LIVE THE LITURGY INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK As we celebrate today's feast, we are reminded that God creates and fashions each one of us with intent and purpose. We are not random accidents. We are special creations and wonderfully made. Each of us brings a unique twist to the one shot at life that we are given. As people of faith and children of God, we are asked to use our specialness to announce God's kingdom. Each of us reveals a unique part of God's face. Each day presents opportunities to communicate our faith to others and to reveal God's mercy. We have the means to point the way to Christ. How can we show Jesus to others today?

PARISH NEWS Capital Improvement Campaign June 18, 2018 Update Whenever we start a capital improvement campaign, we have to take a step back and think about all the little details that are involved in bringing our property up to optimum levels. It isn’t just the obvious: the wood, the doors, the roofing materials, the wiring, etc. It is the manpower, the time, the equipment, the little bits and bobs to hold things together that need to be added into the equation of capital improvement. Yes, and sometimes, the weather and inconvenience may play a role in the whole scheme of things. Right now, we can see the roofers bringing our school roof up to par. There will be more visible changes occurring over the next few weeks. However, the things we don’t actually see through the brick and mortar facades of our buildings are actually the most important aspects of what make up our campus; such as, our electrical and heating elements. Progress is being made and we are grateful for your support. May God Bless You for your generosity.

OLP Ministry/Group Who’s Who Update Request The “hidden” ministries/groups of OLP are many. Do you know what they are? With our new parish priest, Fr. Douglas Robertson, joining us very soon, it’s time to update our records and to identify what the ministries/ groups are, how they work with the parish and the contact person. If you are a leader of a ministry/group at OLP, please contact office@olpmarshfield.com. We would be most happy to talk with you more about the ministry/group you lead and find out if there is anything that you need. We will be making phone calls to those we think we know are still operational and have a leader over the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your cooperation.

Bearing Witness to Christ By Seminarian Arturo Vigueras

Today the church celebrates the feast of the birth of John the Baptist, the one who was the “voice of the one crying out in the wilderness: prepare the way of the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all people will see God’s Salvation” (Luke 3:6 & Isaiah 40:3-5). Saint John the Baptist is one of the last prophets of Israel who prepares God’s Chosen People for the birth of Jesus Christ the Son of the living God who will bring to fulfillment the salvation of all of God’s children. In the first reading, we hear the second of the four “Servants of the Lord” songs of the prophet Isaiah which appropriately applies to the role of John the Baptist; who was truly the Servant who made ready all of God’s people for the preaching of God’s word. John was identified with the people of Israel and his vocation was ultimately not only the restoration of Israel but also the conversion of the world. John was the sharp-edged sword who pointed out the true light to the nations (Jesus), as the one whose salvation would reach to the ends of the earth. Saint Paul, in the second reading from the Acts of the Apostles, also tells us of the vocation of John the Baptist as the one who heralded the coming of Christ by proclaiming a baptism of repentance to all of the people of Israel; and as John was completing his mission, he would say, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet’ (Acts 13:22-26). There is no Gospel that begins the story of Jesus’ public ministry without first telling their audience about the mission of John the Baptist. This was clearly fixed in the early Christian tradition so much that two of the three Gospels began their story with Jesus’ first appearance on earth. The church beautifully summarizes the role of John the Baptist in the advent preface of the Mass by sayings that “John the Baptist was his [Jesus] herald and made him [Jesus] known when at last he [Jesus] came. Ultimately, John the Baptist bears witness to Christ and he still is relevant to us because as in any age, our age has an urgent need for role models like John the Baptist that lead us to a deeper knowledge and encounter with Jesus Christ. For us to bear witness to Christ, we must have our identity centered in Christ which would permeate every aspect of our lives. Bearing witness to Christ means that we must be patient with others, forgive those who hurt us and see Christ in other individuals, especially those individuals that make our lives difficult or get on our nerves. More importantly, all of must bear witness by striving for personal holiness, by living an authentic life with no room for complacency, hypocrisy,or self-indulgence. Bearing witness to Christ is no easy task. A lot of times we may stumble and fall; however, the Lord will ultimately transform our failed efforts into enormous accomplishments all we have to do is to remain faithful, and loyal to the Lord’s love and care.
