"The idea for Intimately Yours came from envisioning great acts and legendary musicians performing pop, rock, and folk music in our historic venue. We created the cool retro sign that is the logo for the series with the help of our graphic designer Andree Van Oss—I remember sitting with her and drawing out in my best third grade style what I wanted the sign to look like. Deputy Director of Programming Thérèse LaGamma and I initially worked with New Hampshire promoter Joe Fletcher to book great names, but as Joe moved on we got our teeth in the business. Our background promoting music—Thérèse in Boston and mine in the Twin Cities—really kicked in so that everyone from Bright Eyes to Tony Bennett and from Joan Baez to Civil Wars has been part of the series—and what a ride it's been!" –Patricia Lynch, Executive Director Tony Bennett

"After more than 150 Intimately Yours concerts to date, what really stays with me is the overall experience of hosting artists and their crew in The Music Hall. Groups from The Wailers to the B-52s have expressed to us that it was one of the most enjoyable dates on their tour and that is something I take great pride in. Have there been “star moments?” Yeah, a few. Hearing David Crosby mutter to his monitor engineer as he exited the stage, “That was a great &%$@%^ set!” is probably among my favorites; others maybe I shouldn’t divulge… "

Intimately Yours: A Decade of Great Music "It is no surprise that so many of our Intimately Yours artists fall in love with both the theater and the town of Portsmouth. Behind the scenes is a hive of activity involving everyone from tour managers to bus drivers and from artists to production crews. Merle Haggard's tour manager had been with him for over thirty years and shared many colorful stories. Meeting Mavis Staples was a highlight—she has a delightful sense of humor. Andrew Bird test drove his spinning double-horn speakers on our stage during a memorable debut solo performance. It was thrilling to see the legendary Crosby and Nash perform their hit songs from the Music Hall's opera box and magical watching the audience rise to their feet for much of Lucius' stunningly beautiful show."
Buika
–Thérèse LaGamma, Deputy Dir. of Programming/ Performing Arts Curator "I was a music major in college, taught music at the university level, and played jazz and classical music professionally, so my love of music is more than casual. Being able to say that I was on the stage (even in the wings as a photographer) with some of my longtime favorite musicians, such as Joshua Bell, Herbie Hancock, and Bela Fleck, is a real treat. I also love being introduced to new young musicians—I had never heard of Buika until she came to The Music Hall, and now I listen to her regularly." –David Murray, Photographer 10
