Become a Docent The Museum of Art Education Department is accepting applications for the 2020–2021 docent-training program that begins in September. Candidates should have an enthusiastic and friendly attitude, the ability to communicate effectively with groups, a strong interest in art, and available time for training and presentation of tours. It is not necessary that candidates have prior knowledge of art history, public speaking experience, or teaching credentials. Candidates will commit to a training program that prepares them with presentation skills, general art history background, and information on the Museum's collection and special exhibitions. The training is broad-based and offers opportunities for new friendships, continued personal growth, and learning techniques to engage museum visitors. Candidates will expand their understanding of art and be challenged by new ideas. The docent program is a productive way to invest your volunteer time while sharing your love of the arts with others. Please contact Amy Francisco, Educator for Docent and Tour Programs, afrancisco@mwpai.edu, 315-797-0000, ext. 2170, by July 16 for further information and an application. 5

LOCAL ARTIST SHOWCASE MARY GIEHL AND MARC-ANTHONY POLIZZI Friday, July 2, through Thursday, August 5 Installation artist Marc-Anthony Polizzi (Utica, NY) and multimedia artist Mary Giehl (Syracuse, NY) will be presenting their work in an exciting exhibition as part of the PrattMWP Gallery’s annual Local Artist Showcase. Mary Giehl’s work is influenced through her experience as a Registered Nurse in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, often attending to children after they have been abused. There are Mary Giehl, Dancing Neurons , 2019. Glass beads, silk organza, velvet, 17.5in x 17.5in x 1.5in
hints of darkness and confinement in her installations along with a mixture and balance of playfulness and seriousness. Visit marygiehl.com Marc-Anthony Polizzi’s work uses a process of reconstruction and unification to examine the domesticated chaos of the post-consumer world. This area, where the relatively ordered and relatively disordered coexist and interact, might seem like a contradiction, considering the more austere and violent sense of chaos. However, it is in this gray area in which he constructs his work. Visit mapolizzi.com
