Culinary Confessions It is a busy month for food lovers on the Seacoast! First, two of our favorite chefs have been nominated for the James Beard Foundation award (the Oscars for chefs), Matt Louis, from Moxy and Franklin Oyster House, and Evan Mallett, from the Black Trumpet, once again marking Portsmouth’s place on the culinary map. Second, we’ve already got our reservations for another outstanding Restaurant Week Portsmouth and the Seacoast (3/30 - 4/8) put on by the Chamber of Commerce. Finally, we’ve got a restaurant-themed cirque show that is going to delight your senses. This world-renowned cirque troupe, Seven Fingers of the Hand, comes to us with Cuisine and Confessions on Wednesday, April 19. Take a trip inside the culinary world with this astonishing performance set in a working kitchen. While backflipping and performing crazy tricks, they’ll also be cooking! Rumor has it they make an amazing banana bread. Check out the video on TheMusicHall.org for a taste of what you’ll see.

Fill The Hall Returns The Music Hall is proud to announce that on Saturday, June 24, we will once again be hosting Fill the Hall, in support the Seacoast Family Food Pantry’s (SFFP) Summer Meals 4 Kids program. The summer months are hard on local families who aren’t able to rely on subsidized school lunches, to help ease this problem, SFFP created a meal program that provides 10 meals a week (five lunches and five breakfasts) to families in need for 11 weeks during the summer. This June, we’re once again asking for your help to fill every seat in our Historic Theater with a bag of nonperishable food. Go online to TheMusicHall.org for details and a list of items that are sorely needed. We hope to see you all on Saturday, June 24.
Access! Members at the Patron level and above are invited to Directors Club events throughout the year. Join us this month for a farm-to-table dinner experience at the Kensington Food Barn at Eastman’s Corner on Thursday, April 6. Space is limited, contact Alexis at 603.766.2176 for details or to upgrade your membership. Photo credit: David J. Murray/Clear Eye Photo

Kathy Griffin Two-time Emmy and Grammy award-winning comedian Kathy Griffin is making her Music Hall debut on Saturday, April 29. Known for her sharp wit and pop-culture obsession, each show features new material and plenty of laughs. This month, Content Marketing Manager Kait Smith, chatted with Kathy about her favorite moment as a stand up comedian, the one thing she never leaves home without, and what to expect from her Music Hall show. Check out this interview and make sure to get your tickets to see her live.
You’ve done more stand-up comedy specials than any other comedian, man or woman, do you have a favorite moment? I do. When I was filming Kathy Griffin Does The Bible Belt in Knoxville, I had a very, very sweet older couple storm out of my show in protest. It's very unusual for that to happen during a television taping, but it makes me feel like I still have my street cred! I hope their old, virgin ears are burning right now.
“
I have been touring for decades, I love nothing more than to constantly change my material
”
You spend a lot of time out on tour, is there one item that you always travel with? My "comedy notebook". Yes, as corny as it sounds, and I am doing more than 50 cities on my current Kathy Griffin Celebrity Run-Ins Tour, I still keep simple bullet points that I change every day in an old timey notebook. I also carry an old timey victrola because technology is my enemy and probably the work of the devil.
What can our Music Hall patrons expect from your show here on April 29?
How the hell do I know? My shows are extremely improvisational. It's important to me that Portsmouth knows I will be giving them all new material April 29! I have been touring for decades, I love nothing more than to constantly change my material. Also, the majority of the show will be about my personal run-ins or encounters with the famous and the infamous. One goal that is important is to make my material different from any other comic you could see on any stage. For example, I don't just do Donald Trump jokes. I have several bizarre encounters with him over the years that I'm able to tell on stage. I try to go with the most unique material, but ultimately it's all about getting the audience to laugh the most and I will do whatever that takes! I have NO SHAME.
A Sneak Peek Into This Year’s Kitchen Tour This year, our annual Kitchen Tour is set in Portsmouth’s Little Harbor neighborhood and takes place on Saturday, May 13 from 10am-4pm. Take a stroll and see breathtaking kitchens of all styles and sizes created by the top kitchen designers and builders of the Seacoast. Start at any house and make a day of it by taking a break for lunch at one of the great restaurants that are just a few blocks away in downtown Portsmouth. Curious about this year's kitchens? This month our blog is featuring sneak peeks of a few of our favorites. Nancy Winkley, Kitchen Tour Committee member and avid cook, is once again showcasing some fun facts, design inspirations, and history of the homes. Each Thursday leading up to the tour we’ll be posting a different kitchen with some tricks and tips for what to look for while you’re touring. Check TheMusicHall.org/Blog to see all of the fun behind the scenes of the Tour, mark your calendar for Saturday, May 13, and make sure to get your tickets to see all of the amazing kitchens up close and personal.
