MARRIAGE STORY R

• 2h 16m • US 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/7, 1/8 • 7pm Noah Baumbach weaves his dark comedy with tragic romance, following a New York director/playwright (Adam Driver) and actress (Scarlett Johansson) as they dissolve their once happy union with aid from some seen-it-all lawyers (Laura Dern, Ray Liotta, and Alan Alda) and the concerned family (Julie Hagerty, Merritt Wever). Baumbach brings his gift for precise observation of human behavior to this bi-coastal, artistic couple untangling their lives from one another while raising their son.

A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD PG

• 1h 48m • US 1/10 • 3pm; 1/10, 1/11, 1/14 • 7pm Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in this timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After Junod, a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

THE IRISHMAN R

• 3h 29m • US 1/12, 1/26 • 3pm This biographical crime thriller from Martin Scorsese follows Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro) as he recalls his past years working for the Bufalino crime family. PAIN AND GLORY R

• 1h 53m • Spain (subtitles) 1/17 • 3pm; 1/17, 1/21, 1/22 • 7pm This latest film from Pedro Almodóvar tells of a series of re-encounters experienced by Salvador Mallo (Antonio Banderas), a film director in his physical decline. Some of them in the flesh, others remembered: his childhood in the ‘60s when he emigrated with his parents to a village in Valencia in search of prosperity, the first desire, his first adult love in the Madrid of the ‘80s, the pain of the breakup of that love while it was still alive and intense; writing as the only therapy to forget the unforgettable; the early discovery of cinema; and the void, the infinite void that creates the incapacity to keep on making films. Also starring Penelope Cruz.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT Hampton Ford Hyundai: Solid Gold January marks the beginning of the movie awards season, and at The Music Hall that makes us think of our Presenting Cinema Sponsor, Hampton Ford Hyundai, and owner and our good friend, Jay McFarland. Jay has been supporting The Music Hall through Hampton Ford Hyundai since the 2014-15 season. This winter, Jay grew his Corporate Partnership commitment even further, offering to match contributions to our Give the Gift of Magic campaign (up to $5,000). With his support—and yours —this year’s campaign was a huge success and allowed The Music Hall to provide complimentary tickets to Annie to hundreds of people who might not otherwise have been able to attend. As the Historic Theater bustled with folks enjoying the festive decor, we took a moment to ask Jay about the power of the arts and of family. He noted, “My parents and grandparents were always keen to go the theater and adored live music. Those memories carry you forward for years, and I am so happy to be able to support that at The Music Hall. My parents and grandparents would be very pleased.” Jay added, “My son is working on a career in the music industry today in New York and I am super jealous!” When asked about partnering with The Music Hall, Jay described the relationship as a “win-win from start to finish.” He said, “It’s a feel-good with results and friendships. I am inspired to do more for the community and that is a direct result of The Music Hall.” Read more of our interview on our blog, or visit Hampton Ford Hyundai at HamptonFordHyundai.com.
