THE KALEIDOSCOPIC GENIUS OF LOUIS COMFORT TIFFANY ILLUMINATES THE MUSEUM June 16 through September 8
Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection opens to members with our Gala Preview 8 p.m. Saturday, June 15. Join us for a night of brillant art, music, food, and a stunning performance. A celebration of luminous beauty, Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection features more than 60 artworks, spanning over 30 years of Tiffany’s prolific career. This exhibition focuses on Tiffany’s brilliant stained-glass windows, iridescent floral vases, shimmering lamps, and innovative accessories highlighting masterworks never before presented in a comprehensive exhibition. Tiffany was one of America’s preeminent designers of decorative arts and interiors. Under his artistic direction and using enamels, metalwork, precious stones, wood, ceramics, and, of course, glass, the artisans employed at Tiffany Studios fashioned beautiful objects for public commissions and private residences. Tiffany’s technical brilliance in a wide variety of media enabled him to convey his awe of the natural world through a range of objects, from household items to singular masterpieces. He earned international acclaim for his artistic output, receiving prestigious awards in exhibitions across Europe and the United States. His work was enthusiastically collected by art museums and private collectors throughout his lifetime and continues to be highly sought after today. The artworks in this exhibition reveal Tiffany’s renowned artistry and craftsmanship through Chicago’s distinguished private Richard H. Driehaus Collection. Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection was organized by the Richard H. Driehaus Museum and is toured by International Arts & Artists, Washington, D.C. This show is traveling the United States and MWPAI is the only northeast venue.

BACK WITH A NEW PERFORMANCE! RADIO’S FASCINATIN’ RHYTHM HOST MICHAEL LASSER PRESENTS E-LEC-TRI-CI-TY! SONGS FROM THE TIME OF TIFFANY Sunday, July 21, 2 p.m. $15 MWPAI members, $25 general public, $10 students For more than 35 years, radio personality and music historian Michael Lasser has been speaking about popular music as social history, about songs and the America they reflect. In this program, singer Cindy Miller and singer/pianist Alan Jones perform songs from the time of Louis C. Tiffany with insight and delight, while Lasser gives entertaining historical context. In the years before World War I, when Tiffany was providing a way to make electric light beautiful, America hitched its new horseless carriage to a technological star. Our songwriters were there to give voice to a time when age-old dreams became commonplace reality. Book signing follows with light refreshments and a cash bar.

Development WHY LOYAL DONORS MATTER SO MUCH Most loyal donors support Munson-Williams-Proctor because they believe in creating a welcoming place that makes art more accessible and meaningful to all. Each year, a retired woman in Whitesboro comes to films and live musical performances. She has a modest income, but she makes sure she renews her membership so that she continues to support these events that she loves. Another donor enjoys opera and exhibition openings. She’s been giving steadily for the past 17 years, renewing her membership and adding a little for the Annual Fund whenever she can. When she was a girl, she loved to draw. Now she loves to visit the galleries to have her mind opened by surprising images—sometimes stunningly gorgeous, sometimes deeply thought provoking. What does it mean to be a loyal donor to MWPAI? It means you believe that art is essential. You understand that art makes a difference to the quality of life in this community and to your own quality of life. Loyal donors matter because they are the bedrock and foundation of this institution, the basis for our existence. They are a significant source of support and a major connection to the community. How can you become a loyal donor? Renew your membership, give to the annual fund, then continue to give. At MWPAI, we recognize loyal donors when they have given steadily for 10 years. We celebrate their milestones of support. This year MWPAI will be hosting a special party to thank its loyal donors for the very special role they play in helping the Institute keep the arts alive for this community. You can join this special group. Become a member or make a gift today. Thank you!
THANK YOU TIFFANY EXHIBITION SPONSORS Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection would not be possible without grant support and the exceptional generosity of local sponsors. It is an honor to be supported by important local businesses and individuals. MWPAI appreciates the assistance of our lead sponsors, Baird Private Wealth Management and Empire State Development’s I Love New York program under the Market New York initiative. Associate sponsor Meyda Lighting is a natural partner for this exhibition, and Sangertown Square will once again supports us as an associate sponsor. This exhibition will be accompanied by a full spectrum of fabulous programs, thanks to Elizabeth R. Lemieux, Ph.D. The Museum’s summer exhibitions draw crowds from across New York and well beyond. Each summer, the Museum has visitors from nearly every state, Canada, and Europe. These visitors help support all of our community. Our extensive marketing campaign would not be possible if not for grant support from Empire State Development. 11
