6 Our Programme Our programme aims to develop children's 'Skills for Life'. It helps them grow into confident adults, that understand and enjoy the importance of leading healthy active lifestyles.Atyour first class, you will have experienced a fraction of the potential that Tumble Tots has to offer your child in the future. Today’s equipment is only a small part of the apparatus and the layout is changed every two weeks (six weeks for 6 MonthsWalking).Thisgives us the opportunity to concentrate on different skills and to intensify the challenges as the children develop within the programme. Age Groups:  6 Months - Walking  Walking - 2 Years  2 - 3 Years  3 Years - School Age  Gymbobs (School Age - 7 Years) The basic philosophy is to ‘build selfconfidence’ through the development of the child’s physical learning. This is achieved by focusing on four important areas:  General motor skills  Social awareness  Self assurance  Self discipline They gain this through:  A structured development programme  Ongoing challenges  A fun and happy atmosphere  Well trained and enthusiastic staff  A safe environment

When your child receives their membership pack, encourage them to wear their t-shirt in classes to feel part of the club! Before you leave and in the case of severe weather conditions, please check your text messages, emails, our website or Facebook page for closures. Please dress children in suitable clothing to allow for better movement and avoid jewellery, dummies or any clothing that can catch on the equipment or cause injury. Barefoot is best (and safest) for children as this helps with their development. Grownups can wear shoes if they aren’t high heels or heavy boots as these can hurt small fingers or toes. Please take your child to the toilet before classes begin to save interruption (this is especially important for the over 3’s classes).

Top Tips in the Classes

Parents are fully responsible for their children in the under 3’s classes. We ask that you work directly with your child, encouraging and assisting where necessary. Support your child by holding the back of their T-Shirt so their hands are free for climbing and to aid balance. In the over 3’s classes, grown-ups are not actively involved but must always remain on the premises.  Children are asked not to eat or drink on the equipment but if they need refreshments, you are welcome to take them to the waiting area. Please do not take any photographs or videos during the classes and refrain from using mobile phones so your child has your full attention.  Do not let children onto the equipment before or after classes. Please move to the waiting area so we can set-up safely for the next class.

7

Make sure you arrive in plenty of time and register your child at the desk.

If you need to bring a sibling along to class, please be aware that they are unable to participate or play on the equipment as they will not be covered by insurance. We recommend bringing something to occupy them such as a book or colouring.

Walking – 2 Years

6 Months – Walking Babies explore the equipment in a happy and relaxed environment. This enhances their brain development and helps them to reach key milestones such as crawling, cruising and walking, taking them onto the next class.

Thedevelop.journey

Confidently walking toddlers are now introduced to an exciting circuit of equipment as well as hand held co-ordination activities, developing their fine motor skills. ‘Circle Time’ helps language development through rhymes and action songs.

2 – 3 Years Working together in small groups, little ones are introduced to stations with more challenging equipment to refine their agility, balance and climbing skills. Following instructions and learning to take turns develops their listening and social skills, as well as confidence.

Objectives & Benefits

Our progressive play programme is designed to develop your child’s physical skills. Using bespoke colourful equipment, we focus on agility, balance, climbing and co-ordination, which enhances brain development and builds confidence. Every session is supervised by our amazing specially trained staff, getting the best out of each child. Up until 3 years, grown-ups participate as well so that parents, carers and even grandparents can spend time with little ones as they begins for babies from 6 months old who can sit up unaided.

Here’s how our classes break down:

The Benefits of Keeping your Children Active Every Day

Tumble Tots are committed to helping build the healthiest generation in history. The NHS physical activity guidelines recommend that children under 5 should be active for at least 3 hours (that’s 180 minutes) each day! There are all kinds of ways in which your little ones can keep active for the recommended amount of time. Here are some of our favourites:

Climbing helps to develop children’s fine motor skills, improving their grasp and grip. Climbing requires focus and concentration as well as hand, feet and eye co-ordination. Children must put their hands and feet in the correct places if they are to successfully mount a piece of climbing equipment. Whilst climbing up and down on smaller apparatus is a good start, as your little one grows up they will need more of a challenge to further develop these skills.

2. JUMPING

1. CLIMBING

3. ACTIVE PLAY

Skills for Life! Core strength is essential for all kinds of activities including riding a bike, climbing a ladder or even playing twister!

13

Active play activities such as hide-and-seek are loads of fun! But there are also cognitive benefits to these activities. It raises children’s curiosity, their spatial awareness, and offers physical challenges which aim to increase their agility and balance skills. With small groups of children tag is great at developing a variety of physical skills as well as fair play and teamwork. Skills for Life! Searching for objects develops problem-solving skills transferable to the classroom.

Skills for Life! Climbing builds cross-lateral skills which are needed when little ones develop their handwriting skills.

Jumping is a great way for children to use all key muscle groups in their body. But it is the core muscles that benefit the most from jumping, as these are the muscles used when jumping or landing. Jumping from one spot to another is great for a child who wants that extra challenge. Why not encourage your little one to imagine they are frog, jumping from one Lilypad to another?

Skills for Life! Catching and Throwing gives a child more control over their eye movement, making it easier for them to focus on their reading.

4. PLAYING WITH OBJECTS

6. CATCHING & THROWING

Catching, throwing or rolling balls and other objects is a great way for children to develop their agility and hand-eye coordination. This activity is super fun inside or outside and can use a variety of objects including balls, flying disks and bean bags. To improve these skills further why not add a bucket to the equation and encourage your little one to throw an object into the bucket. This will also develop persistence skills. Remember to watch out for your child’s hand preference as that may start to reveal itself during these activities and always encourage them to use both sides of their body.

Skills for Life! Research shows playing with objects that stimulate children’s senses builds nerve connections in the brain pathways, supporting language development.

Playing with objects is great before children start walking, especially if those objects stimulate more than one of the child’s senses. Putting a toy in front of a baby, who is not yet walking, encourages them to reach out and grab it. Playing with objects also teaches little ones about object permanence, the idea that objects exist even if they cannot be seen or heard.

5. CRAWLING

Crawling is a really important stage in a child’s physical development. It develops their balance, gross and fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. It also makes young children co-ordinate both their upper and lower body. Crawling is also super important for a baby’s brain development as both sides of the brain work together building the fundamental skills for ongoing development. Tunnels are great ways to encourage children to start crawling, especially if you are on the other side encouraging them all the way.

Skills for Life! Crawling builds up a child’s confidence to explore new places, building independent confidence.

Ride, Smile and Explore Together

Planning a cycling adventure can be tricky when you have young children. Your child might be eager for a bike ride but keeping their cycling ability and stamina in mind is a must. The TowBuddy allows you and your child to enjoy longer bike rides together at your speed by attaching them safely and securely to your bike. Simply mount the TowBuddy to your seat post and the other end to the front of your child’s bike. The fork stabiliser arm keeps the child’s forks straight whilst riding, securing the bike in place from any unexpected balance changes. Once fully assembled, the TowBuddy is quick and easy to attach or detach with tool free fitment, so you can get off and go with minimal hassle. The stow design allows you to secure the bar out of the way whilst not in use which means your child has the freedom to ride independently. When you are ready to go again, simply extend the arm and attach using the quick release mechanisms. The TowBuddy is suitable for 26”, 27.5” and 29” hardtails and above and is compatible with 12” – 20” wheeled children’s bikes. To find out more visit the ETC website at www.everythingtocycling.co.uk

Our top ten quick energy saving tips include, keeping to a four-minute shower and swapping a bath a week for a shower, being mindful of how often you use your appliances and remembering to turn your appliances and electronics off standby mode. Turn off lights when you’re not using them or when you leave a room.

Effective insulation of your hot water cylinder is important, even if you have thin spray foam or a loose 25mm jacket, you can benefit from increasing the insulation to a British Standard Jacket 80mm thick. Insulating your water tank, pipes and radiators is a quick and easy way to save money on your bills.

As we head into the winter months, we know that you will be mindful of your heating. Try to only heat the rooms you need to a level that is comfortable –for most this is between 18°C and 21°C. If this is just 1 degree lower than you normally set it, you could save more than £100 a year on energy bills. If you’re struggling to pay your energy bills, there is help available wherever you are in the UK. The government announced in May that all households would receive £400 off their bills, with monthly payments over six months from October 2022 to Advice At Energy Saving Trust, we know that increasingly high energy bills alongside the cost of living crisis is a concern for many families. to Reduce your Energy Use – and Save Money!

We are working to support households across the UK with impartial advice on energy saving actions, outlining longer term investments to increase energy efficiency and protect homes against future price rises. There is also information on where to go for financial support to help keep you warm for less. We know that many people will have already made changes and adapted to cut back on using energy around the home. Simple, quick energy saving actions are small, but they do add up to reduce energy use and in turn your bills, by several hundred pounds.

Switching to low carbon heating systems, such as a heat pump is an essential part of the transition to address the climate emergency and to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The impact on energy bills if you are installing a heat pump will depend on several factors: including what fuel you are replacing and how much it costs, which type of heat pump you install and its efficiency and the design of your central heating system.

Switching to renewable energy is a long-term commitment and although there will not be dramatic cost savings straight away, consumers can expect to see year-on-year savings as low carbon technology becomes more established. Energy Saving Trust is an independent organisation dedicated to promoting energy efficiency, low carbon transport and sustainable energy use. We aim to address the climate emergency and deliver the wider benefits of clean energy as the UK transitions to net zero. We empower householders to make better choices, deliver transformative programmes for governments and support businesses with strategy, research and assurance –enabling everyone to play their part in building a sustainable future.

A quarter of heat in an uninsulated home is lost through the roof. Most homes have at least some loft insulation, but it is often not enough. Topping up from 120mm to at least the recommended depth of 270mm will help.

19

If your home was built after 1930, it will most likely have cavity walls that can be filled with insulation. If it was built before this date and has solid walls, these can be insulated from either the outside or inside. While there is an outgoing cost, the energy bill savings will be high as it will help to reduce around a third of the total heat loss from your home, if previously uninsulated.

If you are looking to future proof your home against ongoing energy price rises, investing in professional draught-proofing and insulation will have a significant impact on energy use. Stopping draughts is one of the most cost-effective ways to save energy and money in your home and involves blocking gaps that let cold air out around windows, doors, floors and skirting boards.

If you need help to pay your bills, contact your energy supplier to access any available support. The book contains contributions from Bear Grylls, Ed Stafford, Sir Chris Hoy, Judy Murray, Michaela Strachan, Gordon Buchanan, Caroline Lucas, Wayne Bridge and many more, making Wildlings a map to a more adventurous, wilder future. With our warmest thanks to Steve and Helen, they have shared two fantastic activities from the book on the following pages to help get you and your family started on your exciting journey!

Taking you through different environments and activities to explore, from minibeasts in the garden and pond dipping, all the way through to beach Olympics and sea swimming (via rainy days, wild woods and river exploration), there are ideas small and big for all ages that will get them – and you –more engaged and involved with nature, and the wildlife in it.

21

Wildlings - How to raise your family in nature is an accessible guide for rewilding your family. It is one thing to realise how crucial the freedom of the outside world is for the whole family, but Steve and Helen are also aware that it is not always as simple as that. This is where Wildlings comes in.

If you are looking for inspiration, motivation or new activities to add to those you already do, then the new book by husband-and-wife team, Steve Backshall (wildlife and adventure broadcaster and presenter of Deadly 60) and Helen Glover (twotime Olympic champion and triple world champion rower) is a must-read!

Wild at Heart

Activities

Encouraging your children, and the whole family, to enjoy, discover and connect with nature has never been more important. The benefits are endless, from mental and physical wellbeing to education, self-confidence and the pure pleasure being outdoors brings. Factor in the added bonus that many of the activities you can do as a family in nature are often virtually free – critical for many of us at the moment, getting outside to explore is a complete and utter win-win.

22

It’s also something you can practise indoors using furniture as framework and sheets as your tarpaulin; it might not require quite the same techniques but it will certainly give you an idea of some of the skills involved and how teamwork matters. And you still get a pretty cool result. But there is nothing quite like getting out into the woods and building a den from scratch. It’s outdoors, active and creative and you have something to show for it too – what could be better?

 If you can’t find two suitable trees you can easily just use one to prop up your largest branch diagonally, then follow the same method to make a smaller cocoon-like den.

You will need: 

Long branches and/or sticks – the straighter the better  Small bendy sticks for weaving into the framework  Twigs, moss, leaves etc to cover Important to remember:  Only use material that you find on the ground. Don’t damage trees by breaking off sticks and branches  Always dismantle your den when you leave 

If you use rope or string or any other material you haven’t found in the woods, make sure you take it home with you afterwards To make an A-frame – essentially a tent made from branches and sticks – you will need to:  Find two trees with lowish forks. They need to be close enough together to be able to put your longest branch between them.  Then build each side by propping sticks in a row against the long branch  Use the smaller sticks and twigs – the bendier the better – to weave in and out of the upright ones. You should end up with something that looks a bit like a tent-shaped basket. 

Dens are brilliant – as secret hideouts, places to hang out with friends, as birdwatching hides or simply as somewhere to shelter when you are out and about and the weather is a bit iffy. But building them can be a lot of fun too, and a great activity for all ages to get involved in.

Pack dry leaves, grass, moss etc on top to fill in the gaps and create a weatherproof cover. This also helps provide camouflage if you are using your den for bird spotting etc.

How to build an A-frame den in the woods

Add a layer of gravel to the bottom and fill with rainwater (you can always leave buckets/bowls out to collect what you need. Avoid using tap water as the various chemicals found in tap water are not good for the wildlife you want to attract.)

Steve Backshall MBE is an explorer, naturalist, presenter and writer, best known for presenting the ever-popular Deadly 60 on CBBC, but has also presented many adult nature documentaries on the BBC, from Lost Land of the Tiger to Blue Planet Live. He was also on Strictly. He's written a YA series and the Deadly 60 books, and one adult non-fiction title, Expedition, published by BBC Books.

Dig a hole big enough to sink your pot/bowl into the ground. If that’s not possible it’s fine to keep it on the lawn or patio – just make sure there’s easy access for any creatures who set up camp there.

(If your pot isn’t watertight you can fix that by using pond liner – easily available from any garden centre. And if you don’t have a suitable container you can simply make a hole and line it in the same way.)

Helen Glover MBE is the former number 1 British rower who won Olympic gold twice, as well as being a World, World Cup and European record holder. She was also the first mother to make it back onto the Olympic rowing team (one year after having twins, after training by herself at home during lockdown). Wildlings by Steve Backshall & Helen Glover is out now published by Two Roads

One easy way to get started is to use an old washing-up bowl or large plant pot as your base.

It doesn’t need to be big to attract the likes of frogs, newts and dragonflies. And ponds have other plusses too; they make excellent bathing spots, watering holes and all-you-can-eat buffets for various other animals and birds. All the more reason to think about building one.

About the authors

First work out where you want it to go. For wildlife to thrive it will need plenty of light, but you should avoid putting it somewhere that gets constant sunlight and no shade.

Patience will pay dividends. Don’t add wildlife from other ponds. Wait and watch and soon the creatures will come.

23

If you have a garden and want to entice more wildlife to it, then creating a pond is a great way to get started.

In very hot weather you may need to add more (rain) water to keep your pond topped up.

Add pondweed and other plants. Always use special aquatic pots and pond-friendly soil –garden centres can advise on these – and don’t go for anything too big for a small space. Lesser spearwort and miniature waterlilies are ideal.

For many of us, the weeks leading up to Christmas are some of the most expensive of the year. The festive preparations can pile extra pressure on our finances and the colder, shorter days can push up energy costs. Nick Hill, a money expert at the Money and Pensions Service outlines some measures you can take to make it a little easier.

How Much Should I Save for Christmas? Advice

Setting a budget can help you avoid spending more than you can manage and will give you a clear picture of what costs you need to cover.

Discounts and cashback are a good way to make savings. Always shop around to see if you can find a better deal as some websites may offer discount in the leader up to Christmas.

This year particularly will be different for many of us, and some may be feeling the squeeze for the first time this year due to the rising cost of living. If you’re worried about the expense that often comes with the festive celebrations and starting the New Year with Christmas debt, making a plan as early as possible for how you’ll pay for Christmas will help take some of the pressure off.

 Work out what you can afford

Last year, YouGov’s annual Christmas spending tracker revealed that the average person expected to spend £1,108 during the festive season – which included presents and gifts, food and drink, travel, among other expenses. You should work out what you can afford first before you start planning.

Pressure to please loved ones and to give children the perfect Christmas tops the list of reasons people overspend during the festive season.

A good way to tackle this is make a list of family and friends you will be buying presents for and allocate an amount for each person. Christmas shopping on impulse is dangerous so make a list and stick to it.

The best thing you can do to ease the financial pressure of Christmas is to plan ahead. It’s difficult to pay for Christmas out of single month’s income alone, so look at how you can divert some income from the months before and after to help.

Discounts and cashback

Cashback is offered as an enticement to make you spend, and possibly on things you might not have bought in the first place. But if you’re planning on buying something anyway, it can be a good way to make Cashbacksavings.websites act as the middle man between you and online retailers, and in return they give you a cut of the commission. If you follow the instructions on the site carefully you should be able to quickly build up a reasonable amount. The top two are Quidco and

Debt worries over Christmas? Get help

The pandemic and rising cost of living has put extra strain on the finances of many people this year. If you’re worried about this –know you are not alone. There are a number of resources on the MoneyHelper website to help people, from what to do if you’re worried about energy bills rising to help if you’re struggling with your MoneySavingExpertbills. also has a long list of tips to help you make some savings this Christmas at christmas-savingswww.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/

Talk to your friends and family

At best, that could be money used for something far more worthwhile. At worst, it could leave you with debt you might struggle to pay off.

It might seem easy now to pay for presents on your credit card or even take out a short-term loan but borrowing money to cover your Christmas spend could come at a price in interest and fees.

Borrowing for Christmas

 Give the gift of savings to the young people in your life Rather than giving gifts, consider putting the money you intended to spend on Christmas presents into a savings account for your own children or young relatives instead. It not only starts their adult lives with some savings, but also gets them involved early in helping them learn important lessons about money. You can find some useful guidance about how to save for children on the MoneyHelper website at types-of-savings/saving-for-your-childrenwww.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/

Many people will be struggling this Christmas, so if you’re spending too much on presents for loved ones, they might feel the pressure to spend the same amount on you, even if they can’t afford to.

 Grab end-of-Christmas bargains

You could mutually agree to not give unnecessary presents to friends or family, organise a Secret Santa instead of buying gifts for everyone, or instead agree a cap on spending to something that is more manageable for everyone. Money worries are part of everyday life and something that everyone experiences, especially at this time of year. Whether you reach out to a family member, friend or a money guidance professional, talking about money is a positive way to ease the burden.

If you’re struggling with money, you can talk to a specialist today, online or by phone, who will be able to help you start sorting out your financial problems. Visit moneyhelper.org.uk or call 0800 138 7777 for free, confidential and impartial guidance.

It may seem far too early to start thinking about next Christmas, but you can make savings by picking up next years Christmas cards, gift wrap and decorations in the Boxing Day and January sales.

Although discounts and cashback may be enticing, try not to see this as a reason to spend more than you usually would and stick to what you can afford.

Paying back the debt could be expensive and if you miss payments there’ll be a negative impact on your credit report. It could affect your future ability to get any type of credit so you should consider whether you need to borrow the money at all.

Plant-Based Made Easy

I make this recipe all the time for the girls, it’s brilliant and they absolutely love it. It’s soft and spongy and the prunes or dates make the loaf lovely and sweet – you really don’t miss sugar at all. It’s perfect on its own, but equally delicious as a pudding with coconut yoghurt. Makes 1 loaf You will need  200g self-raising flour, sifted  1 tsp baking powder  3 very ripe bananas, mashed  4 tbsp coconut yoghurt  75ml olive oil, plus extra for greasing  1 tsp vanilla bean paste

 100g prunes or medjool dates, chopped  1 tbsp ground flaxseed  75g sultanas or raisins

The most vibrant dish in the book, this bright pink spaghetti is a real winner. The mix of walnuts, pine nuts and white beans gives it a lovely texture, the coconut milk makes it beautifully creamy. The beets bring the colour and the garlic and parsley really add to the flavour. The result is sweet and mild, almost like a korma sauce. Serves 4 You will need  100g walnuts  50g pine nuts

 300g cooked beetroot, drained, peeled and roughly chopped  25g flat-leaf parsley, roughly chopped  3 tbsp olive oil  1 red onion, finely sliced  1 garlic clove, finely sliced  1 × 400g tin of small white beans (cannellini or haricot), drained

Stir in the garlic and fry for another minute. ➌ Transfer the beetroot purée to the pan along with the beans and coconut milk and mix everything together.
