A MEMO FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR THOMAS FARO
Dear Members:
MSYSA had (2) National Champions last summer! Congratulations to the Nationals Union 17G team and to the Michigan Rangers 19G team! MSYSA also had a National President’s Cup Champion with the Detroit City FC South Oakland team finishing on top.
MSYSA acknowledges that the tryout/team commitment process can be a stressful time for players and parents. Our sport remains quite popular and there are many different platforms and pathways to consider. Making decisions on what club/league to participate with can be challenging. Keep in mind that some league platforms require a great deal of investment, travel, and offer varying player pathways.
A few things to consider; what are you and your athlete willing to invest (or not) invest? Where are you hoping matches will be played? (e.g., locally, in Michigan, in the Midwest Region, or across the country) What type of coaches are you seeking? (e.g., volunteer coaches, those with licenses, what level of license, etc.) What does a typical training session look like? Will your athlete secure sufficient playing time? How long have existing players been with a team/club? Is a club loyal to its current participants? What is the club culture and environment like? (e.g. talk to others) Will athletes experience enjoyment and occasional downtime? Does the team/club view player development more important than winning? How many matches, tournaments, or showcases are anticipated per season? Does your athlete have an interest in participating in Director’s Academy, Great Lakes Premier League, MSPSP, Junior State Cup, State Cup, President’s Cup, Olympic Development (ODP), or in one of MSYSA MANY affiliated leagues, etc.?
Please know that MSYSA affiliated try-outs may not take place prior to Saturday, June 7, 2025. We encourage you to use this time to do your research on coaches, clubs, and teams. As a reminder, and pursuant to MSYSA rules, once you make a commitment to a team/club on or after June 7, you are committed to that team/club for a full seasonal year.
Should you have any questions, please contact the MSYSA State Office.
Sincerely,
Thomas K. Faro Executive Director stateoffice@michiganyouthsoccer.org

20 Years Strong
Still Independent. Still Competitive. Still the Michigan Burn.
In a soccer landscape where clubs seem to come and go, merge and rebrand, the Michigan Burn Soccer Club is still here. For 20 years we’ve remained true to who we are: an independent club built on passion, player development and a commitment to offer more opportunities to our players, while giving them access to high level competition and exposure. We haven’t lost sight of what matters. We are — and always will be — the Michigan Burn.
As we celebrate 20 years of success, stability, and pride, we thank every player, coach, and family who’s chosen to be part of something real and lasting.
We’re independent, competitive, and proud. And after 20 years, we’re just getting started. Celebrate with us at michiganburnsoccer.com
