Portland, Oregon-based singer-songwriter M. Ward grew up listening to gospel and country, two genres that figure prominently in his breezy, West Coast take on Americana. Ward delivers songs deeply rooted in the classic traditions of American country-folk with a penchant for timeless narratives and bluesy, back-porch ballads.
Neville’s incredible career has seen him move seamlessly back and forth between solo work and his role in the first family of New Orleans music, the Neville Brothers. A member of the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, his latest album, My True Story, revisits classic doo-wop numbers including “Tears on My Pillow,” “Under the Boardwalk ” and “This Magic Moment.”

PMAC ‘Rock Camp’ Students Meet Musician Mikaela Davis On July 29, students from Portsmouth Music and Art Center (PMAC) walked to the Loft from their new center (!) at the end of their day of ‘Rock Camp’ to meet with young, emerging artist Mikaela Davis. Mikaela recently graduated college with a classical harp degree, but she has been touring for a few years now with her bandmates, making music with a unique ensemble of harp, keyboards, guitar, sitar, drums, vocals and bells. Mikaela had a lot to share from the perspective of a musician still very new to the life of a professional artist. She spoke of everything from what elements comprise her professional team (“We have everything except a label”) to how to stay healthy when touring. Mikaela even addressed the not so glamorous aspects of touring, like driving a mini van all around the US because it fits all of their instruments and to the hard work of loading and unloading their equipment multiple times each day. When asked about getting discovered, Mikaela suggested YouTube to build a fan base and get attention. — Chris Curtis, Programming Coordinator

What inspired you to become a member of The Music Hall? Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved the theater, so when I moved to the Seacoast 2 years ago, it seemed like a great way to combine something I loved with my desire to contribute to my community.
Photo: David Murray/Clear Eye Photo
What’s your favorite thing about being a member of The Music Hall? The variety of programs that are offered. I can be a part of a book discussion, watch an independent film, enjoy music of almost any genre, see comedy or a play, and do it all while sitting in the amazing historical theater. What is the best show or event that you have attended in the past year? Hmm, that’s like asking who my favorite child is…but Steve Martin and the Steep Creek Canyon Rangers! So much fun. What is your favorite memory of The Music Hall so far? The unveiling of the new chandelier — it was my first event at the Music Hall and what a wonderful tribute to its history. What are you most looking forward to? Christmas shows and the continued draw of great entertainment.

Each year, audiences at Telluride by the Sea look forward not only to the premieres of top notch films, but also to top notch parties and events. We kick off the weekend by opening our doors early to Patron Pass holders prior to Friday night’s film, when they can enjoy a complimentary beverage and place their seat holders in the theater. Following Friday night’s film, Patron Pass holders cruise over to RADICI for a fantastic spread of food, cocktails, and conversation about the first film and the weekend ahead. On Saturday, RADICI offers a special Cinemange menu for all attendees—reservations are recommended! Sunday holds the amazing Patron Pass Holder brunch at The District. Patrons enjoy a delicious, leisurely brunch, and perhaps a bloody mary or mimosa, with the knowledge that they can head straight into the theater for the film that follows. Once again this year, selections from the Portsmouth Brewery’s regionally rich menu await filmgoers at the wrap party which follows the final film on Sunday. What a way to end a weekend-long cinematic adventure!
