CREATE YOURSELF

BE THE ARTIST YOU WANT TO BE

Maggie Henry, Sophomore

At PrattMWP, from sunrise to sunset, you can immerse yourself in the world of art—a world that includes your studies, your social life, your living space—an incomparable experience. You will become the artist you always wanted to be.

“We concentrate on a particular subject. If what you want to do is art, it is best to go to a school that focuses solely on art. Naomi Masingale,

William Goertzel, Sophomore

Freshman, Syracuse, NY

CREATE your artistic future

3

PrattMWP is the Upstate New York campus of the prestigious Pratt Institute. Here you will find the perfect balance of exceptional, personalized instruction in small classes and a friendly, comfortable lifestyle.

4

Start here for the first two years of your bachelor of fine arts degree.

Live and learn at one of the nation’s elite and fully accredited art schools.

Study Fine Arts, Communications Design, or Art and Design Education.

Enjoy a modern campus that offers the best in living and learning facilities.

5

“You refine what you come here with. Everyone comes in with some talent and after a year you’ve moved to the next level.”

Alexander Zingaro, Sophomore

Katelyn Snyder – Freshman, Buffalo, NY

6

After two years, most students relocate to Pratt Institute’s main campus in Brooklyn, the largest independent college of art and design in the country, while some transfer to other colleges.

7

“It’s great being close with other artists. We all share the same basic feelings and help each other. There’s no animosity but a friendly competition for personal growth. We help each other grow.” Alex Gates Sophomore, Fabius, NY

Create an incredibly affordable art education

You will love the highly creative artistic environment, and your parents will appreciate the low cost. Generous financial aid packages include grants and scholarships that make PrattMWP more affordable than any other quality private art school.

11

Our financial aid program is as generous as they get. Ninety-seven percent of students receive considerable financial assistance. On average, our financial aid covers about half of your tuition.

“Trying to find money for my children to attend school was always an issue. Without the exceptional financial aid offered at PrattMWP my son would not have been able to attend.” Diane Goodrich – Owego, New York

12

CREATE YOURSELF IN AN INTIMATE ENVIRONMENT

Max Rose, Sophomore

If you prefer to be just another face on a huge campus, this is not the college for you. Here you will enjoy small classes, dedicated professors and exceptional facilities. Students and instructors get to know each other in a meaningful way and everyone learns and grows through these special relationships.

14

With a total school enrollment of fewer than 200 students, you'll be in studio classes with 12 to 15 fellow artists. This means you will benefit from real one-on-one guidance from the faculty.

15

Facilities designed for and by artists maximize your skills and creativity.

16

“The projects are crazy and interesting. At first you don’t think you can do them and then when you’re done, you’re impressed with yourself.” Jessica McLaughlin Freshman, Basking Ridge, NJ

Mary Khoun, Sophomore

17

“It’s a heavy workload, but you enjoy it. It gives you a good feeling of accomplishment. There’s pressure, but it’s good pressure.”

Victor Sun, Sophomore

Alyssa Burnham, Sophomore, Queensbury, NY

18

Create With people like you

19

You will be surrounded by people who understand you and your creative interests.

We have impressive diversity among our students, but they all speak the common language of art.

You can’t beat living and learning exclusively with art students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

20

“We build strong bonds and good friendships with each other. Because we work together after class, our creativity grows through our friendship. Charles Freihofer, Sophomore, Lake George, NY

A renowned Museum of Art. As a student you will have the rare opportunity to show your artwork in the Museum of Art, alongside the Museum’s phenomenal collection, during the Annual Student Exhibition. You will see your drawings, paintings or sculptures just a few steps away from masterpieces by Jackson Pollock, Thomas Cole, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Wassily Kandinsky and scores of other legendary artists.

A superb Performing Arts program. You will also enjoy the Institute’s Performing Arts Division, which presents more than 100 events each year, bringing world-class performers to the campus or to the nearby historic Stanley Theater. Events feature legendary acts in dance, jazz and classical music, including the Moscow Ballet, Wynton Marsalis, Bela Fleck and many others. In addition, a weekly film series offers the finest in first-run independent and alternative films. 42

The Museum of Art, a centerpiece of the campus, was designed by award-winning architect Philip Johnson. The Museum is considered by many to be the finest in the state outside of New York City. 43

THE PRATT CONNECTION

A unique joint program. PrattMWP

PrattMWP is an alliance between two prestigious institutions: Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., and the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, N.Y., offering students an extraordinary educational opportunity.

A great first step. Spend the first two years working toward your bachelor of fine arts degree program at our Pratt Brooklyn

beautiful campus in Central New York, and then complete your degree at Pratt’s main campus in Brooklyn.

A famous course of instruction. Founded in 1887, Pratt Institute (www.pratt.edu) is the largest independent college of art and design in the country. An internationally famous art school, it offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the schools of architecture, art and design, information and library science, and liberal arts and sciences.

A fully accredited program. PrattMWP is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, Middle States Association, and the New York State Education Department.

44

CREATE YOUR FUTURE Becky Powell, a 2002 graduate of PrattMWP, was the “Outstanding Graduate” of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York in 2004. Becky credits PrattMWP and its faculty for much of her success. The quality of instruction and individual attention resulted in a strong body of work that made her transition to the Brooklyn campus an easy one. Since then, Becky has earned her Master of Science degree in Education at University of Pennsylvania.

Shiloh Gray, a 2005 graduate of PrattMWP, placed first in a prestigious international design competition sponsored by Print magazine. Despite competing against primarily seniors, Shiloh’s design was selected from a field that included entrants from colleges throughout the world. Shiloh was just a sophomore when his winning design was chosen to be displayed on the cover of Print magazine in its March/April 2006 edition. Shiloh’s classmate, Samuel J. Jackson, received honorable mention for his design.

Maggie Henry and Joshua Wahila, both 2007 graduates of PrattMWP, were among four students nationwide selected to participate in the United States Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program. Students and professional artists were asked to submit drawings of coins depicting the founding of Jamestown. Both sophomore Communications Design students when they entered their designs, were then invited to participate in an exclusive three-week summer internship at the Mint in Philadelphia with master engraver John Merconti. They were also given a one-year contract with the Mint and each year will be invited to submit coin designs.

45
