HARVARD STUDENT and Member of the President's Commission on Campus Unrest Joseph Rhodes said that the killing of students at Jackson State College in Mississippi and Kent State University in Ohio was completely unjustified. Speaking of Jackson State Rhodes said that Mississippi lawmen demonstrated a "lack of concern for the human life of Black people, they regarded the Black people of Mississippi as fair game for their missiles, for their weapons and acted in seemingly totally unprofessional ways." New Haven police chief Thomas Ahearn joined Rhodes in this appraisal.

MULTI - M I L L I O N A I R E S W. Clement Stone and Charles Merrill, representing both right and left wing fascist attempts to manipulate the political and economic life of Black communities, recently defended their massive financing of various organized Black criminals in Chicago and elsewhere. Also a backer of the reactionary and racist youth propaganda group, the Boys Clubs of America, Stone openly uses his money to control politics. Some Black groups he sponsors used physical force and threats to press for a pseudo - militant Black boycott campaign of the '68 elections. They also harassed Blacks in local elections. This helped elect Nixon - Agnew: Stone was their biggest backer. A disciple of police state control disguised as 'anticommunism' Stone's ideology is infecting many naive Blacks who do not know that Hitler's rise was paved with the same slogans and policies.

ON T H E L I B Y A N Desert where U.S.' oil miners searched for petroleum products, a discovery has been made that is said to be potentially as valuable than oil. According to J . R . Lester Boyle, drilling engineers of occidental petroleum at a level of 25 to 175 feet below the desert floor, struck water trapped in a vast underground basin of some 1,000 square miles, which according to scientists has aquantity equal to the flow of the Nile River for 1,000 years. The water contains a high carbon dioxide content and will have to be exposed to air (aerated). The origin of the water is uncertain but is believed to flow from the Tibesti Mountains of Chad on the southern border of Libya. The discovery site is in the southeastern corner of the Libyan Desert in the Administrative District of Benghazi. W

CHICAGO — A study finished in 1958 proved beyond a doubt that at least thirty - six million "white" persons in the USA are descendants of persons of African origin. Added to 25 million acknowledged Blacks this means 61 million of 200 million U.S.citizensare Black. Dr. Robert B. Stuckert, a professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, in his article African Ancestry of the White American Population did not decide whether or not race mixing was good or bad but that it has happened in America and that the entire population has been affected by it. THE COLOR - CASTE system has always been pushed in the U.S. for many reasons, mainly as a divider of the general population; it is

By Ralph Cooper (Special to Muhammad Speaks) HOUSTON — Three weeks ago thirteen-year-old, Josephine Canal, reported to the local press that she was struck in the back with a machine gun by C.H. Swann, the owner of the Swann Ice Company. On September 18 she reported that she has not been able to walk without crutches since Swann hit her. T H E L I T T L E Canal girl was one of many young protesters who had been picketing the Swann Ice Company located on the corner of Cline and Jensen in the Fifth Ward section of Houston. They had been picketing Swann because of allegedly high prices for food and unfair employment practices engaged in by the business. Friday, while standing on the porch of her house on crutches, Josephine said, " I can't walk at all without the crutches. I tried to walk without the crutches on several occasions but the pain is unbearable. It hurts so bad." The little Canal girl continued as she sat down in a chair, " I have to go to the

When I try to walk without crutches and when my back starts to hurt, it feels as if needles are sticking me in the back." J O S E P H I N E , a seventh grade student at E . O . I will ask my doctor if I can s t a r t next week.. Sometimes I stay at home all day to keep from having to walk on crutches." Continuing, Josephine said, "In the Voice of Hope, a local paper and in Muhammad Speaks, I read where Swann's son, Ronald, said that his father didn't engage in unfair employment practices. Well he was not telling the truth. "Swann did participate in wrong employment practices. I worked there during the summer. I made a $1.60 an hour which is okay. But my brother, Richard, 9, and his

T H E L I T T L E girl paused for a moment because of what appeared to be pain from her back, then added, "Swann has said he would help my mother pay the doctor bills out to date he has not helped her pay anything." While Josephine Canal tries to recover from a blow dealt upon her by a man who obviously doesn't give a damn about Blacks in the community where he makes a living, moves are being made to rid that community of Mr. C.H. mixing affecting only one gene was equal to or greater than (0.5) 8 or 3.9063 X 10-3. " I T HAS been estimated," wrote Dr. Stuckert, "That there are approximately 20,000 gene loci (the point in a chromosome associated with a particular hereditary trait. "The probability that an individual with one African ancestor has one or more genes derived from this ancestor is equal to 1- (1-3.9063 X 10-3) 10,000 or almost 1.0," that is almost a 100 percent chance. If the white individual had more than one African ancestor the probability increases greatly. "SOME DEGREE of African ancestry is not necessarily related to the physical appearance of the individual," stated Dr. Stuckert. "Many of the genes possessed by virtue of descent from an African do not distinguish the bearer from persons of non-African ancestry. They are the genes or potentials for traits which characterize the human race. Nevertheless, these genes represent an element in the biological constitution of the individual inherited from an African." "Official records have been kept of the white and Negro population since 1970 by the Bureau of the Census and of the influx of foreign population to this country since 1820 by the Immigration and Naturalization Service," Dr. Stuckert reported. In his research all persons were categorized in four all inclusive classifications: white persons with no African ancestry, white persons with some degree of African ancestry, Blacks with some degree of non - African ancestry, and Blacks with African ancestry only. SIX BASIC assumptions were used to base his theories, including that whites in the U.S. had no African ancestry and that most Europeans that migrated' to the U.S. had no African ancestry. This latter assumption ignores, of course, the African migrations throughout southern Europe, the South Pacific, Indo China and elsewhere. He also assumed that 10 per cent of all Africans that lived in colonized territory had non African ancestry. AS T H E T A B L E shows in 1950, 21 per cent of the U.S. population had African

ancestry. For Blacks with European ancestry the rate was 73 per cent; much of this mixing in earlier centuries came from rape of slave women, promiscuity of the slave master, and Jim Crow laws with ruled that Black slaves in the U.S. could not inter-marry when they were selected for ' breeding." In 1960 the rate for whites with African ancestry was 22.8. and 77.4 percent for Blacks with non - African ancestry. Information to this paper has now placed the rate of increase from 1960 to 1970 is from six to ten per cent for whites and slightly over of that mixing for Blacks. "One conclusion stands out from these data," wrote Dr. Stuckert." The belief in the E

The suspension however did not pacify the A A AS group, who agreed to continue its four year drive against the use of dangerous chemicals in Viet Nam. At it's February meeting, the AAAS had resoved that "Whereas recent studies... have shown that 2,4,5-T and 2,4D cause birth malformations in e x p e r m e n t a l a n i m a l s and....conclude that 2,4,5-T is probably dangerous to man and that 2,4-D is potentially dangerous to man, and .... are widely used for military defliation in Vietnam in amounts (20 to 30 lbs/acre . . . there is the possibility that the use of herbicides in Viet Nam is causing birth malformations among infants of exposed mothers (be it) ..resolved..." that discontinuance be urged and a committee formed to study the actual effects of nine years of exposure to such chemicals by the Vietnamese People and their land. The AAAS C O M M I T T E E got just so far in their study, and no further. At the recent International Pugwash Conference on Science .and World Affairs, Dr. Matthew S. Meselson, a Harvard University professor who headed the AAAS herbecide committee, told his collegues, "We were given cooperation, but not the most b a s i c information we need — a list of areas sprayed, and when and with what." Meselson, a m o l e c u l a r biologist, made the referrence to Pentagon's attempts to scuttle scientific efforts of his team during their recent 30day stay in South Viet Nam examing such things as soil, plant, food and mothers milk, samples of human fat, hair and other tissue. Meselson pointed out that precise information on areas s p r a y e d w a s c r u c i a l to

S . f o r c e s , he emphasized have made 30,000 herbicides spraying sorties since 1961 on forest, roadsides, crops and innocent Vietnamese. " S O M E P L A C E I N the Pentagon," Meselson said, the answer was "no" to the AAAS' requests. Defense officials here claim that such i n f o r m a t i o n ( a r e a s of defoliation) is "classified." T h e d e n i a l of such information presents statistical difficulties for the scientists who are seeking to determine past and future genetic effects on Vietnamese children. For obvious reasons, the Pentagon would rather risk the ire of the scientists than to have them document the horrors being perpetrated not only upon living Vietnamese children but on those yet unborn. Prior to 1970 even the White House science advisor, Dr. Lee A. Dubridge held to the Pentagon party-line that the herbicides "helped to save lives". All the while however, studies were being conducted showing that as little as 11.5 milligrams per kilogram of 2.4.5.-T injucted into expermental mice increased the incident of abnormality in the offspring upwards to 90 percent. Pointing to the possible effects on Viet Nam women via w a t e r supply, A . W . Galston, a Y a l e biologist

declared, " I estimate that after a spray operation of 27 pounds per acre of 2,4-D and 2.4.5-T and a 1-inch rainfall, 2,4,5-T in Vietnamese drinking water would r e a c h a concentration of 50 milligrams per liter. " A pregnant woman consuming one liter of water per day would thus ingest 50 milligrams per day of this teratogenic (having monstrous effect) agent," Galston points out that the one milligram per kilogram is not far enough below the minimum teratogenic dose in mice "to give us any margin of safety." Another AAAS member. Bryce Nelson complained. "Why were these herbicides allowed to be widely used in Viet Nam before scientific studies on animals had been performed?" One might ask, was not the same question asked by scientists, and the world at large, about the premeditated diabolical dropping of the Atom and Hydrogen bombs on Asian people.

ST. P E T E R S B U R G , Florida — Over the years, Blacks in the South have experienced the worst kinds of repression imaginable by racist whites. With such practices as civic indifference. police harrassment, prejudicial courts and permissive use of dope, Blacks have been kept in a position ** servitude. These acts have been of such a nature that only a strong and determined people could have weathered the unwarranted brutality. ST. P E T E R S B U R G , a city of approximately 200.000 people with a Black population of a little over 20,000 has been very representative of southern ire towards blacks. The city depends upon tourism to sustain itself economically and every effort is made to attract people to the area. Upon entering St. Petersbury, one is struck with the attractive appearance of this metropolis of the "Sunshine State." Also noticeable are the hordes of decrepit looking aged white people that line the streets, giving one the feeling they are just biding their time in the warmth of the sun, waiting for the final day. Their pensions and savings provide the wealth for the local old age entrepreneurs. As you continue southward you reach the inevitable Black District, lined with run down houses and business districts where capitalistic minded whites have set up the perennial taverns and other enterprises to gouge the Black community while giving nothing uplifting in return. Tourists don't get a chance to see Methodist Town, a small Black community-within-thecommunity located just outside the business area of St.

Photos and Story By Chester Sheard Petersburg: dilapidated houses, so close together the people can hardly breathe; children with bodies bent by rickets due to malnutrition and unhealthy conditions are the •"main attractions" here. The price of admission is powerlessness to deal with powerful civic leaders who could care less if Black people have a decent home, decent food and good living conditions.

Much is done to take care of the old. A new 15-story high rise building was recently built on the edge of Methodist Town by the Presbyterian Church. The tenants are given maps to show how to get to other areas of St. Petersburg — bypassing Methodist Town. It's better to go around the problem than to deal with it. HUNDREDS O F Blacks roam the streets daily, for there is no work to be had —

the city of St. Petersburg is not interested in putting forth the effort to attract job potential businesses to alleviate the high percentage of unemployment among its young Black citizens. It prefers to spend its time and energy' to attract tourists and the aged white. To see "job blocks" form each weekday morning at sunrise is a pitiful sight. Groups of Black people come

Law enforcement agencies seem to go out of their way to harass Black people. During a recent garbage strike there were all kinds of false arrests made based on trumped-up charges ranging from vagrancy to failure to obey an officer. Cries of police brutality echoed from the community as stories of mistreatment at the hands of uniformed bullies kept coming from the police station after each arrest. The indignation displayed by community groups seed to hypo police action. Racist judges set unusually high bonds for offenses of the smallest nature. Typical of the judicial pattern was placement of $500 bonds for such minor offenses as vagrancy or loitering.

ONE YOUNG MAN was placed under $10,000 bond for S throwing a stone at a police car. Many times Blacks were indiscriminately picked up and when asked the charges, the reply was, "Oh, we'll think of something by the time we get to the station." Take the case of Andre Shellman. Andre broke into a car and stole $10.00 worth of groceries. St. Petersburg sentenced him to 10 years in prison! In sentencing him, the judge admitted the severity of Andre's punishment was due to his involvement in a Black freedom movement. Had he stolen the car, the most "time" Shellman would have received would be five years! The most devastating element in this Black community is the permissive use of dope. Although policemen patrol 22nd Street South regularly, no arrests are made of dope users or pushers. NO O N E CAN deny that dope is sold and used in this locale, for all one has to do is watch a certain restaurant. The food cooked here is the heroin sold. Young men and women line up inside this place to buy and use dope right on the premises. After "getting high," the addicts sit in front of the restaurant in broad daylight eating sweets and nodding their life away. Most heart breaking is to see the age range of the users — 15-30. While talking to these young men and women, one senses the terrible drain on the community for losing beautiful Black people to that clinging "monkey." Dope has always forced its users into criminal activities — the women into prostitution, the men into stealing. How the police can allow the flagrant use of dope to continue is quite a "mystery." When addicts can parade their habits in front of the community with the boldness portrayed on 22nd Street, someone is being paid to "turn his head". The study does not include figures on Black children adopted by Blacks who do not use agencies or make legal transactions. • Most welfare departments report that over half of the children they have in long term care situations — that is, in foster homes or in institutions — are non-white," Olds says. The society's 1969 survey shows that 4,336 black children were placed for adoption that year, with 2,889 going to Black families and 1,447 going to white families. The 33 per cent going to white families is an increase of 10 per cent over 1968. Olds said. According to the 1969 figures, 10 states — Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Vermont. Washington and Wisconsin — placed more Black children in white homes than in Black homes. California, Minnesota, New York and Washington each had 100 or more white families adopting Black children. No black children were placed in white homes in seven states: Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and South Dakota. OLDS SAID the Boys and Girls Aid Society, which is supported by the Oregon United Fund, places about 250 children for adoption each year. Some 15 per cent of that number are Black children

T H E BOYS and Girls Aid Society of Oregon, an adoption agency that has pioneered in the practice of interracial adoptions, reports that its survey covered 342 public and private welfare agencies, which handled an estimated 90 per cent of all Black children placed for adoption. Through a program called "Opportunity," the Boys and Girls Aid Society is developing a national project to facilitate and accelerate the adoption of Black children by white families. Charles B. Olds, who heads the program, says that Black families are adopting children at a higher rate than whites, but the absolute number of Black children outside the family structure exceeds the demand for them among Black families alone.

By Charles Simmons (UN correspondent) U N I T E D NATIONS — More than 20,000 Palestinians, Egyptians and other Arab people have been killed by the Israelis as a result of the first shipment of US phantom jets to Israel. THIS STATEMENT was made by Dr. M.T. Mehdi, Secretary - General of the

Action Committee on American - Arab relations. Dr. Mehdi said this in protesting the visit of Israeli President Golda Meir to Washington and her demands for more jets and military hardware to slaughter more Arabs. And now, the Moise Tshombe of the Middle East, US puppet King Hussein, has turned his guns on his own Arab people in behalf of the US and Israel.

n e e d

The horrible massacres resulted in thousands of Palestinian and Jordanian dead and injured families in about one weeks time. On September 23rd, in Amman, King Hussein announced, " I believe the brunt of the problem is over." Meanwhile, according to John Hess writing to the New York Times from Beirut, Lebanon, "a Red Cross plane returned here this morning with 50 foreign journalists who had been trapped in Amman. They confirmed that half the devastated city appeared to be still in commando control and that the other half was under sporadic shelling and sniping from both sides. Smoke, flames, and the boom of shell fire rose from the densely populated refugee camps." On the same day, the Syrian government issued a statement here at the United Nations. They said: "US secretary of State William Rogers, issued a statement accusing the Syrian Arab Republic of sending its troops (Continued on page 16)

The massacre in Jordan is being perpetrated against the Palestinian Fedayeen with the encouragement and the backing of the U.S. It is by the instigation of the US that some Syrian posts are being provoked and bombarded." C u b a n h a r v e s t By Janice Maxwell (The author of this article is a young Black woman, the mother of three and a professional woman as well. Her name above is a fictitious one because she will lose her job if she publicly describes her experiences in Cuba. 'Mrs. Maxwell' went on the secondVenceremos Brigade of canecutters.

Part V HAVANA — Sometimes the Cubans ask how we can live in the USA and I always say, the same way you did in Cuba before the revolution, I'd say, "Ten short years ago you were underdeveloped, colonized and oppressed. Now progress is imminent in all the Americas." W E A L W A Y S asked our Cuban brigade members this question; "Fidel has stated that most oppressed people' were Blacks and women. After the revolution there was a Women's Federation established to integrate women into society rapidly, to make them productive, active members: What is being done to solve the special problems of Black people?" The answer was always the same. "There is no need for a special committee. Our society is open for everyone, there is no difference between Black and white. We do not count how many Blacks and how many whites. We are all Cubans." The following night we talked to two women who are members of Womens Federation. They related the following: 1. The position of women before the revolution was basically the same as those in the rest of Latin America.

Women had legal access to education but generally were denied it because of attitudes of most men. Few jobs were available in factories, some nurses and teachers were needed but there were so few schools and hospitals most privileged jobs were given as political favors. Women worked mainly as domestics, laundresses or prostitutes. Unmarried women with children had no legal rights. 2. Role of women in the revolution (1953-1959): popular socialist movement began in 1941. Small numbers of women organized strikes. Women were involved in 26th July movement. One battalion of women guerrillas in Sierra Maestra fought equally to men. Some Battalions of men and women. F i d e l spoke constantly of the importance of women participating equally in revolution. In two provinces, women directed the 26th July movement.

According to the Bank's recent annual report, the underdeveloped countries w i l l receive development loans totaling an average $1.68 billion over the next three years till 1973. From 1967 through 1970 the average annual donation was supposed to have been $877 million; however, for 1967 it was only $790, for 1968, 1969 and 1970 it was only $772 million. Most of the aid went for military spending on the part of puppet governments.

talked for about two hours. Renaldo is a very hard worker. Usually when we would arrive at a cane field, he would be there cutting already. He never admitted to being tired, said everyone must work very hard for many years in o r d e r to s e c u r e C u b a ' s independence so that they can free the rest of Latin America. Renaldo talked of collectivism, volunteer work attitudes, socialist theory, dialectics and materialism. He explained how difficult these ideas are for some to grasp and that everyone who had fought in the revolution saW certain changes take plape7 and then heard that thefv/ere going to have a socialist government; the concrete conditions made most see that it was an improvement over capitalism.

said that his wife had been a guerrilla in the mountains also. Renaldo was a quiet, hardworking machetero, small in stature and usually not very talkative.

I began "small talk" in the dining room and he appeared to be in a good mood so we went into the recreation room — with a friend who spoke Spanish very well — there we

Some do not understand, he said, and while they are not counter-revolutionary they do just their share and maintain very individualistic attitudes. M a n y B l a c k s do not understand how work can be glorified, Renaldo s a i d , because advancement thru

exemplary work attitudes is a hard concept to teach people who have traditionally done all the hardest work and reaped the least benefits of the society. It was very enlightening. I began to see that I was judging a situation that looked very similar but in reality was quite different. I understood how B l a c k s c o u l d t a l k so emotionally about Cuba being their land and being a Cuban, not being Black or white. There is a soil that Black and white Cubans have fought side by side for. There is no AfroCuban and Spanish Cuban anymore in Renaldo's eyes. The land belongs to the ones who fought for it, who know they had to fight for it and as Renaldo said, if he thought there was discrimination he would go to the mountains to fight again. Saturday, January 3rd, the National Folkloric Ballet came to camp. This group dances traditional African dances that have been handed down from generation to generation.

These dances were performed by Black Cubans prior to the revolution, but now it is integrated because as a "third World" country the Cubans realize that their heritage is a synthesis of Spain and Africa. T H E A F R I C A N heritage of Cuba has long been overlooked. The dances begin with Yoruba rites. There are three ballets. Then they dance the distortions of being colonized and the whole vulgar scene created by capitalism's influence. Finally they dance the Cuban freedom dance — the happy Latin American festival atmosphere -of people who finally have something to celebrate. It was the most colorful, rhythmic, exciting thing I have ever witnessed. After the last dance the entire ensemble descends into the audience and everyone is swept out of his or her seats outside. We danced around the camp for at least an hour. I couldn't believe these people. Where did they get the energy after that show to dance around that long with us? I was exhausted, but it was great fun. That following Monday started our real push for the 1,000,000 arobas of cane. It was our pledge that we would be a millionaire brigade. (There are 20 pounds to an aroba). There also started a very bad situation within the different brigades. There was hostility, open accusations of racism, and generally bad vibrations.

Florida Blacks try to form Black community By Frye Gaillard FORT LAUDERDALE ( R R R ) — Certain traits are characteristic of most slums. Streets are often pock-marked, street lights non-functional or non-existent, rats abundant, municpal services sporadic at best. But Broward County leaders — the same ones, in many cases, who opposed annex' in — also announced their ::y fervent opposition to the incorporation plan. One white leader, State Rep. Joseph Martinez, insisted that "Airicans haven't been able to govern themselves for centuries and they'll never be able to get it (the new city) off the ground." Meanwhile, the squabble over the incorporation of Tuskegee Park dragged on. Most Broward County leaders couched their objections to the new city in ostensibly nonracial terms. This remark stirred up quite a controversy and while such right-wing groups as the National States Rights Party rallied to Martinez's defense, many white leaders in the Broward area denounced him for his lack of tact if not his poor sense of history. Opponents of incorporation have contended that the region in question is a part of Fort Lauderdale's reserve area, which means the city retains the option to annex it. Attorney Allen and the other supporters of the new municipality, on the other hand, replied that the city's refusal to annex the area had robbed the "reserve area" statue of any meaning, and that incorporation should be allowed. There were some signs that Allen's view might prevail. The Florida Secretary of State's office in Tallahassee informed the St. Petersburg Times last June that it would grant the charter. Allen and others announced plans to seek Model Cities funds once Tuskegee Park became official, and they began speculating about the area's potential for progress. Then in August, according to Allen, a strange thing began to happen. City officials began talking annexation. "They had previously believed that annexing the area would be prohibitively expensive," Allen explained. "But once we outlined an approach for improving the area, city officials revised their cost estimate downward." A L L E N SAYS a meeting will be called in the near future at which leaders from Tuskegee Park area will decide whether to push for annexation or incorporation.

Dear Sir. I am a white ordained Baptist Minister, your member in this city delivers yo! aper to me each Sunday, anu been doing that for years. NOW M A Y I give my views and comments, and I do wish you would print them, so our other brothers will know. I have been in the civil rights work for twenty years, and now have the northern district of this segregated State for S.C.L.C, and what I say I know to be facts. Your papers is the only paper in the nation that prints the truth of the cruelty towards the negro in this Nation, you have the courage to speak out on the truth. You may be surprised, but millions of white people agree with you, but are afraid to speak out for fear they will be murdered. I see no hopes for this country. It has forsaken God. It started out with slavery, now it is winding up with the ghettos (let's don't fool ourselves). After being asked the question, "Why are Black minds closed or reluctant to accept white friends; inasmuch, why not remove this racial block?" I voice my opinion in this manner: OUR MINDS are closed, because we know of your false promises, inasmuch as being kept in a stage of darkness, not only because of color, but not being fully aware of our illiteracy and our ability to function or exercise our capabilities, you've never fully let up. For even after the chains were released from our ankles, you had brainwashed our parents so deeply, their ability to be released or venture

You drank milk from black breasts. You ate bread from tired, wrinkled black hands. But you refused to sit beside us. Just two would sneak Tom a book; or give J i m a pair of new plow shoes; or give Belle a new cotton frock discarded by their madam's sister, really leftovers, but reminders not to excel above being Uncle Charlie's Niggers. Still more brainwashed, but through the Supreme and undying determination, slowly but surely we became enlightened. We used muscles and blood to build. Whak The Woman in

Islam

By Mai^ary Hassain In The Name of Allah, Master Fard Muhammad, to Whom Praises are Due forever. The Woman in Islam Gives all Holy Praises to Allah (God) for His Divine Messenger Muhammad Who awakens us to the knowledge of the time and puts us into action. U N D E R Christianity, the best that we Black People could say concerning knowledge of self- is that we were classified as male and female. And with what the devil has done today, to the morals of the people under his rule, even that classification is uncertain. Their own society, their very children, are refusing to go further with them under their leadership. Only the blind Black People, who do not know the time, and 'who do not know their God' continue to look to the devil and his Black disciples for leadership. These silly, weak, Black Preachers of the devil, who pretends to listen to their 'ideas' of the problem of Black and white. Bible Dan. 11:32.. Islam

An occurence is considered miraculous when it is beyond the understanding of the minds of men. When its happening cannot be explained, it is admitted to be aided or done by some undescribable Supreme Power orwork. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad teaches us that he is the Messenger to the Black Man in America from the Supreme Power, God, Whose proper name is Allah. PEOPLE QUESTION Messenger Muhammad's Divine Leadership. They say, if he be a man of God, then show us a miracle? The Holy Qur '- an fortells of such disputes from the masses of the people who would doubt the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.'s Divine Leadership; Holy Qur - an 17:90-93: "And they say, we will by no means believe in thee, till thou cause a spring to gush forth from the arth for us, or thou have a garden of palms and grapes in tbi midst of which thou cause n . c rs to flow forth abundantly, or thou cause

see, Messenger Muhammad has long been teaching us of the Time and What Must Be Done. Now, the world can see, Bible, Dan 12:1.."...and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book The Woman In Islam, bears witness to the truth and the power of the truth, which Messenger Muhammad teaches us. The truth is truly our salvation and our strength. His Divine teachings bring the Woman in Islam into the full knowledge of who. what, where, how and #bv she is Woman. We must ^w our God, our self and or • e emy in order to follow the _dfe jourse. Messenger Muha- .mad Guides us, through this t mbled time. Bible, Dan. l.:32.... "...but the people that do know their God (the Muslims) shall be strong, and do exploits." The Woman in Islam throws her full impact, loyalty and support behind The Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the' Messenger of Allah. If you value your life and your freedom, you will do the same. Muhammad has given us the words of our national song. "We are fighting for Islam, and we will surely win." All Praises are due to Allah for Giving us His Divine Messenger and His Divine Message.

the heaven to come down upon us in pieces, as thou thinkest or bring Allah and the angels face to face (with us). Or thou have a house of gold or thou ascend into heaven, And we will not believe in thy ascending till thou bring down to us a book we can read." Open your eyes questir-and look at the followers of Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and you must agree, if you are truthful, that he is indeed a divine man who must be from God. If you want to see a miracle from Muhammad look at his followers. The Truth that he has raised hundreds and thousands, and hundreds of thousands from that lowly state of immorality, waddling in the mud of civilization (as is written in the Psalms), to a place of respect and honor and distinction, is a miracle in itself. What other man has done such great work among a people who have been down trodded for generations and centuries? To take a lowly man and clean him up in mind and body by giving him the word cf truth

By Lonnie Kashif (M.S. Washington Bureau) WASHINGTON, D.C. - The highpoint of the Muhammad University "Honor's Day Banquet" held here recently, came with the announcement that two Muslim graduates of the class of '70. have enrolled in Howard University to further their education. T H E G R A D U A T E S , Sister Alicia X Burkley and Brother James H.X McFadden thus become the first "products" of Muhammad University of Islam No. 4 to enter a local college. The occasion becomes "historic" for the Mosque as well as for a city, which less than thirty years ago ordered the arrest of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and several of his followers for seeking to establish a University of Islam for Black children.

As many of the followers of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad recall, Muslim children were taken away from their parents under court order and placed in institutions while their parents were carted off to jail. At the recent "Honor's" Banquet however, these followers sat in attendance and not only witnessed the honoring of students and their quest for higher learning, but the welcoming of five new Muslim teachers to the University of Islam staff. DR. LONNIE Shabazz, Director of the Muslim University welcomed to the staff, brothers, Neal X Somerville: Chester X Mapp; Freddie X Fletcher; and sisters. Helen X Conway and Faulkner X Waller. This brought to 15 the number of teachers and instructors presently at the university. Dr. Shabazz, who is also Minister of Mosque No. 4, also gave special recognition and praise to his full staff. These included. Sister Jessie 4X, Spanish instructor; Sister Margaret Ann X , Assistant Dean of Girls, second and third grade teacher; Sister Delia Shabazz, health instructor and school secretary; Brother Carl 4X, Asst. Principal and Language and Social Studies instructor; Sister Doris 7X, penmanship; Sister Barbara Kashif, First grade teacher, Librarian; Sister Memphis X , Dean of Girls; Captain Harrell X , Dean of boys; and Bro. Jeyonne X , Assistant Dean of Boys.

THEY CHANGE their garments in mind as well as body, to be those worthy of respect. A new man emerges. Clean. Dignified. Intelligent. Striving to improve himself and his kind from the former one of filth, degenerate, and ignorant to the knowledge of self and doing for self. H i s t o r y o f F r i s c o s c h o o l SAN FRANCISCO — It must be noted, Black children are the future of a people who have been oppressed for 400 years. The oppressors lean back in offices and dictate compromises with fancy trimmings which a reader can read as nothing but oppression. T H E B L A C K parents are learning another lesson of living in separated communities. You must control your own self determination. Teachers and students staged a strike at the dilapidated Sir Francis Drake School annex in Hunters Point. The hurry - up renovation order came as teachers and students almost unanimously boycotted classes. Only three of the staff of 35 teachers, and 14 of the 500 students, entered the school that morning.

Later on Thursday, September 10 Parents and teachers met together at the school to discuss the situation. Everyone agreed that the school must be staffed, at least, as completely as it was in June and that the physical conditions must, at least, be as good (or bad) as they were the last school year. The parents and teachers also felt that the same number of para - professionals must be at the school this year. Those present voted unanimously that a S T R I K E - BOYCOTT should take place on Monday, September 14. I F T H E S T A F F positions are restored and if repairs are made as determined by an actual inspection by a committee of parents and teachers the strike - boycott will be called off.

Teachers and about 50 parents set up picket lines outside. Pickets carried signs with such inscriptions as "We want good schools," and "Not ready". John Muir of the San Francisco Classroom Teachers Association, said an inspection yesterday showed that "deplorable" conditions still exist at Sir Francis Drake though the City had promised to make repairs.

SIR F R A N C I S Drake School annex looks more like World War I I barracks with yellow paint. John Leige, a community worker stated, "The school was out - dated and that $20,000 fund used to cover up, could of gone for a worthwhile purpose." On Tuesday, September 8, Parents and teachers went to the School District Central Office to demand that repairs be made and that the staff positions be restored. They were told by the Central Office Administration that only the counselor's position and 1/2 of the campus aides would be replaced. HIS & HERS B A R B E R

MOZAMBIQUE A German journalist, Peter Spacek who recently returned from a trip inside Mozambique with Black guerrilla organization F R E L I M O said that most of the arms that Portugal uses against the Blacks of Mozambique are supplied by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The United States, which maintains almost absolute power over NATO is joined in NATO by all of the large Western nations with the exception of France though French weapons pop up in Portuguese hands.

A list of demands were agreed upon by parents: 1. That the Annex buildings are to MMSSRSMMsmi be used only temporarily until a satisfactory solution has been determined. 2. That these temporary buildings are maintained at least at the operating level that this action has forced. 3. That the position of counselor be made permanent. 4. That the number of para professionals be restored to the level of last school year. 5. That the campus aides be re assigned immediately on an hourly per day status. 6. That the top priority for the school district must be to implement that the community - parent - teacher recommendation for the appointment of a Black male principal, and candidates for the position must be screened by the parent - teacher steering committee representatives. P H I L A D E L P H I A - There's a specter haunting America's Black communities. Once again the age of barbarian rule is at hand. And its very presence has reached none other than the city of Brotherly Love. BARBARISM, after a short hiatus (illicit but sanctioned lynchings in the fifties gave way to legalized murders — 'justifiable homicides' — in the sixties), came to the fore in 1968 when Major Daley issued his savage "shoot - to - kill" order during outbreaks on Chicago's West Side following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, J r . That very same year the neo Nazi, low - and - odor ticket of George Wallace and Curtis LeMay waged a strong candidacy for the presidency, relying on a platform of "keep the niggers down." Right wing politics surfaced in the relection of Black - hating, red - baiting Los Angeles mayor San Yorty. Inspired by these 'model' politicians, Anthony Imperiale, Newark's answer to 11 Duce, brazenly walked into Black neighborhoods with armed weapons (no doubt left over from Der Fuehrer's Third Reich), while, at the same time, flaunting his newly acquired skill in karate. P H I L A D E L P H I A N S quietly

looked the other way until one of its own professed militant allegiance to the fascist cause. Police commissioner Frank Rizzo, a distinguished "law" enforcer, recently unleashed his gestapo troops on the entire Black community, after the fatal shooting of a park district sergeant and the wounding of several other officers. The barbaric behavior of Rizzo's raiders in compelling young Black males to strip buck naked so shocked the nation's press that several papers exposed this travesty of justice, strikingly reminisicent of treatment accorded Blacks in apartheid South Africa.

S o u t h A f r i c a - s t y l e on Black organizations, such as SNCC, C O R E , RAM, etc. Significantly, as Walter Palmer, a local Black leader, noted, these raids have produced many arrests but virtually no subsequent convictions. But there is one "bust" that few Philadelphians will forget. On November 17, 1967, thousands of young Black students gathered at City Hall to demonstrate for Black

studies courses in the public schools. However, before they could exercise their constitutional right to assemble, Rizzo and his men moved in to stop the 'riot'. More than 50 Black youths were taken to jail, while hundreds of others were savagely brutalized in this vicious attack. Even conservative School Board President Richard Dilworth was angered, as he publicly blamed the police for

This new assault on Black manhood provided a fulcrum from which Rizzo could spring into national prominence and join other aspirants in the crowded, nip - and tuck struggle to become racist rhetorician of the year. Although his entry placed him somewhat behind the pace set by such wild - eyed, 'mad dog' leaders as Georgia Govenor Lester Maddox and Waukegan (111.) Mayor Robert Sabonijian. Rizzo can count many Black victims as proper credentials for his candidacy. E V E R S I N C E his arrival from the Mafia - infested South Philadelphia district, Rizzo has initiated innumerable search - and - destroy missions

touching off the trouble. W H I L E THAT day remains firmly entrenched in the minds of the people, so does their awareness of the essential criminality of Frank Rizzo. "We're dealing with a group of imbeciles and yellow dogs," he said in reference to Blacks. Then, as if taken aback by the existence of civilized men, Rizzo called for a return to barbarism when he challenged Black militants to a Wild West shoot - out: "Why don't they tell us they want to have it out? We'll meet them anytime." Just as Richard Nixon waited for the right moment to un - muzzle Spiro Agnew, Philadelphia D e m o c r a t i c Machine, under the guidance of Mayor Tate, saved Rizzo's trigger - happy remarks for the People's Constitutional Con vention. The architects of this plot to wipe out Black leadership smiled confidently while Rizzo declared his violent opposition to the assembly: ."It's sedition...It must be stopped even if we have to change some of the laws to do it." ONLY T H E intervention of U.S. District court Judge Fullam prevented Rizzo from carrying out these plans to deprive Black citizens of their civil rights. Judge Fullam issued a restraining order prohibiting the police from entering homes without warrants, or harrassing or arresting people in violation of their rights.

Maybe that's why the "Rizzo for Mayor" car stickers (more aptly termed swastikas) are disappearing as quickly as they appeared. Of course, in this age of barbarian rule it's not too far - fetched that he won't hit the campaign trail before long. After all there are many men like him in government now — at the federal, state and local levels.

Apartheid and

Zionism

By Lonnie Kashif (M.S. Washington Bureau)

Africa's Nationalist Party openly advocated adopting Hitler's methods of dealing with Jews in the 1930's and later engineered an immigration act which restricted Jews from entering the country to less than fifty per year, today's South Africa could not possibly be allied with Zionists. To the contrary however, the evolution of Zionism in South Africa, and the government's official support and approval of Israel's anti-African stance is now a well documented fact. It is true that the notorious racist Dr Hendrik F . V e r w o e r d launched his political career during the Hitler era. and once lead a delegation to Prime Minister Hertzog to ask that he refuse admission to Jewish refugees. But when Verwoerd was elected as Prime Minister in 1958 he was extended high formal congratulation from the Jewish Board of Deputies for announcing the continuation of the policies of Dr. Daniel F . Malan. and outgoing Prime Minister Strijom.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The recent fraudulent attempt by several Zionist-baiting Black political figures and "responsible" Negroes, to portray Israel as a tiny "democratic" country surrounded by vicious anti Semitic governments bent upon its destruction has now apparently countered - fired, leaving Israel exposed as an expansionist, Hitleristic state, with political and military penchants as far to the right than South Africa. MANY O F T H E Black political figures involved, either downgraded Israel's now - revealed collusion in military and economic matters with South Africa, or claimed ignorance of the fact. That silence should now exist or the issue viewed as of little account by U.S. Black "leaders" of whatever stripe negates their claim of being "responsible," or their claim represent Black people. The reluctance to equate South Africa politically with Israel some feel, comes from the notion that since South

WASHINGTON—Fourteen of the top 33 labor leaders refused to accept President Nixon's Labor Day dinner for trade union officials, it was learned recently. ACCORDING TO protocol only sickness or absence from the country would be considered a valid excuse for skipping such an occasion. But in this case Nixon's attempt to make all unionists appear to back his reactionary policies and warmongering proved to be the "excuse" many admitted for avoiding the dinner. Jerry Wurf, president of the American Federation of State, County and M u n i c i p a l Employees, not only refused to attend but attacked the administration. "I'm afraid his invitation is an effort by the White House to create the idea that the administration and the labor movement have a lot more in common than they really have." Wurf said. Wurf said that the dinner was merely a "public relations" gimmick designed to conceal policies that make the "rich richer and the poor poorer." Other trade unionists who didn't go were Paul Jennings of the International Union of E l e c t r i c a l Workers; A . F . Grospiron, Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers, and Peter Bommarito, United Rubber Workers. T H E P R E S I D E N T of the Transport Workers Union said their president had to attend the union's executive board meeting instead of the administration's dinner. Karl Feller, president of the Brewery Workers and Jacob Potofsky of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers did not attend. William Pollock, president of the Textile Workers also failed to show up. Needless to say, Leonard Woodcock of the United Auto Workers refused the invitation and many other union leaders were not invited because the White House staff knew they would not accept. • I I f

Almost a third of those who did show up were from the building trades union leadership. These men, heavily bribed - by management and various fascist agencies, are part of Spiro Agnew's chorus of war hawks. The fact that they are so close with the administration that is supposedly attacking their union racism through the widely publicized Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Seattle Plans indicates, as Muhammad Speaks has pointed out before, that the whole building trades fight for Black jobs is a phony show staged and financed by the building trades industry. Black leaders who attack the unions without tracing the racism to the industrialists are probably paid to keep their mouths shut. Why else is the job fight aimed only at an industry that is in a slump? One which is even laying off white workers?

d e a l e r s NASHVILLE (RRR) Black automobile dealers are having finanacial troubles so serious that Detroit manufacturers are having some second thoughts about their experiment in Black capitalism, according to the Wall Street Journal (Sept. 8). T W E N T Y O F the nation's 30 black dealers, upset because they felt they were getting a raw deal from Detroit, have formed the National Black Automobile Dealers Association. They feel the auto companies have not given them enough training and financial help. The Black dealers' difficulties are reported to stem from credit problems, the high cost of doing business in crime ridden neighborhoods, lack of experience and the current downturn in auto sales.

Apartheid— Zionism BOTH MALAN and Strijom, upon leaving office, had beer lauded by strong Zionist elements in South Africa. Malan's name became inscribed in South African Jewry's "Golden Book" as a contributor "to better racial understanding in South Africa — " In 1956, another Jewish group honored Malan with a silver plate as the "Moses of the Afrikaner people". Malan it is recalled, became the first Prime Minister in the British Commonwealth to pay a courtesy visit to Israel and arranged for the Jewish South African community to send heavy annual contributions and permitted the export of much needed commodities to Israel, despite financial problems in South Africa to do so. As it turned out, South African Zionists sent more money per capita to Israel "than any Jewish group in the world — far exceeding the Americans — and a higher percentage of settlers (would go) to Israel from South Africa Q U O N - T I K I

Verwoerd, as Prime Minister authorized the continued sending of more than $700,000.00 tax free annually to Israel, and among other things began appointments of high international Zionist^figures in South Africa to judicial positions. In 1959 Dr. M. Nurok, a visiting member of the Israeli parliment formally acknowledge the close South African - Israeli linkage. He said, "We are very grateful to the South African Government for the part it has played in helping Israel to attain its present status. prosecution of apartheid and merciless slaughter of Blacks continued to grow. According to Richard P. Stevens in an essay published in Beirut Lebanon, the Johnnesburg "Zionist Record" acknowledged this complicity in 1948, stating that the Jewish community was in a unique position in which "the goverment was sympathetic to (them) and harsh and discriminating against other elements in the population.. (Africans, Coloreds and Indians). Explaining why South African Zionists do not criticize white racism, the chairman of the Jewish Board of Deputies, E . J . Horwitz declared in 1951: "The South African Jewish Board of Deputies . . . is a non - political body. It acts only in matters of common concern to all Jews, and since individual Jews have diversified political opinions, the Board itself cannot adopt a party political attitude, and does not do so . state or federal who truly reflect the needs of their communities. At this point, the prospects for success of this endeavor seem promising, despite the noted lack of success of similar efforts by various ad hoc political groups of Black politicians in the past. The difference here might be

Alexander himself who has proven highly sensitive to the grass-roots thinking of the Black community. No "overnight" miracles are being predicted however by Alexander. "This is by no means a rush effort", he contends. Rather the long-view is taken and careful attention will be given to genuine financial probity.

Profiteers say saccharin safe

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Clifford L . Alexander Jr., former chairman of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunities Commission announced here recently that a nationwide organization designed to mobolize America's 14-million voting-age Blacks in support of Black candidates, is now in its formative stages. Alexander, it is recalled returned to p r i v a t e law practice after resigning as E E O C c h a i r m a n in 1969 following headline making clashes with racist c o n g r e s s m e n who ( w i t h apparent White House backing) sought to force Alexander to "go easy" on c e r t a i n m a j o r industries practicing flagrant discrimination and racism. Alexander refused and before television cameras exposed the shams of government and private industry's so-called "equal employment" programs. W h i l e not professing

political aspirations, Alexander has since become an influental figure in Black political circles, and there has been speculation that he may play some major role in the 1972 elections. The nationwide organization Alexander said, will be non partisan in nature, and will work for the election of selected Black candidates in both major parties once it gets underway. In addition, the organization will provide voters with pertinent information on nonBlack politicians and political developments, and bring to their attention important

WASHINGTON The artificial sweetener named saccharin has been determined to be safe; that is, according to a special group of U.S. government science advisers.

Clifford Alexander Alexander, who has agreed to serve as coordinator appears highly concerned with the legitimate financing and proper handling of the funds of the organization. He told Muhammad Speaks that this would be a subject of delicate scrutiny. "It will be set up in a fashion so that ever}7 penny will be accounted for and the public will be given an understanding as to where funds will be going.'' THE SELECTION of candidates to support will be done on the basis of careful consideration of the needs of the communities. But the government study group dismissed the experiments on rats, and instead based its conclusion that saccharin is safe on an "80year history of saccharin use by man without evidence of adverse effects." Articulating the twisted logic of U.S. governmental servants of the military industrial complex, the study group's statement read in part: "Generally these experimental methods which didn't involve oral administration were considered inappropriate indices to cancer - inducing properties of saccharin." But the FDA Commissioner himself, Charles Edwards, didn't completely endorse the government study group's findings, but rather said "the report and the recommendations for further research will be reviewed in detail by top F D A staff and advisers."

The statement said that "an important group of hijackers is composed of members of the CIA trying to infiltrate the country. The CIA is responsible for a good number of the hijackings that have so

alarmed world public opinion." Another group easily uncovered by Cuban security forces was described as "common criminals, given to vice, mentally unbalanced, socially unfit, exhibitionists or (those) propelled by simple personal motives." Only a minority of hijackers leave the USA because they find themselves seriously threatened with political oppression, Prensa Latina said. This type of hijacker, once it is proved that he needs political asylum, is released from custody and allowed to live and work in Cuba.

objective observer to the inescapable conclusion that nothing can be effectively resolved for any duration in the Middle East crisis unless it has an international guarantee. Neither East (United Arab Republic or the Soviet Union) or West (U.S.A. will allow it to be otherwise.)

AMMAN, JORDAN Although King Hussein has won a momentary edge over the Fedayeen, his days of King of this sad country are numbered. The slaughter of up to 20,000 people in the civil war makes Hussein undisputedly a marked man.

In all of this the role of UAR is the one to watch carefully. With the help of the Soviet Union, the late President Nasser installed an effective air missile defense system. The U A R is also developing political, economic and defensive bonds with the Sudan and Libya which is the beginning of a new powerful and progressive force in Northern Africa.

IN T H E PAST, the King's forces have used alleged assassination attempts on his life as excuses to bombard Palestinian Refugee Camps and stronghold. Top Palestine Commando leaders told this MS correspondent, during his one month fact-finding tour of Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt, that "we can knock-off the King anytime and anyplace we desire."

The man who nationalized the Suez Canal points used to point with pride to the High Dam at Aswan. UAR, which is truly one of the modern wonders of the world.

There is little question that there can be no peace in the Middle East without resolution of the Palestinian problem. I saw firsthand refugee camps in the miserable condition under which both the Palestinian and more recent refugees from other occupied Arab lands suffer. I also became convinced of the unrelenting determination of these people to fight to regain their homelands. Yet an emotionless evaluation of realities leads an

After Western powers reneged on loans, the U A R turned to the USSR and received both money and engineers to complete this ambitious project. Today, the High Dam channels the waters of the Nile River presenting floods and expanding irrigation and providing electricity for all kinds of industrial production. Some . more preliminary observations and contentions, which will all receive further elaboration and exploration in the future MS articles: Israel cannot remain as Israel, that is as the Zionist State is today. As an imperalist and expansionist buffer state it faces growing contradictions internally and e x t e r n a l l y in its Middle Eastern locale. Jordan is an "unrealistic nation" and connot continue to exist in its present form. Carved out by British Colonialist, today it has a population which is 60 per cent Palestinian.

Last but most significant, everywhere I travelled in the Middle East Muslims, governmental and religious leaders expressed their admiration for their regards to Messenger Elijah Muhammad.

THIS R A T I O N A L E for U.S. invasions of foreign countries has been a standard excuse for U.S. warmongers since 1789 when the U.S. engaged in an "undeclared naval war" with France over contested land areas in the Dominican Republic. According to the Committee on Foreign Affairs documented history of U.S. "armed actions" taken without a declaration of war, there have been "a total of 137 such actions." Robert W. Russell, compiled a longer list of the uses of American military fqrce abroad from 1789-1967 "which has 144 entries. A brief survey of these actions calls into question immediately U.S. claims of "peace loving" that of being soley interested in "securing the interest" of the U.S.A. According to Article IV of the report issued by the Committee on Foreign Affairs for the Subcommittee on National Security Policy, "The

number of troops involved in these incidents of the application of military force varies greatly. "They range from a few sailors or marines landed to protect U.S. lives and property, to hundreds of thousands in Viet Nam" "INVASIONS were undertaken under the pretext of "protection of lives and property; defense against invasion or threats to National Safety; and protection of National interest, and support of U.S. foreign Policy," the report revealed. All such pretexts were given "constitutional" authenticy. Of "Major" armed actions overseas, the Committee report listed only five: the War of 1812 (2) Mexican War, 1846 (3) Spanish- American War, 1898 (4) World War I, and (5) World War I I . These were called "declared wars." A longer list of "Other actions" included the 1798 naval war with France, supposedly to "protect

American merchant ships"; the War with Tripoli in 1801 over "piracy"; the Barbary War against the Dey of Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli; hostilities with Mexico in 1914 which included the occupation of Vera Cruz "ostensibly for the failure of the Mexicans to fire a 21 gun salute to the American flag." "ACTIONS" O F T H E last two decades include Korea (1950-53) Landing of troops in Lebanon in 1958; Thailand (1961), Dominican Republic (1965); Viet Nam(1964Present); and Cambodia (1970).

NEW D E L H I - Indian land reforms provide that no more than 30 acres of land shall be held by any one person. But because they control the ruling Congress Party with financial support, India's rich landowning class has been able to subvert the land reform laws to monumental disproportions. SOME O F T H E methods they use to subvert the 30acres law are: spreading titles to 30 acres a piece among different members of the

family; using strangers from different cities and paying them a small fee to place their names on titles; the ruling Congress party simply looks the other way when the landowners commit such deeds.

THIS IS WHAT WE WANT TO BUILD ON THE SITE WHEREVER WE CAN PURCHASE IT:

(

islamic ULniversitp P R O F I L E AND P U R P O S E T H E F A C T THAT ISLAMIC U N I V E R S I T Y is founded by The Honorable Elijah Muhammad, through the guidance of Allah, holds bright promise for all young black students. The great urgency and need forced upon Messenger Muhammad to build this center is due to the ignorancy and lack of self knowledge of his people and others, that he thinks will go a long way towards better understanding and relations between the Nations of the earth. THIS U N I V E R S I T Y ' S I D E A S AND HOPES are to use scholars and scientists of all nationalities. This idea of Messenger Muhammad's of a university of this type is one that all Nations and races would agree with Messenger Muhammad on the necessity of such a center for his people. T H E B A S E O F T H E T E A C H I N G of the University is the knowledge of self and others and self respect and respect for others.

THIS C E N T E R IS D E S I G N E D TO house 10,000 (ten thousand) students of girls and boys and middle aged and aged people who want to be educated. It is designed also for a hospital, technology college, and a childrens' hospital and nursery. This would release—says Messenger Muhammad—some of the burdens of the white people's institutions of this kind for our patients. But, Messenger Muhammad believes that the white people should aid him, financially, to build such an institution as he and his people are poor and would not be able to do so; or anyone who has sympathy for us to do something for self, throughout the world; we would accept it.

SOME O F T H E C O U R S E S of Messenger Muhammad for the University are as follows: CHRONOLOGIC HISTORY (Of self and others) TECHNOLOGY Construction Engineering Civil Engineering Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering

ASTRONOMY LANGUAGES So that the students of the University may be able to converse in the language of the people as the colleges, universities, and institutions of other Nations have provided this means of learning other languages so that we can converse with them in their own language. SCIENCE Of the beginning of education of the people of earth. MATHEMATICS The science and origin of mathematics. RELIGION The various origins of religions and why Islam.

MEDICINE Students will be under the most highly learned doctors that the institution can acquire. HEALTH We must have these such courses, and the study of drugs, as Messenger Muhammad teaches against drugs for our health, that we might learn to live according to the law of nature. For these courses, Messenger Muhammad desires the best doctors obtainable. SUCH COURSES will be able to aid the black man in a better educational understanding between Nation and Nation.

FURTHER IDEAS OF MESSENGER MUHAMMAD O F AN EDUCATIONAL C E N T E R FOR HIS P E O P L E : This University, Educational Center, is being designed, not to disgrace Chicago and its people, but to increase the beauty of Chicago and its people. Messenger Muhammad desires to purchase the last highrise, where many of his people are now lodging, and then build the dropoff to these highrises, that must taper off to taller buildings of this new ground of an Educational Center. T H E T A L L E S T B U I L D I N G , that is his idea to build on this ground, should taper off from the highrises. There will be no building of Messenger Muhammad's that will reach over seven stories. His greatest desire is to buy the last highrise building, of which the estimated cost is not yet known. He has, however, heard that the owners would sell.

THIS W I L L G I V E T H E Islamic People one tall building beside Chicago's highrises, so that the drop-off of taller buildings will be shared by both the University of Islam and the now Chicago highrise building.

M E S S E N G E R MUHAMMAD WANTS TO make such a beautiful site that people coming into the U.S.A., whether by land, sea, or air, would admire it. As you may know. Messenger Muhammad in his dealings now with slums; he erases them and puts beautiful buildings there. He hopes to do this, not only on this site but throughout the southside of Chicago. Messenger Muhammad, according to his ideas given to me, is to make this southside of Chicago a more respectful and civilized area than ever before since the building of Chicago.

Naturally, it is understood, that we will follow building codes of the city that are binding upon all builders who build in the area of Chicago.

T H E MONEY TO B E R A I S E D for this purpose runs beyond $50,000,000.00 (Fifty Million Dollars). And, he is trying, now and hoping with the good promise of financial people of the country, to aid

him in doing this work on this site in Chicago and America, which will give better relations for America and the world.

FARMING-Messenger Muhammad is now trying to contact the best agricultural teachers that he can find, that he may be able to produce the better crops, baring food for people, animals, and fowl. One of the greatest programs of Messenger Muhammad is better housing conditions for the Southern Black farmers, which demands quite a bit of money; and to teach the Southern Black People how to respect self and others — to re educate the South, out of ignorance and into a civilized and decent way of life. MESSENGER MUHAMMAD FURTHER B E L I E V E S that America, as wise as she is and as rich as she is, will agree with him after a knowledge of the truth of his plans for a better people, that he needs finance to aid him. This would come back to them plentifully. All students of this University will pay a certain fee that they are able to pay (which we do not put here in writing because we have not taken a census of the students who can pay and those who cannot pay). But, in this institution, everyone must be able to pay something for their learning. The exact figures will come later for the students' fees. M E S S E N G E R MUHAMMAD IS DEMANDING MILLIONS of dollars that only powerful, rich financial companies and governments could supply. And, the writer hopes that you will supply Messenger Muhammad with his needs. Messenger Muhammad says that no financial backer of his work could ever lose, for God Himself is behind him and certainly will bless the one who finances him with tremendous success in this life and the Hereafter as well.

M E S S E N G E R MUHAMMAD N E E D S LOANS of several millions of dollars to finance the city programs of Chicago and other cities wherein Islam is suffering for financial aid and throughout the South where he is trying to purchase farm land to raise food for the Black Man and White, if White needs it. He is also teaching the Black People against laziness and to do something for self instead of begging the White Man.

SO, H E IS S E E K I N G FINANCIAL H E L P and believes that he can pay on this kind of help under reasonable said terms of the financier. TO G I V E M E S S E N G E R MUHAMMAD'S AIMS in a few words; It is to better the condition and relationship of the Black Man here in America.

I THANK Y O U for reading the ideas and intentions of Messenger Muhammad lor an EDUCATIONAL C E N T E R — as he has given to me here to convey to you — on this site.
