Since 2002, Al-Rahmah School had set its eyes on a prize: receiving

accreditation. May 12th marked an important milestone in the school’s history, as it finally received accreditation from the Middle States Association

Commission on Elementary Schools (CES-MSA) that day. Al-Rahmah now joins Al-Huda School (which received accreditation in 2006) as another accredited

Al-Rahmah School received Maryland state approval in 2002. This approval means that the school’s curriculum, its standards of teaching and policies are up to the state standards, and that a student can transfer to any other school in the state. When a student is ready to go to college, he/she will not be required to take the GED, but can apply to colleges following normal procedures of standardized tests and college applications. “Accreditation is a step above and beyond the standard state of approval,” >> SCHOOL Pg 13

Organizers Expecting 8,000 at Muslim Funfest Carnival By Muslim Link Staff Zafer Eroglu sits at his desk and clicks refresh. He is checking weather.com again, as he’s been doing since he came into the office. Eroglu, the head of the Muslim Link’s annual family carnival “Muslim Funfest”, is expecting several thousand guests

at High Point Farm in Clarksburg, Maryland on Saturday, May 29, and the last thing he wants to see is rain. “I know [the carnival] is still ten days away, but I can’t help it. We put so much planning into this event and we get anxious. We want [Muslim Funfest] to be a great experience for everyone. So, we’re making

dua’ for good weather, and Allah is the Best of Planners” he said. An early drizzle put a slight damper on the first Muslim Funfest carnival in the summer of 2008. Despite the damp ground and early gray skies, over 2,000 people showed up for the inaugural carnival which features rides, games, animals, vendors, and food. Last

year about 5,000 attended the carnival, and this year organizers are expecting around 8,000 people. All proceeds from the carnival – ticket sales and vendor fees – benefit the Muslim Link, the non-profit newspaper which serves the greater Washington DC and >> CARNIVAL Pg 9
