Film Matters, Global Issues, Local Resources. On May 6, our Film Matters series, in partnership with Exeter Hospital, presented the documentary The Hungry Heart, a film about prescription opiate addiction in Vermont and New England. The filmmaker, the physician featured in the film, and also one of his patients spoke and answered audience questions about the issues. The three have been touring with the film on a campaign of informing the public and working with organizations and legislators in order to encourage meaningful debate and to inspire action around the topics. Series curator, Chris Curtis, who moderated the discussion says, "This was an excellent example of why Film Matters was started. When a film hits one on a gut level, emotions are stirred, thoughts provoked, what does one do when the credits roll? Get in a car, head home, wondering, 'How can I learn more? How might I become more involved?' At Film Matters patrons have the chance to stick around when the credits roll to learn more from local experts, to ask specific questions, and to gather further resources." 13 NOW
