THE EAGLE HUNTRESS
G • 1h 27m • UK 12/27, 12/28, 12/30 @ 7pm This documentary follows Aisholpan, a 13-year-old girl, as she trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter, and rises to the pinnacle of a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for centuries. Set against the breath-taking expanse of the Mongolian steppe, the film features some of the most awe-inspiring cinematography ever captured in a documentary, giving this intimate tale of a young girl's quest the dramatic force of an epic narrative film.
CAMERAPERSON
extraordinary cinema
NR • 1h 42m • US 11/26, 11/27, 11/29, 11/30, 12/1 @ 7pm A boxing match in Brooklyn; life in postwar Bosnia and Herzegovina; the daily routine of a Nigerian midwife; an intimate family moment at home: these scenes and others are woven into Cameraperson, a tapestry of footage collected over the twenty-five-year career of documentary cinematographer Kirsten Johnson.
CERTAIN WOMEN
R • 1h 47m • US 12/6, 12/10, 12/13 @ 7pm One of America’s foremost filmmakers, Kelly Reichardt (Wendy and Lucy, Meek’s Cutoff, Old Joy) directs a remarkable ensemble cast led by Michelle Williams, Kristen Stewart, and Laura Dern in this stirring look at three women striving to forge their own paths amidst the wide-open plains of the American Northwest. As their stories intersect in subtle but powerful ways, a portrait emerges of strong-willed individuals in the process of defining themselves.
HARRY & SNOWMAN
NR • 1h 24m • US 12/15, 12/17, 12/21, 12/22 @ 7pm Dutch immigrant, Harry deLeyer, journeyed to the United States after World War II and developed a transformative relationship with a broken down Amish plow horse he rescued off a slaughter truck bound for the glue factory. Harry paid eighty dollars for the horse and named him Snowman. In less than two years, Harry & Snowman went on to win the triple crown of show jumping, beating the nation's blue bloods.
OASIS: SUPERSONIC
R • 2h • UK 12/28, 12/30 @ 7pm From the Oscar-winning producers of Amy comes this essential and entertaining look at the meteoric rise of the seminal '90s rock band Oasis. HERE & NOW Help Us Make Some Magic
by Charlotte Harris
There’s something about this time of year that brings back memories of times past and traditions shared. One of the Seacoast’s most cherished seasonal traditions is Vintage Christmas in Portsmouth.
This year, The Music Hall decided to change up how we celebrated #GivingTuesday, instead of asking for your help with a capital campaign, we have asked our patrons to help us Give the Gift of Magic to local families in need. We teamed up with our community partner Families First Health and Support Center to give their families tickets to the Ogunquit Playhouse’s production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast the Broadway musical that is currently on stage at the Historic Theater. Thanks to all of you who have already donated so generously, The Music Hall has matched the first $1000. Meaning that we are able to make the holiday season a little more magical for local families. We are still collecting donations through December 7. If you haven’t already donated, or if you’d like to make another donation, there are several ways to take part. If you are buying tickets to any show or movie online, you can check the box to add a donation to your ticket order, you can also call or visit our box office to donate. Donate online under the Support Us tab. Your tax-deductible donations are helping families experience the awe-inspiring performance of a tale as old as time packed full of Broadway magic. Thank you all for helping us share the #MagicOfBeauty.
Be One and Gift One This Holiday Season Music Hall membership has a lot of great perks, and this month we’re adding a new one. If you join, renew, or upgrade in December, we’ll give you one Friend-level membership to give as a gift. What better gift to give someone than a gift that they can use all year long? This gift gives them access to advanced ticket purchases for Music Hall events, special discounts all around Portsmouth, an invitation to a special member appreciation party, a copy of our monthly magazine, NOW @ The Music Hall, their name listed in our playbill, and insider announcements emailed to them. With new shows going on sale every month, these benefits really add up. All you have to do is pick a special person on your list who isn’t currently a member and we will take care of the rest. To take advantage of this fantastic offer contact our Membership Coordinator Alexis Hahalis at (603) 766-2176 or at AHahalis@themusichall.org. NOW
