Murdering and killing the Lost Found Muslim gets you in i m m e diate hell. Regardless to who kills a Muslim, he must be killed, according to the Holy Qur-an (Chapter 4). This, the Bible teaches also. IT IS T H E M U S L I M S that the Jesus referred to that if you offend one of the least (killing the least one of these) it would have been better that you had been in the depths of the sea with a millstone about your neck (Bible —Matthew 18:6). It is mentioned in the Old Testament that the blood of His saints is precious in His Eyes. H e added that these a c h i e v e m e n t s are "outstanding and valuable contributions to the struggle of all the peoples of the world." CHINESE REVOLUTIONARIES took power only 19 years ago. With colonial and racist domination still fresh in their memories, they have tended so far to support efforts of currently oppressed peoples to free themselves politically and economically. In evidence of this growing alliance among peoples w h o have a c o m m o n foe—a foe w h o has steadily threatened to crush the whole world in his coils of greed —and a c o m m o n goal of real independence, two southern-Africa revolutionary groups recently declared their admiration for the K H A R T O U M — T h e S u d e n e s e Chinese Friendship Association Chinese people's revolution. N A I R O B I , Kenya—Kenya should prepare the w a y for Black people, in America to return to Africa and should urge other Black African countries to follow suit, said M a r k Mwithaga, a m e m b e r of the ruling Kanu party. H E SAID that such a move would benefit all whose ancestors had left Africa as slaves. Having lost their "mother, Africa," Negroes were living in ghettoes with no hope of improving their lot. It was further proposed that Blacks in the U.S. and Caribbean islanders be granted Kenyan citizenship. Although Mwithaga's motion failed, his supporters believe that eventually the more progressive Blade African nations will open its citizenship to descendants of those dispersed from the "mother country" by the nefarious slave trade. " W H E N this occurs," an African leader here said, "It will change the status of Blacks throughout the world and give them an additional base from which to develop. "The Jews have such a thing in Israel. Blacks in the Americas need it more than the Jews," he asserted.

IN 14 Y E A R S of major competition, the K e n y a n s have achieved m a n y notable successes, including six gold medals in Commonwealth G a m e s and an almost clean sweep in the Brazzaville All-African Games. Kenya, with her team of 61, having the advantage of living, competing and training at an altitude equivalent to that of Mexico City, is most likely to produce upsets on the athletic track and in the boxing ring. The team will be captained by 28-year-old Kipchoge Keino, the C o n v i c t 'Lawless' Police world 3,000 meter record holder. Most people in the field agree there will be no "magic pill" that will cure alcoholism. Nor wfll there be a single cause that will explain why some people drink too much. There are m a n y different kinds of alcoholics, Chafetz asserted. He said doctors in the field are too hard on themselves in assessing success. West Pointer Quits Air Force To Wage Bias War T O P E K A , Kan.—Unlike newly promoted Brig. Gen. Frederic E . Davison, 51-year-old army commander of the 199th Light Infantry brigade in the Cholon sector, South Vietnam—who thinks he can improve the Black soldier's position from within the forces— Maj. Lewis Olive, 37-year-old West Point graduate (1955), believes his contribution can best come from without the service. O L I V E H A S submitted his resignation from the Air Force, effective as of next June 30, in order to have a free hand in fighting conditions black soldiers face in the service, and to participate, without r e s t r a i n t , in community development activities. As he sees it, Olive is a "rebel" and "expects no complications. In think they'll be glad to get rid of me." H e charges specifically that the Air Farce has

LONDON—European efforts to keep Nigerians fighting each other has again been shown as France's long-predicted delivery of military aid to secessionist Biafra began recently, according to information r e a c h i n g here from reliable sources in West Africa. W H I L E H E declined to state all the reasons for his decision to resign, he did charge the Air Force with being insensitive to the problems of Black officers and enlisted personnel, and with flagrant bigotry in rating officers by denying him credit for what he accomplished. H e expressed an inability "to say the things I need to say and at the same time wear m y uniform." H e indicated that his decision was based in part on "things that have happened in the last year and not in Topeka."

Although Black soldiers and civilians continue to die as the N i g e r i a n Federal Government slowly crushes the secession attempt of a few profiteering Ibo tribal leaders, the recent actions and r e a c t i o n s of secessionist leader Col. O d u m e g w u Ojukwu and his Western sympathizers have injected elements of farce into the tragic war.

" O N T H A T W E E K E N D that I chose to cross the river," recalled Iniama, "federal troops liberated Calabar up to the river and I soon discovered I was trapped in the rebel area."

OJUKWU Angola and Mozambique, starved by the Portuguese, swarm over the N i g e r i a n war on mercy flights to feed starving civilians. And then, to add the last straw to this strange alliance, Ojukwu, posing as a revolutionary resisting Western colonial domination and "Soviet revisionism," is now asking China for help. To cut through this confusion —most of it created by the ignorance, hypocrisy and greed of t h e Ojukwu-influenced Western news m e d i a — M U H A M M A D S P E A K S obtained an interview with a Nigerian w h o had been in the war zone for m u c h of the last six months. A graduate in geography of Nigeria's University of Ife, E . A . Iniama was t e a c h i n g in the southeastern city of C a l a b a r when the group of Ibo opportunists announced the secession of the former Eastern states. Although Calabar is not situated on Ibo lands, its nearness to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as its other natural resources, led the secessionists to include it in the imaginary state of "Biafra." T H E IBO T R O O P S had been training for a year before fighting broke out in July, 1967. They had been training, in fact, even before the bloody northern antiIbo riots of September, 1966. According to Ojukwu these riots settled his and his fellow conspirators' minds on the need of

At first, he spent three months in Uyo, not daring to get a job or do a n y t h i n g which might bring him to the attention of Ibo troops. Almost all young, non-Ibo m e n were taken away to detention camps, he said. "Soon it was unsafe to stay in Uyo, so I began to m o v e around from city to city, between Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Aba and Port Harcourt." Imiana never stayed in any one place longer than a few weeks. H e kept up this travelling, staying in the houses of various schoolfriends of his, for three more months, until his safety had been secured by some of the now 500,000-strong Nigerian troops last June. During his mobile imprisonment Imiana could see and hear about the effects that Ojukwu's traitorous plot was having on the non-Ibo peoples of the eastern region. T H E S T A R V A T I O N ISSUE, he saw, was a coldblooded fake. Where did the starving refugees of the war come from? Ojukwu and his propagandists claimed that they were fleeing genocidal Nigerian troops. But actually, revealed Iniama, "Ojukwu's forces evacuated minority towns; they loaded the people on trucks and took them to rebel-held areas to m a k e it seem that they were running from Federal troops. N o w these people are starving. If people wonder w h y Ojukwu was never very concerned about solving relief problems, they should know that it was because most of the people pictured as starving are not Ibos." Another reason, besides both falsifying and creating fear of the N i g e r i a n troops, Ojukwu (Continued

Last week, the government published a new ruling banning meetings of more than 10 persons in Black c o m m u n i t i e s throughout the country. Excepted from this ban, for now, are family gatherings, funerals, sports events and religious meetings.

Why

Meredith,

(Pan African Press) N E W Y O R K — As individuals and teams of observers return from surveying the Nigerian Civil W a r , all of them agree upon one thing: that there is no truth to the rebel "Biafrans," charge that they are victims of genocide. D E S P I T E Pope Paul's propaganda it would not be wise to believe any sing 1 e observer's account of the w a r , considering the prejudices and weak^ _ n e s s e s of the individual mind. But w h e n observers independent of one another report the Meredith same thing it is safe to conclude that their accounts are close to accuracy.

powerful Black nation. Several days before Catholic Sens. Eugene McCarthy and Edward Kennedy, in their Senate testimony, joined the large, predominantly Catholic coalition which is inventing and spreading the "genocide" reports on the Nigerian war, a team of four independent observers from Canada, Britain, Sweden and the United Nations had r e t u r n e d from "Biafran" areas captured by the Nigerians and reported that they found no evidence of genocide. One observer, Major-General Henry A l e x a n d e r of Britain, said: "From the "slaver in Europe, it seems w e can fight our wars any w a y w e want, but w e like telling new young countries how to fight theirs." B U T P R O - " B I A F R A N " politicians McCarthy and Kennedy c o m p l e t e l y ignored evidence countering their own view of Nigeria's conflict. And furthermore, the supposedly humane U.S. press has generally ignored a Nigerian government appeal to Ethiopia's Haile Selassie. This appeal to the Organization of African Unity was m a d e on behalf of 10,000 nonIbos held in miserable and inhum a n e conditions in "Biafra." The appeal challenges the O A U or any other group to investigate the tribal affiliations of the socalled Biafrans w h o are pictured as starving. Nigerians are confident that such an investigation will show that non-Ibos from evacuated cities like Bakana are the people threatened by genocide. By calling these starving people "Biafrans" and then denouncing the Nigerian government, rebel leader Ojukwu and his cronies are claiming to be victims of murders they are in the act of committing.

W h e n James Meredith recently returned from a tour of rebel areas now captured by the federal g o v e r n m e n t , he declared: "The picture is almost 100% different than what's been reported in this country. The reporting has been very one-sided." Echoing the findings of M U H A M M A D SPEAKS, M e r e d i t h s a i d American and other Weste r n a i d for " B i a f r a " was " p l a i n l y and simply racism i n disguise of humanitarianism." W A S H I N G T O N — T h e phony nature of George Wallace's spoutings about "law and order" has backfired on him with the recent revelation that A l a m b a m traditionally is one of the most lawless states in the union. T H E L A W and order cry—considered the most hypocritical and fiendish of all devices to stop the drive for freedom and justice by the Black population —is being utilized not only by Wallace but by other white presidential candidates. Richard Nixon and his running mate, Spiro Agnew, are widely known to be almost as two-faced as Wallace. T w o Black officials in Agnew's state cabinet resigned rather than support the white bigot's bid for vice president. And Nixon has been pro-Black when a d d r e s s i n g Blacks and a n t i - B l a c k before white audiences. Hubert Humphrey, because of his endorsement of the Viet N a m war, is c o n s i d e r e d by both whites and Blacks as just another opportunist. Meanwhile, Black leaders here have pointed out that it is whites who are building private arsenals, white police forces being equipped like invading armies and that white armament manufacturers are reaping a whirlwind off the "law and order" cry as whites prepare for an orgy of murder.

B y Dr. Leo R X MeCallum What's the difference between a fixed bridge and a removable partial denture? Which is the Best? The difference in the names between these two gives the first clue to the first question. A removable partial denture by definition can be and should be removed by the patient. This is necessary for cleaning of the teeth supporting the denture and cleaning of the denture itself. There I are advantages and d i s a d v a n t a g e s to each 1 kind. Each has its' own specific indications. Cost X j factors differ considerably, as well. "What Allah, in the Person of Master Fard M u h a m m a d , to W h o m Praises are Due Forever, Has Taught Me."

By Elijah Muhammad Messenger of Allah Eat one meal a day. Shun eating bad foods and drinking alcoholic beverages. Eat the proper food, as the Holy Qur-an teaches us that Allah has designed for us. T H E O R T H O D O X J E W I S H food is good for us as the Holy Qur-an teaches you and m e and the Muslim food is good for them. W e both shun that which is bad and evil to our health. It is hard to geet good food to eat in a poison market. This is w h y you should raise your own food and let the government and its people do as they please about their own food. W e do not argue with any person about what they want to eat if they do not want to eat the right food. You have been warned against eating the hog, touching its flesh and being in places working with it for a living. A true Believer will not do this. You are not fit to be called a Muslim if you work in the market where this poison carcass comes in and out and is handled, or if you wear it, touch it, or even be in the smell of it. Allah will bless you to get better employment if you want to live up His Law. You do not have to eat every food that grows on the earth. Just eat good c o m m o n food that will not m a k e you sick.

Dear Sir: It is m y belief, based on the mood of the Black community, that an article from the Honorable Elijah M u h a m m a d , Messenger of Allah, on "Law and Order" would be very very beneficial to us Black people in America at this particular time. M u h a m m a d Speaks with its usual large headlines on "Law and Order" would—I a m sure—arouse the interest of m a n y Black people to the point of buying the paper and/or going to the nearest Mosque.

(Pan African Press) A C C R A , Ghana — The age-old colonial strangulation of this nation's attempt to train medical practioners and p r o v i d e hospital facilities has left a deadly legacy of illnesses which could be cured as well as innumerable premature deaths. D R . A . M . Dr. Akiwumi said with an estimated population growth rate in Ghana of 2.7 per cent per year, and an average annual output of 30 graduates from the Ghana Medical School starting from mid 1969, it was clear that the doctor-population ratio would improve.

phasize because w e need more leaders in our struggle. The Harlem project is another economic development project. The Cleveland project Is financed by the Ford Foundation which is a part of the power structure. The Baltimore project is financed by the F e d e r a l Government's Labor Department. P e o p l e say you can't get this kind of money from "Charlie" without selling out to him. What is your answer to this? INNIS: There are a lot of Black people who have very little belief or c o n f i d e n c e in Blacks. They are so knee-deep in the white philosophy and the whites' concept of Black people that they, too, consider Black people so inferior to whites that in any dealings between Blacks and whites, they assume Blacks will lose. I disagree with that. T h e r e are m a n y Black m e n around w h o can now, as they have in the past, take the white m a n on his terms and come out on top. W e in C O R E will deal with anybody as long as w e can maintain our integrity and ideology and get our program across. The government takes money from Black people. I have no qualms about taking money from the government. The same thing goes for Ford. Black people have got to wise up. The white m a n has no conflicts about taking money from Blacks. Only soul b r o t h e r s have trouble taking money from whites. I can't subscribe to this type of moronic thinking. What is CORE'S position about the current school crisis in N e w York City and the struggle for community control of schools? INNIS: C O R E has had what I believe to be the clearest position on schools for the longest time. That is, that Black people must control their own educational system which is the most basic of institutions. The Muslims are right because they have established their own N schools. It is too vital an institution to delegate to anybody else. C O R E has been calling for a Harlem school system for over a year and a half now. It was the first national call for community control of schools in the country. It isn't the Mickey Mouse community control or decentralization that people are t a l k i n g about in the current N e w York City crisis. C O R E is talking about the clear separation of EU WiLsdN'S fcLEAHtfn

ley Chislom ( D e m o c r a t ) . What do you think of her political credentials? INNIS: The day of having our mothers, sisters and aunts as leaders is over! N o people in history ever got liberated by having their w o m e n lead them. As Black Nationalists w e know the importance of having m e n in leadership.

(Pan African Press) The deadly medical deprivation perennially suffered throughout their communities has aroused a growing number of young Black doctors to launch a counterattack. A P H I L A D E L P H I A organization is demanding that the six medical schools in the area have a 66 per cent Black scholarship enrollment by September, 1969. The group points out that federal and other funds are available for such a scholarship plan. In N e w York city, community outcries have forced improvements in medical care far further than having a hospital which accepts indigent patients in all five bouroughs. Chicago, on the other hand, has only one hospital for the poor, and is considered as having the most inadequate hospital service of all major U.S. cities. T y p i f y i n g leadership across America, a Black Chicago dentist with a fervent interest in his community has moved to break the chain of unnecessary deaths by establishing a large medical clinic in one of the city's more

H e also devotes m u c h of his time away from his office to fighting and defeating one of the most racist city structures in the country. But to the Black community at large—not only in Englewood or Chicago, but across the nation— Dr. Odom's most significant victory took place on a battlefield from which Black m e n traditionally have been blocked. This is the battlefield of finance—economic control of a community. "Englewood has a population of some 250,000 people, and ap-

proximately 90 per cent of these people are Black," the Chicago dentist said. "It is a residental community, but in the middle of it there is a shopping center that takes in more money every week than any other shopping area in the city except for the downtown Chicago loop." His office suite is in this shopping area. F r o m his windows one can see the progress of a $14-million rehabilitation program in an area where white merchants take in Black people's dollars, then go off to invest these huge sums in fancy homes, in industries and in real estate located in other communities. "THIS B U S Y area has only one privately-owned Black business," Dr. O d o m said as he watched the construction work. "More unjust than this is that this community — where 225,000 Black people live, shop and pay taxes—has only two hospitals to meet the needs of its residents."

gent. Englewood and St. Bernard's Hospitals combined can treat only 10 per cent of the medical cases arising in Englewood, Dr. O d o m stressed. "Even out-patients are included in this 10 per cent figure. These two hospitals have to send about 75 patients away each day for out-patient treatment." "Dr. O d o m said Englewood is a "medical wasteland" and has "only one doctor for every 10,000 p e o p l e . In white communities like this, there is one doctor for every 700 people." In short, whites have better health care in Chicago by a pro-

portion 14 times greater than that of Englewood's Black people. W h e n Dr. O d o m started to do something to ease the medical deprivation suffered by his community, he encountered stiff opposition from the city's racist political structure and from individual whites. H e had noticed that almost directly beneath his offices, the Department of Urban Renewal was putting a good-sized piece of land up for sale—property he felt would be ideal for a muchneeded m e d i c a l clinic. tag about? INNIS: The verbal a t t a c k s a g a i n s t all Black leaders in sight. The involvement and parading around with c e r t a i n frauds—let's call the shots straight — frauds — people w h o have no relevance in the c o m m u nity, "leaders" w h o have no following. Instead, Powell should be sitting down with people here w h o are trying to accomplish things worthwhile and who represent forces. H o w can w e coordinate support for Powell if he refuses to even talk with us? To tell you like it is, m y support of Powell was not around "Powell, the man'! taut for "Powell, as a symbol." W e can't ever tolerate white people telling Black people w h o m to select to r e p r e s e n t ourselves (Blacks). Powell has got to relate to his Black constituents. There were m a n y o c c a s i o n s when Powell could have come back to Harlem at strategic moments. Instead, he was unavailable. His freewheeling, "I'm all on m y own" type of operation has got to go. You have credited the Honorable Elijah M u h a m m a d with i n f l u e n c i n g m u c h of your thinking. Can you be more specific? INNIS: The Messenger represents a long line of Black Nationalists and helped to keep the philosophy of Black Nationalism alive, in tact, and out front for m a n y younger people, like us, to pick up and carry on. I have learned a lot in terms of ideology from the Messenger, and a lot a b o u t organizational technique from the Muslim organization. Another of the Muslims' innovations w e intend to copy in C O R E is a disciplined army similar to the Fruit of Islam. It is necessary and important for our kind of organization to maintain the total integrity of the organization. It also does a lot for the membership and structure of the organization. C O R E is very disturbed by the growth of noxious, belligerent forces and individuals in the Black community. They parade under the guise of nationalism but are really anti-Black in the projection of their hostility. They are, in fact, old-fashioned, un-reconstructed integrationists with a new uniform of Black Power. They aren't Black Nationalists otherwise they wouldn't display the kind of overt hostility toward Black people that they do. W o u l d you n a m e these groups and individuals? INNIS: I won't n a m e a particular group. I will say that m a n y of these new Black groups on the scene with white hand-ups and associations fit into this category. In time they will become very obvious and be identified. C O R E has prepared itself and at this time feels ready, willing and able to meet such forces head-on and offer some semblance of protection to the Black community against them. Until other serious organizations, besides C O R E and the Muslims, have protective arms developed and available, a clear danger exists for Black people— from the outside white c o m m u nity and from the inside, from

traitors to the Black community and psychopaths. These new groups, parading under the guise of para-military development, should take a lesson from the Muslims who are people with tight organization who have respect for Black people and don't go around trying to guerrilla other Blacks. M a n y Black p o l i t i c i a n s point to a new day for Blacks in public office—witness the election of Black mayors in Cleveland, Ohio and Gary, Indiana and a U.S. Senator in Massachusetts. What do you say? INNIS: They are really in a dream world. The election of these Black people proves nothing. If w e analyze the nature of power in this country clearly, w e find that mayors are only symbols of power. Stokes doesn't Service headquarters, Anti-war groups across control the power in Cleveland. w h o wanted to purchase the land had to submit bids in sealed env e l o p e s . The highest bidder would get first rights to buy the land. T H E P R O P E R T Y is located next to the Chicago City Bank & Trust Company. Dr. O d o m said he later learned that the bank president, W . Norbert Engles, is a friend and former classmate of President Lyndon Johnson. Mayor Richard Daley, Chicago's belligerent foe of Black people and war protestors, is also a friend of Engles, Dr. O d o m said. These friendships would not have been important if land deals and other economic transactions were strictly controlled by legal authorities. But a wise Black m a n in America does not put his faith in U.S. legal authorities. I n s t e a d , he works for Black unity so as to oppose, if he has to, officials w h o do not do their jobs. With nine other Black doctors, Dr. O d o m formed a medical clinic with plans for 10 suites, a laboratory and a pharmacy. The group submitted its bid and Engles and other hopeful bidders submitted theirs. D U R I N G the period between the bidding and the opening of the envelopes, Dr. O d o m said that he and other communityminded Black people of Englewood b e g a n to hear from sources close to Engles that he might try to use his political influence to m a k e sure he won the bidding whether or not he had submitted the highest offer. " W e decided that the people, the c o m m o n people, of Englewood had better get themselves together and project their combined will to the Department of Urban Renewal before the bids were read," said Dr. O d o m . " W e figured that if the facts

were m a d e public so anyone could check on them—the medical facts, I mean—that the politicians would know the Black people of Englewood really meant business." Engles reportedly was enraged at the stiff opposition meeting him. Apparently he thought this was an uppity thing for Englewood's oppressed Afro-Americans to do. W h e n the envelopes were finally opened Engles had reason to be even more upset. For Dr. O d o m and his group had outbid him by exactly one dollar! The Urban Renewal department awarded them the land and Englewood's newest medical center should start going up this November, the young dentist reported. B y next July or August (1969) he said he and his colleagues should be ready to practice in the new center. H E D O E S N ' T delude himself that this victory will solve the Black c o m m u n i t y ' s need for more doctors and more dentists. But it will help medically and it will help in another w a y , he believes. "Over the years," he said, "the Black professional m a n , the upper-middle class ideal 'Negro,' was a fence straddler at best and an Uncle T o m at worst. At one time he was as bad as the white m a n . "But now this same group is beginning to get involved with the Black community and to reaiize that injustices suffered by Black people are suffered by all Black people in one w a y or another." With this new intelligence, this deeper awareness of reality, Dr. O d o m feels that Black doctors will organize on behalf of their communities and that they will step up their efforts to increase the number of Black doctors across the nation. W h e n the National Dental As-

sociation and National Medical Association (organizations of Black doctors) begin tapping this new "Black energy," Dr. O d o m feels that the Black community will begin to produce the n u m bers of doctors it needs. O N E T H I N G IS F O R S U R E : the past white-dominated production of Black doctors will never increase its rate enough to supply Afro-Americans w i t h the medical aid they need. There has been time to do that. But it wasn't used. China's M i g h t

H O N G KONG—China has just completed two months of progressively increased stress on economic activity which has resulted in an "all-around leap forward" in industrial production, according to a dispatch from Hsinhua, the c o u n t r y ' s press agency. H S I N H U A S A Y S that a survey showed workers throughout the country have "pushed production to new levels of quantity, quality and variety." Even the outputs of all oilfields have been "rising steadily" in the first eight months of this year.

TWO-TIME BOXING CHAMP of nation's colleges, Dr. Odom fought hard to improve medical services of Chicago's Black community. There are at least I Vi million Black Chicagoans, but only 125 Black dentists and 250 Black medical doctors. Although Farmer said this was a "foot in the door," he should be reminded that this foot can't survive if the body is frozen outside. The needed remedy for the Black people at the lower rung of the economic level is to meet their demands for relief from economic isolation, and to spread ownership among them through community - owned - and - operated enterprises. In addition, he advocated sharing power through involving community members on boards, councils, civic agencies and political institutions, so they might achieve a voice in their own destiny.

Hannibal— Elephants

C A M P E A G L E , South Viet Nam—Although U.S. mythology depicts Americans as animal-lovers (it is villainous, for example, for a Hollywood cowboy or soldier to shoot his enemy's horse, or dog, etc.), the true American spirit was recently exposed in Viet N a m . A T T H E A N N U A L meeting of a group with the misleading n a m e , Society for the Study of Reproduction, white scientists revealed that they are investigating two new experimental compounds which m a k e male rats infertile for long periods. According to a report by a r e s e a r c h e r from the Upjohn Company's fertility research unit in Kalamazoo, Mich., scientists do not know how the chemical compounds work. But the fact that the chemicals render sperm incapable of fertilizing the female's egg has led scientists to hail them as possible "Utopian drugs," which can solve the socalled overpopulation problem. The drugs were given to male rats, guniea pigs and monkeys by mouth and by injection. The treated animals appeared normal California. M U H A M M A D SPEAKS

O C T O B E R 18, 1968

The Messenger of Allah Presents

fjat tfje i t e l t m * This is the question asked m o s t frequently by both the whites and the blacks. T h e a n swers to this question I shall state as simply as possible. 1. W e w a n t f r e e d o m . W e w a n t a full and complete f r e e d o m . 2. W e w a n t justice. Equal justice under the law. W e w a n t justice applied equally to all, regardless of creed or class or color. 3. W e w a n t equality of opportunity. W e w a n t equal m e m b e r s h i p in society with the best in civilized society. 4. W e w a n t our people in A m e r i c a w h o s e parents or grandparents w e r e descendants from slaves, to be allowed to establish a separate state or territory of their own—either on this continent or elsewhere. W e believe that our former slave masters are obligated to provide such land and that the area m u s t be fertile and minerally rich. W e believe that our former slave masters are obligated to m a i n tain and supply our needs in this separate territory for the next 20 to 25 years—until w e are able to produce a n d supply our o w n needs. Since w e cannot get along with t h e m in peace a n d equality.- after giving t h e m 400 years of our sweat and blood and receiving in return s o m e of the worst treatment h u m a n beings h a v e ever experienced, w e believe our contributions to this land and the suffering forced upon us by white A m e r i c a , justifies our d e m a n d for complete separation in a state or territory of our o w n . 5. W e w a n t freedom for all Believers of Islam n o w held in federal prisons. W e w a n t freedom for fill black m e n and w o m e n n o w under death sentence in innumerable prisons in the North as well as the South. W e w a n t every black m a n and w o m a n to h a v e the freedom to accept or reject being separated from the slave master's children and establish a land of their o w n . W e k n o w that the above plan for the solution of the black and white conflict is the best and only a n s w e r to the problem between two people.

Slant

6 W e w a n t an i m m e d i a t e end to the po lice brutality and m o b attacks against the socalled N e g r o throughout the United States. W e believe that the Federal g o v e r n m e n t should intercede to see that black m e n and w o m e n tried in white courts receive justice in accordance with the laws of the land—or allow us to build a n e w nation for ourselves, dedicated to justice, freedom and liberty. 7. A s long as w e are not allowed to es tablish a state or territory of our o w n , w e d e m a n d not only equal justice under the laws of the United States, but .equal e m p l o y m e n t opportunities—NOW! W e do not believe that after 400 years of free or nearly free labor, sweat and blood, which has helped A m e r i c a b e c o m e rich and powerful, that so m a n y thousands of black people should h a v e to subsist on relief, charity or live in poor houses. 8. W e w a n t the g o v e r n m e n t of the United States to e x e m p t our people from A L L taxation as long as w e are deprived of equal justice under the laws of the land. 9. W e w a n t equal education—but separate schools up to 16 for boys and 18 for girls on the condition that the girls be sent to w o m en's colleges and universities. W e w a n t all black children educated, taught and trained by their o w n teachers. U n d e r such schooling system w e believe w e will m a k e a better nation of people. T h e United States g o v e r n m e n t should provide, free, all necessary text books and equipment, schools and college buildings. T h e M u s l i m teachers shall be left free to teach and train their people in the w a y of righteousness, decency and self respect. 10. W e believe that intermarriage or race mixing should be prohibited. W e w a n t the religion of Islam taught without hinderance or suppression. T h e s e are s o m e of the things th,at w e , the M u s l i m s , w a n t for our people in North America.

W f j a t tfje J f l u s l t m s P e l i e b e 1. W E B E L I E V E in the O n e G o d W h o s e proper N a m e is Allah. 2. W E B E L I E V E in the Holy Qur-an and in the Scriptures of all the Prophets of G o d . 3. W E B E L I E V E in the truth of the Bible, but w e believe that it has been t a m p e r e d with and m u s t be reinterpreted so that m a n k i n d will not be snared by the falsehoods that h a v e been a d d e d to it. 4. W E B E L I E V E in Allah's Prophets and the Scriptures they brought to the people. 5. W E B E L I E V E in the resurrection of the dead—not in physical resurrection—but in mental resurrection. W e believe that the socalled Negroes are m o s t in need of mental resurrection; therefore, they will be resurrected first.

F u r t h e r m o r e , w e believe w e are the people of God's choice, as it has been written, that G o d would choose the rejected a n d the despised. W e can find no other persons fitting this description in these last days m o r e than the so-called Negroes in A m e r i c a . W e believe in the resurrection of the righteous. 6. W E B E L I E V E in the j u d g e m e n t ; w e believe this first j u d g e m e n t will take place as G o d revealed, in A m e r i c a . 7. W E B E L I E V E this is the time in history for the separation of the so-called N e groes and the so-called white A m e r i c a n s . W e believe the black m a n should be freed in n a m e as well as in fact. B y this w e m e a n that he should be freed f r o m the n a m e s imposed upon h i m by h i s former slave masters. N a m e s which identified h i m as being the slave master's slave. W e believe that if w e are free indeed, w e should go in our o w n people's n a m e s — t h e black peoples of the earth.

T h e H o n o r a b l e Elijah

AAuhammad

8. W E B E L I E V E in justice for all, w h e t h er in G o d or not; w e believe as others, that w e are due equal justice as h u m a n beings. W e believe in equality—as a nation — of equals. W e do not believe that w e are equal with our slave masters in the status of "freed slaves." W e recognize a n d respect A m e r i c a n citizens as independent peoples a n d w e respect their laws which govern this nation. 9. W E B E L I E V E that the offer of integration is hypocritical a n d is m a d e by those w h o are trying to deceive the black peoples into believing that their 400-year-old open enemies of f r e e d o m , justice and equality are, all of a sudden, their "friends." Furtherm o r e , w e believe that such deception is intended to-prevent black people f r o m realizing that the time in history has arrived for the separation f r o m the whites of this nation. If the white people are truthful about their professed friendship toward the socalled N e g r o , they can prove it by dividing up A m e r i c a with their slaves. W e do not believe that A m e r i c a will ever be able to furnish enough jobs for her o w n millions of u n e m p l o y e d , in addition to jobs for the 20.000,000 black people as well. 10. W E B E L I E V E that w e w h o declared ourselves to be righteous M u s l i m s , should not participate in w a r s which take the lives of h u m a n s . W e do not believe this nation should force us to take part in such w a r s , for w e h a v e nothing to gain f r o m it unless A m e r i c a agrees to give us the necessary territory wherein w e m a y h a v e something to fight for. 11. W E B E L I E V E our w o m e n should be respected and protected as the w o m e n of other nationalities are respected a n d protected. 12. W E B E L I E V E that Allah ( G o d ) a p peared in the Person of Master W . F a r d M u h a m m a d , July, 1930; the long-awaited " M e s siah" of the Christians a n d the " M a h d i " of the M u s l i m s .

ft W e believe further and lastly that Allah is G o d a n d besides H I M there is no G o d a n d H e will bring about a universal g o v e r n m e n t of peace wherein w e ail can live in peace together.
