2019 Winter Guide Dear Members: Welcome to the 2019 Michigan Soccer Winter Guide Edition! In this edition, you will find information regarding tournaments, programs, events & more! As you may know, MSYSA and the Saginaw Township Soccer Association will host the 2019 US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships as part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, the country’s oldest and most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. The games will take place at the Saginaw Township Soccer Complex and will draw more than 4,100 players and an estimated 12,000 spectators over the course of the weeklong tournament. The tournament will take place on June 21-26, 2019 and will host more than 200 boys and girls teams, ages 13 to 19 from within the Midwest Region. If you are interested in volunteering at the event, please don’t hesitate to contact the MSYSA State Office for more information. This past November, MSYSA hosted an Administrator’s Workshop that was free to all members of MSYSA. Like last year, attendance was very good. Special thanks to our guest speakers and to Dick’s Sporting Goods, SportsForms, Pullen Insurance and Cole, Newton & Duran for their help and participation. For reference, the 2019 MSYSA Administrator’s Workshop will be held in Livonia, Michigan on Saturday, November 9, 2019. In addition, MSYSA member organizations that register recreational players are eligible to apply for MSYSA recreational grants. The next grant cycle closes on or before October 4, 2019. Read more here… Finally, member organizations of MSYSA are eligible to request coaching education in-services each year by the MSYSA Director of Coaching Education. If your organization would like to request an in-service, please don’t don’t hesitate to contact DOC@michiganyouthsoccer.org. Sincerely, Thomas K. Faro, MSYSA Executive Director

2019 Winter Guide RECREATIONAL GRANTS Recreational Grant Any league or club currently affiliated with the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association may apply for a grant. The following are ideas for grant topics, but are, by no means, the only ideas that may be successful; outreach to schools to increase membership, setting up a play day or tournament, long-range-planning process, player/coach handbook, financial software, startup newsletter costs, training equipment, coaching education, web page development, computer, software, etc. Recreational Tournament Grant Recreational Grants totaling $15,000 will be made for the purpose of enhancing existing recreational soccer tournaments within the State of Michigan. Any recreational tournament currently sanctioned by the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association may apply for a grant. Due to the limited nature of the grant monies available, the grants are designed to be small and no grant amount over $3,000 will be awarded. It is anticipated that most grants will be in the $500 range and can consist of certificates, cash or in-kind services. 2019 MSYSA Recreational Grant & Tournament Application (Word Document l PDF)
