THEY SAY

WHY FAIRS TICKLE MY FANCY… The BUDMA Poznań International Fair is not only one of the largest fairs in Poland but also a pivotal business affair. Being the largest producer of steel roofing and façade materials forces you to take care of your image. Attending the fair in Poznań is a necessary step in helping to guard and nurture that image. It is not a coincidence we are speaking about the image here, as over the last decade the role of exhibitions has developed in that particular direction. It is not so much about gaining new clients anymore as it is about demonstrating your position in the market and meeting lifelong clients; it is practically the only opportunity each year when our clients come to us and not the other way around. Year in and year out, we do our best to make our stand a hallmark of our company. For that reason it is constructed solely out of our products and we consider it the best way to show them off. For years our ideas have gained the recognition of the fair judges who, on several occasions, have awarded us the Acanthus Aureus for the best stand in terms of company marketing strategy. The awards given during the BUDMA Fair are another prestigious part of participating in the event. For years the MTP Gold Medals have been well-renowned and respected. They are some of the most highly sought after awards in the industry. We take pride in each of the six Gold Medals we have earned and you can be sure that each has its special place in our trophy display. Every year we enjoy welcoming back multitudes of our loyal clients proving the invaluable importance of our presence in Poznań.

All Eyes on Poznań The National Assembly at the Poznań International Fair In order to commemorate the 1050th anniversary of the christening of Poland and the beginnings of the Polish state, a solemn National Assembly was held at the Poznań International Fair on 15 April 2016. During this exceptional meeting of the Sejm and the Senat, the first in history to be held outside Warsaw, the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, delivered a speech. The meeting was presided over by Marshals of the Sejm and the Senat: Marek Kuchciński and Stanisław Karczewski. Apart from the Head of State and members of parliament, the National Assembly was attended by the Council of Ministers, led by Prime Minister, Beata Szydło, members of the Polish Episcopate led by Stanisław Gądecki, the Archbishop of Poznań, as well as

representatives of other European parliaments and diplomatic corps. Following the ceremony the participants listened to the Poznań Philharmonic perform the premiere Oratorio 996.pl, composed exclusively for this occasion. Similarly, a plate commemorating the National Assembly was unveiled with a ceremony also participated in by the President and Marshals, among others.

The organizers hosted about 1,200 people at the MTP during the jubilee ceremony. These included heads of European parliaments, representatives of national episcopates, the Papal legate and representatives of Polish authorities

“We have a great duty to protect the foundations of our tradition and our culture. We have a duty to build a strong country, a great community on the basis of what we grew up with and how we were raised, on the basis of our tradition for mutual respect, honesty, reliability, and even heroism to protect the country should there ever be a need,” proclaimed President Andrzej Duda in Poznań during the 1050th anniversary of the christening of Poland During the National Assembly, the text of a resolution which had been earlier adopted by the Sejm and the Senat was read. The resolution conveyed gratitude to the creators of the state and all generations of Polish citizens who have faithfully followed the precepts guiding Polish identity

Tools of a modern marketer On 15 and 16 November the Earth Hall in Poznań will host managers, marketing and advertising specialists from various sectors of the industry, as well as representatives of advertising agencies, media houses, and advertising studios. In addition, the event will also be attended by graphic specialists, speakers, event organizers and more. They will take part in the Golden Marketing Conference and the Golden Marketing Expo which will be held in the foyer of pavilion 15. Who is a modern marketer? This is a person who wants to continually be developing their knowledge and competencies, a person who has a great impact on the image of a company and its sales efficiency. Therefore, this person is constantly searching for new tools to help the company or brand maintain a respectable level among its competition while continuing to develop. Marketing of the 21st century offers a wide range of such tools. These include traditional items such as T-shirts, sweets, pens, but also ones which use technology, for example, digital and 3D print and video360. Some other things which are becoming more important for marketers include various applications, CMS systems and IT

software for data analysis, all of which are used to boost e-commerce. At the Golden Marketing Expo we will witness a combination of tools used by a modern marketer who additionally will impart on us their prized personal knowledge. For more information on the event, please visit www.goldenmarketingexpo.pl

The above is the slogan of a nationwide campaign by the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry, whose objective is to encourage Polish people to visit the fair and take advantage of what it has to offer. The fair gives you more time, contacts and money! Despite the development of e-commerce and other internet tools, entrepreneurs still attend fairs which can be seen in the statistics of nearly 1.5 million visitors, 28 thousand exhibitors and over 760 thousand square meters of rented exhibition area in over 200 events. These are the figures on fairs covering several sectors during 2015. Exhibitions and events in Poland are experiencing an Age of Renaissance and their level is comparable to those organized in Germany, the United States and distant China. For two years the Polish exhibition market has been systematically developing, showing upward tendencies. This is by and large the result of a better economic situation, acknowledged by a systematic increase of GDP as well as the fact that Poland is a member of the European Union and has a favorable geopolitical location. Polish entrepreneurs, especially small and medium-sized companies who have for years constituted a large part of the exhibitors at the fairs, are experiencing economic improvement. 84% of these companies believe that attending professional fairs in our country is effective for marketing and communication.

The fairs in Poland play an important role as a venue of international trade, sales and services. The statistical data proves the attractiveness and usefulness of the Polish fairs as a means for business communication and marketing for entrepreneurs including foreign and domestic exhibitors and visitors alike, says Przemysław Trawa, President of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry. According to the PIPT (the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry), the number of people visiting fairs has been on the rise in recent years. In 2015 the figure increased by 15%. In terms of the number of exhibitors present, however, 2015 saw an increase of only 2% compared to 2014. Moreover, there has been a significant change as far as the origin of the exhibitors is concerned. The number of foreign exhibitors taking part in Polish exhibitions has increased by 7%. Fairs in Poland have been evolving with respect to what clients expect and how the global trends are changing. For example, fairs get extended by numerous accompanying events, including professional conferences and seminars participated in by experts operating in various sectors as well as other entertaining events. Apart from that, fairs in Poland invite exhibitors and visitors to attractive, modern, fully-equipped and professionally designed exhibition and conference facilities. Over the last few years many new facilities have either been built or extended or remodeled, adds Mr. Trawa. For more information please visit targidajawiecej.pl

Poland’s largest conference on modern marketing Whoever said you should master marketing to make your business grow at the speed of light was wrong! Don’t waste your time. The best you can do is to stay up to date and ahead of the pack! “Soon”, reads a text message sent by a teenager occupying the second floor of our house after I headed towards the stairs and asked him to come down. That means he can hear me at least. After fifteen minutes I replied, “My ‘soon’ is over. How long is yours?” So far I have no idea how long it is because as a reply, I heard my Facebook messenger beep and I received a screenshot of a game which, apparently, was much more interesting than me. “Well, I must act,” I thought. I crossed my eyes, grinned, clenched my fists showing my readiness to fight to the death, and snapped my fingers. Done. Easy. The life of a snap is very short. This is a situation which, contrary to common belief, pulls generations together. These days reaching someone with your message and getting the desired effect requires creativity in terms of the means of communication and the message altogether. We are living in times when new communication avenues are popping-up almost every moment, but at the same time when end user expectations keep changing as never before and when new groups and generations of consumers are joining in on the game. Wishing to be successful in the field of sales and marketing in five to ten years, you have to come up with an anticipatory marketing strategy based on the New Marketing right now. Even if you are certain your knowledge is based on the latest trends, be aware of the fact that something “newer” will inevitably come along and it will shift the marketing world towards even more innovative concepts. Marketers never sleep and if they ever do, they are very vigilant. There are many brands which do not perceive the changes and keep treating them as whims of today. Many brands do not take seriously these situations which require a new approach. These days, Generation X is creating products for Generation Z and vice versa. New trends, technological development, the need for “real time” communication and reaching consumers where they are in a given moment are a must in the world of consumers aware of their value. You’ve got to keep up! What is the scientific basis and what do we already know? Every single day we learn more about how the human brain functions. You will find out about what tools to use and which are not worth your time or money during this year’s largest conference devoted to the New Marketing in Poznań. The 2nd annual Golden Marketing Conference will take place on 15 and 16 November at the Poznań International Fair. The New Marketing, based on innovativeness,

personalization and neuroscience presented by Poland’s top marketing stars, will be a two-day event packed full of practical knowledge and experience from around the globe including presentations on how to reach your goals, what leads to failure and instantly usable tools for implementation all amidst inspiring examples. The first day will focus on psychological marketing basics, the latest developments in the field of neuropsychology and its practical application to marketing. You will gain a better understanding of consumers brought up in the digital era who are fully aware of their value. The second day will be filled with practical lectures on today’s plethora of marketing options (e.g. videos, mobile technology, social media, marketing automation and monitoring of advertising campaigns and Google analysis) as well as trainings which will give you opportunities to gain further practical knowledge while interacting with the lecturers. Given the success of last year’s conference and recommendations by representatives of brands such as KPMG, Amica, the Polish Energy Group (PGE) and the Poznań University of Economics, the Poznań International Fair was beseeched to host the next edition which would involve no less a degree of standard as its predecessor amidst a magnificent backdrop.

An excellent tri-level food court In early autumn the guests of exhibitions, congresses, conferences and events will have a chance to use a new gastronomical area located in the northern wing of pavilion 15. Its three levels, each constructed in a different style, will house a bistro restaurant, catering zone and gastronomic area as well as two VIP clubs - the Air and Flame Rooms. Thanks to this, a joint event will now be able to be held on all three levels simultaneously. - The modernization of the northern wing of pavilion 15 is a necessary addition to the whole Congress Center infrastructure and the Earth Hall which has become a concert hall. The investment boosts the attractiveness of the exhibition infrastructure and the scope of the services offered not only for the exhibitors and visitors to our events but all guests and inhabitants of Poznań. Live music and cooking will be two perpetual elements which will definitely make an impression on people’s experience, says Przemysław Trawa, President of the Poznań International Fair Board.

Musical Birthday Bash The MTP launches a CD 1921 is considered to be the start of the Poznań International Fair. It was when the First Poznań Fair, Poland’s first ever domestic fair event, was held thanks to the merchants of Poznań. In 2016, the Fair will celebrate its 95th anniversary! With the goal of bringing its important and interesting history to the forefront, it’s planning several activities including a doodling competition, fair memories in 95 words, and small intimate concerts to be held in the homes of local Poznanians.

The Poznań International Fair’s anniversary will focus on music in connection with its patronization of this year’s International Henryk Wieniawski Violin and Lute Competitions. Aiming at popularizing the violin and the music it creates the MTP decided to present these to the public in a more modern form. As part of the project “Invite music to your house”, the MTP invites inhabitants of Poznań and its surroundings to hold intimate house-parties with their friends, where music is provided for by the Poznań International Fair and an electrifying 2be Violin Duo. These mini concerts are to include classic and modern hits played according to violin arrangements. The 95th anniversary of the MTP will conclude with GALA 9.5 which will be held on 26 October at the Earth Hall. Poznanianki, a specially-prepared music project, will be the main attraction of the evening. It will be a timeless one-of-a-kind project which will bring generations together. All of this thanks to various pieces associated with Poznań, either owing to the

composer or the author of the lyrics, the performer, or all the above. Poznanianki will be participated in by such soloists as Kasia Klich, Kasia Wilk, Kasia Kościńska, Marta Podulka, Ewa Nawrot, Agnieszka Czyż and musician Daniel Moszczyński. Their cooperation will lead to the creation of a unique CD consisting of 8 well-known modern, jazz and chill-out pieces associated with Poznań which topped music charts in the recent past. The CD made under the musical supervision of Jacek Piskorz will be phenomenal, womanly, complete, full of beauty, emotion and great style. Each track featured on the CD will be performed live during the jubilee GALA 9.5 at the MTP.

What is innovation? What does it mean to be innovative? photo: private archives / Dana Puciłowska

These are intriguing questions which cannot be answered. Dorota Wallusch, a coordinator for innovation at the Poznań International Fair, on a new program for start-up companies For the Poznań International Fair innovation is looking into the future, searching for places which others consider problematic and using the existing potential to implement new ideas. Being innovative means not giving up and going upstream. Research and development, new technologies, international patents, commercialization of inventions, transferring knowledge onto the economiclevel and shaping higher education for business are and will continue to be crucial to the economic development of Poland. Knowledge, ideas, needs and research shaped in the minds of young people have to be supported by experienced and successful enterprises which are willing to share them with the coming generations. Looking ahead and trying to fulfill the needs of start-up companies, the Poznań International Fair will launch the SMART WAY acceleration program for start-ups as the first exhibition center in Europe. Its aim is to introduce start-ups to Poland in order to power up business in Europe and beyond. Considering young companies as the future, the Poznań

Fair wants to become a part of their ecological awareness. The events organized by the MTP are a real business platform and venue where consumers meet suppliers, investors meet customers and sellers meet buyers all at the same time. Here, at an array of events held by the Poznań International Fair, 650 thousand world professionals get together annually. They discuss new solutions, present their products, search for development possibilities at home and abroad and stimulate innovation. It is time to come up with new perspectives for young entrepreneurs and beginning start-ups in order to give them possibilities to commercialize innovation, transfer science and knowledge into the area of business, most of all, however, to give chances to accelerate, which is a natural consequence of using fair events as a direct marketing measure for the promotion of a company. SECTORS SUPPORTED BY THE SMART WAY PROGRAM: Construction, energy/environment protection, computer games, medicine/life science, automotive, industry, agriculture, food, transport/storage/logistics.

The MTP cooperates with Poland’s largest opinion-making network gathering start-up companies. Participation in the SMART WAY Acceleration Program for Start-Ups means access to: -more than 2.5 million direct business contacts classified according to 1,000 indicators (including, e.g., market sector, type of activities, size of the company and work post); - direct marketing tools: a multi-channel electronic promotion system, call center, logistics center, its very ownprinting house offering digital and offset printing services and a direct sale network; - ATL marketing tools: professional press (its own distribution network and database of contacts), digital signage, outdoor; - experienced staff providing economic and financial back-up, experienced marketing and PR teams.

Kołobrzeg: Poland’s (Equestrian) Miami Cavaliada Summer Jumping A four-day equestrian international event took place amidst a wonderful seaside scenery accompanied by the sound of crashing waves. It was Europe’s first horse-jumping and the only dressage and combined driving contests in the world to have taken place on the beach. As far as its scope is concerned the event is comparable only to that held in Miami, Florida. The event was arranged especially to coincide with the 95th anniversary of the Poznań International Fair, the organizer of the Cavaliada cycle. - “It was our dream to create a unique summer event and take advantage of the beauty of nature. We got inspired by the Longines Global Champions Tour held in Miami,” explains Tomasz Kobierski, the VicePresident of the Poznań International Fair. 20 / POZNAŃ fair Magazine

In total 14,000 people including equestrian fans, competitors from four different continents, business representatives, celebrities and tourists visited the event. - “Organizing the event in Kołobrzeg, a city which is visited by thousands of holidaymakers from Poland, is a good way to popularize horse riding in the environments which have had nothing to do with this sport so far.

I am therefore convinced that many guests will find Cavaliada Summer Jumping an inspiration to take up horse riding,” says Dominik Nowacki, the Cavaliada director. Cavaliada is a recognized brand in the equestrian world and the indoor tournaments held in Poznań, Warsaw and Lublin gather together world-leading competitors. However, the horse jumping contest featuring the Power of the Jump competition, where the competitors had to deal with high obstacles including a two-meterhigh wall, was definitely the most exciting one. More than a hundred competitors took part in the event, among them riders from Europe including Belgium, Germany and the Polish national team. The United States and Argentina were also represented. The youngest ones participated in Cavaliada Future riding ponies. On top of that, the organizers arranged for a wide array of shows featuring a presentation of pure-blood Arabian horses from Janów Podlaski and Michałów studs, a music performance by well-known musical actors from Warsaw as well as a horse jumping contest put on by HorseMan Team acrobats. The event also featured an equestrian fair. Coverage of the event was broadcast by NC+.

Innovations in the industry It’s worth it! Year after year Polish production companies pay more attention to innovations in order to become more competitive on both the domestic and foreign markets. With favorable market conditions at these unstable times, Polish entrepreneurs are using more novel technologies and investing in more sophisticated science and technical back-up facilities which give them the possibility to introduce innovative solutions as well as develop and master the goods and services they offer. You’ve got to be here! - These are the words that keep on being repeated by representatives of production automation, metallurgy and metal machining sectors. The Poznań Fair has been attracting future-thinking leaders for years. A very fashionable term at the moment is re-industrialization, meaning the reconstruction of the European industry; European as Poland with its 18% GDP share has nothing to be ashamed of, even though there is still a great deal of room for development. This reconstruction is not only about getting back to the 20th-century industry, but about creating companies for today and the future. In the era of advanced technological development and a wide

range of innovative solutions, countless domestic and international production companies must keep up with the changing industry needs. They must constantly adjust themselves to meet up-to-date trends and expectations of business partners and consumers. The one thing which does not change is the role of the metal and machine sectors. It is hardly possible to imagine industrial development without these two. Moreover, these sectors must naturally precede the development of the industry. To put it in a nutshell, there is no modern industry if the machine sector fails to come up with, produce and supply modern machines. It is hard to be ahead of the times, especially when the economic reality is changing so fast these days.

There is one common goal to the generation and development of intelligent technologies for business: to boost the pace of development and the quality of offered services while reducing operational costs and saving time. Production integrated online is the future of the industry. The organizers of the ITM Poland following the Industry 4.0 idea are well aware of that. Keeping to that spirit, we witnessed the debut of a new event called 3D SOLUTIONS devoted to spatial printing technologies. 3D printing, a spatial scanning and printing technology, has stormed the market finding many applications in various sectors, ranging from industry, architecture, clothing, prosthetics and medicine to dentistry. Dedicated to professionals and enthusiasts, 3D SOLUTIONS provided all participants with access to innovative solutions, the most modern devices and related knowledge on 3D printing technology. Another attraction was the possibility to have a look at the MOTH prototype vehicle which was created by students of the Virtual Design Engineering at the Poznań University of Technology. The vehicle is powered only by the most modern BOSCH electric screwdriver and was designed and printed using 3D technology. The project was recognized by leaders and received the support of such companies as Materialise, Resolv3D and 3R Studio. Polish companies seem to appreciate the meaning of innovation. This year’s edition of the ITM Poland was visited by a record-breaking number of 17,500 professionals including a majority of managerial staff, technology experts, constructors and designers. They claimed the fair events are a perfect opportunity to become inspired regarding new solutions and gaining prospective business partners from around the

world. It must be emphasized that nearly 25% of all the ITM Poland visitors were people who participated in the event for the first time and who are willing to come back for the next edition. According to the latest report of the Central Statistical Office (GUS) regarding “Innovative activities of companies 2012-2014” the total investment into innovation in Poland reached PLN 36.7 billion in 2014, including PLN 24.6 billion spent by industrial companies. As much as PLN 18.5 billion was spent on fixed assets such as machines, devices and technical equipment. There has also been a growing interest in production automation and industrial robots (there are more than 8,500 of them already). Machining centers have risen by 20% in Poland, reaching beyond the mark of 15,500. The data shows two positive aspects: the machine industry has taken its chances and that there are still many opportunities for development. Source: www.strefawystawcy.pl

Export much? Check out the market demands Lutz Dietzold, managing director of the German Design Council, was a special guest on the second day of the Furniture Fair Poland, Home Decor and arenaDESIGN. He came to Poland to share some insight into what German customers are looking for and what is in fashion in the West. Germany is the main market for exporting Polish furniture. According to Lutz Dietzold, customers more and more frequently ask producers and traders whether ecological materials have been used for production and whether the materials come from fast-growing plants. They are increasingly more frequently interested in chemicals used for production and opt for higher-quality products which do not use them. If we are supposed to create moods then the production materials used for furniture and everyday objects are very important; therefore, designers need to do their best so that customers enjoy the feel of the surfaces. As far as designing interiors is concerned, we have been observing a tendency toward darker and warmer materials in order to create a more pleasant atmosphere. Such an atmosphere can be accented and emphasized with pillows. Shapes are increasingly more and more round and the materials have to feel pleasurable. Also, satin is making a comeback. The trend might seem appealing mostly to the elderly, but not only. It is like going back in time to the days of our childhood, says Mr. Dietzold. Technology is boldly entering the kitchen. No wonder as the kitchen is becoming a family life hub, which is proven by an increased viewership of cooking programs. Even men are more willing these days to be in the kitchen and many social gatherings end or take place where the food is prepared. Therefore the kitchen is becoming more important in terms of design. Even traditional elements like faucets and sinks are changing significantly and technological solutions are also playing a more important role. More and more often we are speaking about smart materials. Additionally, there is an increas-

ingly better cooperation between designers and creators of modern technology, added Lutz. And what about work spaces? These are most often designed to be nice. In fact, in our houses we also create a work space in a way to be the most comfortable. Interior designing trends can be taken from the hotel industry. According to Lutz Dietzold, innovations which become popular with time are first tested in hotels. This is what happened to remote-controlled lighting and air-conditioning. We now have these things at home and today

One of the most important questions for the coming seasons is whether materials used for production are ecological or not

we control our media with smart phones more and more often. And what about aesthetics? In hotels we can have a look at all the trends, depending on their form. There are uniform hotels where nothing is a surprise for us as we know what to expect. Conversely, there are hotels in which every room is unique in its own way. And one more thing. According to Lutz Dietzold there should be a closer cooperation not only between furniture designers and creators of new technologies, but also between sanitary equipment designers and producers. An example? These days a heater is more often perceived as a visual masterpiece, with no loss to its efficiency. The same goes for faucets, bathtubs and washbasins which must perfectly match useful yet fashionable, good-looking and cozy interiors. Consumers vote for the best: Gold Medals awarded A formal Gala of the Gold Medal – Consumers’ Choice was held on World Consumer Day 2016. It is the third time consumers have chosen the best products presented at the Poznań International Fair. In total, twenty-six innovative products from various economic sectors were honored.

A commemorative family-style photo concluded the solemn Awards Gala

Over the year, experts who are members of the competition juries at different fairs organized by the MTP bestow this award upon the best products. These products are then entered into the Gold Medal – Consumers’ Choice competition whereby internet users are able to vote for a product. Voting is held online at www.zlotymedal.mtp.pl and at special Champions Zones located throughout the fair pavilions. In 2015 out of 213 laureates of the MTP Gold Medal, consumers chose 26 products which, in their opinion, deserved the title of Gold Medal – Consumers’ Choice. The number of votes cast is the best indicator of how much consumers are involved in the contests. Since 2012, consumers, users and exhibition visitors have cast 250,000 votes altogether! CONTESTS AND AWARDS AT THE FAIR

A history of supporting innovation The MTP Gold Medal is one of the most prestigious and well-recognized awards in the Polish market. It has been a symbol of innovation promoting innovative products for years. At the same time, it is a competition boasting the longest tradition. So, how old is the history of the Gold Medal? The Gold Medal was granted 37 years ago for the first time, however, it dates back much further. The Gold Medal of the Poznań International Fair is a worthy successor to the awards of the interwar period when roughly twenty medals were handed out as distinguishing honors. Half of those were minted during the Polish General Exhibition in 1929. Other medals from the pre-war period were given out during various trade exhibitions held in Poznań. The first medal was designed especially for the First Agricultural-Industrial Exhibition in 1923. Other notable events were the Jubilee Horticultural Exhibition, with medals designed by professor Jan Wysocki, and the First Polish Exhibition of Jewelry, Engraving and Watch Manufacturing thanks to the medal design of Stefan Rufin Koźbielewski. A very rare medal of the Poznań Fair which also deserves mention is the medal glorifying “work and development” dated 1925, likewise designed by professor Jan Wysocki who was one of Poland’s leading medal artists at the time. During the memorable Polish General Exhibition where the greatest achievements of the first decade of independent Poland were demonstrated, Grand and Small Medals were awarded in the traditional colors of gold, silver and bronze. These distinctions were conceived by Poznań’s own, Kazimiera Pajzderska. They have become the model for the MTP Gold Medal of today. The products recognized 28 / POZNAŃ fair Magazine

in 1929 were considered symbols of modernity and achievements of free Poland. The MTP Gold Medal Competition, which is held annually, began in 1979 during the June edition of the Poznań International Fair. It was introduced thanks to a decision by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and the Chairman of the Board of the Polish Federation of Engineering Association (NOT). The trophy was awarded to the best products which had taken part in the contest. The award, designed by sculptor Anna Krzymańska, soon became a valuable distinction for domestic and foreign exhibitors. In a conversation with Poznań Fair Magazine, the sculptor described how the idea for the Gold Medal image was born, “The project I proposed gained the highest recognition in the competition organized by the Poznań International Fair. It was decided that the medal, based on the previous medals from the interwar period, would consist of two parts, an obverse and reverse side,” said Krzymańska. In the second half of the 1980s, the fair organized the MTP Gold Medal competitions at specialized fairs as well. The first such time was during the SALMED International Medical Equipment Trade Fair as well as the POLAGRA International Food Trade Fair. These medals were designed by Aleksandra Oleksiak. The 1990s resulted in other competitions and the new medals were once again created by Anna Krzymańska. The obverse side remained the same for all fairs. It featured the emblem of the Poznań International Fair

The reverse, however, was designed especially for each of the fairs corresponding to the proper themes. “Each medal had its own individual character. The reverse of one of my first projects for the POLAGRA fair featured an apple and read: MEDAILLE D`OR POLLAGRA,” recalled Anna Krzymańska fondly. Up until 2012 the medal had been made from bronze. In 2012 the MTP Gold Medal was transformed. The form of the contest had changed and the medal itself was replaced with a statuette. Additionally, laureates received new 30 / POZNAŃ fair Magazine

promotion tools included in their medalist packages. According to the new guidelines, products entered in the contest get assessed by expert members of competition juries a month prior to the fair. The products recognized by the experts are then assessed by consumers, users and representatives of specific trade sectors. Products they consider the best can be considered in a separate competition known as the Gold Medal – Consumers’ Choice. The brunt of the contest is held online at www.zlotymedal.mtp. pl with additional means voting via interactive touchscreens at pre-arranged Champions Zones throughout the fair premises. The Gold Medal – Consumers’ Choice award is granted a month after the close of the fair upon the conclusion of tallying all votes.

The Poznań International Fair supports Polish brands in foreign markets When it comes to promoting the Polish economy in international markets, the Poznań International Fair is a reliable partner for Polish companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and other sector-specific organizations. Polish military forces promote themselves with the MTP It has been a standing tradition for the Poznań International Fair and the Ministry of Defense (MON) to cooperate in terms of organizing participation at the most important European exhibitions devoted to defense, security, arms and aviation. This year, the MTP won the bid solicited by the Ministry of Defense thus making it possible to continue this fruitful cooperation between both parties. In May and June, the Poznań Fair prepared the exposition for the MON to participate in the IDEB in Bratislava, Hemus in Plodviv, and ILA in Berlin. MON’s promotional stands created by the MTP attracted the attention of visitors who recognized their aesthetics, similarly to the representatives of other official delegations.

The sectors that have received approval to join the programs are: Polish food specialties, IT/ICT, furniture, yachts and recreational crafts, cosmetics, health services, and medical equipment.Being an expert in promoting various industrial sectors, the Poznań International Fair will submit offers for bids to carryout further promotional programs for the Ministry of Development, and as a potential contractor, the MTP will encourage entrepreneurs to become more familiar with information

regarding the BPPs available at www.mr.gov.pl/ strony/aktualnosci/branzowe-programypromocji/ Participation in the promotional programs will allow entrepreneurs to expand into new prospective non-EU markets which very often happen to be distant, costly and neglected by entrepreneurs who have never taken into account the risks and costs involved into their export schemes. At most of these markets the promotional activities for Polish entrepreneurs will be complemented with informative and media activities which will boost the promotional message. All activities taken within the program will be supported by the Polish Economy Brand in order to build brand awareness and strengthen its position in foreign markets.

Good leadership practice

TRANSPARENCY PAYS IN BUSINESS Transparency, regular reports, equal access to information, a clear development strategy and corporate governance are all features that run in the blood of recognized stock-listed companies. Not only because it is their duty, but also because it is just simply profitable. Text: Jerzy Wonka, CEO of InfoCredit Service

Generally, companies which are honest and fair to their investors rate higher when compared to those which prefer not to disclose crucial information. Here, higher refers to their market valuation being relatively better. The stronger their relationship with investors as well as more frequent contact with analysts, investors and the media, the better understanding of the business at hand, and, consequently, the ability to enjoy the benefits of these higher ratings. These benefits reach far beyond, even to affiliates of stock-listed companies who are not listed themselves. Thanks to a policy of transparency, investors know who they are dealing with. If their long-time partner is experiencing a period of turmoil, they will know almost immediately. The same goes for record-breaking gains. Such information is highly necessary while negotiating conditions for new contracts.

As knowledge grows, risk declines Knowledge of the affiliate is the key in Europe and in the most developed economies in the world. The role of business intelligence and data analysis companies in these highly-developed economies is gaining speed. It is in everyone’s interest to be transparent; starting with the authorities and tax administration to the business itself. In countries where risk is high, where the economies are not as highly-developed or whose legal and economic stability is not warranted (e.g. in the East), companies are more willing to hide vital information about themselves resulting in data collection about them proving much more arduous. As a result, it is more difficult for companies from such countries to merit money from the West for further development.

In Europe and the West, it is nearly impossible to win a bid if a company is not transparent. More and more Polish companies are beginning to realize this as well. This particularly concerns small and medium-sized forward-thinking companies which aren’t limiting themselves to the Polish market as far as their development is concerned. Increasingly more often, company owners and managers are turning their gaze globally and realizing the Polish market may turn out to be too small. Therefore, their development has to be transparent if it is to be supported by EU funds or any form of public aid.

Information is Capital InfoCredit was the first business intelligence company in 34 / POZNAŃ fair Magazine

Poland. On many occasions in our 25-year-long history, we have discovered that a transparent policy is just simply beneficial in terms of business. The following is a recent example: a Polish producer and an exporter took part in a bid in Scandinavia. Only companies with a minimum rating of 3 could qualify for the bid. The Polish producer’s rating was only 2 at the time. The reason for this was trifling. The company had failed to submit a financial statement before its deadline. This is something which we consider pure negligence. Once the statement was filed, InfoCredit’s rating of the company jumped to 4 points. Unfortunately for them, the bid was lost. There are many such examples. The trend of Polish companies extending abroad is getting stronger. Poland is no longer merely an export nation. Two years ago Polish companies encountering various

Good leadership practice

trade and investment obstacles in the East headed west. They are no longer only interested in the routes which have been opened up in the European Union. They are looking further, to America, Asia and Africa. What is interesting is the fact that they take over local companies and start creating new ones given the support of the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK). It is no wonder Polish companies are more and more interested in foreign entities.

At InfoCredit, we are observing a constant increase in demand for such information. The number of foreign companies making inquiries about Polish companies has risen by nearly 300% since 2012. The inquiries are mostly from countries that conduct the largest foreign exchanges with Poland. Obviously, these include Germany, France, England, Scandinavia, Italy and Spain. More often than not, though, the inquiries come from business partners who occupy the second and third-tenth rating positions. This proves that Polish business is gaining traction in new markets. Where do the interested parties get their information on the various affiliates? The first and primary sources are, of course, the registry of the KRS (National Court Register), CEIDG (Central Registry and Information about Business Activity), GUS (General Statistical Office) and other public registries. Secondary sources are constituted by the media, press and more and more frequently, the Internet. The third comes from business intelligence companies, rating agencies, economic information bureaus and other analytical companies. Unfortunately, the problem is not all Polish companies are

willing to be so candid with their information. This is often the result of unreasonable fears regarding the competition, which is a mistake. According to data collected by InfoCredit, nearly 50% of the companies in Poland submit their yearly financial statement to the KRS every year. Out of those that submit such a statement, only 70% do it systematically and on time. 20% of such companies submit their statements with a several month delay while the remaining 10% of the statements reach the KRS about half a year late. This makes it more difficult for affiliates to assess the risks involved as far as business contacts are concerned. These statistics will continue to change with time. As Polish company exports increase and the more often they contact the West and try to create their own branches, the more willing they will be to publish information about themselves. More and more managers and owners are realizing this truly is a necessity in today’s age. The model comes from top stock companies and parties of lesser importance. It is very positive that there is practically no issue with communication between new, ambitious and innovative Polish companies which are just starting out in their business ventures. Start-up companies know all too well that, without the necessary support, they will not be capable of carrying out their business aims. This was made clearly visible during this past April’s edition of the Wolves Summit for start-up companies, investors, enterprises and corporate representatives. Small and micro-companies presenting their business ideas were well aware of this fact. Among the visionaries were an increasing number of people who were linguistically capable, who could clearly present their business visions, and who knew the reality of foreign markets. They will soon be the key players for the Polish economy and their companies will continue to grow and excel. They will likewise engage in new enterprises. Existing small and medium-sized companies, on the other hand, will be forced into even greater transparency. It goes unsaid that they will need to turn their sights globally.

Tools Galore

InfoCredit and the MTP promote transparency in business. Together we have devised the Exhibitor’s Zone – Business Leverage which is aimed at boosting business information transparency. We have come up with a set of modern solutions and tools, thanks to which MTP exhibitors can present themselves not only in Poznań but also during fortnight-long fairs and a special annual catalogue of exhibitors. Once logged in, they can search for information about new potential contractors and check their customers’ financial stability to date. Today, by means of the www.strefawystawcy.pl website, exhibitors can get highly credible information on both Polish and foreign companies. We provide data regarding the ownership structure, financial statements, and analytical indicators of such companies. Just a quick analysis of the reports provides information about whether a company is reliable and if its actions are transparent. In April, we increased the scope of information available regarding foreign companies. At the moment, it covers 40 countries and the list is compatible with a ranking of the most popular Polish business destinations. POZNAŃ fair Magazine / 35

DRESS CODE

Formal Collections by Polish Brands Work, an important business meeting and other official situations require formal dress attire. At present, the business dress code is not as strict as it used to be and allows some leeway to vary and diversify your style. However, the line separating what is still acceptable and what already is not is a fine line, indeed. The latest edition of the Polish Fashion project will show you how to present your best self for these formal occasions while emphasizing and smuggling your physical assets which will help to reveal your personal style and unique character. The Polish Fashion campaign was attended by the main proponents who began the initiative: Mr. Poland, a.k.a. Rafał Maślak, and four Polish women who won the nationwide casting: Agnieszka Basińska, Martyna Chmielewska, Alicja Chrząszcz and Katarzyna Fornalkiewicz. The photo session was styled as if

to be in a fashion design studio where a new collection was being created. Sebastian Zieliński took control of the camera as Rafał Orłowicz created the styles. The photo shoot took place in the Balma showroom, a leading producer of quality office furniture in Poland.

A minimalistic white dress and a catchy piece of jewelry worn with dark flats is always a great option for active women who value comfort. It works for both slim and tall women as well as those a little bigger. A loose blouse and below-the-knee flared skirt decorated with subtle flowers speaks universal elegance from the 1950s. High-heels are a must to add some lightness to the all-around silhouette. As for the men, it is best to leave the white shirt and trousers at home and go with a more casual look in which you will feel comfortable at work all day long. Leather shoes matching the shirt are an essential part of completing the outfit.

DRESS CODE

Even in business dress, you can have fun playing with colors. White goes well with blue. A buttonless jacket and three-quarter pants with snakeskin high-heels will do well for women whereas men should lean towards a navy blue look with blue shoes as well. A classic white dress shirt will go well with a colorful pencil skirt and an attention-grabbing print. If you are going for bold, try a patchwork multi-colored jacket, sparkling silk shirt and red pumps with varnished leather heels. Soften the style a bit with navy blue trousers matching the jacket accesories. In this instance, the stylist went with some black eye-catching jewelry.

White can be used in many ways in official outfits; an all-white look consisting of a jacket and dress combined with pastel, gold and silver accents. A simple gray collarless jacket will match perfectly a white minimalistic shirt and elegant white trousers. As for more formal outfits; subtle, romantic, flowery patterns do quite well also. An original piece of jewelry consisting of delicate beads and a chain, for example, can be an interesting addition which will draw the desired attention. Men can do with a little more ease by combining a leather jacket and white polo shirt with denim elements and blue trousers.

About the Polish Fashion project The Polish Fashion Project was started in mid-2014 by Polish producers who, in a joint effort, wanted to prove the potential of the Polish fashion industry to domestic and foreign customers alike. The Poznań International Fair, being the most seasoned in arranging events for the fashion industry in Poland, was commissioned to carry out the organizational and marketing activities. The project’s main goal was to promote different brands under a common Polish Fashion insignia. Companies that apply for the use of the logo have to prove their production is based entirely in Poland and comply with design regulations and requirements. The brands which earn the privilege of using the sign can be found in stores thanks to a special tag displaying the project’s logo. At www.polskamoda. pl, one can find a list of brands and search capability for boutiques and showrooms where these exclusive Polish products are sold. The initiative has been positively received by both the media and show

business. Model Rafał Maślak, Mr. Poland 2014, accepted the honor of becoming the project’s main representative. He has since been accompanied by four female fashion representatives chosen via a national casting: Katarzyna Fornalkiewicz (Międzychód), Agnieszka Basińska (Paczkowo), Alicja Chrząszcz (Poznań) and Martyna Chmielewska (Poznań). Rafał Maślak and his female counterparts will likewise appear strutting their stuff on the catwalk during the Poznań Fashion Fair, the most important event for the industry in Poland. The Polish Fashion project was also created for domestic and foreign clothes and shoe shop owners who, according to the research done by the MTP, are interested in beginning business contacts with Polish producers. It is wonderful that the Polish Fashion ambassadors are to take part in the Poznań Fashion Fair to be held 29-31 August 2016, in addition to contractual meetings in Prague (5 October 2016) and Vilnius (19 October 2016). So far, thirty brands have received the Polish Fashion insignia. POZNAŃ fair Magazine / 37

Get Found Labeling an exhibition area The logo is the second most important element to building a company identity after its name. It is a graphic interpretation of the name and, at the same time, an element which identifies the brand, company, product, or any other form of business or economic activity. The main function of the logo is to distinguish an item or service from the competition. A logo consists of two basic elements: a symbol (graphic design) and a logotype (a text, usually in the form of the company’s name). By means of advertising campaigns, entrepreneurs put a lot of effort and money into designing their logo and, consequently, their products are the most recognizable and most often sold. It is important for a company to be recognizable in an exhibition area which is polluted with so much “information noise”. Dozens of stands (such an amount of companies located around a limited space would not

even be found on the main street of a city center), tight communication routes, hundreds of visitors all moving around in different directions… On top of all that, the noise of conversations, music, and information broadcasted by the organizers. All of that gives a new meaning to the slogan “Stand Out or Die”. Without branding, even the largest and best designed stands would

remain anonymous. Only when they are labeled with logotypes, company colors and graphics are they then attributed to particular well-known companies.

How to find the best place for the logo in an exhibition area?

These rules also apply in the case of exhibition presentations. No matter how much of the audience’s attention we would like to draw, the stand design must comply with the guidelines of the book relating to the logotype promotion, its colors and placement on different types of background. Despite these limitations, however, it is possible to find surprisingly creative solutions in reference to your logo placement and chosen materials.

Only in accordance with the CI Every single logotype should be detailed in the corporate identity handbook which clearly states how it should be used.

As high as the sky: attracting attention from a distance A logo placed up high is, no doubt, the most effective way of labeling a booth in an exhibition pavilion. If our logo can be seen from

Flags with the company logo do well outdoors

nearly anywhere in the pavilion we can be sure our customers will not pass it by. Not so long ago it was almost necessary to have a revolving logo placed above a frieze. However, this method is a relic of the past and the booths of today have definitely stepped up their game. There is quite a variety of hanging elements and multiple options ranging from illuminated cubes, single banners, and banners stretched out on a ramp or even on a wooden or aluminum structure. It must be noted that banners printed on both sides look the best. Not only do they offer a better way of labeling the stand in an exhibition area, but they also complete the stand and provide a means of closing it from the top. A disadvantage of this option is the cost due to fair organizers generally charging extra fees for hanging constructions from the ceiling. Truth be told, however, the most effective constructions are not the cheapest ones. Just like the old saying goes, “You’ve got to spend money to make money.” While planning these hanging elements, it is necessary to take into consideration the technical capacities of the exhibition facility itself.

exhibitors who forsake even the most basic forms of labeling their stands with their logotypes and only decide to use the company name printed in a standard font offered by the organizer. And when they „forget” about the walls and the counter, disaster is certain. In such instances, there is no chance to stand out and be noticed from the dozens of other stands. It is hard to talk about savings in that case. On the contrary, it is rather a waste of money because, apart from the participation costs paid, one must factor in the loss resulting from having had no visitors at the stand.

You are not an island Even if the stand is in the form of an island or a semi-island booth, it is necessary to display the company name, preferably on each side. Not even one wall should remain a nameless surface. Look at it from a financial perspective. If we are investing a large sum of money into participating in a fair, we should make sure every single penny helps add to the value and image of our company.

Label your stand clearly The sides, frieze and counter are the most obvious elements for the placement of the company logo. The most common arrangements are prints on foil, signs cut out of foil, and letters made from extruded polystyrene. In order to add some spice, it is possible substitute the foil or polystyrene with metal, wood or glass. At just a small cost, it is possible to get a captivating effect by illuminating a print on PVC board (counters, pylons, ceiling coffers) or by cutting the logo out of a wooden wall and illuminating the space left. With dark backgrounds the “WOW” effect is a guarantee! A logo placed on the floor is eye-catching but not used often. The most popular technique is use a carpet which has been cut out with the logo or a print placed on special foam which replaces the function of the carpet.

Outdoor Flags, balloons and masts are typical outdoor choices. These do well when we want to mark off our area because the exposition space might be large and the boundaries not clearly visible. High masts will make our stand visible even from a long distance. Prepared by Marzanna Wiśniewska, IDEAEXPO.MTP

He asked and she agreed…. A fair event LOVE story on Global Exhibitions Day 2016 While fair organizers struggle with stereotypes of noble businessmen, event industry representatives face the stereotypical image of party goers. So far, however, it has not been a problem for them to find common ground and continue to do business together, until 8 June… when the Polish exhibition and event sectors decided to make their partnership “legal”. According to the data of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry, fairs are held in Poland every day on average. Additional side-events accompany more than half of them. The exhibition and event sectors have much more in common than most people might imagine. In order to prove it, on 8 June,Global Exhibitions Day, representatives from the largest exhibition companies, associations and MICE industry met in Warsaw to discuss common projects, new tasks and to popularize good practices. As no love story can do without its main characters, the common business stage hosted: Magdalena Kondas, editor-in-chief of MeetingPlanner.pl which has organized and promoted events for years, and Przemysław Trawa, president of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industryand head of the Poznań International Fair. To prove the sectors are very much in touch and aim at becoming more professional at integrating their environments, the couple updated their Facebook statuses.
