Welcome WELCOME to the Tumble Tots National Club! Be prepared for a great year filled with plenty of excitement for you and your little one! Make sure your Tumble Tot (or Gymbob) wears their T-Shirt of Confidence to classes as all their classmates will be wearing theirs too. You will find more top tips on page 5 of this handbook. Our specially designed, brightly coloured, wooden and foam equipment will help your child develop their physical skills of agility, balance, climbing and co-ordination. Each class is tailored to the age and stage of a child’s development which you can read more about on pages 6 – 7. As a member there are all sorts of opportunities for them to participate in various activities that we do on top of regular classes. Don’t forget to tick these off as you go on the checklist on page 11. The tasks will be challenging but lots of fun and our fully trained staff will help to guide and encourage your child through their sessions. Our Programme Our programme aims to develop children’s ‘Skills for Life’. It helps them grow into confident adults, that understand and enjoy the importance of leading healthy active lifestyles. On the day of your trial, you will have experienced a fraction of the potential that Tumble Tots has to offer your child in the future. Today’s equipment is only a small part of the apparatus and the layout is changed every two weeks. This gives us the opportunity to concentrate on different skills and to intensify the challenges as the children develop within the programme.

The basic philosophy is to ‘build selfconfidence’ by helping develop the physical learning of the child. This is achieved by focusing on four important areas:  General motor skills  Social awareness  Self assurance  Self discipline They gain this through:  A structured development programme  Ongoing challenges  A fun and happy atmosphere  Well trained and enthusiastic staff  A safe environment Age Groups:  6 Months - Walking  Walking - 2 Years  2 - 3 Years  3 Years - School Age  Gymbobs (School Age - 7 Years)

Top Tips in the Classes  When your child receives the membership pack, put their name on the T-Shirt and encourage them to wear it in classes to feel part of the club!

 Parents are fully responsible for their children in the under 3’s classes. We ask that you work directly with your child, encouraging and assisting where necessary. Support your child by holding the back of their T-Shirt so their hands are free for climbing and to aid balance.

 Barefoot is best (and safest) for children as this helps with their development. Grown-ups can wear shoes if they aren’t high heels or heavy boots as these can hurt small fingers or toes.

 In the over 3’s classes, grown-ups are not actively involved but must always remain on the premises.

 Please dress children in suitable leg wear to allow for better movement and avoid jewellery or any clothing that can catch on the equipment.

 Children are asked not to eat or drink on the equipment but if they need refreshments, you are welcome to take them to the waiting area.

 If your child uses a dummy, please ensure they take it out before classes to protect them from potential injury.

 Please do not take any photographs or videos during the classes and refrain from using mobile phones so your child has your full attention.

 Before you leave and in the case of severe weather conditions, please check your emails, our website or Facebook page for closures.

 Do not let children onto the equipment before or after classes. Please move to the waiting area so we can set-up safely for the next class.

 Make sure you arrive in plenty of time and register your child at the desk.  Please take your child to the toilet before classes begin to save interruption (this is especially important for the over 3’s classes).  If you need to bring a sibling along to class, please be aware that they are unable to participate or play on the equipment as they will not be covered by insurance. We recommend bringing something to occupy them such as a book or colouring.

Objectives & Benefits During this time the safety of parents, children, Franchisees and staff remains paramount and we have taken the essential measures to ensure that those attending classes remain as safe as possible whilst still enjoying and gaining the full benefits that our wonderful programme has to offer. All of the measures that we, Tumble Tots (UK) Ltd., and our Franchisees are taking are based on official advice and guidance, these measures are temporary and will be routinely reviewed and adapted in accordance with future advice and guidance. Please check with your franchisee regarding their local measures.

6 Months – Walking

Walking – 2 Years

The 6 Months – Walking class offers you and your baby a relaxed and fun environment to help assist with key developmental milestones. Our 30-minute class will provide you with equipment to help make Tummy Time enjoyable, engage your baby in Sensory Play, help to build confidence in taking a first step and even start to build memory skills for climbing safely!

The Walking – 2 Years class offers your little one a 30-minute class where they can learn to control their bodies and movements following a circuit of Tumble Tots equipment! The circuit aims to build a child’s fundamental movement skills whilst allowing them to build their confidence and learn in a playful way. As we are not able to use our Co-ordination Equipment, you will be sent a weekly Activity Sheet to help build your little one’s co-ordination skills at home.

2 – 3 Years Our careful planning has meant that the 2 – 3 Years Class remains as close to what we all know and love as possible. Tumble Tots who attend the class will be given the opportunity to engage in a structured physical play class, developing their climbing, balance, agility and co-ordination skills. The class aims to challenge and further each child's individual and specific capabilities.

3 Years – School Age Our careful planning has meant that the 3 Years – School Age Class remains as close to what we all know and love as possible. Tumble Tots who attend the class will still be given the opportunity to engage in a more structured and independent physical play class which continues to challenge their specific and individual physical capabilities. Whilst attending classes, parents/carers must remain socially distant between one another whether this is in a separate waiting area or the class environment.

Gymbobs Gymbobs can take part in a 45-minute class which has all of the same aims and objectives as ever before. Our Gymbobs will continue to build their strength and stamina using complexed equipment setups to help, they will also continue to have the opportunity to take part in Warm Up Games and carefully constructed Relay Races! *Please note that not all our centres run Gymbobs classes, parents must remain on site for the 3 Years - School Age and Gymbobs classes, annual membership applies, class prices vary across the country and pre-booking is required.

6 Ways Children Can Keep Active For 3 Hours A Day!

Tumble Tots are committed to helping to build the healthiest generation in history. The NHS physical activity guidelines says that children under 5 should be active for at least 3 hours (that’s 180 minutes) each day! There are all kinds of ways in which your little ones can keep active for the recommended amount of time. Here are some of our favourites: 16

1. CLIMBING

Climbing helps to develop children’s fine motor skills, improving their grasp and grip. Climbing requires focus and concentration as well as hand, feet and eye co-ordination. Children must put their hands and feet in the correct places if they are to successfully mount a piece of climbing equipment. Whilst climbing up and down on smaller apparatus is a good start, as your little one grows up they will need more of a challenge to further develop these skills. Skills for Life! Climbing builds crosslateral skills which are needed when little ones develop their handwriting skills.

2. JUMPING

Jumping is a great way for children to use all key muscle groups in their body. But it is the core muscles that benefit the most from jumping, as these are the muscles used when jumping or landing. Jumping from one spot to another is great for a child who wants that extra challenge. Why not encourage your little one to imagine they are frog, jumping from one Lilypad to another? Skills for Life! Core strength is essential for all kinds of activities including riding a bike, climbing a ladder or even playing twister!

3. ACTIVE PLAY

Active play activities such as hide-and-seek are loads of fun! But there are also cognitive benefits to these activities. It raises children’s curiosity, their spatial awareness, and offers physical challenges which aim to increase their agility and balance skills. With small groups of children tag is great at developing a variety of physical skills as well as fair play and teamwork. Skills for Life! Searching for objects develops problem-solving skills transferable to the classroom.

4. PLAYING WITH OBJECTS

Playing with objects is great before children start walking, especially if those objects stimulate more than one of the child’s senses. Putting a toy in front of a baby, who is not yet walking, encourages them to reach out and grab it. Playing with objects also teaches little ones about object permanence, the idea that objects exist even if they cannot be seen or heard. Skills for Life! Research shows playing with objects that stimulate children’s senses builds nerve connections in the brain pathways, supporting language development. 19

5. CRAWLING

work together building the fundamental skills for ongoing development. Tunnels are great ways to encourage children to start crawling, especially if you are on the other side encouraging them all the way.

Crawling is a really important stage in a child’s physical development. It develops their balance, gross and fine motor skills and handeye coordination. It also makes young children co-ordinate both their upper and lower body. Crawling is also super important for a baby’s brain development as both sides of the brain

Skills for Life! Crawling builds up a child’s confidence to explore new places, building independent confidence.

6. CATCHING & THROWING

Catching, throwing or rolling balls and other objects is a great way for children to develop their agility and hand-eye coordination. This activity is super fun inside or outside and can use a variety of objects including balls, flying disks and bean bags. To improve these skills further why not add a bucket to the equation and encourage your little one to throw an object into the bucket. This will also develop persistence skills. Remember to watch out for your child’s hand preference as that may start to reveal itself during these activities and always encourage them to use both sides of their body. Skills for Life! Catching and Throwing gives a child more control over their eye movement, making it easier for them to focus on their reading.

Letting Go of Lockdown

New research from infant formula brand Kendamil, has found that 42 per cent of new mums are concerned that their lockdown babies will struggle socially when the world re-opens. Over a third (37 per cent) admitted to worrying about their little one’s lack of social skills. Parents of children under two years old were most concerned.

The survey reveals that: Top post-pandemic parenting fear is

 children’s inability to socialise. Almost a third (30) per cent of mums dread  public temper tantrums. One in four mums used the pandemic as an  excuse to limit visitors. Parents saw chores as ‘me time’.  Respondents were asked whether they thought the pandemic had an impact on parenting – a slim 16 per cent felt that it hadn’t. Interestingly, 42 per cent said it had a positive impact, while exactly the same number said the impact was negative.

The study of 1,005 UK mums with children aged five or below also found that a quarter of mums (24 per cent) are nervous about seeing other parents managing better than them postpandemic, and 69 per cent of newborns missed out on bonding time with grandparents. 23

Britain is home to around 40% of the world’s population of seals, and one of the best places to see them is at Lincolnshire’s Donna Nook National Nature Reserve, covering more than 10 kilometres of coast between Grainthorpe Haven and Saltfleet and home to around 3,000 grey seals. The best time to witness them is in November and December when the seals give birth to their pups. The designated viewing areas at the foot of the sand dunes offer the perfect vantage point to spot the fluffy white pups from a safe distance. Spot dolphins off the South Coast

beaked Dolphins are also now being seen every year on the coast in increasing numbers.

At least seven species of dolphin swim the waters around the UK. England’s south coast is home to the white-beaked dolphins that put on a show, performing their flips, jumps and dives, and getting friendly with the local boats. BIRD WATCHING ON LAND AND AT SEA... Farne Islands’ Puffins, Northumberland

Puffins (or as the locals like to call them ‘Tommy Noddy’) gather in their tens of thousands on Northumberland’s Farne Islands between April and July to breed and nest. New Rye Harbour Discovery Centre, Sussex

The centre will transform the way visitors engage with the natural and cultural heritage of the reserve, with an exciting and innovative programme of activities, education, training and conservation projects. The 1,110 acre reserve is one of the most biodiverse places in Britain with 4,200 plant and animal species recorded, including over 200 rare or endangered birds and mammals. It is also home to a range of historic buildings, among them Henry VIII’s Camber Castle and the Mary Stanford Lifeboat House.

Red Squirrels, Merseyside

While we’re accustomed to seeing grey squirrels almost everywhere, our native red squirrels are a pretty rare sight. Pushed out of the country by the introduction of American grey squirrels, there are only a few places left in England where these rusty-red squirrels can survive. Visit Formby, Merseyside and take the designated National Trust Red Squirrel Walking Trail where you’ll catch a glimpse of them feasting on hazelnuts and pinecones.

Wild boar making a comeback at Forest of Dean

As you wander through the woodlands of Forest of Dean make sure to look out for wild boar. These once common species were hunted to extinction around 300 years ago but now, thanks to both accidental and deliberate releases, they have made a return to the forest. Though they are pretty elusive, which can make them tricky to spot, there are a few clues that’ll tell you if any are nearby, including their hooved footprints and trees coated in mud (they enjoy a good old scratch against the bark).

Deer Watching in Cheshire

Lyme Park’s not only home of Pride and Prejudice but an array of wildlife from migrating Scandinavian birds to fairytale-like fungus, with its star players being its resident red deer. Deer have been at Lyme Park for over 600 years and continue to play a pivotal role on the estate. Designated walks take you around the grounds where you’re almost guaranteed to see a deer or two wandering about or grazing.

The Garden of England is soon to introduce Bison to its woodlands, as a way to promote stronger habitats. Known as ecosystem engineers, the Bison will help to change the environment through natural behaviours – like eating bark and creating dust baths – to help restore wildlife to the Blean Wood area. Once they’re settled in, you’ll be able to see the bison from Blean Woods’s public footpaths as well as from raised viewing points.

Hannah Reiss explains… To reduce your environmental footprint you might recycle, compost food waste, buy secondhand clothes, cut back on meat and swap flying for taking the train. Then there are the social issues in the world that are becoming increasingly important to us such as advocating for equal rights, attending protests, donating to local charities or even reaching out to an elderly neighbour who might be lonely or shielding. We are confident that these actions create a positive impact in the world - and yet when it comes to choosing brands to buy from, it’s difficult to know how our pounds can have real purpose. You might look out for products with recyclable or biodegradable packaging, but is that business also prioritising the welfare of its workers and suppliers? You’re enticed by an activist brand, campaigning to raise awareness about urgent social issues in the world, but is it measuring its environmental impact across its production chain too? To certify, B Corps must achieve a minimum score on the B Impact Assessment - a rigorous online tool assessing a company’s impact on its workers, customers, community and the environment. B Corps commit to transparency by publishing their score on the B Corp website and they amend their governing articles to legally embed a commitment to people and the planet, alongside making a profit. There are currently over 3,300 B Corps around the world and B Corps in the UK include The Body Shop, Abel & Cole, Patagonia, Ella’s Kitchen and JoJo Maman Bébé. In fact, the movement is really picking up momentum with the UK’s favourite TV chef, Jamie Oliver, joining the community in July this year.
