CDR YAMAHA MOSIG AND REARDON SHINE FOR CDR YAMAHA

CDR Yamaha’s Kade Mosig raced to only his second MX1 round win of his career after taking victory at round two of the MX Nationals, held at Appin Raceway, over the weekend. Mosig has been a revelation this far in season 2015, taking second place at the opening round and now making the next step claiming a popular round victory at Appin on his CDR Yamaha YZ450F. Mosig finished the day 1-4 results to win the round by a point by over his nearest rival. Moto one saw Mosig just outside the top five but as the race moved towards the half way stage, Mosig made his move and began heading towards the front. He stalked the leader for a couple of laps before making the pass stick and went on for an impressive race win. Moto two saw the Victorian again stuck in traffic in the early stages but he was able to break clear and pass his way into fourth place and enough to secure the round win. “I’m stoked,” Mosig said moments after the race. “I didn’t ride great in that last one but Mike kept me informed on the pit board as to what was going on and what I needed to do and we made it happen. “I rode pretty tight there at the finish but I wasn’t going to let this slide and I wanted this round win pretty bad. “It’s nice to see the results starting to roll in for both myself, Daniel and the whole team as everyone has worked so hard to make this happen. I’m really enjoying my time with this team and the CDR Yamaha YZ450F is an amazing bike. Thank you to everyone on the team, I won’t forget this day for a long time,” Mosig ends. Well, it took just two rounds in Daniel Reardon’s comeback to show what he has got as he raced his way to a moto win at Appin. Reardon claimed 6-1 results for the day with both performances as impressive as the other.

the first turn traffic jam and he motored his way to the lead and set off for the finish line. Reardon gapped the field in the early laps, stretching his lead out to eight seconds at one point before backing it down in the final stages to cruise to a comfortable race win. His 6-1 results left him just off the podium in fourth place for the round. “I tell you, it feels nice to get a good start and be able to ride my own race,” Reardon explained. “Every race so far I seem to be working my way through the back after an early incident but to get out front in moto two and just put my head down and go for it was just what I needed. “The bike was again working well on the weekend and as a team, it was a great result for CDR. Congratulations to Kade on a great day and hopefully both of us can keep this momentum going from here on,” Reardon said. “It was a good, morale boosting day for the team,” states team owner, Craig Dack. “It’s nice to say we have good bikes and the right riders to win but to actually get out there and do it on a tough track like Appin gives the entire team the confidence and belief that we are on the right path. “Both riders did a great job and are really motivated. Both are extremely fit which I think was a big factor in their results today as well as the bikes looked awesome out on the track so Gary, Brad and the mechanics are also doing an amazing job. Congratulations to Mike Landman on getting his first round win as a mechanic also. “I think we still need to improve at Superpole as that could be what shapes this championship so we will have a focus on that in the coming rounds.

Reardon charged to sixth in moto one after a fall in the opening lap that saw him way down the field but in moto two he decided that he wasn’t going to get involved in

SERCO YAMAHA CLOUT RECLAIMS LEADERS RED PLATE AT MX NATIONALS

Serco Yamaha’s Luke Clout took out round two of the MX Nationals on his YZ250F and in the process reclaimed the MX2 points’ leaders red plate as the championship moves towards round three. Sydney based Clout entered the round looking for another strong performance to back up his opening round second place at Horsham just two weeks ago. He comfortably took P1 in qualifying and was confident of a good showing in the two moto format. Moto one saw a bar banging duel develop between Clout and Yamaha supported rider, Jay Wilson. The pair went backwards and forwards for nearly 30 minutes as the rode well clear of the chasing pack. In the end, Wilson got the better of Clout in moto one but Clout was determined to turn the tables on his good friend in race two.

place passing far most established names and in moto two, the shorter 20 minute race, he raced his way back to sixth. His 4-6 results gave him fourth for the round and he now sits in third place in the championship chase. “It was a tough weekend for me as I wasn’t getting great starts and you really need them at a track like this. When you are back in the pack you are always at the mercy of what happens around you and both times I got caught in other riders’ problems. “Still, I was able to salvage some reasonable results and keep myself close in the championship but between now and the next round I plan on practicing starts to ensure I can ride my own race,” Beaton ends.

Again the same pair were out front, this time Clout stalked and passed Wilson to take the race win and with it the overall for the round. His 2-1 results now see him to the top of the leader board in the MX2 points chase. “I was pretty determined to win this round and get that red plate back,” Clout said. “It’s my home track so I needed to get it done and get back up front. “Jay rode really well today and I had a great time racing him. We were really close in speed so it was always tight but it was fair and it was a good battle. “Next round is at Broadford in two weeks so there is no time to rest. We still have eight rounds to go and leading the championship only means something if you win it at the end.” Jed Beaton showed his is not just a front runner and he mounted two monumental comeback rides through the MX2 field. In both races he was involved in early race crashes or incidents that saw him well down the field as they completed the opening lap. In moto one, Beaton charged all the way back to fourth

GYTR YAMAHA WILSON TODD RACES TO VICTORY

GYTR Yamaha’s Wilson Todd has battled through an eventful off season to win round two of the MX Nationals, in the MXD division, after racing was completed over the weekend. On a tough, rutted and challenging track, the 17 year old Yamaha racer finished the day with 3-1 results to claim the round win, his first of the season, and move into the championship lead after two rounds. Todd secured fourth at the opening round in a gritty performance has he recovered from injuries and with the two week break between the rounds he was able to regain some fitness and health and entered the Appin event and much better physical state. It wasn’t all rosy for the Yamaha charger has he found himself laying in the dirt in the second corner of moto one and sitting in 39th place when he collected himself. He got the bike fired up and began to get to work as he picked off riders as quickly as he could. 20 minutes later, Todd crossed the finish line in third place passing a staggering 36 riders on his charge forward. Moto two was a little less eventful as he got to the front early and battled with Wayde Carter before breaking clear at the midway point and setting off for a comfortable race win. The round win combined with his fourth at Horsham now gives Todd an 11 point lead in the MXD championship. “It has been a hectic couple of months so it was good to just be able to get a race win and take the round victory,” Todd said. “I still haven’t been able to do a lot of riding but at least now I’m in a position to be able to ride and train again so I hope to continue to improve from here.

mechanic Cory and the Appin club for doing such a great job on the weekend,” Todd ends. Team mate Mitch Evans was at the venue on the weekend but unable to race due to a wrist injury sustained at the first round two weeks ago. Evans is hopeful of a return to racing at round three in Broadford. Yamaha Junior Racing’s Hunter Lawrence showed a clean pair of heels as he won both of the Rookies Cup races contested on the weekend. The Rookies Cup is a support event at the MX Nationals to be ran at rounds 1, 2 and 10. Lawrence has won the opening two rounds and was particularly impressed on the tricky Appin track. “I love racing at the MX Nationals and getting a chance to watch a lot of the pro’s race,” Lawrence said. “The track ends up a lot different to what we would get in a junior race so it’s a great experience to be riding on something as technical as the track was today at Appin. “I have been working with the GYTR Yamaha Team for these two rounds and it’s been great hanging out with the team. I can’t thank them enough for the support, as well as my family who always look after me.” Yamaha Junior Racing also had Cody Dyce and Brendon Walther in action with Dyce locking don third spot for the round with 3-3 results while Brendon Walther overcame some small falls to finish seventh.

“The track was tough today as the ruts were long and deep. I tried to not over ride them and just be as safe and consistent as I could and that was enough to get the job done. “A big thank you to the GYTR Yamaha team, my

M0TUL SUZUKI TESTING DAY FOR TEAM MOTUL SUZUKI AT MX NATIONALS OPENER

Team Motul Suzuki’s Kale Makeham broke through for his maiden Superpole appearance at the second round of the 2015 MX Nationals held at Appin, NSW on Sunday April the 12th.

at.” Makeham added.

In just his second MX1 event, Makeham posted the fourth fastest qualifying time in regular qualifying, before backing up his performance in the one lap Superpole dash, giving the young Victorian the fourth pick of the gate when racing commenced.

The reigning two time MX1 champion was caught up in a first turn crash in the opening moto that left the number one plated Suzuki pilot in the hands of Race safe.

A fast start aboard his Suzuki RM-Z450 in the opening moto had Makeham running at the pointy end of the field in 3rd position before a small mistake on the technical circuit left him to record a 10th place finish. It was a reversal of form in moto two for the 21 year old as he worked his way back from a mid pack start to finish 7th, resulting in his first Top Ten overall round result in the MX1 class. “It was a good day at Appin and there are plenty of positives to take away. Makeham commented. “I still had a silly little crash that cost me a top overall result, but it was a big step forward from Horsham for sure. “I qualified for Superpole which was a little unexpected this early in the season. I have watched it from the sidelines the last couple of years while racing MX2 and always thought it was a cool concept. It was one of my goals to make Superpole this year and it to get the first one under the belt early was a great feeling. “I got off to a good start in the opening moto and was sitting in third until about half way before I made a silly little mistake and tucked the front end. I finished the race in tenth and was a little frustrated after having a big gap over the riders behind me before the tip over.

For Makeham’s Motul Suzuki team-mate Matt Moss, the day did not go the way he was hoping for.

Moss was taken to hospital for further observations and later released. “Moss was caught up in a first corner incident which really knocked him around,” team manager Jay Foreman explained. “He has some swelling still, but has been released and cleared of any serious injury, though he will have to see a couple of specialist later this week to asses the extent of any injuries that he may have sustained.” “As for Makeham it was a improved ride from round one. He made Superpole and was in a good position in the opening moto before he fell over. “The second moto he passed a lot of riders and at the end of the race was in a freight train of riders from fourth down and picked up a seventh place finish. “He has the speed and is getting better and better every race and is continuing in the right direction.”

“We made some changes to the bike between the two races and we went in the right direction for sure and the bike was unreal. I managed to work my way through the field after a bad start to finish 7th. “It was a good solid 30 minute moto with no mistakes or crashes and gave me a good gauge of where I am

RACELINE SUZUKI RACELINE PIRELLI SUZUKI MAKE STEADY PROGRESS AT APPIN

Raceline Pirelli Suzuki wrapped up another successful weekend of racing, making further progress and collecting valuable championship points at round two of the MX Nationals in Appin. After a successful first hit out at Horsham, MX2 pilot Rhys Carter arrived at round two with top five results set firmly in his sights. In the Motul MX2 qualifying session, Carter proved that round two meant business, posting the second fastest lap time (1:56.146) and taking third pick of the grid. In moto one, Carter kept up the race pace for the complete 30 minutes despite making a couple of minor mistakes, eventually crossing the line in an impressive fifth position.

“Rhys rode very well – he had a fews crashes which put him back but all in all he rode well. “The bike is definitely where we want it to be now, which is really good and meant that we could make further progress on the weekend. “Rhys is not typically known for his sprint speed so we were really impressed in that final moto where he could keep up with those top guys and push the whole way until the end. It was just bad luck the he crashed. “I think the track at Broadford will suit him well, it’s similar to what he rides at home with the elevation so it should be good to see how he goes at round three.”

It was the second race of the day however, where Carter’s speed and talent was made evident. Sitting in third position for close to 18 minutes, Carter battled for second before making a crash late in the moto forced him to drop back to seventh. Rhys Carter MX2 – 6th Overall – (5th, 7th) “It was a much better weekend than the first round, but still not great,” he said. ‘My bike was awesome and handled great which was a massive positive to take out of round two. “I had the speed all day but made too many little mistakes which kept me off the podium which I was really gutted about. “The team has put together a good package for me though and we are all having fun, which is making racing fun. I know I can be up the front so I”m looking forward to the next round.” Jesse Wallace – Raceline Pirelli Suzuki Team Manager “The weekend went quite well for us and we ticked all of the boxes,” he said.

PENRITE HONDA AN EVENT THEY WOULD RATHER FORGET FOR THE PENRITE HONDA RACING.

It was an event they would rather forget for the Penrite Honda Racing Team at Round 2 of the MX Nationals at Appin yesterday. Cody Cooper and Ford Dale endured a hard fought weekend, finishing outside their expectations. Cooper, claimed tenth overall for the weekend and maintains sixth in the championship standings. “I rode terrible and tight, the team deserves better and I am disappointed to say the least,” Cooper admitted. “I am flying home today and will change up my routine in an effort to shake of the gremlins” Ford, who fell victim to a first turn pile up in both motos ended the weekend with a trip to the hospital and with no points to add to his tally. “I felt great going into the weekend, testing has gone well and I we did some great riding,” Dale explained. “In the first moto I fell with Mossy and Gibbs. After I got up I started pushing and was riding hard and came down again. The second moto was worse as I didn’t get up from another first turn crash.” Team Principal Yarrive Konsky said the team sat down following the day to review their position in the championship and work on a positive plan moving forward “Cody’s preparation up until recently has been for the 20minute motos in New Zealand so we have found he is tiring midrace,” Konsky said “Thankfully Ford has been cleared following an MRI so he can continue to work on his comeback. “We are not happy with our finishes and we lost valuable points in two of the twenty races. We know what we need to work on and we have a plan to address these key areas,” Konsky continued.

WILSONS HONDA WILSON MX STILL SMILING AFTER APPIN

Honda Privateer effort Wilson MX have delivered a mixed bag of results at round two of the MX Nationals at Appin over the weekend.

had a little crash and dropped back. I was able to make a bunch of passes and get back to 14th which I was happy with.

Still finding their feet in the 2015 season, MX2 pilots Geran Stapleton and Luke Wilson both toughed it out over two motos, and made further progress towards top ten results.

“I’m still not exactly where I want to be, but each weekend I’m edging closer to that top ten. In the next few weeks we should be there I think.”

The Appin circuit proved to be a challenge for all riders – Stapleton and Wilson however managing to complete two motos each, with some thrills and spills in the process. At the conclusion of the round, both Honda mounted riders departed the track healthy, smiling and with their sights firmly set on round three in two weeks time.

Neale Wilson – Wilson MX Team Manager “All in all it was a really good weekend for us and we made some positive steps forward,” he said. “With Luke it was just great to see him walk away with a smile on his face. He put in two really good races and he’s looking a lot more comfortable on the bike.

Geran Stapleton MX2 – 21st Overall – (16th, 25th)

“Geran needs to spend less time laying down on the track taking Tinder photos and more time on two wheels (laughs).

“The weekend was pretty tough to be honest,” he said. “Every time I seemed to get into a rhythm, I would cartwheel and I was back to square one.

“I have no doubt after looking at Geran’s lap times that he is a top five guy, so he just needs to have a bit less time on the ground during races.

“In moto one I actually crashed three times which put me way back, so it was hard to come back from that.

“The team made a lot of progress this weekend and although the results didn’t completely show it, we are really looking forward to stepping things up at Broadford.”

“In moto two, I got a good start but crashed again. The track was really technical and hard to pass on, so that crash hurt me a bit. “The team and bikes are both at 100 per cent, so it’s just a matter of me putting all of the pieces together and getting some good results on the board.” Luke Wilson MX2 – 15th Overall – (20th, 14th) “The weekend worked out to be not too bad for and we made some awesome progress,” he said. “In moto one I felt pretty good and then made a few mistakes and dropped back which was disappointing. “In moto two, I was sitting in about top ten and then

KTM RACING KTM’S GIBBS SHOWS HIS METTLE TO EXTEND NATIONALS LEAD

The KTM Motocross Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs has extended his lead in the 2015 MX Nationals, with two masterful rides in the series second round at Appin, near Sydney. The 2014 Vice Champion finished with 3-2 moto results to end the day second behind Kade Mosig, but extended his championship lead over Mosig by virtue of the five points he accumulated by qualifying for, and winning, Super Pole. Gibbs’ ride in the opening moto was one of the talking points of the day, as he recovered from a first turn crash by turning on one of the incessant, terminatorlike charges he became famous for last year, and elevated himself from last to third. In the second moto, a possible residual effect of his earlier crash saw him lose his rear brake in the first ten minutes of the 30-minute moto, but his courageous second place finish enabled him to leave with a 14-point lead in the championship. Gibbs’ KTM team mate Luke Styke’s Appin ride was equally impressive, the MX1 rookie taking 2-3 results on the day, to forge the enviable statistic of three podium finishes from his first four races in the premier class. Styke’s outstanding speed and consistency now sees him clearly third after two rounds of his very first MX1 championship. Rob Twyerould, KTM Motocross Racing Team Manager – “For Gibbsy, this was a championship ride. From going down in the first turn to third is pretty amazing. So to go away from here still making points after a fall in the first turn of the first moto, I’d call that an absolute win. And Stykesy, I’m incredibly happy. To be on the podium two rounds in a row in his first year in MX1, he is just going from strength to strength. He rode really solid today, very smart, and very consistent, and that’s given him a solid third in the championship. I’d also like to acknowledge the effort from the team. Everyone really put in.”

Kirk Gibbs – “Qualifying went good; I qualified fastest and felt really well. I got the holeshot in the first moto, but then just pushed a little too hard around the second turn and lost the front. After that, it was pick it up and into damage control – just go as hard as I could right to the end. Although it was really disappointing to go down in the first turn it still wasn’t too bad. Let’s hope this is one of my bad days, I had my back brake fade away about 10 min into the second moto, so, trying to ride this track with just a front brake was pretty tricky, but I was still good enough to even close the gap there on Dan. I just had to ride the best I could with what I had. But hats off to the team, the boys had to work very hard between motos because I bent the bike up a little bit.” Luke Styke – “I feel like it wasn’t my track this weekend. With my lines I felt like I couldn’t ride the bike as fast as I wanted to ride, so I guess it was a good weekend. I’m looking forward to some sand tracks coming up in the next couple of rounds. Things are going well, but it’s a long championship, and we’ve just got to keep building.” In MX2 Racing: Factory Support rider Caleb Ward withdrew from a moto one battle for the lead after sustaining a tweaked knee that ruled out for the rest of the day and will require specialist examination. Dylan Wills (7-8) was again the highest placed KTM finisher in eighth, with Factory support rider Hamish Harwood (6-10) ninth after a best result of sixth. Caleb Ward – “It’s pretty devastating but there’s not really much I can do about it. I was in a battle for the lead with Clout and Jay Wilson and I just passed back into second, and in the corner my leg clipped a deep rut and pushed my knee up into the handlebar and sent it on a weird angle. I’ve done a knee before and I know the feeling. I knew I’d done something straight away. The Race Safe guys said my MCL could possibly be torn, so we’ve got to go get it checked out this week. From what I’ve heard an MCL isn’t as bad as an ACL, so hopefully I don’t need surgery and can get back out in a couple of weeks.”

HUSQVARNA HUSQVARNA MEN START MX NATIONALS WITH PROMISE

Appin was a happy hunting ground for Husqvarna Australia’s youthful factory-backed squad as this year’s Australian MX Nationals championship continued in New South Wales, with podiums in both MX2 and MXD, and a spectacular ride from 18-year-old Jesse Dobson in the premier class. In just his second year in the big leagues and in only his second national championship round aboard the Husqvarna FC 450, Dobson (4-5) became the first Husqvarna pilot in the history of the MX Nationals to qualify for Super Pole, and achieved his goal of a top five overall finish. The result has elevated him to seventh place in the MX1 championship, while fellow FC 450 rider, Craig Anderson Racing’s Aaron Tanti (13-11) moved a step closer to his early-season goal of a top 10 finish with 12th on the day. In the hotly contested MX2 category, Nathan Crawford (3-4) provided Husqvarna’s first MX2 podium of the new season, powering his FC 250 to third behind Luke Clout and Jay Wilson. National number three Luke Arbon somehow achieved 11th overall despite charging from last place in not one, but both motos, in a round which held almost no luck at all for him. In the MXD category, Husqvarna-mounted rookie Connor Tierney (6-3) proved his recovery from a earlyseason wrist injury is almost complete, powering his Craig Anderson Racing TC 250 onto the podium, behind Wilson and Toby Stevens. Jesse Dobson – MX1: “We stayed off the ground and got our ship together – it was good. We went to Super Pole, but I made a few mistakes and ended up coming out with fifth, but I was happy with that, just to get a good gate choice. The first moto we had a little crash battling with Kale Makeham for fifth about half way, but rebounded and finished behind Gibbsy. In the second one we had an okay start and got caught up behind Boppo for a few laps and just ran out of time to

get Mosig by the end of the moto. But overall it’s good, I’m quite happy, everything is working and we’ve kind of ironed out those little mistakes from round one and the result was there.” Aaron Tanti – “I got 13th and 11th for the day. I was running top five for a little while in the first moto, but I must have been holding on too tight and I really hit a wall with my arms and faded back. In the second I ran around eighth off the start, but I made a few mistakes and dropped back to 13th. And the second half of the moto I really put my head down and made a charge, and ended up finishing one place behind Cody Cooper so, my top-10 goal will have to wait another round.” Nathan Crawford – “I’m pretty pumped with a podium today. I’ve just been working on having fun really. I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself, so I’m just generally concentrating on having fun and letting it come to me. In practice it was super wet and muddy, but I knew the mulch was going to soak up the water and the track turned out real rutty and rough and had multiple lines – it was prepared really well. Top five in the championship is not too bad, but I need to get up there and start battling with the leaders, Clouty and Jay were on it today.” Luke Arbon – MX2 “In the first moto I came into the turn a little bit hot and clipped someone’s wheel when I was second or third and went down. I had mud all over my grips so it took a while to get that off and be able to ride properly. I had a lot of work to do, but I got back to maybe 11th in the first one from dead last. In the second I was running fifth, then made a mistake coming up the hill and got passed by a couple of guys. They went to the inside next turn so I went outside, but the lines intersected and another dude cleaned us both out. I got up last again, and got back to 13th or 14th. We made some improvements with the bike and I felt better than at the first round, but obviously the results aren’t where we want them to be yet.”

P R O FOR M A N CE K AWA SA K I LEARLY CLAIMS FIRST TOP TEN OF THE SEASON.

The team enjoyed solid improvements from round 1 in Horsham 2 weeks ago. Moto 1 – Things started well with both bikes coming around turn one in the top 7. Unfortunately Dylan had a big crash right at the end of lap one, His neck brace come off and bike was bent so he pulled into the pits to fix those issues then re entered the race, Dylan charged hard through the field to make it back to the top 10 which was an awesome result, then on the second last lap. Dylan suffered a flat front tyre, Dylan completed the race 13th. Alex enjoyed running up front as high as 5th Alex lost a few positions but maintained 7th for majority of the race, Unfortunately after the 20min mark the wheels feel off a little with Alex fading to finish the moto 14th. Moto 2 – Dylan again grabbed a good start roughly 7th, by the end of lap 1 Dylan was fifth making an unbelievable pass on Taka #888 around the outside of a corner, This was short lived with a crash towards the end of lap two, Dylan finished the moto 9th. Alex this time had the first lap crash Alex rode well with a bent up bike and a very low clutch lever to finish the moto 23rd. Overall it was a step in the right direction with better starts, we just need to minimise the mistakes and early moto crashes and the results will become much better. The team is now looking forward to round 3 Broadford. For the Round overall Dylan took 10th and Alex 18th still not what we want but we showed a lot of improvement from round 1. Hugh Mckay again joined the team in the juniors, Hugh rode great with third fastest in qualifying and by the end of moto one was in a position to take third unfortunately a lap rider crashed in front of Hugh and took him down. Hugh ended the day in 5th overall. He is on track to be a future star of MX Nationals.
