In defense of righteousness Statisticians have probably figured the percentages/but it can safely be said, than among the millions of people who are born each and every day, only a literal handful ever become truly great men and women.

Most of us dream of great victories, great successes and great accomplishments, but most of us are forced to act those dreams out only within our fantasies.

Regretfully, most Black people, when traveling from places li.ke Philadelphia to Los Angeles, or from Chicago to New York will go ire-m South Street in the South Philly ghetto, to Central Avenue in Watts, or from 47th St. on the South Side, to 125th St. in Harlem — with no stops il3 between.

Most Black people, who have not been taught civilization and refinement, will feel quite uncomfortable and out of place if they are forced to transact some of the business they are accustomed to transacting with "home folks" with anyone else, anywhere else.

And if, perchance, we are patronized by do-gooders who build us a community center, or a housing project, it will not take us long to "modify" the building , to typical ghetto standards.

These are not extreme cases, but are rather typical cases. No building contractors which I know of have sign painters who will paint obscenities on the walls, so we make those modifications ourselves. No reputable furniture companies which I know of, can or will furnish an apartment with dirt, roaches, any peculiar briny smells — s6 we must furnish such additions ourselves.

Scorched earth' policy, a failure

Mediocrity and moderation are the results of moderate, mediocre ways of thinking which are characterized by a liberal use of words like "can't", "won't", "couldn't." and "wouldn't."

Surprisingly, the Israeli killing, destruction and attempt to turn green Southern Lebanon into a dessert have strengthened the villigers' active support and solidarity with their Palestinian brethren.

Another target of destruction by the Israeli Army, which has always behaved as ancient savage tribes which spread death everywhere, was the beautiful city of Kuneitrah. Prior to the 1967 Israeli-imperialist aggression, this city of 60.000 was the thriving capital and commercial center of the Golan region.

The June '67 and Oct. '73 wars resulted in the damage of 20 per cent of the city. Kuneitrah was 80 per cent intact as of five days before the Israeli evacuation in accordance with the agreement reached by Kissinger. Five days later, when the Syrian population, who were so eager to return to their homes that they had to be restrained by the United Nations forces, the city looked like the valley of death.

THE E N T I R E CITY was flattened by Israeli bulldozers. The fertile fields were blackened from chemicals and phosphorus bombs. The trees were leafless and charred. All civilian facilities and all means of livelihood were wiped out. Even the water storage facilities were completely demolished.

The Syrian residents of Kuneitrah returned in bitterness to their refugee camps in Damascus.

There at least, they have tents which could serve as a shelter.

And yet the majority of the people in the U.S. wonders what makes an oppressed Arab a socalled terrorist! They often ask why does an Arab join the Fedaeyyeen (men and women of sacrifice) movement? Ironically, not only do they not know, but they do not really care!

Those who know and care are the ones who have experienced oppression, homelessness and hunger.

Muhammad in Jamaica The teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, were articulated beautifully on this Caribbean island recently by Minister Jam Muhammad, brother of the Messenger, as he addressed a capacity crowd.

Minister Muhammad was introduced by Minister Eugene X , minister of Muhammad's Temple in Kingston, who himself is a powerful speaker on the subject of the Last Messenger of Allah, and was received with enthusiasm and warmth by a capacity crowd.

Minister Muhammad's subjects were concerned with unity for the Black man, oneness with Allah, and the history of the Caucasian.

During the minister's delivery, many bursts of applause were heard from the Black-starved audience and many shouts of approval bore witness that the teachings of Messenger Muhammad are welcomed wherever the Black man is found.

More than 80 persons accepted Islam after hearing Minister Muhammad's roaring message.

Minister Eugene said this tremendous reaction was proof that "the most Honorable Elijah Muhammad is very much loved in Jamaica. Once again it has been shown.'' he said, "that every Black, man, woman and child all over the world would be receptive to the lifesustaining teachings of the Messenger if they could be reached."

A large number of F.O.I, and M.G.T. were on hand to greet the brother of Messenger Muhammad, and Minister Muhammad was asked to return the Greetings to our Dear Holy Apostle.

Minister Muhammad was asked to make a return trip to Jamaica with more teachings and wisdom as soon as possible.

The great and overwhelming response that greeted Minister Muhammad cnly bears witness, that the wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad is indeed, unlimited and that it issues from Almighty God Allah, who came in the Person of Master Fard Muhammad to whom ail Holy Praises are due.

WARNING To you Innocent People who willingly give your money to strangers soliciting money for hospitals and other drives that we have.

Your money falls into the hands of enemies and hypocrites that take your cash money and use it for themselves.

So, I think you should be careful about who you give your money to.

Some of them will make out false cards — pay no attention to it because we have not made out any cards to give to the public. Don't give your money like that.

Go to the Temple (the nearby Temple of ours) and give your money to the secretary there and get a receipt from him or her.

T h e only news for Black people today

They refer to reportage of the various things happening to Black people and activities engaged in by Black people.

There is a trite saying in journalism that "when a dog bites a man, that's not news; but when a man bites a dog, it is news."

Outside of the Nation of Islam and the activities of its members under the leadership of the Honorable E l i j a h Muhammad, everything else that Black people are engaged in is old and non-productive toward freedom, justice, and equality or liberation as it js popular now to say.

Some Black intellectuals have discovered MarxismLeninism—the philosophy expounded by the 19th century m i d d l e c l a s s J e w and advocated by the Russian V . I .

Lenin during and after the Russian Revolution cf 1917.

But that is not new—Black i n t e l l e c t u a l s tried that doctrine in the 20's. 30's, 40's., 50's, and 60's and found it,an unfruitful guide for Black

people in America.

White people have permitted some 2,991 Blacks to be elected to various political offices, and now there is a great push to put more Blacks into office. But it is forgotten that during Reconstruction there were Blacks in Congress and in several Southern legislatures' as well as, governor's offices, but that did not free the Black man.

Now, also, there is an attempt to renew the infamous campaign of forcing white people to employ, live next to, go to school with, and marry Blacks—with the renewal of the Civil Rights Movement.

Some have also discovered Pan-Africanism that Blacks originated in the early part of the century. Blacks in Africa are still not free and the attempts by Blacks in America to vicariously engage in the African struggle w h i l e ignoring the true program inAmerica will do them no good.

So, w h y s h o u l d not Muhammad Speaks write of the works of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad to employ, feed, clothe, educate shelter, reform, and liberate Black people. That is news because no one else has, is or shows any potential to do it in the future.

Great love for the Messenger

He is the most loving man in the whole world! The Messenger of Allah has worked so hard for the Black man and woman for 43 years.

You know He is a God-sent Messenger. He loves us; don't we love Him? Yes, we do, so lets show Him we do! It is time that we do something for Him. A J E T ! A J E T ! All Praises are due to Allah for this golden opportunity to do something for our Divine leader.

He has opened our eyes to see, our ears to hear and given us the knowledge of our Black selves.

Messenger Elijah Muhammad is raising up a Nation. The Black man and woman will obey. Come to Islam!

Help Him if you love Him. He should have had a jet long ago for His work.

He works night and day for us; sick or well. All Praises are due to Allah for the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the greatest man that the world has ever known. He can change a man to be a man, and a woman to be the best, if you obey Him, and pray to Allah for guidance and understanding.

As the Messenger says, we are living in the Last Days and the worst is yet to come. The Messenger knows just what He is saying. You see how the white mans' United States is falling apart! Just look at the White House — and look at the Nation qf Islam. We are rising! All Praises are due to Allah for loving we. the Lost-Founds, so dearly that He gave us a Divine .Messenger: the last and greatest.

We are a blessed people. He is teaching ministers all over the world from the words that Allah taught Him. If they take it and teach Islam, we will get on top as He says, overnight. But Allah taught only One and that One is the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

Tennessee Muslims perform miracuiou&> renovation of 'hopeless' slum building

NASHVILLE, T E N N . - - On a cold-wintry night in February this year while thousands of Blacks slept in the comforts of their Nashville homes the Muslims were busily evacuating by order their rented Temple and moving into a dilapidated-empty building on the Northside in a slum area.

T H E N E X T DAY, February 26, Minister Earl X stood post in the isle directly in front of the oodium w h e r e the Honorable Elijah Muhammad delivered His national Saviour's Day Address, while the other Muslims from Nashville mixed in with thousands of believers in the Chicago.armory.

But for these few muslims, who had travelled to Chicago from the hills of Tennessee they knew they had to return to a formidable task. They had to build a Temple in the midst of ruins of a building that had been vacated five years ago.

When the Muslims attempted to purchase the building they were holding meetings in. the owner not only refused their offer but ordered them out.

The Nashville Commercial Banks closed their ears to M u s l i m s efforts for an emergency loan.

Through an intensive search at the last minute Min. E a r l X found an abandoned building hidden by high grass on Batavia Street in the midst of the largest Black Section in town that sits near Fisk University and Meharry Campuses.

All the windows of the deserted buildings were broken out, dust and spider webs had accumulated from ceiling to floors, paint had disappeared in the winds of time. Rats and roaches had long left the building when the food disappeared making way for bats. Outside the building high weeds grew, hiding rocks, sticks and broken glass that covered the land area.

It was so cold that the Muslims were unable to put any window panes in and over 400 were missing. In addition, the building was not heated.

But Min. Earl and the Muslims of Temple No. 60 were evermindful of the long years of suffering in the 30's when Messenger Muhammad roamed the streets of white

America in an effort to spread the cause of Islam. Thus, they took their challenge in stride.

T H E BUILDING once housed the N a s h v i l l e C h r i s t i a n Institute, built nearly 16 years ago at a cost of $260,000. The appraised value was as high as $500,000 at one time, not including the land.

The Muslims went to work cutting grass, clearing debris from the land, digging, cleaning, dusting, nailing, sweeping, mopping, washing, repairing, wiring, cementing, etc. They did everything except install the telephone.

THEY PERFORMED a miracle with the large threelevel building. The structure cost the Muslims $75,000 and its value now. after 7 months of labor and sweat is estimated at $500,000 w i t h the f i n a l appraisal expected to be approximately $750,000.

Black psychologists honor Muhammad's work: For 43 years of dedication

NASHVILLE, TENN. - On the jacket covering of the great book "Message To The Blackman" — Jet Magazine in the mid-1960s called the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, a "Master Psychologist." In t h i s , the mid-1970s in Nashville, Tenn., the National A s s o c i a t i o n of B l a c k Psychologists (NABP) honored the H o n o r a b l e Messenger of Allah, Elijah Muhammad, for His Divine works.

MINISTER LOUIS Farrakhan, national spokesman for the Nation of Islam, accepted the award on b e h a l f of Messenger Muhammad which read: " F o r

Following acceptance of the award, Min. Farrakhan said.

UNITED NATIONS - The Security Council has unanimously recommended the admission of GuineaBissau to United Nations membership. It now remains for the General Assembly to act on admission when it opens sessions on September 17.

GUINEA-BISSAU, a West African country of about 600.000 people, which declared its independence from Portugal last September, has already been recognized by some 90 nations. Last August 26, Portugal signed in Algiers an independence treaty with the liberation forces of the A f r i c a n P a r t y for the Independence of Guinea and the Cape Verde Islands (PAIGC).

LOS A N G E L E S - The Fruit of Islam (F.O.I.), of Temple No. 27 and surrounding areas recently were honored to receive and host one of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad's chief aides, Captain Raymond Sharrieff, Supreme Captain of the Nation of Islam.

BY SPECIAL invitation from the administrative staff of Muhammad's Temple No. 27. the Supreme Captain was on hand at a recently held F.O.I, class to spark an all -out drive on the West Coast.

The d r i v e , conducted concurrently throughout the Nation of Islam, is threefold: to increase the distribution of Whiting H & G, imported by the H o n o r a b l e Elijah Muhammad to feed hungry Black people; to also increase the sales of Muhammad Speaks newspaper, which represents spiritual food to the Black man-in-the-streets; and finally, to raise funds to complete the purchase of a jet for the Honorable E l i j a h Muhammad, which will enable Him to travel about the country in comfort while fulfilling His Divine mission.

Some teachers asked if they would have classes of new-born babies, others if they were expected to be nurses instead of educators.

A few even inquired if they were to give toilet training in the new curriculum.

The Peruvian Government soon showed it was no joke, but a policy to be applied in earnest, as p a r t of a deliberate strategy to wrest power from the landed oligarchy of that time, and place it in the hands of the people, creating a more egalitarian society.

You see, I am a witnessbearer of just how dedicated a Black doctor is. At the age of 15 (in 1949) while hitchhiking through a remote section of Georgia, I was stopped, and forced to work at a saw-mill.

After about four days, I accidentally cut my hand "real bad" on a button saw. and had to be taken some 12 miles, to a hospital where I was told by the doctors that two of my fingers on my right hand would have to be taken off.

CHICAGO — Most Black financial institutions are hurt by massive individual and cooporate withdrawals that are symptomatic of current United States economic troubles, but the Guaranty Bank and Trust Company, the banking institution for the N a t i o n of I s l a m , is experiencing just the reverse of prevailing economic trends.

OSCAR WILLIAMS, president of Guaranty Bank said. "Because we are who we are (Bank of the Nation of Islam), we are immune to many of the negative economic patterns."

Struggling with a disproportionate share of the rising unemployment, rising costs and dwindling incomes, Blacks are forced to decrease deposits in the local Black financial institutions, and also frequently to make sizable withdrawals.

Edward Ballard, president of the Bank of Finance in Los Angeles said a decrease in deposits, which comprise 90 per cent of the bank's assets, recently forced personnel cuts of 14 Black employees.

A M E R I C A S E E M S to be the answer to many of the Bible's and the Holy Qur'an's prophecies. In Jeremiah 51:9, it mentions in ancient Babylon's history, that she could have been healed, but was not; for her wickedness was such that she could not be healed or forgiven.

ANCIENT BABYLON'S charges, according to her history, was that she prosecuted and imprisoned the Jews. She brought them into captivity from Jerusalem after the taking of Jerusalem

by Nebuchadnezzar.

According to the ancient history of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar also was punished for his part in the enslaving of the Jews. Among the Jews whom King Nebuchadnezzar had in captivity was a prophet .of Israel named Daniel.

The kfng DID NOT L O V E D A N I E L and his prophethood, but he was able to get Allah's prophecy of the destruction of Babylon from Daniel. But remember, the king S T I L L H E L D D A N I E L as a slave and a prisoner with the other common Jews.

Under King Belshazzar, Daniel was still alive and was used for the revealing of God's Aims and Purposes against Babylon.

A F T E R STUDYING the destruction of ancient Babylon, under these two kings, we have a very good graphic picture pointing to a future people, cities and country.

The words "she could have been healed, but she was not healed" does not say why she was not healed. Was there a possible chance of the Babylonians being forgiven for the evils done to the Jews and the sacking of Jerusalem and the destruction of their temples, and the bringing out of her temples, sacred v e s s e l s to use for sport under Belshazzar's reign?

COULD THIS C R I M E be forgiven of the Babylonians? And, if she was not forgiven while she could have been, what does this teach us?

Is it not that the history of ancient Babylon's evils not being forgiven a sign that a future people's evil, of an enslavement of God's people (the American so-called Negro), will not be forgiven? Yet, there may be a chance that they be forgiven, as Babylon had, but they will not do that which God desires they do, that He may pardon them and forgive them and prolong their time.

The Revelations of John prophecies that T H E Y R E P E N T E D NOT of their

evil deeds and blasphemed the very Name of God (Revelations 16:9).

T H E R E F O R E , when a man is guilty of a very great evil done against the cause of God and His people, he cannot be forgiven unless he seeks forgiveness himself.

We see this in the working of the fall of America today. I say fall, for most surely this is the Divine fall of America: as it was of ancient Babylon for their evils done to the Jews.

A M E R I C A DOES NOT want to repent of her evil done to her Black slaves even to this late day. I have given her a right chance on the back page of this paper.

But she does not want to do justice by her free slaves to get an extension of time from Allah.

SHE SHOULD F R E E the slaves, indeed. The ignorant ones want to stay with her just because they are too lazy to accept their own responsibilities. They are too much in love with the un-alike of white people who have attracted them to such an extent that they have become a charm, and they want to remain with their white masters even if they are just given food and shelter.

This type of people are not wanted by any nation. No nation wants slaves on the basis of taking the responsibility to care for them, when they can care for themselves!

The American Black once-slaves for 400 years have now become a free proud slave, and a lover of the children of the once slave-masters.

T H E R E F U S A L of white America to do something about justice for her so-called free slaves is bringing her into the same type of Judgment that God brought upon ancient Babylon.

Jeremiah 51:45 makes mention of a warning to the people of God to flee out of Babylon. Could this be referring to the captive Jews in ancient Babylon?

If God called the ancient Jews His people it was for a sign of a future people — the so-called American Negro — that He would choose to call His people.

T H E B L A C K P E O P L E in America today are called by God Himself, His Chosen People; the Black once-slaves, Chosen for Himself to build a new government based upon Truth, Freedom, Justice and Equality.

This type of government is to live forever and never to be removed from the people, according to Daniel's prophecy of a Kingdom of God set up in the last days, the governing of which will not be left to the people: GOD H I M S E L F will be the head and the ruler.

In ancient Babylon's history, the enslaved Jews were ordered to flee out of the midst of her, and be delivered, every man his soul from the fierce anger of the Lord (Jeremiah 51:45).

T H E LAST BOOK of the Bible, the Revelations of John 18:4, makes this a little clearer. Both prophecies are similar but the one in Revelations is warning a people to flee out of Babylon that they "be not partakers of the sins" of Babylon's people and receive not of her plagues.

This shows that God is going to plague Babylon, and that His people should not suffer the Divine plagues sent upon Babylon. They are ordered to flee out of her (Jeremiah 51:45). This is a prophecy of a future Babylon, similar to the ancient Babylon under the rule of Nebuchadnezzar, and Belshazzar.

The history of these two ancient kings of ancient Babylon teaches us that they held slaves who were trying to serve the right God. AS I T IS W R I T T E N of Allah, in the person of Master Fard Muhammad to whom Praises are due forever, that He would be very angry on His coming to the deliverance of the Lost and Found members of His people (Black people) from a 400-year-old enemy who has never shown them anything but evil, murder and death.

And as I know to be the truth, Allah desires nothing more than Freedom, Justice, and Equality for we, the once Lost and now Found, Black members of our Nation, the Original Black Nation of the Earth.

America now is at war with God through God's people (the so-called Negro). The confusion, and the plagues of the country with disasters one after another are D I V I N E R E T A L I A T I O N S against white America's evil doing and intentions; against her evil deceitful way of deceiving them by showing false friendship and even opening her homes to integrate the people of God with them, who by nature are different or foreign to them.

The white man has poisoned our people's (Black) minds so thoroughly that our people fight against their own God and salvation for favoritism of their open enemies.

T H E C A L L OF ISLAM, the True Religion of God, to we the once • slaves of America is the same call for us to flee out of the American way of life and doings of evil to save our lives from Divine destruction of a non-repentive enemy (Jeremiah51:45).

D I V I N E P L A G U E S and foreign wars are now destroying the American standards of life and money for her deceitful filthy temptations, now being played on her once-slaves, and the world, to make the once-slave an enemy of his God and his own salvation — by taking part wita them against the aims and purpose of Allah (to set this so-called Negro in heaven while they live).

America is mentioned in Isaiah 47:1 as a "virgin daughter" of ancient Babylon's people and history. As we all know, America is the last, the greatest, the richest and most powerful people of the European white nations. But now she is falling and the prophet Isaiah says: "Come and sit down in the dust, humble yourself for you are no more called delicate.".

T H E F I L T H Y DISPLAY of white Christian American people, walking around half nude and sitting before their pastors in their churches with dresses half way to their thighs for the pastors to stare at their nude forms — the pastors should be standing at the door telling such disgracefully dressed persons that he preaches the Word of God and that God warns us to be clean, both I N T E R N A L L Y AND E X T E R N A L L Y , as well, and that we should not tempt the nations to do evil and filth.

But the pastor opens his church doors and is happy to have them in rows sitting before his eyes, knowing that this is against the teachings of God and turning his house of God into the worship of filth and evil. Can the church survive? Can Christianity survive these days of DIVINE J U D G M E N T against America?

The Revelations say in a prophecy relating to America that she had in her a "hold for every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful b i r d " (Revelations 18:2).

A L L H A T E F U L P E O P L E have a haven in America. All filthy and unclean people have a high place in America.

Though the scientist and scholars of the religion of Christianity know these words to be true, they desire yet to see the alrecuv made: blind, deaf, and dumb socalled Negro go to their doom with them.

But they tempt the so-called Negro, since the scientist and scholars are evil by nature. The Holy Qur'an teaches that they only lead vou to filth and evil.

E V E R Y HOUR in the day and night people are being murdered and killed in America, throughout her cities and highways. Murdering and killing is the order of today in America.

It mentions that God used a destroying wind (Jeremiah 51:1) against those who opposed His Purpose and Aims. Is not it true that day and night somewhere in America there are destructive tornadoes and storms, destroying the property and lives of America?

AS GOD HAS SAID that He Laid a Snare for ancient Babylon (Jeremiah 50:24) and ancient Babylon was taken in that snare, so it is in America.

Go to "sleep" to the reality of the judgment of America if you want to be caught in the snare; for America's judgment is a repetition of ancient Babylon's judgment.

Long before America ever thought that she should repent of her evil done to her slaves; or reject repentance — God hath set the snare to catch America.

Under the Divine leadership and direction of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the rig pulled into what is referred to as the "mile high city" loaded with thousands of pounds of Whiting H & G (Headed and Gutted) imported fish.

The Whiting H & G fish is imported from the unpolluted waters of Peru for Black people here and across the country.

As the F.O.I. (Fruit of Islam* worked harmoniously unloading the fish under the supervision of the local representative of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Black community looked on in astonishment.

The sight of such an accomplishment—the 20,000 pounds of low cost, high protein fish—inspired many to comment that the work of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad cannot be placed into the categories of ordinary men.

Israel stockpiling A-bombs

LIDINGO, SWEDEN - While the Israeli Government has never denied nor admitted that sh< has a military capacity, that she has stockpiled atomic bombs is very certain.

THIS HAS NOT been denied by the embassies of Israel in Europe and Scandinavia, and official statements on the issue are bland and diplomatically limited to an insistence that^ Israel would not, and will never be the first to use atomic weapons in a conflict.

But even this statement has signified to the West, the Kremlin, and especially to Israel's neighbors, the V states, that Israel would r caught empty - handed . it came to the nuclear crunch.

Israel's first step to joining the "Nuclear Club" was taken n 1956 when a secret deal with France gave Tel Aviv access to /ital plutonium, and help in )uilding a nuclear reactor.

Black t.v. newsman asserts 'willingness to sacrifice' reason for his success JSews show anchor man once had to work for no pay

C H I C A G O - U n t i l some years ago, the sight of a Black face on television brought the whole Black family scurrying to the t.v. room to witness this rare sight. Today, however, Black Americans are much more accustomed to the sight of other dusky faces on the television screen.

SOME OF THESE televised Black faces are seen regularly, in the roles of newscasters. In Chicago, one of these t.v. reporters is Robert (Bob) Petty of WLS-TV, an ABCowned and operated station.

Petty is in his third year with Channel 7, and speaks fondly of his work: "I've been having a good time on t.v. doing what I do."

He is usually seen on t.v. several times during the weekday, beginning early in the morning. He also has a five minute radio program called "Your Comment." which is aired on some Black oriented radio stations. The program deals with "issues which affect Black people." Petty explains.

R O B E R T ANTHONY Petty was born in Memphis, Tenn., on Nov. 26. 1940. and his family remained there until he was 4years -old.

The Petty family then moved to the small town called Caruthersville. Mo., where the four Petty brothers spent most of their early years. Their father died when they were young, and therefore it was left to their mother to raise the four boys. To support her family, she worked as a domestic, in restaurants, and even as a field-hand.

Petty describes himself in his boyhood: " I was a problem child." For one thing, he said he was restless. " I have a lot of gypsy in me," he said.

He speaks of his childhood as being that of a "typical American Black boy growing up in a small town with a Southern flavor."

B Y T H E T I M E he entered high school, P e t t y had discovered something about himself: " I had the ability to retain facts."

T h i s g i f t p r o v e s an advantage in his work today. " I n high school I never had to study," he recalls, adding, " I was usually on the honor roll."

When it was time for college.

Bob went to Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., and majored in mathematics. He eventually left Lincoln and graduated from Arizona State University, having majored in radio and t.v. productions.

In 1965, Bob married Cora Jones in Phoenix, Ariz, and today they have two children and live in Chicago's Hyde Park.

"I've always been interested in television, radio, and the movies," Petty explained. So, it didn't take much to distract him from his work as a sales manager and assistant store manager in 1967, to work as a volunteer at an educational station, K A E T - T V in Tempe, Ariz. After working for them for a number of weeks on that basis, he was placed on the payroll.

He did "any number of jobs.

I was a carpenter when they needed a carpenter. I was cable-puller, then I became a camera man. I was also a light man; I worked inside the control room as an audio man.

I worked as a floor man, then I became talent "on the air."

Next was station KPHO-TV in Arizona where he gained more experience in the business of operating t.v. shows. He did a little bit of everything: He shot news f i l m s , worked as floor director, wrote and cut film.

"One day I would be floordirecting the news, and the next day I would be talent on the news. It was a good experience for me," he exclaimed.

AT KPHO-TV he recalled, " I did everything—I'd set up my own stories, then I'd go out and I'd shoot the film. I'd set up the l i g h t s : I ' d set up the microphones, then I'd put on my coat and I'd go in front of the camera; then I'd do my stand-ups and my on-camera bit. Working there was good for me, because it taught me something about electronic journalism from a number of points of view."

He realizes the rarity of such opportunities and admits, "That comes from working a small market. You couldn't do a thing like that in a market like Chicago...too many unions."

FROM KPHO-T.V. Bob went to work for KOOL TV, also in Arizona — where he was a writer, reporter and a producer, and he occasionally shot film. While with KOOLTV he took 1< ave to do some research and came to Chicago.

What the Muslims Want THE HONORABLE ELIJAH MUHAMMAD MESSENGER OF ALLAH This is the question asked most frequently by both the whites and the blacks. The answers to this question I shall state as simply as possible.

1. We want freedom. We want a full and complete freedom.

2. We want justice. Equal justice under the law. We want justice applied equally to all, regardless of creed or class or color.

3. We want equality of opportunity. We want equal membership in society with the best in civilized society.

4. We want our people in America whose parents cr 1

grandparents were descendants from slaves, to be allowed to establish

a separate

state

or territory

of their

own—either on this continent or elsewhere. We believe that our former slave masters are obligated to provide such land and that the area must be fertile and minerally rich. We believe that our former slave masters are obligated to maintain and supply our needs in this separate territory for the next 20 to 25 years—until we are able to produce and supply our own needs.

Since we cannot get along with them in peace and

5. We want freedom for all Believers of Islam now held in federal prisons. We want freedom for all black men and women now under death sentence in innumerable prisons in the North as weil as the South.

We want every black man and woman to have the freedom to accept or reject being separated from the slave master's children and establish a land of their own.

We know that the above plan for the solution of the black and white conflict is the best and only answer to the problem between two people.

6. We want ah immediate end to the police brutality and mob attacks against the so callsd Negro throughout the United States.

We believe that the Federal government should intercede to see that black men and women tried in white courts receive justice in accordance with the laws of the land—or allow us to build a new nation for ourselves, dedicated to justice, freedom and liberty.

Under such schooling system we believe we will make a better nation of people. The United States government should provide, free, all nscessary text books and equipment, schools and college buildings. The Muslim teachers shall be left free to teach and train their people in the way of righteousness, decency and self respect.
