Referring directly to Congolese guests attending the banquet, Chou said "our C o n g o l e s e friends regard China as a staunch comrade-in-arms at all times, and this is an expression of great trust in and support to us. The Chinese people will n e v e r disappoint you. The friendship between us is sincere and not false. Such friendship can stand all tests." In explanation of Chinese policy on Africa, Chou q u o t i n g Chinese l e a d e f Mao Tse Tung said, "the people who have triumphed in their own revolution s h o u l d help those still struggling for liberation. Reveal Cost of Black Ghetto Rebellions Soared Over $1-Billion Mark NEW YORK CITY — No realistic e f f o r t has been made to remedy the problems at the core of black uprisings which swept 67 cities across America during the summer of 1967, despite innumerable studies and donothing committees which have been sponsored to investigate the racial turmoil. REP. JOHN Conyers (D Mich.), who has introduced a $30 - billion bill to aid the nation's ghettos, t o l d a I MUHAMMAD SPEAKS reporter in Chicago during the recent National ConI ference of Negro Elected Officials that onyers the only way to solve ghetto problems is to "get rid of the ghettos," and provide decent education, jobs, housing and overall living conditions for black people in America. " I don't think legislators have the foresight to do this," he said, "and by the same token, as long as black people s u f f e r such staggering economic deprivation and racial discrimination, I don't think ghetto upheavals will cease." The overall cost of black uprisings during 1967 was close to $1 billion. A recent Associated Press s u r v e y showed that urban turmoil during the past s u m m e r caused more than $100 million in property damage alone, and the grim returns are still trickling in. THE SURVEY found that more than 16,000 p e r s o n s have been arrested during outbreaks of violence in the 67 cities, more than 3,200 were injured and 85 were killed. Courts dealing with criminal charges arising' from the so-called "riots" will be clogged for months, the Associated Press survey found. DOUBLE FINANCIAL aftermath of Detroit black rebellion is graphically illustrated in separate scenes presented here. Although costs of black retaliations soared into the billions of dollars, much of white America's genocidal treatment of its black citizenry remains unchanged. Observers of mounting

black unrest across the nation are firmly convinced that the billion-dollar bill presented to whites last summer will be repeated often unless meaningful changes are brought about soon.

Instead of visiting the new town of Reston, Thabit said the AIP should "make t h e nation familiar with the slums of Washington. Isn't it time to see the hovels, talk to the people."

"WE ARE preparing to go to war against the Negro. Find Black Struggle i n America Winning World Backing . . . (Pan African Press) " . . . there is a wealth of evidence to suggest that what began as a domestic civil-rights movement has turned of late into a global drive, at the center of which are the now-allied struggles of the National Liberation Front of South Viet Nam and the American Negro," states William Worthy in an article entitled "The Amer-

William Worthy ican Negro is Dead," which appears in the November edition of Esquire. WORTHY points out that "the emergence of Black Power over the last few years is not just an American but an international development in which Fidel Castro and Ho Chi Minh are figures of inspiration, along with Stokely Carmichael and Floyd McKissick, a n d in which all of them overshadow such 'moderates' as Martin Luther King and Whitney Young." He says Carmichael's controversial visit to Cuba last summer is one of the few visible signs of the new international character of the American civil-rights struggle. By all indications. Worthy emphasizes, black people in America are finding support outside the United States. Even in Viet Nam. he goes on, members of the N.L.F. have shown partiality to Negro GIs, in some cases running up to them in Saigon and warning them not to enter certain buildings that are about to be blown up. TURNING to the American scene, Worthy relates in the Esquire article the case of one black youth who refused to be drafted. "One warm night a year ago last July, two F B I

agents approached Edward A. Oquendo on a Brooklyn street and asked him to get into their car 'for a talk.' Oquendo, a 21-year-old Negro who had refused to take a physical examination for the draft, tells the story: T refused and said that if we had any talking to do we could do it right there. I spoke in a manner which caused t h e neighbors to gather.' "Surrounded by a dozen bristling Negroes, the agents left hastily. When they finally arrested Oquendo, it was early in the morning before anybody was on the street, and this time there were four agents, two cars and handcuffs. "SINCE THAT t i m e . " Worthy continues, "the United States government has tried to take Oquendo to trial seven times, but it has not succeeded. On each scheduled date, he has appeared in the courtroom with an ever-larger coterie of friends and neighbors, dressed in African tribal robes a n d breathing defiance. "Oquendo's trial, like the trials of other Negro draft refusers who can rally this kind of community support, has been postponed repeatedly on government motion." Worthy quotes Oquendo, who is a member of Youth Against War and Fascism, (Continued

as saying Afro-American resistance to the draft is widespread. " I F YOU GO down to the Pitkin Avenue draft board in Brownsville, the heart of the black ghetto in Brooklyn, you will see sheet upon sheet of names, mounting into the hundreds, marked 'delinquent.' " Worthy points out that the situation he describes "is not unique. Local Draft Board 16, which covers a part of Harlem, recently had a list of 600 cases, most of them Negro, a few Puerto Ricans. I t is doubtful that many of them will ever be inducted or prosecuted, and without exception the 'delinquents' have the blessing of the surrounding community. "Throughout the Summer of 1966 an organization called 'Black Women Enraged' picketed a Harlem recruiting station, openly urging Negroes not to serve. "ABOUT THE same time, in Detroit, a very religious 'Sister Louise,' together with some v f her hymn-singing friends, swooped down on an Army induction station early one morning, snatched her son out of the line of draftees, and took h i m home in a taxi. ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam is closely viewed by World Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali at the "Wall of Respect," located in heart of one of Chicago's black Andrew G. Paschal, Ph.B., veteran sociologist and research historian, is one of the leading theoreticians of the "new breed" of black educators who are setting higher standards of ethics in the expanding struggle for the liberation of black people in America and Africa. Writing under the theme of "black justice," Mr. Paschal began last week and closes on this page his analytical study of Muhammad Ali's treatment because he refused to be inducted into the United States military forces—against the background of his absorbing dissertation on "black justice" and "white justice."

ghettos. The wall is the creation of visual artists of Organization of Black American Culture, who with photographs and paint sought to honor black heroes like the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and champion Muhammad Ali.

New Y o r k times

Alone of all the Negro leaders Elijah Muhammad has a vivid awareness of the vital need of a new birth.

By Andrew G. Paschal Please note: Muhammad All Is. he remains the HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD! Why so? Because there was absolutely no basis, no justification for taking the title away from him! SAY A MAN states that I owe him $10,000; I deny that I owe him anything. But — right at this point, somebody who has authority takes my house and gives it to the man for the debt. Then, at some future time, if it is established — as I claim — that I do not owe the debt, my house may be returned to me. That's black justice, the sort designed for black men like Muhammad Ali — and the true friends of black men who live and die for freedom and j ustice, like John Brown! But we say he (Ali) refused to take the oath and be inducted. Yes, he had a right to so refuse — the only manly and courageous action he possibly could have taken. That draft board in Kentucky, his home, has, as do all draft boards, a quasi-jury to decide the classification of draftees. But this quasi-jury deciding Ali's case was the customary all-white jury. He requested that some of his

peers — his race, neighbors, religious associates — be placed on the board's jury. IT WAS his basic and fundamental right to make this r e q u e s t and to have i : granted. But this right was denied him. Whereupon, he refused to take the oath of induction and in doing so, he was more than 100 per cent right! And nothing else would prejudice an already prejudiced ail - white jury more than to strip him of his title. That act spoke quite clearly that he was "already guilty" and the jury trial to follow was a mere show or formality. So, the all-white, KuKlux - Klan - Texas jury, according to plan, found him "guilty." Now just where does white end and black begin? Is it that black people are incapable of doing or granting justice to themselves, or is It (Continued on page 11)

The taboo was "automatically" lifted with the release in 1958 (or '57) of the Muslims' own 45 rpm album, "White Man's Heaven is Black Man's Hell." The record, which tells the true and sorrowful tale of black man's suffering and depravation since the days of slavery, ending with the advent of the latter-day Messenger (Muhammad) and the promise of Islam, now is recognized widely as a best seller in its own right.

How HP

By Elijah Muhammad Messenger of Allah Of all the thousands and tens of thousands of instruction items on health issued by doctors and scientists regarding the type of food that we should eat, none of them is equal to the way that Allah—in the Person of Master Fard Muhammad, to Whom Praise is due forever—has taught us. EATING ONE meal a day, one meal every other day or one meal every three days is a better way to obtain gooa health and long life than all of the tens of thousands of pamphlets and books authored by doctors, quack doctors and would-be doctors. The divine points out the best way that will produce good health. We should not stuff our stomachs with food just because we have the food to put in our stomachs three times a day. SOME PEOPLE are foolish enough to think eating three or four times a day is really the way to obtain good health — but take a second thought of what you are doing. You keep your stomach working. all the time trying to digest the surplus food for which your stomach has not even asked. He, Master Fard Muhammad (God in Person), taught me never to eat when I am not hungry. He taught me to wait until I am fully hungry—then to eat until I am full and not to eat again until I am really hungry. This is common sense. THE PIG EATS all the time; the chicken eats all the time—as long as you give them food to eat—and their span of life is significantly short. The dog is greedy, but the hog is greedier. The dog will stop eating when it has eaten enough. I f you continue to feed it, it will try to store the food until such a time that it is hungry. OFTEN, YOU hear people say "Come on and eat" and one will say " I am not hungry." The reply is: "Eat before you get hungry." This is most unwise. I t is inviting sickness and death. The mucous-forming foods eaten by the people should be replaced with such less mucous-forming foods as plenty of vegetables and fruits. Whole wheat bread should be eaten instead of white bread, which is mucous-forming. LET US TRY not to eat so much meat — especially animal flesh. No meat is good for good health and longevity. We must stop eating meat gradually, because actually, me*j; is not by nature a food for huma^ consumption. Eating one meal once a day or once every two days, with no meals between, gives the body time to rest the digestive machinery, after the previous meal—and this gives the blood time to purify itself of the poison from the iast meal. AFTER THREE days without taking food into the body, the blood is found to be in much better condition. Let us see if we can gradually stop eating animal flesh and chickens or fowls of any kind. EAT TO LIVE and not to die. WHEN IN HOUSTON, TEXAS VISIT

Dental

You and

Role of Missing in a Dental

Teeth

Breakdown

By Dr. Leo P. X McCallum When a dentist examines the mouth of a patient undergoing a checkup, he must be on the alert for many problems. One of the most common of these is that of missing teeth. A break in the integrity of the dental arch is the first step i n a total dental breakdown. I n the mouths where we have the fewest problems, we find a common denominator: the presence of all the teeth in correct relation to one another. The failure to replace extracted teeth can cause all kinds of bizarre problems. I n this column are photographs of a rather unusual case presented to our office for diagnosis and treatment planning. You will note in Figure 1, with the patient's mouth open, there is a large ulceration (arrow) on the lower jaw. We also call attention to the fact that there are no Dr. Leo teeth in the lower jaw. This wound, or ulceration, may be the result of any one of a dozen or more things, including cancer — and the

MYSTERIOUS THREE-TRAIN disaster, which railroad dispatchers of Brussels, Belgium, are at a loss to explain, resulted in 10 instant deaths and 70 other casualties, 20 of whom are not expected to live. Trains were an express going to Brussels and two slower pas-

JUDGE GRIFFIN Bell of the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit announced at a hearing that the court would issue a formal ruling declaring valid the state's program for aiding dependent children. The ruling was issued as a result of suit brought by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which charged that the state's regulation for f i nancial aid to dependent children vitually forced Negroes to accept domestic em-

This, and only this, is the path to true progress. ployment and seasonable agriculture work. The NAACP, filing the suit for a group of Negro mothers from Grady and Dougherty counties, charged that the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare should never have approved the program.

Muhammad Ali treads this path: Not dollars, but prevailing principles. Not compromise but a fight to the finish for justice. It's not a religious matter any more than it should be a racial matter. It's a matter of justice—only justice. THEN, right here and now, 22 m i l l i o n black people should lead the way by joining him in the fight. Now or never! "Peace, i f possible; but Justice at any cost."

IN W A S H I N G T O N , D.C. Figure 2 dentist must keep on his toes in order to come up with the right answer. Now look at Figure 2. Notice the relationship of the upper front tooth (outlined) to the ulceration. Literally, this patient is "eating herself up." Since there are no lower teeth to stop the upper teeth from closing into the lower gum, this patient has bitten a hole in her gum. This problem is not as rare as you might think. I t often happens in spaces where there are no opposing teeth and one tooth begins to bite into the gum. Check your own mouth by closing your teeth together and spread your lips to see how the teeth are meeting. I f you are missing teeth, check to see i f the tooth opposite the space has moved up or grown down to approach the gum in the area of the missing tooth.

W a r n i n g By Elijah Muhammad Messenger of Allah The greatest and the most serious trap set to prevent the once black s l a v e s of America from enjoying the salvation brought to us by Allah (God) in the Person of Master Fard Muhammad, to Whom praise is due forever, is the trap of deceiving the Negroes against their salvation, by tempting them to believe in f a l s e promises that the enemy (the Great Deceiver) is not going to fulfill and by placing educated so-called Negroes into higher offices near their own offices. THIS IS a trap to get the so-called Negro to believe that he, here in his slavemaster's country, can enjoy the same freedom, respect, and honor, from the slavemaster that he could get from God and his own people (the Nation of Righteous) When the white man sets so-called Negroes, whom he thinks should be your leaders, in office, without consulting you, remember that they are the white man's choice of leaders for you, not yours. AS I mentioned in the first half of this article, M r . Thur-

"The more the American black man learns of himself as the first and the last of the human family of the earth, the more he will have love for self and land."

We must not forget the warning contained in the history and parables of other people.

to Central America, Mexico and other people of our kind of the Pacific Islands, and you will understand what is being practiced on you today.

good Marshall ( I am very sorry that the printers misspelled his name, Marshall. I hope Mr. Marshall will pardon us and overlook the error of the printer) is raised to the highest honor of the land, in the judicial department. Justice Marshall is in a position to do his people much good. Will he do so? We hope he will use his qualifications, experience and vast knowledge to the advantage of the black man in America who rarely receives justice. However, the so - called American Negro is being deceived by this sudden rise to high positions in the government. This makes him think that the master has placed him in higher honor and respect of the master, when actually this higher honor and respect is controlled by the slavemaster. The socalled A m e r i c a n Negro should not be deceived by the Great Deceiver.

YOU ARE free to go for self. The enemy intends to thwart this freedom of self by offering you temporary enjoyment. The white man's court is ruled by the will of the white man. We can never hope to have equal justice in the courts of the land belonging to a people who are our enemies. The American so - called Negro does not own anything, except what the white man permits him to own — and the white man knows this is the truth.

LET US use our own opinions on who should be raised to honor among us, to serve us. As long as we accept and swallow the white man's batt on the trigger of deceit, we will continue to be slaves. Read the history of how Europe and America ruled Asia, Africa, South America,

The white man's court is ruled by the will of the white man. We can never hope to have equal justice in the courts of the land belonging to a people who are our enemies.

NOW, THE white man sees a divine salvation coming to the Negro and he wants to deceive the Negro into not accepting a permanent salvation for his present and future lives. The blind, deaf and dumb so-called Negroes do not see this manifestation of the d e s t r u c t i o n of his slavemasters' children's power to rule. We must not forget the

Black warning contained in the history and parables of other people. The seventh Chapter of the Holy Qur-an warns us against being deceived by the arch deceiver (the white race). The Bible also warns us in the last book (the Revelations of John) against being deceived by the beast. The beast is a reference to a people and not an animal. THEY HAD deceived the whole world — not helped the world in the way of truth, peace and salvation of the people—into believing in a temporary enjoyment filled with evil and filth. The seventh Chapter of the Holy Qur-an teaches that this race of people leads us to nothing but evil and indecency. We have self-experience of this teaching and these p e o p l e . The Holy Qur-an %varns us in this same chapter not to let the arch deceiver pull your clothes off and show the nations your shame. THIS IS being done today. He makes it seem decent to strip women of clothes almost up to their waists (the miniskirts). He makes people think that it is alright to go half nude in public—and the black man here in America a l l o w s his wife and daughter to follow such a filthy way of life. Why? Because he is deceived; thinking his enemy's way of life brings the slave respect. But this is the farthest from respect. T h e y know they are doomed for

Therefore, they do not mind disgracing themselves to get you to disgrace yourselves, so t h a t you will not be fit for the Kingdom of Heaven, which is now offered to you on earth. ALLAH referred to them in the following words: The skunks of the planet earth. This does not mean they are actually animals, but t h e i r characteristics are as offensive in His eyes and presence and that of the righteous, as a skunk, displaying and scattering his odor over the members of the house of refined society. Because of t h e i r public d i s p l a y of filth, you are warned not to be tempted, lest you lose your salvation of being united with your God and people. White people always h a v e believed they tempt the black man, through their unalikeness. They learned through their father, soon after they were made, that they could attract the black man (from whom they were grafted) to do other than himself. THE LUST after high offices controlled by the enemy is v e r y dangerous. There is no so-called Negro leader who today can lead so-called Negroes into the positions of self - independence, self - respect and uni-

iticians! versal recognition, o t h e r than a Muslim leader. All Christian believers or leaders are controlled by white people for the white man's interest. Many of the black educated or intellectual people are being offered rewards to try to help him destroy and bring to naught the plans of God to set the so-called Negroes in heaven at once (self-independence) by working against God's, aim and plan through the small group of Muslims, under Elijah's teachings of justice, righteousness, freedom and equality of the nations of the earth. RESPECT and honor now are being enjoyed by all of my followers. However, the arch deceiver intends to keep the intellectual class and the clergy class of the so-called Negro working in his favor (the white race of America) and not in the favor of the black race (of w h i c h they are members) under the guidance of Allah (God), in the Person of Master Fard Muhammad, to Whom praise is due forever. R e a d the following verses of the Holy Qur-an (Chapter 7, verses 113 and 114). 7:113 — "And the enchanters came to Pharaoh saying; We must surely have a reward if we prevail." 7:114—"He said; Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near to me." HERE, WE learn that the magicians were working on the side of Pharaoh to oppose M o s e s and Aaron's preachings of liberation and freedom of the Jews from Pharaoh into a country or state of self - independence. The greatest and most serious trap set to prevent the once black slaves of America from enjoying the salvation brought to us by Allah (God) in the Person of Master Fard Muhammad, to Whom praise is due forever, is the trap of deceiving the Negroes against their salvation by tempting them to believe in false promises. The magicians were defeated and they agreed and confessed that Moses' God was the God of their people and that they would go back to their god. In verse 123 of the same chapter, s e v e n , Pharaoh threatens them against their belief in Moses and Aaron's preachings of liberation of Israel and claimed that they already had decided to believe Moses and Aaron, to help free Israel. He threat-

ened to crucify them by cutting off their hands and feet on opposite sides. IN THE 126th verse, the magicians replied to Pharaoh's threat by saying that he only takes revenge on them because they believed in the message of Allah when it came to them. They make a prayer for their Ignorance in believing Pharaoh's deceit, before the comThey know they are doomed for total destruction. Therefore, they do not mind disgracing themselves to get you to disgrace yourselves, so that you will not be fit for the Kingdom of Heaven, which is now offered to you on earth. ing of Moses and Aaron in the following words: "Our Lord pour out on qs patience and cause us to die in submission to Thee." I HOPE the leaders of our people will be converted to the truth of their salvation and recite the same prayer of the magicians of Pharaoh. The o n l y way the socalled A m e r i c a n Negro, whose great number is between 20 and 30 million people (enough people to build a mighty nation, with the proper guidance and power) can ever reach and enjoy the salvation of self - independence, as other nations, is that he must be protected from the deceit of his enemies by being given a thorough knowledge of himself and his enemy. Historian Says Negroes Voting More, But Getting Less Out of It (Pan African Press) American politics is designed to perpetuate the status quo by curtailing social revolutions and making progressive moves impossible for those outside the ruling element. New Black Consciousness Aids Business Drive By Skip Bossette (Pan African Press) A growing sense of black pride and identity among American Negroes, one of the results of the blackpower m o v e m e n t and freedom struggle, is opening new avenues for black business. ALL OVER the country, Negro entrepeneurs are beginning enterprises seeking to take advantage of the growing sense of black consciousness building in the U.S. Among these is Odie Anderson, the 23-year-old director of The Connection, a South Side Chiago haberdashery that gives the young Negro male the traditional dress of Africa to satisfy his need for an Afro-American

Anderson adds that this is precisely what now draws the black man together. "The black man's experience in the U.S. has drawn him closer together," he says. Hamilton, chairman of the political science department of Chicago's Roosevelt University and co-author with Stokely Carmichael of Black Power: The Politics of Liberation in America. "BLACK people in America's ghettos a r e becoming well aware that what the white man gives, he can take away," D r . Hamilton added. "The simple truth of the matter is that ghetto uprisings are bound to continue until black people have economic stability and political p o w e r which cannot be taken away or surreptitiously managed." The noted political science professor pointed out t h a t "one glaring void" in poverty and riot studies has been the failure to acknowledge or address the fact that Negroes are beginning to demand control of the political and economic forces which manage their lives. THE PEOPLE who write these studies seem to be afraid to deal with the realities of life and the growing

Charles Hamilton awareness in the ghettos, Dr. Hamilton said. " T h e y want to go back to the naive N e g r o of yesterday and solve his problems, rather than deal with the sophisticated black man of today who is demanding fundamental changes." Dr. Hamilton pointed o u t that one of the basic themes of the book he co-authored w i t h Stokely Carmichael questions the legitimacy of the U.S. political and economic system. A measure of the value of any political or economic system is its ability to cope with social realities, he declared. "THEREFORE we inquire into whether or not the present structure of this country

Can speak to the problems of this country. We suggest that the solution to ghetto problems involves the establishment of viable black political and economic units. But is this solution practical — or even possible — under the present structure?" The book, he said, deals with two o t h e r broad themes: the psychology of black self-pride and identity — "which Mr. Muhammad addressed himself to several decades ago" — and the need for group solidarity. Dr. Hamilton s a i d the "sickness" of U.S. society Is apparent in the attitude of whites—including social scientists and other authorities — concerning black uprisings, past and future. " T H E Y WANT these uprisings to end, but readily predict further ghetto upheavals next summer, if not before," he said. "This paradoxical expectation — despite the studies, the war on poverty and other measures — seems to be a clear indication of America's inability to deal with social realities." Turning to the problems in Africa, Dr. Hamilton said one of the goals of the black revolution in America must be to neutralize the U.S. against interfering in Africa. Dr. Hamilton said one of the g o a l s of the black revolution in America must be to neutralize the U.S. against interfering in Africa. ATLANTA — Ruby Doris Robinson, a former Executive Secretary of the Student Non - violent Coordinating Committee and a w o m a n fondly described by members of the organization as "the heartbeat of SNCC," has died here at the age of 25. HER DEATH came after "10 months of severe illness," but she remained active in the struggle for black equality until the last. S h e left behind a husband, Clifford Robinson of Atlanta, and a son, Kenneth Toure Robinson. Mrs. Robinson was the daughter of an Atlanta minister, the Rev. James Smith and his wife. She attended Price High School, locally, and Spelman College. She had worked with SNCC since 1960 and was instrumental in organizing the Atlanta movement with State Representative Julian Bond. She was one of the original "Freedom Riders" to arrive in Jackson, Miss., and was jailed for 42 days in Parchman Penitentiary as a result.

She served as personnel officer, Southern Student Coordinator and bookkeeper for SNCC as well as the administrator of the Sojourner Motor Fleet, a pool of about 100 cars for movement w o r k e r s in eight Southern states. "Ruby's passing is especially tragic for all those involved in the struggle for human rights and the liberation of black people. "Black people there have no one to turn to." Rep. Bond said he supports the call for a drive to enlist black youths in America to go to Southern Africa as guerrilla fighters against white minority dictatorships. THE YOUNG G e o r g i a lawmaker said even the majority of whites in America are turning against U.S. policy in Viet Nam, according to the latest national polls. I t is an immoral war," he went on, "but Americans are not opposing it because of a moral change of heart. They are just tired of it. "They see U.S. involvement in Viet Nam as an exercise in futility. I n spite of America's guns, tanks, napalm and overall air and land power, people are recognizing that the U.S. cannot

bring the Vietnamese people to heel. The reason for this, of course, is that they are fighting for what is right and America is fighting for what is wrong." Bond, who was twice denied his seat in the Georgia legislature because of his opposition to American aggression in Viet Nam, but finally was seated because of a ruling by the Supreme Court, said he doesn't expect any change in U.S. policy in the near future. " I T IS heartening," he added, "to see the have-nots of Viet Nam uniting against the American-backed military rulers even if this unity stems from election corruption. Let's hope the pressure of the next U.S. election will lead to a change of policy and, hopefully, a withdrawal from Viet Nam. But I ' m not

optimistic." Turning to the black upheavals of the past summer, Rep. Bond pointed out that even whites do not suggest that the long, hot summers are over. He said such sentiments, especially from whites, indicate they recognize t h a t nothing will be changed by 1968, despite the studies, the war on poverty and other such measures. " I N ATLANTA, for example," he continued, "the fact that 50 black persons have jobs who didn't have jobs before doesn't really change much in the ghetto. "The 50.000 black people who haven't received any benefits, or only marginal benefits, will be as discontented in 1968 as they were in 1967. I .assume this is the case in urban centers across the country." Bond said one fact which the p o w e r structure of America fails to reckon with is the growing sophistication among impoverished black people. "They want tangible, permanent improvements in their standard of living, not some kind of temporary relief which can be withdrawn at any time. They'want a living wage 52 weeks a year, a house they can count on as theirs for the rest of thir l i v e s , and vast improvements in education. Beyond this, they want a positive say-so in the political forces which affect their lives." Rep. Bond pointed out that the determination of ghetto Negroes to achieve t h e s e goals is increasing steadily as time passes, but there is (Continued

A ROMAN Catholic priest told the National Congress of American Indians that the tribes were being "blackmailed" by Congress with their own money. The Rev. Thomas Connolly, who worked a year with the Menominee Indians in Wisconsin, said that whenever Congress passed enabling legislation granting courtawarded funds to Indians, attempts were made to terminate the tribe from Federal control. He said Congress dangled the money in front of the Indians to entice them to agree to termination. "This is doubly bad because they are refusing to pay Indians their own money," he said. "What they are doing is denying the Indians the right of self-determination.

What Islam Has Done For Me

Truth of Messenger Muhammad's Care is Exemplified in Minister Muhammad Ali By Thedore 4X (Mosque No. 25) On September 29, 1967 at Muhammad's Mosque No. 25 Newark, New Jersey, it was indeed a pleasure as well as a privilege to be able to sit and listen to the World's Heavy Weight Champion Minister Muhammad Ali, as he addressed an audience of

about 500 people or more. MANY so-called American Negroes have been so deceived by the tricks and lies of their slave master until they fail to see with their own eyes that the Muslim Minister Muhammad Ali has been blessed to no end since giving up the slave name Clay and accepting a right-

eous name of God in the person. We must remember that a change should be for the better and not the worse. Minister Muhammad Ali in my opinion constantly proves himself to be a true example of a Muslim who is striving to be upright, because he never hesitates to give recognition to the man of the hour, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. He made it so plain to the deeply concerned audience that the Giant Step of his life was taken when he accepted Messenger Muhammad as the only key to a Blackman's success in this day and time. This is something that every follower of the Messenger can truthfully bear witness to. I myself can truthfully say from experience, that the goal line for every so - called American Negro is to accept Islam and reject the religion of Christianity. When we begin to think back over the years of the many black champions of the sports world, we do not take it as a shock to see Muhammad Ali with the crown today. Yet there has to be a reason for white America wanting so desperately to keep the Muslim Champ out of the light which actually belongs to him. The Honorable E l i j a h Muhammad teaches us that we are living in the time when truth and falsehood are at war. This being the case, we can

see with our own eyes — if they are open — that the white man, along with his deaf, dumb, and blind slaves, is actually fighting a hopeless battle. I SAY that every blackman with any intelligence whatso-ever should hurry and do as the Messenger of Allah has caused Muhammad Ali and hundreds of others to do, and that is to accept your

own and be yourself. T h i s will automatically cause us to not o n l y hold the championship in boxing, but we will quickly b e c o m e the champions of righteousness, honest, cleanliness, self respect, self pride and self determination, just as our Brother Muhammad Ali has done behind the leadership of God's Greatest and Last Messenger, The Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

Why Messenger Emphasizes that Black Man Must Be Prepared for Armageddon Sister Ruth 20X (Mosque No. 7-D) Recently, a moderator of one of the local broadcasting stations invited to his program the alert, sharp-witted, capable, young New York representative of Muhammad's Mosque of Islam, Minister Louis Farrakhan as guest speaker. Many people called in to voice their opinions on the air for the Messenger's program. Among the call-in guests was a woman who described herself as a Caucasian, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

The proof is in the Negro woman's conversation and in her offspring. Does the "great white father" respect you for these weak qualities? Love is measured by works and deeds. (to be continued)

Design 'Paper' House for Use in Disasters NEW YORK—A house that can be erected quickly to provide temporary accommodations in disaster areas and made out of paper has been displayed at an exhibition in London, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization reported. THE HOUSE, made from triple-wall corrugated fibreboard, a material usually used for packaging, was designed by a British architect.

A F R I C A N S T Y L E S and art objects are the staple items to be found at The Connection, a C h i c a g o business that meets the desires of a newly developing segment of the $27 billion-ayear Negro market.

THE INSURED property damage from the Detroit riot of July 23-26 will total $70,000,000 when all the claims are paid, the Mutual Loss Research Bureau has estimated. John Wrend, secretary-manager of the bureau, said that all reported property damage from the riot had been inspected by insurance adjusters and settlements had been agreed on in about 60 per cent of the claims.

Allah Presents

ilusum Program fjat tfje illusiltmsf Want

This is the question asked most frequently by both the whites and the blacks. The answers to this question I shall state as simply !as possible. j 1. We want freedom. We want a full and complete freedom. 2. We want justice. Equal justice under the law. We want justice applied equally to all, regardless of creed or class or color. 3. We want equality of opportunity. We want equal membership in society with the best in civilized society. 4. We want our people in America whose parents or grandparents were descendants from slaves, to be allowed to establish a separate state or territory of their own—either on this continent or elsewhere. We believe that our former slave masters are obligated to provide such land and that the area must be fertile and minerally rich. We believe that our . former slave masters are obligated to maintain and supply our needs in this separate territory for the next 20 to 25 years—until we are able to produce and supply our own needs. Since we cannot get along with them in peace and equality, after giving them 400 years of our sweat and blood and receiving in return some of the worst treatment human ; beings have ever experienced, we believe our I contributions to this land and the suffering ' forced upon us by white America, justifies ' our demand for complete separation in i I state or territory of our own. 5. We want freedom for all Believers of ! Islam now held in federal prisons. We want freedom for all black men and women now under death sentence in innumerable prisons in the North as well as the South. ! We want every black man and woman to have the freedom to accept or reject being separated from the slave master's children and establish a land of their own. We know that the above plan for the solution of the black and white conflict is the best 1 and only answer to the problem between two people.

WUt

6. We want an immediate end to the police brutality and mob attacks against the socalled Negro throughout the United States. We believe that the Federal government should intercede to see that black men and women tried in white courts receive justice in accordance with the laws of the land—or allow us to build a new nation for ourselves, dedicated to justice, freedom and liberty. 7. As long as we are not allowed to establish a state or territory of our own. we demand not only equal justice under the laws of the United States, but equal employment opportunities—NOW! We do not believe that after 400 years of free or nearly free labor, sweat and blood, which has helped America become rich and powerful, that so many thousands of black people should have to subsist on relief, charity or live in poor houses. 8. We want the government of the United States to exempt our people from ALL taxation as long as we are deprived of equal justice under the laws of the land. 9. We want equal education—but separate schools up to 16 for boys and 18 for girls on the condition that the girls be sent to women's colleges and universities. We want all black children educated, taught and trained by their own teachers. Under such schooling system we believe we will make a better nation of people. The United States government should provl -ree, all necessary text books and equipment/ schools and college buildings. The Muslim teac >.ers shall be left free to teach and train their people in the way of righteousness, de*cency and self respect. 10. We believe that intermarriage or race mixing should be prohibited. We want the religion of Islam taught without hinderance or suppression. These are some of the things that we, the Muslims want for our people in North America.

WE B E L I E V E in the truth of the Bible, but we believe that it has been tampered with and must be reinterpreted so that mankind will not be snared by the falsehoods that have been added to it.

Furthermore, we believe we are the people of God's choice, as it has been written, that God would choose the rejected and the despised. We can find no other persons fitting this description in these last days more than the so-called Negroes in America. We believe in the resurrection of the righteous. 6. WE B E L I E V E in the judgement; we believe this first judgement will take place as God revealed, in America . . .

8. WE B E L I E V E in justice for all, whether in God or not; we believe as others, that we are due equal justice as human beings. We believe in equality—as a nation — of equals. We do not believe that we are equal with our slave masters in the status of "freed slaves." We recognize and respect American citizens as independent peoples and we respect their laws which govern this nation. 9. WE B E L I E V E that the offer of integration is hypocritical and is made by those who are trying to deceive the black peoples into believing that their 400-year-old open enemies of freedom, justice and equality are, all of a sudden, their "friends." Furthermore, we believe that such deception is intended to prevent black people from realizing that the time in history has arrived for the separation from the whites of this nation. If the white people are truthful about their professed friendship toward the socalled Negro, they can prove it by dividing up America with their slaves. We do not believe that America will ever be able to furnish enough jobs for her own millions of unemployed, in addition to jobs for the 20.000,000 black people as well. 10. WE B E L I E V E that we who declared ourselves to be righteous Muslims, should not participate in wars which take the lives of humans. We do not believe this nation should force us to take part in such wars, for we have nothing to gain from it unless America agrees to give us the necessary territory wherein We may have something to fight for. 11. WE B E L I E V E our women should be respected and protected as the women of other nationalities are respected and protected 12. WE B E L I E V E that Allah (God) appeared in the Person of Master W. Fard Muhammad, July, 1930; the long-awaited "Messiah" of the Christians and the "Mahdi" of the Muslims. We believe further and lastly that Allah is God and besides HIM there is no God and He will bring about a universal government of peace wherein we all can iiVe in peace together.
