the plight

of Black

Am.rica we would see that beyond that age old thirst for Ireedom lies an equal thirst lor lood, clothing, shelter, jobs, and good health. What wiser leadership could there be than one which tunes itself to the needs and wishes of the people. Messenger Muhammad's Program for Black Ameri~a is no' just a fly by night program, nor is it only for today; it is

lasting, real, right now and right on into the luture.

The chart and businesses you see pictured here represents many years of hard, dedicated labor on the part of Our Nation's head, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, Messenger 01 Allah. His love lor Black people is unmatched and has led to the creation of a program so astounding until if you don't see it, it's hard to believe. Yet it exists, and is the only Divine Program in which all Black people can concretely benefit. Each of these blocks represe'nts a phase of building a nation; each represents jobs provided for a people w.ho have gone without for too long. The wisdom of their economic interrelationship is Divine within itself. One enterprise compliments the other in s~ch. a unique masterful way until We can see only success, under the leadership 01 the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

us with His Great Benevolence. He is the Greatest, and proves to the world that He Alone is the True and Living God. The miracles He has perlormed through His Messenger speaks lor itself. He it is upon Whom we all depend. He is All Powerlul, All Wise, and indeed the Fashioner 01 our success. Without His Grace and His Authority, there is nothing. Progress has been a very elusive attribute olthe Black man's struggle until the advent 01 a truely concerned and dedicated Leader, a Divinely Knowledgeable Teacher, a Perfect Guide and a Exemplar of Black attainment, Most Honor, able Elijah Muhammad.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS We would like to thank the entire Composing Department 01 MUHAMMAD SPEAKS NEWSPAPER lor their valuable assistance in the production 01 this magazine. We also thank the Photographers, Bro. Emerson Muhammad. Bro. Alii Muhammad, Bro. Bernard 2X and Edwin 2X for spending

many hours in

the field and in the dark room taking and developing the Beautiful Photos you see in this magazine.

For more than 40 years, he has been consistent in what he teaches and in the work which he has performed for

our betterment. We dedicate this book to Messenger Muhammad whose hard labor has produced PROGRESS rightlrom tbe start. From meager seedlings and the sacrifice 01Messenger Mubammad, his lamily, and loyal-Iaithlul lollowers 01 the early days 01 Islam; Islam now 1I0urishes in a barren land. Our growth blossoms year alter year alter year. Our critics say in the late lorties and early Iifties we were unknown, yet the seed had begun to blossom. They said in the early sixties that we had reached our peak, would whither away, and the likes 01the NAACP, CORE, SCLC, THE URBAN LEAGUE, SNCC, and others would suffocate our efforts. Yet, the blossom began to bloom. Now in the early seventies the lew groups left on the scene have attempted to duplicate policies quite similiar to the Muslims to maintain even a few followers by name only.

We ihank Bro. Larry 3X and the Camera Room Stall lor pulling us prools. enlarging and reducing pictures as we needed them. We thank Bro. Charles 67X, Copy Editor lor his writings and Sister Glady s Bosstan lor her typing 01copy. We thank Bro. Eugene Majied lor designing a cover and making ('(lntact with the printer to have the job completed on short notice. We thank the Putman Graphics ror accepting such a job on short notice and doing such a fine job 01 reproducing this magazine.

Most of 011we thonk Messenger Muhammad for making this magazine possible, conceiving its production and directing his son, Elijah Muhammad, Jr. who has a knowledge of the past, present, and future of the Nation of Islam to pull our efforts together.

The Nation~s Bank Black people

have had few banks

in which they could

place their savings and know that their hard earned

money would be put to wise use. Often times our sovinas were used by the large white conglomerate to build housing which we could not use; schools which we could not attend; restaurants where we could not eat.

It was MeSfenger Muhammad's idea in the 50s to build or own a Black National Savings Bank and here it stands. And then to use the savings of Black people to help fight poverty and wan' among Block people. .

At night, the bright words of the neon sign above the building "Muhammad Speaks" in the familiar Old English style of newspaper masthead - clearly light the way to Truth, as the ocean lighthouse marks the way for marine 'ravelers. The huge building, the industrial hub of the Nation of Islam, literally "hums" with busy activity day and night. The modern, four-color web press, is located on the ground floor. massive equipment.

. .

In Georgia we have 16 Chicken Houses. Some are now producing Broilers Sold in Chicago. The complex also Canloins a Grain Mill for making feed for Our 1,500 head of liveslock and 100,000 chickens.

The Muslim Farms Messenger Muhammad say's a people cannot exist freely without land. As a people, we must become producers and not remain consumers, and employees of other than self. You see pictured here parts of a great train

The Muslim Farms

Farming: Self Help. Messenger Muhammad is building stores and warehouses to preserve Our food for throughout the seasons. One of the floors in our building located at 26th and Federal Street in Chicago, has trailer loads of the small navy bean as pictured here. Messenger Muhammad wrote tho' this small navy bean (as it is called) is a very good food for us to eat. Wheat is also an important part of the Muslim diet. Our crop of wheat is plentiful and is used as feed for the livestock.

One of the Nation's farmers is see"; ~s he°.'aids in the delivery of a calf which will 'one day serve as food for the people. Each of the Muslim farms maintain their own equipment and regular inspections are made to get the maximum usage from all farm implements. This is PROGRESS.

The Muslim Farms .

In Michigan we have 1,000 acres which is utilized mostly in corn because of it's highly nutrient value. The complex maintains 2 great silos and a storage bin to house our crop, they hold 100,000 bu.hel. each. The farm 01.0 has S grain bin. which hold. 20,000 bushels each. This feed is utililed in feeding our Michigan chickens in the 2 house egg factory containing 40,000 chickens. The farm also has a 50 acre apple orchard which yielded 10 trailer loads of apples with the last harve.t. This was a very good average.

~.

The complex conlain. a dairy herd of 100 head of Holslein Cows which gives an average of 3S Ibs. of milk per day per cow, Schools in the area use our dairy as training grounds.

Messenger Muhammad say's we must be able to extract raw materials from the earth and manufacture them into

something useful for ourselves. This would create jobs in production. We must remember that without land there is no production. From the farm comes our very. existance for it is the farm which feeds, clothes and even shelters ~s.

Messenger Muhammad is building' fine homes on the Muslim Farms! air conditioned and very comfortable.

Our Alabama farms have a total of 9,000 acres and their main crops are soy beans, corn, wheat, cotton, vegetables, and watermelons. In last years harvest we transported and sold 31 frailer loads of watermelons around the country at 40,000 pounds per trailer.
