 19, this includes the Select and Premier levels. The GCSC also includes USSF National & State certified F, E and D licensed coaches. Our Kick Start & Little Kickers clinics offer ages 3 to 5 year olds an introduction to soccer in a relaxed and fun environment at a very affordable price. The Garden City Soccer Club has also maintained registration costs that are well below neighboring communities. 2016 Winter Guide 2015 MSYSA ODP Adalin Farnum College Scholarship Recipients Jason Ren l Male Recipient Jason is from Canton, Michigan, and most currently played with the Michigan Wolves 98 team in the US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League. He has previously been named to the MSYSA ODP State Team and US Youth Soccer Region II ODP Pool. Jason currently is the National Merit Scholarship semifinalist and serves as the President of the National Honor Society (NHS) at Canton High School. Jason not only finds himself helping others both on and off the field but he finds that in doing so helps himself become a better person. Jason has volunteered as a referee at the Special Olympics in 2014-­‐15 and plays piano at a senior assistant living facilities a few times over the course of a year. Through his acts of kindness, Jason feels that in giving people opportunities for doing other acts of kindness as well as encouraging others, he has provided himself a fulfilling and rewarding experience in his endeavors. Maddie Fouts l Female Recipient Maddie is from Richland, Michigan, and most currently played with the TKO Crew Juniors in the Midwest Regional League Premier 1 Division. Additionally, in the summer of 2015, Maddie was named to the Michigan ODP '98 State Team. During her time in high school, Maddie actively participates in her National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Spanish Club. Within her community, Maddie assists with coaching children at local sports camps and tutors sixth graders. Maddie believes that something as small as giving someone a compliment or providing a service to someone that the act will add a sense of fulfillment to her day. Through soccer, she passes acts of kindness along by helping out her teammates, coaches, opponents, and referees in any way needed.

2016 Winter Guide MSYSA Celebrates 40th Anniversary! The Michigan State Youth Soccer Association will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2016, marking a strong commitment to fostering the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of Michigan’s youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition. “The Association is stronger now than ever and it is due to a strong membership that’s entrusted our leadership,” said Tom Faro, MSYSA Executive Director. “I am pleased to be part of such a historic Association that continues to look forward and grow the game in Michigan!” For 40 years, MSYSA programs, events, tournaments and services continue to grow and add excitement at every level of the game. 2016 Winter Guide 2016 US Youth Soccer Region II TOPSoccer Symposium!

The Michigan State Youth Soccer Association is pleased to announce that the US Youth Soccer Region II TOPSoccer Symposium will be hosted in Michigan and is scheduled for June 10-­‐12, 2016. The host hotel will Hilton Garden Inn located in Detroit, Michigan. All sessions (field and classroom) will be hosted at the High Velocity Sports Complex in Canton, Michigan. This TOPSoccer Symposium is FREE for all participants!
