Va. Youth: Jihad is not Terrorism By Muslim Link Staff Five D.C.-area youth who allegedly traveled to Sargodha, Pakistan to join a terrorist organization returned to prison in that country after a preliminary hearing in a Sargodha court. No charges were filed against the youth at this meeting, according to The Washington Post. Another hearing was set for Jan. 18, 2010 and prosecutors in Pakistan intend to pursue lifetime jail sentences for the five youth, complicating efforts to secure their release to the U.S. The youth said they did not contact terrorist groups and traveled to Pakistan

to connect with “helpless Muslims.” According to the Washington Post, one of the youth, Ramy Zamzam, said to reporters, “We are not terrorists. We are jihadists, and jihad is not terrorism.” The five men – Zamzam, Umar Farooq, Ahmed Minni, Waqar Hussain Khan and Aman Yemer – were arrested Dec. 8, according to multiple news reports, at a Sargodha residence belonging to Khalid Farooq, Umar Farooq’s father, who was also arrested.
