Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting 2014

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT October 28, 2014 Dear Members, It has truly been another great year here in the Mt. Washington Valley! It has been reported to the Chamber by many members to have been a very productive year. Your Board of Directors has been hard at work executing our 5 year Strategic Plan and ensuring that we are using our membership monies and resources as productively as possible. The Chamber staff has also been hard at work implementing programs, overseeing events, and working with our members to help them achieve their business goals.

In the upcoming year the Chamber will embark on a very aggressive marketing plan that includes the following and more:

• Trade show presence marketing our valley in Montreal, Boston, Toronto, and Portland, Maine • Targeting weekend and midweek stays for winter sports enthusiasts in Ski NH Magazine and on Boston Television stations WCVB Channel 5 and WHDH Channel 7 throughout the winter • A campaign in the Boston Globe and Boston.com targeting June 1st to July 4th overnight visits • Distributing thousands of map and directories throughout New England • Targeting wedding business and foodies to increase room nights and meals in The Knot and Northeast Flavor • Providing French and Japanese translated pieces for our Gourp Sales professionals • An extensive and targeted ongoing e-mail effort to our ever growing niche e-mail list (golfers, skiers, shoppers, etc.) • Continued Search Engine Optimization efforts and Web Development

I want to personally thank everyone here tonight, our members, many great volunteers, supporters and partners, for your ongoing membership, sponsorships, and overall support of the Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce. If we all pull the rope together I know that the Mt. Washington Valley is on target to become the number one choice for visitors looking for a New England destination; and for our Chamber to be the first choice for the business community seeking innovative marketing solutions and leadership. As always, please remember that the Chamber’s doors are open and we welcome member input. Sincerely,

Greg Frizzell, President

ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES October 30, 2013 at North Conway Grand MWVCC President Greg Frizzell called the meeting to order at 4:35 p.m. APPROVAL OF ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES FROM 10/30/12 – Jackie Goodhart moved to approve the minutes; Doug Holmes seconded. The minutes were approved. APPROVAL OF 2012-2013 FINANCIAL REPORT – This report was presented by Kim Tibbetts, Treasurer. The good news is our revenues were up by $22,000 over the previous year and expenses were up by $7,000. The bottom line is that Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce remains in the black. We also continue to rebuild our reserves and are closer to our goal of having our reserves at $200,000. Jac Cuddy moved to accept the financial report. Randy Perkins seconded. The motion carried and the financial report was approved. STRATEGIC PLAN COMMITTEE REPORT – MWVCC Board Member Jeff Smith presented an update on the process undertaken to get to an approved strategic plan. Jeff also presented the Chamber’s revised vision and mission statements and outlined the Plan’s five strategic initiatives (Research and Measures, Resources, Marketing, Collaboration and Leveraging and Maintaining Organizational Effectiveness). Reporting on progress made to date on these initiatives, MWVCC Vice President Michelle Capozzoli spoke to the new research and measures initiative. A committee reviewed the research needs of the State in reporting back on Joint Promotional Program funds received along with Destination Marketing Association International’s national performance standards established specifically for Destination Marketing Organizations. The Board hired consultant Kerry MacDougall to help systematize the collection and analysis of data for new performance measures based on State and national standards. We will begin employing these new measures in November and revisit in the Spring. Executive Director Janice Crawford reported on the Chamber’s efforts this year to increase its resources. The biggest dollars came from JPP. Last year’s State budget was increased to allow Chambers and others to seek additional dollars. $187,000 was our goal. The State ran out of money before we were able to get 187, but we did get to $110,000 which was more that we had to match. Some of the match comes from dues, but also from member industry partners (such as ski areas) that provide funds to help us promote a product. A special thank you goes out to ski areas who stepped up to match funds for a special Boston TV campaign that we’re doing this year with additional funds we received. Other additional resources came from a few other areas: The Membership Committee did a review of dues this year to make sure that everyone was paying their fair share. Some dues were adjusted. Additionally, there was a $25 increase made to the small nonprofit and umbrella dues categories (The minimum dues for non-profits are now $125 and $200 for umbrella dues-paying members.) Dues collection is going well. We have collected $282,000 of $315,000 goal so far this year. This year, MWVCC also implemented a new Tourism Fund and is seeking donations to fund programs that promote tourism to the Valley. Members may contribute to this fund, but we are also specifically seeking to encourage non-members to contribute because they also benefit from such promotion. Addressing collaboration, Theresa Kennett provided a report on the efforts of the MWV Collaborative, a program supported by the MWV Housing Coalition, MWV Economic Council and the MWV Chamber of Commerce, which hopefully, will be expanded to include other partners. The goal is to improve the regional economy and the way we develop the land so that we will all enjoy a better quality of life. Work dons so far includes business and elected official surveys; the tallying of results and reporting back to the community and the convening of groups to encourage further collaboration and information sharing. Tomorrow, there will be a breakfast meeting to enlarge the circle of people working on this, discuss priority issues and determine some action issues. In January-June 2014, we will be striving for regional aptitude, cooperation and collaboration. From July-Dec. 2014, we will use influence to garner support and hope by Jan.-April 2015 we will have a collective will at work toward a regional vision that attains our goal. Additional information on work done to date can be found at mwvcc.org. Greg Frizzell presented the new mission statement that was approved by the MWVCC Board of Directors with the adoption of the Strategic Plan: “The MWVCC strategically markets the Mt. Washington Valley as the premier New England vacation destination by enticing tourists with our year round attractions and natural resources. This fosters a business climate that promotes growth and collaboration in member communities, while protecting the area’s natural beauty.” Tad Furtado moved that the membership adopt the new mission statement. Jac Cuddy seconded the motion, and the motion carried and the mission statement was adopted. Randy Perkins moved to adjourn the meeting. Jeff Smith seconded. The meeting was adjourned.

Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting 2014

2014 MARKETING CAMPAIGNS MWVCC Year-Round Public Relations Program - Marti Mayne of Maynely Marketing The Chamber’s PR program celebrated another successful year with coast-to-coast coverage of consumer tourism stories. How do we measure success for PR? • After creating a new system for measuring impressions and value of our PR placements, we’re happy to announce that the Mt Washington Valley had more than 1 billion impressions (1,055,731,537) created via newspaper, TV, magazine, and online stories. With online placements, the number of eyes that can read our stories multiplied significantly this year. • The value? Close to $300,000 dollars would have had to have been spent in advertising dollars to generate this kind of coverage. Stories ranged from national publications like National Geographic, USA Today, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Union Leader, Yankee Magazine, NH Magazine, Outside Magazine, Travel & Leisure, Yahoo.com, Examiner.com, Virtually every TV station in New England, and AP stories syndicated to more than 10,000 news sources nationwide. Additionally, throughout our Canadian outreach, we enjoyed stories in Journal de Montreal, Journal de Quebec, the Globe and Mail, plus a number of Canadian travel websites. • As the majority of our visitors come from within a 3.5 hour radius, we focused on regional coverage throughout New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts to capture the interest of the majority of our travelers. What subjects were covered in these stories? You name it from scenic charm, outdoor adventure, waterfalls, mountain facts and weather to shopping, dining, lodging, attractions, ski resorts and XC Centers, regions and areas, sports feats, family fun, extreme sports, foodie stories, Best of ’s, Top Ten lists and personalities - appeared before many millions of readers and viewers. None of this coverage could be achieved without active media outreach through the Chamber’s PR Program. Highlights of the PR Program include: • Top ten places for a kid/family New Year’s Eve designation by MiniTime.com • North Conway named among the best 25 ski towns – first mentioned in 2011 then featured again on NationalGeographic.com. • North Conway named among the 3 most livable ski towns in the Northeast by Liftopia • Mt Washington Valley competed for Native Eyewear’s designation as the best outdoor town from among 5 destinations. • Two of the 5 best ski trails in New England are in Mt Washington Valley, according to Yankee Magazine. • Yankee Magazine also named both Jackson and North Conway among the top 25 fall foliage destinations. • Both Jackson and Bretton Woods were named among the top most romantic ski resort towns in the East by LuxurySkiTrips.com after trips there were arranged by MWVCC. • Story Land’s Roar-O-Saurus included in a story about 10 most anticipated theme park rides in USA Today. • Huntington Ravine Trail was named among the world’s most thrilling hikes by National Geographic Adventure. We monitor online requests from journalists through a number of subscription sources. Not a week goes by where we don’t respond to at least three and sometimes ten different requests for information from media contacting MWVCC directly or via a subscription service. MWVCC maintains an online press kit on the Mt Washington Valley Chamber’s website. Simply go to www.mtwashingtonvalley. org and click on the Media link at the bottom of the page to see hundreds of press releases covering every season and general topics too, plus an archive of older releases. Additionally, we send the monthly E-Traveler newsletter to people who’ve indicated an interest in visiting Mt Washington Valley. Our list of potential visitors has grown this year to more than 41,000 contacts interested in visiting Mt Washington Valley. We know that E-Traveler readers are loyal readers and respond to stories we send. None of MWVCC’s active PR program would be possible without the help of very generous Mt Washington Valley businesses. Thank you to all the lodging, dining, attractions, retail and service members in hosting media who in turn provide stories to increase awareness about the hosting business and the Mt Washington Valley destination. ABOUT THE SNOW- Winter Marketing Six years ago, the Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce launched a concerted campaign to address meteorologists in New England with branding designed exclusively to provide information about winter ski and travel conditions in the Valley via meteorologists. As we all know, the weather forecasts dictate travel decision making, and this winter marketing program is designed to actively reach the meteorologists in New England. For the past six years the enthusiastic feedback from weather men

2014 MARKETING CAMPAIGNS and women was exceeded only by the great coverage for skiing and winter adventure in Mt Washington Valley. Today, not only meteorologists but local and regional ski writers have come to rely on the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce for up-todate information about skiing and outdoor weather and conditions in the Valley. Meteorologists tell us that the MWVCC program has served as a regional and national example at meteorology conferences. Once again this winter, with the help of a JPP grant matched with funds from the ski resorts, the Chamber and ski resorts will work with meteorologists and ski journalists to provide up-to-date information, forecasts, photos and video footage and ongoing communication offering an upbeat and accurate view of the weather in Mt. Washington Valley on a consistent basis for the 2014-15 ski season. What was formerly dubbed “the meteorologists project” has been renamed to “ABOUT THE SNOW”, and for the third year in a row will expand to include a skier outreach, an expanded social media component and invitations for meteorologists to visit. In fact, Mt Washington Valley hosted a record number of meteorologists last year, and we hope to host a New England meteorologists race this winter, which is in the planning phase. From the time the snow falls in early November to mid-April, we’ll send the ABOUT THE SNOW newsletter to those who’ve signed up to receive information about skiing, winter events and snowmobiling in Mt Washington Valley. This newsletter will offer insight into snow conditions and forecasts, ski reports, include offers from ski resorts and winter-related business, and highlight one lodging package and a “tip of the week” each week. In addition, each newsletter profiles the opportunities for off-the-slopes fun offering information about snowmobiling, sleigh rides, skating, winter horseback riding, ice climbing, winter hiking and more. We’ll also include contests to drive respondents to the Facebook page to post answers. This newsletter will be loaded with recent photos of ski conditions; the same photos that were mailed to meteorologists for mentions on-air. This year, we’re also adding news about good après ski offers and entertainment too. There are more than 4000 names of people who’ve indicated an interest in receiving ski and winter information. At the end of last ski season we surveyed ABOUT THE SNOW readers, and more than 94% of those readers reported the newsletter was helpful, and better yet, more than 60% of readers reported it prompted them to visit Mt Washington Valley after reading one or more issues. The About the Snow Campaign will once again be accompanied by a focused Facebook and Twitter program this year, offering up-to-date information and photos about the snow to skiers and winter visitors throughout the country. Between twice daily (and sometimes more) provocative postings and an aggressive advertising campaign on Facebook to help build the Chamber’s fan base and drive traffic to the Chamber’s website and the AboutTheSnow.com webpage the Chamber’s fan base grew last year by 68%, exceeding the growth from the year before. When we started the About the Snow Campaign on November 1, 2013 the MWVCC fanbase included 11,907 fans. When we completed the campaign, the Fanbase was at 7,640 on April 1, 2014. Most significantly, the virality and reach of the Chamber’s social media reach expanded as the number of fans increased, giving the whole region a nice boost in branding. As weather and conditions changed, we featured new ads and promoted posts throughout the campaign. Throughout the campaign we posted daily messages and photos (most days two, three or four times) which featured news and photos from all of the ski resorts and XC Centers in the region. We plan to maintain the same social media campaign throughout the 2014-15 season. Additionally, this year an expanded television advertising campaign featuring skiing in Mt Washington Valley will occur throughout the ski season in the Boston market, organized by MWVCC and a committee of ski resort representatives. ABOUT THE SUN Campaign New this year, the newsletters will continue after the About the Snow campaign ends. In an effort to promote June as a perfect time to visit Mt Washington Valley and to drive summer vacation planning, MWVCC will launch a new Spring Marketing Campaign dedicated to promotion of outdoor recreation and attractions in Mt Washington Valley from Memorial Day through July 4th. A bi-weekly ABOUT THE SUN newsletter will focus on family travel ideas, what’s new at attractions, golf, outdoor recreation, nature’s beauty, vacation specials (lodging packages) and special offers or deals for the summer. We’ll highlight a different itinerary in each newsletter too. The newsletter will also contain links to events during the two-week period it’s focused on. Additionally, all of the itineraries featured in the newsletter along with any other appropriate articles will be featured in the Chamber’s blog. MWVCC has contracted to work with Wiseguy Creative to gather photos for bi-weekly newsletters and social media campaigns which will accompany the ABOUT THE SUN program. All photos will be added to the Chamber’s Flickr sets and Pinterest Boards. Additionally, from Memorial Day to July 4th, we will create a Facebook and Twitter campaign around attractions, golf and outdoor recreation ideas. Ads will be dedicated to building the fanbase and to promoting posts.

2014 MARKETING CAMPAIGNS Photography The Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce has worked closely with Dan Houde of Wiseguy Creative to capture the action and beauty of Mt Washington Valley in photos used by our social media campaigns, newsletters and videos. Throughout the ABOUT THE SNOW campaign of 2014 and again in this coming year, Dan will be our roving photographer, capturing the events, adventure and fun in Mt Washington Valley. We’ve seen over and over again that Dan’s photos are the most heavily shared and most well-liked photos on our social media campaigns and provide valuable content for the website, newsletters and social sharing. All photos taken by Wiseguy Creative are uploaded to the Chamber’s Flickr account for usage by members too and are also posted to the Chamber’s Pinterest Boards where appropriate. Once again in the Chamber’s 2014-15 fiscal year, Dan has been retained to take photos of not only winter but spring, summer and fall attractions, scenics, shopping and more. Many of you have been kind enough to host Dan and his models. We ask that all businesses honor Dan’s request to take photos which will then become part of Mt Washington Valley’s photo library. We appreciate your offers for Dan’s complimentary admission and access to your business for photo taking. Please send your photos and news to PR@mtwashingtonvalley.org which reaches both Marti Mayne, Jaimie Crawford (responsible for blog content) and Melody Nester. All three of us are always on the lookout for material for social media campaigns, media outreach and newsletters. Our needs for photos are greater than ever, so please send photos – especially those that are about the sun and snow – throughout the year. It can be a photo of the snow in your backyard or fun in the snow at your business. We will credit the photographer and/or the business too. Shopping Campaign For many years Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce has obtained a JPP grant, matched by funds from Settlers’ Green Outlet Village and North Conway Village Association to promote holiday shopping in North Conway. Thus from October 1 - December 14, 2014, the shopping campaign will include: • Bi-weekly SHOP TALK newsletters covering all aspects of shopping in North Conway. • A dedicated shopping Facebook advertising and posting campaign • New Pinterest boards dedicated to providing holiday shopping lists • Shopping contests encouraging interaction • A series of four videos produced by Amy Mahoney and Chris Proulx, designed to be shared by lodging, attractions, restaurants and more promoting North Conway as an ideal shop-stay-and-dine location. • A shopping blog dedicated to expanded shopping stories • Locals only shopping events to make shopping locally especially worthwhile! Last year, MWVCC’s Facebook page had a 39-percent increase in its fanbase during the Shopping Campaign, fueled in part by ads, promoted posts and contests. This year, with a longer campaign we expect that growth to be even larger. Additionally, we expect that the new shopping videos will create excitement and provide content for MWVCC members to also share. SOCIAL MEDIA Facebook: MWVCC has created and scheduled Facebook campaigns throughout the year. While posting takes place four times per day on the Chamber’s Facebook page, we accompany those photos with advertising and promotion seen both as right-side and Timeline ads. Facebook campaigns are supported with JPP grants and support of Chamber membership sectors. The following campaigns are scheduled: Shopping Campaign: October 1 - December 15, 2014 About the Snow Campaign: November 15, 2014 - April 15, 2015 General Advertising/Spring and Summer fun: May 1, 2014 - May 25 & July 4 - September, 2015 About the Sun: May 25 - July 4, 2015

2014 MARKETING CAMPAIGNS Here’s an example of what happens when the Chamber advertises on Facebook:

Although “likes” or fans are important, the engagement of our fans is equally important. We reached a record with 7828 impressions from shared interaction with our fans recently. Photos and humor are our tools for creating good interaction with fans. Due to the Facebook algorithm, it takes a paid advertising campaign to really grow the fan base and reach. The MWVCC advertising campaign combines promoted posts with both “timeline” and “right side” advertising. We employ a strategy that combines targeted ads with wider reach image ads to build the fan base, which in turn builds the reach for our message and branding for Mt Washington Valley. OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA: Pinterest A Pinterest Campaign was launched in 2012. Today, the Chamber supports 11 boards with 342 pins. We’re seeing sharing of our pins increasing during fall foliage period. Pinterest boards include: Skiing and Spring Skiing boards, Attractions, Outdoor recreation, Autumn Around Mt Washington Valley, Maple Sugaring, Romance, Events, Scenic Drives, Summer Recreation Tax-Free Shopping, Vacation in Mt Washington Valley With this year’s shopping campaign, we plan to add “shopping list” Pinterest boards with What’s Hot for everyone from grandparents to teens, kids, women, men, the boss and more. Stay tuned and get some ideas for your holiday shopping from these boards! Flickr Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce has compiled photos in their Flickr account for a number of years. There are thousands of photos available to media and MWVCC members for use to promote Mt Washington Valley. We simply ask that when photos are used, credit is given to the photographer. Instagram The Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce launched an Instagram account in July, 2013 and has added to it throughout the year. We plan to use Instagram for Shopping and ABOUT THE SNOW Photo contests too. Twitter The Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce auto-feeds all Facebook comments to Twitter and additionally creates dedicated tweets for important announcements. Starting with the Shopping and Winter campaigns, we’ll add more dedicated tweets for our most compelling announcements and photos.

Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting 2014

5 YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN Chamber Members, The Board of the Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau presented and adopted a 5-year Strategic Plan in March of 2013. The plan includes a solid mission, compelling vision and aggressive, yet achievable and focused, objectives: Mission: Strategically market the Mt. Washington Valley as the premier New England vacation destination by enticing tourists with our year round attractions and natural resources. This fosters a business climate that promotes growth and collaboration in member communities, while protecting the area’s natural beauty. Vision: The Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau will be the innovative leader in the New England tourism industry thus being the: • FIRST CHOICE for the business community seeking innovative marketing and leadership in the promotion of the Mt. Washington Valley as a premier vacation destination. • FIRST CHOICE for visitors looking for a destination for a vacation tradition. Key Objectives: 1. Research and Measures – We need to develop meaningful data to measure our success, tell our story to maintain and attract new funding. 2. Resources – Obtain additional funding required to achieve our mission and vision. 3. Marketing – We are a destination marketing organization and a key to our success is to continue and expand marketing to attract visitors to the Valley. 4. Collaboration and Leveraging – We have many partners and need to continue to collaborate with them and together better leverage resources. 5. Maintain Organizational Effectiveness – We need to ensure that our organization is engaged and sustainable. The Executive Board of Directors has assumed the role of providing the oversight and implementation of the PLAN. Through the work of the Chamber staff, Board Members and several committees we have been diligently working toward achieving these objectives and continue to do so. Below are listed just some of the achievements accomplished so far towards the plan’s goals: • Developed a new data gathering system along with protocol for implementation to more efficiently measure, compare and report on the effectiveness of different Chamber marketing programs. • Conducted a membership audit and developed strategies to increase revenues from membership; applied for and received an increase in NH State Joint Promotional Program grant dollars (a total of $106,293 was received last year); and sought and received additional grant support to Mt. Washington Valley Preservation Association projects. • Focus groups were held with different segments of our membership to help identify marketing needs and trends; new niche markets were identified and are being incorporated into this year’s marketing plans as a result. • A representative from White Mountains Attraction joined our Advisory Board; 3 Board members now represent the Chamber on the Mt. Washington Valley Regional Collaborative committee; new collaborations with NH Travel Council and Northern Chambers of Commerce are being developed and collaboration with Mt. Washington Valley Economic Council continues. • A new Nomination Committee (to become the Governance Committee) was formed and charged with ensuring best practices for governance and succession planning; a Board Self-Assessment was conducted; and policy and orientation manuals are being developed. Additional strategies are being employed this year to continue progress toward plan goals. Look for additional updates throughout the year. Our members’ input and ideas are also always welcomed as we strive to ensure continued growth and success for our Chamber. Respectfully, The Executive Board of Directors Greg Frizzell, President Michelle Capozzoli, Vice President Kim Tibbetts, Treasurer Dick Schwalbenberg, Director Chris McKay, Director Janice Crawford, Executive Director Melody Nester, Assistant Director

2014 INTERNET MARKETING Jason Robie of Ridgeview Technology and Jaimie Crawford of MWVCC The 2013/14 fiscal year was filled with numerous highlights on the Internet marketing front. The site performed extremely well and our social media campaigns also greatly contributed to the overall success. On the social media side of things, Facebook alone gathered an additional 12,583 fans in just 12 months!! This is in large part to the efforts of Marti Mayne of Maynely Marketing. The Facebook ads campaigns gather huge numbers of fans directly related to our focus market (skiing, shopping, golf, etc.). The Chamber’s blog continues to perform well with over 4,000 more visitors than last year (year to date) totaling 10,600 since January. Pinterest continues to be a good platform for the Chamber with an average of 2,282 viewers every month and our tweets reach over 4,500 followers every month. Needless to say, the members’ press releases, store openings and other general information are getting incredible exposure. As far as Search Engine Optimization is concerned, we are happy with the results from our ongoing efforts. Google continues to dominate the search world and the Chamber’s site is no different. The biggest referral sites are Google, Bing, Yahoo, AOL (yes, really!) and then the Chamber’s blog and Facebook pages respectively. The most searched for phrases that found the Chamber’s site were “North Conway NH”, “Mount Washington Valley” and “North Conway Events”. Overall, we have an average of 3,050 visitors to the site every month and those folks view an average of 160,000 pages (and 201,833 pages in July, 2014!). If you are not sending us events, specials, updates, etc. about your business, you are missing out on a TON of eyeballs and visitors! Take advantage of our marketing efforts by including your business! We are here to promote YOU!

THANK YOU to our Conway and North Conway information booth volunteers and our office and event volunteers!

Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting 2014 “To fully deliver on the dream, charter schools must do more to take innovation to scale and continue to tackle the very toughest educational challenges.” ~ Education Secretary Arne Duncan

The Robert Frost Charter School opened in the fall of 2012 as the first public charter school north of Concord, NH serving grades K-8. We are tuition free to every student that is a resident of the great state of NH and have a diverse student body from a variety of towns within and beyond the Mount Washington Valley. • The curriculum at the Robert Frost Public Charter School offers an approach to instruction that places each child at the center of the educational experience, where caring educators meet each child where they are academically, emotionally and socially, supporting them in moving forward at their own unique pace. • The Robert Frost Public Charter School understands that success in today’s global environment requires more than skill mastery. Students need to develop the ability to integrate those skills and apply them to real world situations. Students also need to be able to think creatively, communicate their ideas, work collaboratively and take responsibility and ownership of themselves and their work. These 21st Century Skills will be fostered through project experiences. • The instructional strategy of the Robert Frost Public Charter School blends Project-Based Learning with the Montessori educational philosophy and curriculum to create a unique educational model that creates a 21st century classroom. In our mixed-age classrooms teachers act as learning guides that motivate students to actively engage in their own learning as they master new skills through individualized, hands-on activities and large-group collaborative experiences based on real projects.

2014 White Mountains Treasure Award The Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce is very pleased to honor these individuals for the tremendous contributions they have made to the Mt. Washington Valley. These individuals have demonstrated outstanding and consistent caring for the improvement of the Valley and the quality of life for the residents of our many communities without the expectation of reward or commendation. Without them we would not have the very important social services, business support, and entrepreneurism that have gone into making our valley a quality place to live, raise a family and work. We appreciate Memorial Hospital’s enthusiastic sponsorship of this award. It is with great pleasure that I offer a hearty congratulations from the Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, staff and volunteers to Emily Smith-Mossman and John Colbath, this year’s recipients of the White Mountains Treasure Award. With great respect, Greg Frizzell, President, MWVCC The White Mountains Treasure Award program was established as a way to thank and honor individuals and organizations who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, exemplify that success is not measured by what they accomplish in life for themselves but by what they do for others.

Congratulations to past recipients of this award.

2014 White Mountains Treasure Award Emily Smith-Mossman Congratulations to Emily Smith-Mossman of North Country Fair Jewelers and North Country Cares and The Revolving Closet. Emily’s innovation and vision created the ‘Back to School Giveaway,’ which also inspired her to create the TheRevolvingCloset, a thrift store focused on free clothing for teenagers. She feels the need that touches families in the MWV and works tirelessly to provide clothing and supplies that many families cannot afford. She is helping to instill confidence in children, giving them the tools to be able to create a better life for themselves and their families. Emily posseses the innovation the Valley needs to have a stronger future and we are lucky to have her working for us all.

Can your washcloth do this?

Ours can. The Skinny WashclothŽ makes washing your back a breeze because it’s shaped like a rectangle instead of the traditional square washcloth. Remember rectangles from geometry class? Long on two sides, short on two sides. These are friendly rectangles. We promise.

Available at The HandCrafters Barn in North Conway, N.H. Visit our eStore a www.theskinnytowel.com
