WHAT DOES PRATT MUNSON MEAN TO YOU?

Without being dramatic, Pratt Munson means everything to me. It is the most sparkling, special place, and I can’t believe that I didn’t dream it up. Over the years, have had waves of gratitude that was able to be a part of the Pratt Munson community and learn from the best professors I’ve ever had across my experiences in higher education. My ongoing goal now is to craft my life in a way where my day-to-day feels as close to being at Pratt Munson as possible.

Pratt

Munson’s program is so robust. I was able to gain pedagogical knowledge toward becoming a teacher while learning the necessary skills to have a career as a painter, as well.

Pratt Munson provided me with the foundation I needed to continue my educational path, teach, help run a school, and become a working artist. I credit Pratt Munson for feeding my love of learning, which led me to further my education in both informal and formal settings. Almost all of my studio knowledge of materials, technique, and design is from Pratt Munson, and I am able to work as a professional artist using this toolset.

Brittany Miller attended Pratt Munson ’10, earned her BFA/MS in Art Education from Pratt Institute ’13, and earned her MA in Early Childhood Education from Columbia University ’23.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE PRATT MUNSON?

When first heard about the student-to-faculty ratio at Pratt Munson, was instantly intrigued. I was never one to really connect on a deeper level with any teachers until now.

I attribute all of my successes in the past year to the wickedly talented faculty and creative peers who bolster my self-confidence.

Before Pratt Munson. had never painted, touched charcoal, sculpted, or sewn before, yet now I think of these mediums as fundamental to my practice. The foundational year is a love letter to the convention of art in itself; even if you think certain lessons may never be of use to you, you find yourself continually relying on the tracks you built from your first year moving into your second.

WHAT DOES PRATT MUNSON MEAN TO YOU?

Pratt Munson means so much to me in many aspects and unexplainable joys. It means blossoming into the artist I am now, furthering my education alongside those equally passionate about it, and unearthing new facets of my artistic technique in every assignment.

As an illustrator, Jodie utilizes a mix of digital and traditional media. She thrives on eclecticism and creativity without limitations, blending styles like realism with fantastical absurdity. She is continuously dipping her digital paintbrush into niche pop culture, referencing everything from classical literature to modern cartoons.

We have time to pour love and energy into our craft, and by looking at other students’ work, it’s clear that everyone here is truly passionate about what they do.
