DON'T THINK TWICE R • 1h 32m • US 10/30 @ 3pm; 11/1, 11/2, 11/3 @ 7pm When a member of a popular New York City improv troupe gets cast on a hit TV show, the rest of the group - all best friends - start to realize that not everyone is going to make it after all. From the director of Sleepwalk With Me and the creator of This American Life comes this critically acclaimed comedy packed with comic stars Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs, Mike Birbiglia, Kate Micucci, Chris Gethard, and Tami Sagher that presents a hilarious and honest look at the lives of professional funny people.

GIMME DANGER

NR • 1h 48m • US 11/5, 11/6 @ 7pm Emerging from Ann Arbor Michigan amidst a counter-cultural revolution, The Stooges' powerful and aggressive style of rock-n-roll blew a crater in the musical landscape of the late 1960s. With Iggy Pop as front-man, assaulting audiences with a blend of rock, blues, R&B, and free jazz, the band planted the seeds for what would be called punk and alternative rock in the decades that followed. Jim Jarmusch's new film chronicles the story of The Stooges, one of the greatest rock-n-roll bands of all time.

HOWARD'S END (RESTORATION) PG • 2h 22m • UK 11/6 @ 3pm; 11/8, 11/10 @ 7pm Beautifully restored in high definition. This adaptation of E. M. Forster's classic 1910 novel shows in careful detail the injuriously rigid British class consciousness of the early 20th century. The film's catalyst is "poor relation" Margaret Schlegel (Emma Thompson), who inherits part of the estate of Ruth Wilcox (Vanessa Redgrave), an upper-class woman whom she had befriended. The film's principal characters are divided by caste: aristocratic industrial Henry Wilcox (Anthony Hopkins); middle-echelon Margaret and her sister Helen (Helena Bonham Carter); and working-class clerk Leonard Bast (Sam West) and his wife (Nicola Duffett). Nominated for 9 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.

SULLY

PG-13 • 1h 36m • US 11/11, 11/12, 11/15, 11/17 @ 7pm Tom Hanks stars in this thrilling portrait of heroic airline pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, re-enacting his incredible successful emergency landing of an Airbus A320 full of passengers on the Hudson River. Also stars Laura Linney and Aaron Eckhart. Directed by Clint Eastwood.

LO AND BEHOLD

PG-13 • 1h 38m • US 10/30, 11/1, 11/2 @ 7pm The latest from master documentarian, Werner Herzog. Society depends on the Internet for nearly everything but rarely do we step back and recognize its endless intricacies and unsettling omnipotence. Herzog explores - in a playful yet chilling examination - our rapidly interconnecting online lives.

A MAN CALLED OVE

PG-13 • 1h 56m • Sweden (subtitled) 11/18, 11/19, 11/20 @ 7pm Stepping from the pages of Fredrik Backman's international best-selling novel, Ove is the quintessential angry old man next door. An isolated retiree with strict principles and a short fuse, who spends his days enforcing block association rules that only he cares about, and visiting his wife's grave, Ove has given up on life. Enter a boisterous young family next door who accidentally flattens Ove's mailbox while moving in and earning his special brand of ire. ,

CAMERAPERSON

NR • 1h 42m • US 11/26, 11/27, 11/29, 11/30, 12/1 @ 7pm A boxing match in Brooklyn; life in postwar Bosnia and Herzegovina; the daily routine of a Nigerian midwife; an intimate family moment at home: these scenes and others are woven into Cameraperson, a tapestry of footage collected over the twenty-five-year career of documentary cinematographer Kirsten Johnson. A hybrid work that combines documentary, autobiography, and ethical inquiry, Cameraperson is both a moving glimpse into one filmmaker's personal journey and a thoughtful examination of what it means to train a camera on the world.

Upcoming Events

Since 2011, The Music Hall’s Innovation + Leadership series has brought together thought leaders, authors, and educators to share experiences and provide participants with tools for making meaningful advances in their lives. This season, we are pleased to introduce the first Presenting Sponsor for this series, Alnôba.

Wed., November 9 Directors Club Coastal Canine Resort Mon., November 14 Book Club- Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris Cleave

Situated on 400 acres in Kensington, NH, Alnôba is a new retreat and event facility focused on leadership, wellness, and creativity. Opened this Fall by the Lewis Family Foundation, it is the first passive house of its kind in New England. Its name—a word from the Abenaki tribe, means “being or becoming human.” Alan and Harriet Lewis established the Foundation in 1981, and Alnôba brings together several of its initiatives, including the Pinnacle Leadership Center, Sawyer Park, and The Farm at Eastman’s Corner. Through Alnôba, Alan and Harriet hope to create a place for the community to gather, share, learn, and be inspired. It is this commitment to community building and personal development that makes Alnôba an ideal partner for this series. According to Music Hall Director of Institutional Advancement Gail VanHoy Carolan, “Their mission speaks to our programming, as we share a common desire to bring people together to continue life-long learning, stimulate dialogue, and motivate change.” “We are very pleased to partner with The Music Hall and hope that participants will fully engage and embrace the opportunities they find to enhance their lives,” said Harriet Lewis. “Alan and I salute The Music Hall for launching such an inspiring and exciting series.” To learn more about Alnôba, visit Alnoba.org.

This holiday season, with your help, The Music Hall will provide Seacoast families with tickets to the Ogunquit Playhouse production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast the Broadway Musical. This magical musical with stunning costumes and sets and awe-inspiring special effects, all wrapped up in our festively decorated Historic Theater, is sure to put everyone in the spirit of the season. We need your help: From now through December 7, every time you purchase a ticket to any show at The Music Hall you can give an additional, tax-deductible donation to help us provide Beauty and the Beast tickets to families in need, chosen by Families First Health & Support Center in Portsmouth. Donations are also accepted online at TheMusicHall.org, in person, or over the phone by calling (603) 436-2400. “We are very thankful to The Music Hall for selecting our families to be recipients of these Beauty and the Beast tickets,” says Families First Executive Director Helen Taft. “Many of our clients struggle with just keeping up with bills, rent, and groceries. Being able to take your little ones to see their favorite princess in person is only a very distant dream for some parents. These tickets will allow parents to give their kids an experience they wouldn’t have had otherwise.”

School Days SerieS

Adds Chris Curtis, Film and Outreach Manager for The Music Hall: “One of the favorite parts of my job is to help facilitate community outreach programs like this one with Families First. It’s rewarding for all of us here to know that more local families will enjoy the holiday magic of Beauty and the Beast this season, thanks to our wonderful patrons. Over the last 22 years, we have welcomed local elementary aged children into our theater to introduce them to the magical world of live theater. As a growing body of research has shown us, exposure to high quality arts experiences, specifically at a young age, has a direct connection to a wide spectrum of academic and social benefits. This year, we have partnered with D.F. Richard Energy and the National Endowment for the Arts to give 600 Title I elementary school children and chaperones the ability to experience live theater on our historic stage. Our School Days Series scholarship program not only gives the schools seats, but it also provides complimentary transportation and lunches. With five more School Days Series shows left this season, most with seats still available for purchase, we hope you’ll join us at the theater!

Get Social! There is so much going on here at The Music Hall that at times it could be hard to keep up with us. We thought we’d share some ways to stay in the know about upcoming events here at TMH.

Fashionable Merchandise From a Local Artist It’s time to start thinking about your holiday gift lists, and as we all have those people who seem to have everything, this process can get pretty stressful. This year, The Music Hall is here to help. We are excited to announce that we are launching a new line of merchandise, designed and manufactured by New Hampshire native and Button Factory artist, Robin Bettencourt of RobinWoods Designs (who is also opening up an artist pop up shop this winter on Bow Street). Our new collection includes a Writers on a New England Stage logo-ed slouch bag and silk scarf as well as a Music Hall logo-ed tea towel.

Writers on a New England Stage Slouch Bag - $75 This versatile tote bag can either be worn over the shoulder or as a cross-body and features an antique button closure, the Writers on a New England Stage logo on the front, and a historic image of The Music Hall on the back. Lightweight and durable, there is plenty of room to tote around your favorite book, keys, wallet, and phone; it even has a large inside pocket to keep your keys from dropping to the bottom of your bag. It’s the perfect gift for every book and Music Hall lover on your list.

Writers on a New England Stage silk scarf - $48 This 100% silk scarf with historic images of The Music Hall as well as the Writers on a New England Stage logo can be worn with everything from a tuxedo or evening dress to more casual attire such as jeans and a jacket. This long scarf drapes perfectly to add a touch of elegance to every outfit. A great gift for the stylish people on your list.

Designer Tea Towel - $20 It’s the season of holiday parties and what better hostess gift than a Music Hall Tea Towel? This charming towel features historic images of the theater as well as the beloved Music Hall Logo. A neutral colored towel that will complement everyone’s kitchen decor. All of these unique items are on sale now. Make your list, check it twice, and stop into The Music Hall’s B2W Box Office at the Historic Theater or visit our website at TheMusicHall.org to pick up these great gifts. 14
