E STREET DRUMMER PLAYS YOUR SELECTIONS CONCERTS IN THE COURT April 27 • 7:30 p.m.
Rock and roll legend E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg plays what you want to hear as Concerts in the Court presents Max Weinberg’s Jukebox 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27 in the Edward Wales Root Sculpture Court. In this high-energy interactive experience, Weinberg invites the audience to create, in real time, the set list he and his crack four-piece group will play that night. The group will perform songs from the glory days of rock and roll, as audience members choose from a menu of more than 200 songs from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The E Street Band (of course), and many more. “Mighty Max” Weinberg, the driving rhythmic force propelling The E Street Band for 43 years, is also known to millions of fans for his 17-year stint as the bandleader and comedic foil to talk show host Conan O’Brien on NBC’s “Late Night” and “The Tonight Show.” Throughout his 50-year professional career, Weinberg has played with some of the biggest and most diverse names in music—James Brown, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, B.B. King, Tony Bennett, Ringo Starr, John Fogerty, Stevie Winwood, Sheryl Crow, and Isaac Hayes. Weinberg also has the distinction of being the drummer on two of the biggest-selling rock albums in history—Bruce Springsteen’s Born In The USA and Meatloaf’s Bat Out Of Hell. Tickets for this performance are $46.50 for MWPAI members, $51.50 for general public.
VIP Packages with Max! Special VIP Packages are available that include the concert, one photo opportunity with Weinberg after the show, and up to three personalized autographs. Packages are $161.50 for MWPAI members, $166.50 for general public. For all tickets contact the Performing Arts Ticket Office at 315-797-0055 or 1-800-754-0797. Tickets are also available online at mwpai.org. The Museum opens at 6:30 p.m. so that patrons may view the current exhibitions, socialize, and visit the Museum Shop. Museum of Art MYSTERIOUS, MARVELOUS, MALEVOLENT: THE ART OF ELIHU VEDDER
On view April 5 through December 29
Journey into the dark realm of vision, nightmare, and dream with Mysterious, Marvelous, Malevolent: The Art of Elihu Vedder, April 5 through December 29 in the Museum of Art. Since its first public appearance in 1863, Elihu Vedder’s The Questioner of the Sphinx has been a mystery. It is part of a group of bizarre and visionary paintings, drawings, and book illustrations that Vedder (1836–1923) began to create in New York City at the outset of the American Civil War. Prior to this, he had spent three years abroad while studying in Paris and Florence. There, he produced mostly bucolic studies of the Italian countryside. When he returned to New York City in 1861, he made an abrupt and radical departure into portraying the mysterious and the dangerous. Discover Vedder’s journey into the realm of vision, nightmare, and dream. Explore how Vedder may have used ancient myths and legends of the monstrous, the terrible, and the fantastic to negotiate the horror, destruction, and alienation engendered by the national crisis of the American Civil War. This MWPAI Museum of Art exhibition is a collaboration made possible by the Art Bridges - Terra Initiative.

BOX OF ART IS Marcel Duchamp (American, born France, 1887-1968) is the grandfather of conceptual art; he was revolutionary in that he subverted ideas about handicraft and originality, believing that ideas rather than virtuoso skill were more important for successful art-making. His methods using chance processes and mechanical production have been influential for generations of artists. This spring, visit the Cardamone Gallery to see the latest installation of Your Land, My Land: Immigrant Artists in the United States. The Museum of Art proudly displays Marcel Duchamp’s + + Boite-en-valise, his museum in miniature, which represents the most complete example of the Marcel Duchamp (American, born France, 1887-1968), work of Marcel Duchamp between 1910 and 1937. SPRING INTO ART! April is a time of reawakening: the earth thaws and many cultures celebrate the renewal of life with centuries-old religious traditions including Easter and Passover. Perennials peek out of the earth and, if we’re lucky, our lawns turn green and the yellow blooms of forsythia and daffodils brighten our days. April also means spring break and Art Alive! Family Day with the The DuffleBag Theatre Company performance of Peter Pan. Generous support from the F.X. Matt II Memorial Fund makes Art Alive! possible. Mrs. Lillian Matt, notes that Mr. Matt left the fund “so that children could expand their interest in art, and learn to think individually, because art can change their lives.” Art has the ability to transform children’s lives. You can support programs like Art Alive! Call 315-797-0000, ext. 2297, or send a donation in the envelope you’ll find in your Bulletin. Thank you!
