HISTORIC ADDRESS by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad to followers and visitors at Chicago's International Amphitheater warned against deceit and hyprocrisy which could lead' the black man down paths of destruction. The

Messenger of Allah, the only divinely inspired leader of America's 22 million black people appears here on the podium before 7,000 attentive listeners.

'We Live in the Time of a Change of Worlds'

As-Salaam-Alaikum. In the Name of Allah The Most Merciful To Whom all Holy Praise is Due; The Lord of the Worlds. The Most Merciful, The Finder and Live Giver to we the lost found member of the aboriginal black people of the earth here in North America, who have been here for now a little over 400 long years. MANY THANKS to y o u who are present at this hour, which is an honor to me and my laborers, the Ministers and my followers, for you to be present. It shows respect, and I thank you. We are not here, this afternoon, to declare war on each other,

we are here to declare truth on each other. There are very few people that like to hear truth. We must know the world that we are living in. We must know the world that will be after this world. I refer to all the time as the Hereafter. Hereafter means after the rule and power of this world, called the white man's world, which is the white man's world. So, we are taught to pray that we live to see the Hereafter. Christianity teaches us to pray to go to heaven when the judgment comes, prepare yourself that God will accept you to go to heaven in His Kingdom. *********************** Pray that you be one of those in the Kingdom of God. . . someone's eyes Or, pray that you live to see m u s t b e o p e n e d s o t h e y the Kingdom of Heaven apcan s e e t h e s t o n e s t h a t proaching on the face of the a r e in t h e w a y o f t h o s e earth. This is all good and w h o w o u l d w a l k in t h e should be obeyed by those n e w s m o o t h a n d c l e a r who would like to see the Hereafter. But it is not so p a t h . . . M y e y e s h a v e well understood by those b e e n o p e n e d t o s e e t h e s e that the Christian preachers, s t o n e s that I m a y s h o w theologians, and scientists of t h e m t o m y p e o p l e . . . scripture has taught. TODAY WE WANT the plain truth the truth that will carve out a path for us without stumbling. So, I must say to you that Almighty God Allah demands a clear path today. He demands a path where-

in there is no stumbling stones of opposition of the old world of spiritual darkness. Especially with a people that because of the spiritual darkness of this world, have b e c o m e spiritually blind.

Billion Budget Needed To Fight Poverty $ 7 0 0

AFL-CIO Vice President A. Philip Randolph proposed a $100 billion program to eliminate poverty and bring about racial equality within 10 years at the labor organizations 29 member executive council meeting in Chicago. THE PROGRAM, called the Randolph Freedom Budget to be presented to President Johnson next month, proposes for t h e creation of hundreds of new jobs a n d the destruction o f b l a c k ghettoes throughout the country. Mr. R a n Randolph dolph, president of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters stated, "as long as there is a scarciPoverty W i p e d

ty of housing and jobs there will be racial conflicts." The multi-billion dollar plan, to be financed by the federal government, labor and private industry was d r a w n up by economists and calls for the pouring of $10 billion annually into the economy. Randolph later told 750 delegates to the American Federation of Teachers, also convening that, "there are some people who are disquieted and disturbed because of the civil rights marches. But all this social change is attended by pain." The 77-year-old labor leader said, however that the civil rights movement should now strive to generate more jobs for the poor. MR. RANDOLPH, the only Negro on the AFL-CIO executive council has been active in civil rights and as early as 1943 picketed for Negro employment.

WASHINGTON — T h e United States has the economic capacity to wipe out poverty and neglect but it lacks the will and the techniques, Robert C. The Government effort to rebuild ghettos and slums in the cities "will involve local, state and federal Governments," Mr. Weaver declared. "It will call for private as well as public involvement. And there will be a major role for nonprofit and religious organizations." "THE MASS unemployment of the Great Depression was a national catastrophy," he continued, "but still was not so frustrating as the class unemployment which endures in today's society with its generally high standards of living."

Calitornians' Suit Challenges

(Pan Africa.n Press) LOS ANGELES — A California trial concerning the refusal of two young men to report for the draft as instructed by the U.S. government, could force America to decide whether it is going to consider Negroes fullfledged citizens or admit that its 22 million blacks are still little more than slaves. THE YOUTHS, Karl Von Key and Norman Earl Richmond, refused to report for the draft not on religious grounds b u t rather on grounds that the American black man is not a citizen the same as the white man and therefore does not have

As explained by Self Determination Committee president Robert Brock, an organization that helped present the case before the California district federal court, "in the present case we have two black men, both 20, who have stated orally and in writing that they shall not further participate in or obey laws unilaterally made by one . . . the Caucasian white people . . . to be obeyed by another . . . black slave descendants . . . without their consent, which is slavery. gnawing curse of large-scale unemployment. Money and skills are very short. American aid already has played a vital role. Both Tunisia and Morocco each have secured about $47.6 million worth of aid over the past 10 years, but more is needed. Algeria—as the world Bank is likely to report later this month — will need l a r g e amounts of private foreign capital if her crash industrial program is to get off the ground. American diplomats are smiling broadly and assuring officials that the U.S. will come to their aid. TUNISIA'S French population has slumped to 25,000 from 190,000 persons 10 years ago. In Morocco it is down to 100,000 from over four times that figure. With them went their capital, purchasing power and their skills. Political and defense problems also arise. The sister states of North Africa are not on particularly g o o d terms with one another. Tunisia and Morocco, in particular, look with foreboding at Algeria's growing power. Moreover, they suspect that F r a n c e prefers Algeria's friendship to theirs because she sees in her a gateway to the "Third World."

THE GROUP, led by black nationalist Ron Karenga, has hired lawyers to "advise and conduct classes regarding rules and regulations pertaining to the white man's draft." Karenga, in his newspaper Harambe, stated that the necessity for such an organization is seen in the fact that although black men are fighting and dying for America's causes they are not doing so on an equal basis. "Not only are we being drafted in proportionately higher numbers than white Americans, but the number of black soldiers in the Vietnamese war is also proportionately higher. "WE ARE NOT only fed up with fighting everyone's battles but our own, but we are determined also to fight against the racial discrimination and racial murder which the armed forces of white America impose upon our families and l o v e d ones."

Most 'Odd-BalV Students Not

A scientific Investigation debunks the popular belief that the "odd - ball" or eccentric student proves to be the "big brain" or genius. NOT necessarily so, according to a five-year study at University of Illinois in Urbana. Actually, the eccentric student tends to leave school before graduation and as a rule, makes poorerthan-average grades. The study revealed that many of 108 psychotic students seen at the university's student health service suffered from typical characteristics of mental illness. They lacked persistence, were uncertain about goals, were dissatisfied with the curriculum and had a "low

The startling fact that just 20 years ago, twothirds of the world's population was totally enslaved by white colonialists is clearly shown on this chart outlining the enslaved nations of the world and their populations. Oddly missing is China with its 700 million people which would have brought the count to almost 2 billion people trapped in slavery by the colonialists. Emerging nations are cautioning each other that chains have not yet been altogether severed. A new and subtle no-colonialism based in economic control is the new method.

Qur-an, Islam is the "Way" of Allah (God) Himself. As a matter of fact, the words of the Holy Qur-an also offer another invaluable advice and promise from the Supreme Being (to Whom all p r a i s e s are due forever!): ". . . Success (glory) and dominion (rule) are but Our rewards . . . set aside for the f a i t h f u l (Muslims) . . . " This signifies that the r i g h t e o u s can achieve peace, prosperity and power (Freedom, Justice and Equality) merely by submitting to the Will of Allah. They need not indulge in the "game" of politics, especially when evident the "choice" available is limited to "two forms of evil" — lesser evil and greater evil. FROM ABOVE, I think it should be crystal clear to all that the black man's Salvation — now or in the "hereafter" — lies not in the white-controlled Christianity or the white-led politician's cleverly - phrased manifestoes but in ISLAM (obedience and devotion to the

FOLLOW-UP medical visit is part of Thailand's nationwide program to improve health of children. It is a part of the giant steps being taken by nations formerly under the heel of white supremacy to aid themselves. A health worker. Miss Pensri (r.) pays a home visit to Nuan Pun Duangjai and her month-

Miss Pensri follows up the delivery with frequent home visits. This scene takes place in Maetang, Thailand, which is in a rural area. P a l m N o t S a y

THAILAND'S NUTRITION project is subject of talk by government midwife to parents in rural village of Huarua. Government's effort to raise the nutritional level of the people involves health personnel, teachers, home economists, agricultural extension workers and community development workers who are being trained to determine nutrition problems and establish effective remedy programs.

Doctors have given approval to the use of palm reading in the study of heart disease and birth defects in two articles in the current issue of the Journal of the American Medical association. IN ONE REPORT, Doctors Milton Alter and R o b e r t Schulenberg, of the University of Minnesota, said many infants suffering birth defects from German measles can be identified at birth by palm print examinations. They said they found signicant variations from normal patterns in the palm prints of 28 infants whose mothers contracted German measles in early pregnancy. In a second report, two Japanese physicians s a i d they found a significantly greater number of palm print abnormalities among p e r s o n s with congenital heart disease lhan among heart disorders after birth. THEY SAID t h a t among 44 patients with congenital heart disease they found 64 per cent had palm print abnormalities. Blood Transfusions

LONDON — The danger of transmitting dangerous diseases by blood transfusion, including hepatitis, a serious liver complaint, is not as widely appreciated as it should be, states the British Medical Journal. THE INCIDENCE of the disease in patients receiving an average of two bottles of blood was only about 0.8 per cent. But when plasma from relatively large pools was used the incidence could reach the alarming figure of 11.9 per cent. If the plasma pool was prepared from less than 10 bottles the figure fell to 1.3 per cent. After a massive blood transfusion—between 10 and 20 bottles was commonplace in modern heart surgery—

who has never smoked." The risk increases with the number of cigarets smoked, although only a minority of smokers develop lung cancer, Dr. Levine charged. A noncigaret-smoking city man of 65 has one chance in 273 of getting lung cancer, but a 65 year-old male urban dweller who smokes one pack a day has one chance in ten. The two-pack-a-day smoker has one chance in six, Dr. Levine said citing a recent report. Continuing he said that nonsmokers living in rural areas almost never get lung cancer. IN THE final stages of his report Dr. Levine charged that cigaret smoke contains large concentrations of cancer-causing agents and that there is less lung cancer found among cigar and pipe smokers because t h e s e smokers do not inhale smoke into their lungs. Lastly, Dr. Levine said, "there is also a substance, as yet unidentified, that with each cigaret smoked paralyzes for 20 minutes the tiny cilia, or dust-defense mechanisms of the b r o n c h i a l tubes."

Claim

Premature births may be caused by mumps, chickenpox, hepatitis, and measles as well as by German measles, two New York doctors reported yesterday in the Journal of the American Medical association. DR. MORRIS SIEGEL and Dr. Harold F. Fuerst of the State University of New York college of medicine reported on a New York City study of 1,652 mothers who gave birth prematurely between 1957 and 1964. German measles is the only one of W a r n i n g

Epidemic

Dr. Harold Levine, chief of the medical chest service of Hektoen Institute for Medical Research of Cook County Hospital, charged that lung cancer caused by cigaret smoking is reaching the epidemic stage in men. The medical researcher also said that the steadily rising incidence of lung cancer "is, attributable to cigaret smoking." "It is rising also in women, although to a lesser degree," he declared. THE RESEARCH group at the Hektoen Institute, headed by Dr. Levine recently received a five-year grant of $326,000 from the National Institutes of Health to study bronchial conditions closely connected with emphysema, a lung disease found among cigaret smokers. Of the 400 lung cancer patients treated in a single year at County Hospital, 8 per cent are of the "squamous" type, a malignancy of the superficial lining cells of the lungs and bronchi, Dr. Levine said, adding: "I have never seen a single case of the squamouscell lung cancer in a person Scientists

the five diseases known to infect the unborn child as well as the mother, the doctors reported. It also causes, more premature b i r t h s , more birth defects, and more still births than any of the other diseases, they reported. ALTHO the reason the diseases other than G e r m a n measles c a u s e premature births isn't clear, the report stated, doctors said the cause might be the mother's high fever, metabolic changes, or toxic products produced during the disease. the risk was once again increased. The journal also says the assumption, shared by many doctors, that prostatectomy ends a man's sexual life is far from the truth. STUDIES in North America reported that more than 90 per cent of all married men interviewed maintained an active sexual life at the age of 60 and more than 70 per cent from 65 to 70. These findings had received independent corroboration in interviews with elderly women and were virtually identical with results reported in London in men undergoing prostatectomy. THERE WAS, of course, some falling off with the advance of old age, but the decline was not as marked as tradition and the poet suggested. Impotence in old age, when it did arrive, was not easy to explain. For many elderly couples the declining health of the wife was the limiting factor.

The Muslim What the Muslims Want

.-a This is the question asked most frequently by both the whites and the blacks. The answers to this question I shall state as simply as possible. 1. We want freedom. We want a full and complete freedom. 2. We want justice. Equal justice under the law. We want justice applied equally to all, regardless of creed or class or color. 3. We want equality of opportunity. We want equal membership in society with" the best in civilized society. 4. We want our people in America whose parents or grandparents were descendants from slaves, to be allowed to establish a separate state or territory of their own—either on this continent or elsewhere. We believe that our former slave masters are obligated to provide such land and that the area must be fertile and minerally rich. We believe that our former slave masters are obligated to maintain and supply our needs in this separate territory for the next 20 to 25 years—until we are able to produce and supply our own needs. Since we cannot get along with them in peace and equality, after giving them 400 years of our sweat and blood and receiving in return some of the worst treatment human beings have ever experienced, we believe our contributions to this land and the suffering forced upon us by white America, justifies our demand for complete separation in a state or territory of our own. 5. We want freedom for all Believers of Islam now held in federal prisons. We want freedom for all black men and women now under death sentence in innumerable prisons in the North as well as the South. We want every black man and woman to have the freedom to accept or reject being separated from the slave master's children and establish a land of their own. We know that the above plan for the solution of the black and white conflict is the best and only answer to the problem between two people. 6. We want an immediate end to the police brutality and mob attacks against the socalled Negro throughout the United States. We believe that the Federal government should intercede to see that black men and women tried in white courts receive justice in accordance with the laws of the land—or allow us to build a new nation for ourselves, dedicated to justice, freedom and liberty. 7. As long as we are not allowed to establish a state or territory of our own. we demand not only equal justice under the laws of the United States, but equal employment opportunities—NOW! We do not believe that after 400 years of free or nearly free labor, sweat and blood, which has helped America become rich and powerful, that so many thousands of black people should have to subsist on relief, charity or live in poor houses. 8. We want the government of the United States to exempt pur people from ALL taxation as long as we are .deprived of equal justice under the laws of the land. ' 9. We want equal education—but separate schools up to 16 for boys and 18 for girls on the condition that the girls be sent to women's colleges and universities. We want all black children educated, taught and trained by their own teachers. Under such schooling system we believe we will make a better nation of people. The United States government should provide, i%

Program

free, all necessary text books and equipment, schools and college buildings. The Muslim teachers shall be left free to teach and train their people in the way of righteousness, decency and self respect. 10. We believe that intermarriage or race mixing should be prohibited. We want the religion of Islam taught without hinderance or suppression. These are some of the things that we, the Muslims, want for our people in North America.

|

What the Muslims Believe

§

1. WE BELIEVE in the One God Whose proper Name is Allah. 2. WE BELIEVE in the Holy Qur an and in the Scriptures of all the Prophets of God. 3. WE BELIEVE in the truth of the Bible, but we believe that it has been tampered with and must be reinterpreted so that mankind will *not be snared by the falsehoods that have been added to it. 4. WE BELIEVE in Allah's Prophets and the Scriptures they brought to the people. 5. WE BELIEVE in the resurrection of the dead—not in physical resurrection—but in mental resurrection. We believe that the socalled Negroes are most in need of mental resurrection; therefore, they will be resurrected first. Furthermore, we believe we are the people of God's choice, as it has been written, that God would choose the rejected and the despised. We can find no other persons fitting this description in these last days more than the so-called Negroes in America. We believe in the resurrection of the righteous. 6. WE BELIEVE in the judgement; we believe this first judgement will take place as God revealed, in America . . . 7. WE BELIEVE this is the time in history for the separation of the so-called Negroes and the so-called white Americans. We believe the black man should be freed in name as well as in fact. By this we mean that he should be freed from the names imposed upon him by his former slave masters. Names which identified him as being the slave master's slave. We believe that if we are free indeed, we should go in our own people's names —the black peoples of the earth. 8. WE BELIEVE in justice for all, whether in God or not; we believe as others, that we are due equal justice as human beings. We believe in equality—as a nation—of equals. We do not believe that we are equal with our slave masters in the status of "freed slaves." We recognize and respect American citizens as independent peoples and we respect their laws which govern this nation. 3. WE BELIEVE |hat the offer of integration is nypocritical and is made by those who are trying to deceive the black peoples into believing that their 400-year-old open enemies of freedom, justice and equality are, all of a sudden, their "friends." Furthermore, we believe that such deception is intended to prevent black people from realizing that the time in history has arrived for the separation from the whites of this nation. If the white people are truthful about their professed friendship toward the so-called Ne-

Honorable Elijah Muhammad

gro, they can prove it by dividing up America with their slaves. We do not believe that America witi ever be able to furnish enough jobs for her own millions of unemployed, in addition to jobs for the 20,000,000 black people as well. 10. WE BELIEVE that we who declared ourselves to be righteous Muslims, should not participate in wars which take the lives of humans. We do not believe this nation should force us to take part in such wars, for we have nothing to gain from it unless America agrees to give us the necessary territory wherein we may have something to fight for. 11. WE BELIEVE our women should be respected and protected as the women of other nationalities are respected and protected. 12. WE BELIEVE that Allah (God) appeared in the Person of Master W. Fard Muhammad, July, 1930; the long-awaited "Messiah" of the Christians and the "Mahdi" of the Muslims. We believe further and lastly that Allah is God and besides HIM there is no God and He will bring about a universal government of peace wherein we all can live in peace together.
