in a souvenir company in the Caribbean for four years. Terry was involved with a sports company for nine years as a National Sales Manager handling pro and collegiate

with Island living since he landed. Terry is a Graduate of Indiana University, and he spent most of his career—23 years!—with Levi Strauss and Company in Sales and Marketing. Terry was also a principal owner

accounts. He likes to play golf, travel and spend time on the beach. And, like the rest of the Little Guide Team, Terry has a passion for the locally owned and small businesses that make this Island such a wonderful home.

jacquelyn MARKET DIRECTOR

Jacquelyn Johnson, Market Director for Little Guide Amelia Island, is a Florida Native. Born and raised in Hilliard, Jacquelyn has enjoyed life up and down the entire length of Florida—from the Keys all the way back to Amelia Island.

photography, and Rocking this Life, a business designed to aid other entrepreneurs in personal and professional development. Through the lens, you can expect Kellie’s

career, Kellie chose to switch gears and become an entrepreneur 17 years ago and has never looked back. She currently owns two businesses on Amelia Island: Boston Photography LLC, a full-time, full-service photography studio offering portraits in many arenas such as newborn, family, commercial and even underwater

infectious, high-vibing energy to truly make every session an incredible experience from the consultation to the art on your walls. Kellie is a mother to two fabulous teenagers, three great danes and has also been married to the love of her life for over 22 years.

Back in 2012, TJ Pelletier and his chum Al Waldis were talking. They recognized an opportunity in the Island restaurant market, sensing it could use a family-friendly, quality, seafood place. They thought it should be done simply, well and consistently. They wanted to create a place where patrons would always know the food would be good. Well, dear reader, TJ and Al succeeded. They found an ideal location—right across from the river—in historic Downtown that had been neglected for many years, and the rest, as they say, is history. For years, people have raved over the Tuna Nachos—their signature dish. Diners also savor local shrimp and oysters—cooked any way you want. For landlubbers, they even have crispy chicken and fried pickles too! You can take in the game or watch the sun set while you’re waiting for your food. Something new on offer is the “Charter Boat Special”—bring them your fresh catch, cleaned and sliced, and they’ll cook it up for you. With live music on the weekends and brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, there’s really something for everyone. When you stop by, make sure to tell them your friends at Little Guide sent you!

Max Gonzalez, founder and owner of Garden Street Bistro, has been working in the food industry since he was 15 years old. He started the same way many of the greats do… bussing tables, washing dishes and doing prep work for the kitchen. From the first restaurant where he worked—an Italian one— he went on to become a pizza chef. As he followed his dreams of opening his own pizza place, he was led to the Island. He found a great location and started planning the buildout needed to serve pizza. As the plan developed, the timeframe for completing construction kept getting longer and longer. While he was gutting the kitchen and revamping the courtyard, customers kept piling in asking for pancakes, and he soon realized he had a real opportunity on hand… so he quickly built a breakfast kitchen. Within a month he was open for business at what we now know as Garden Street Bistro! Starting with pancakes and eggs in January of 2020, patrons now enjoy all sorts of delicious breakfast, lunch and brunch foods at Garden Street Bistro. The kitchen is famous for their french toast (crafted from brioche made by Max himself), Southern inspired biscuits and gravy, and fresh takes on omelettes, like ones with Hawaiian and Caprese flair. When you go, you’ll enjoy the beachy, relaxed atmosphere, located in Historic Fernandina with charm galore and flowers everywhere. Max and his team look forward to having you there!

Mocama Beer Company was born out of a desire to brew distinctive beers in a unique space on Amelia Island. Mocama creates exceptional beer by integrating traditional brewing discipline with a fascination for new and experimental ingredients. Their quality and consistency are driven by a mindset that everything matters and a philosophy that places beer at the heart of all decisions. They always have between eight and twelve beers available in the taproom, with Cosmico IPA and Prosim Pilsner ranked as the general favorites by locals. Mocama began distributing beer locally in mid-2020, and is now available throughout Jacksonville and St. Augustine. In November of 2020, they opened their elegant, midcentury taproom and biergarten a few blocks from historic downtown Fernandina Beach. The taproom doubles as Mocama Coffee from 8am-2pm, offering espresso and batch coffee in partnership with Panther Coffee out of Miami. What does “Mocama” mean? It’s the name that identifies the unique dialect spoken in a narrow band of coastal territory that stretches from St. Simons Island, Georgia, to St. Augustine, Florida. The historical translation of the word “Mocama” is the ocean… or more poetically stated, big water where the sun is born. Stop by and see what’s on tap!

Beer and pizza. Pizza and beer. Has there ever been a better matched duo? Well, perhaps… Kevin and Jessie O’Brien, who have come together to create First Love Brewing, might just win that prize. These middle school sweethearts left their Maryland homes at 18 to go to college together at the University of Maine. On a boring weekend home from school, they tried out a home brewing kit Jessie found. Fast forward a few years, and you’ll learn that these two, now adults, have married and made their way to the Island to pursue their passion of sharing craft beer with the people in the community where they live. Jessie, with a Masters in Brewing Science, makes the beer, and Kevin, with the Marketing degree, makes the business. They have five core beers that are always on tap, and 10-12 others continually rotating. Even though First Love is a brewery, their dining menu is nothing to sneeze at either. Specializing in NY style pizza made to order and traditional pub fair, there’s definitely something for everyone. Many people tell them that First Love feels like their very own “Cheers,” where everybody knows your name. Stop in and soak up the love at First Love Brewing Co.

If you are looking for a warm welcome and a down-home experience with fresh, hot meals, Big Al’s Chicken Shack is the place to go. Darren Allen—a.k.a. Big Al—is a classically trained pastry chef who had lived and worked on the Island in the 90s. He moved away, and when he eventually moved back, he wanted to create a fun, family-friendly, quick-serve restaurant with a comfortable, warm and relaxed ambiance… a place that instills wellbeing and enlivens the senses. And now, we’ve got Big Al’s. When you’re there, you’ll catch the aromas of smoking chicken, fresh biscuits, fried chicken, and pecan pie. Their menu includes crispy fried chicken and biscuits (Al’s favorite!), fried chicken tenders and wings and even smoked chicken wings with lots of sauces to choose from. They prepare delicious side dishes like coleslaw, french fries, mac ‘n cheese, and fluffy buttermilk biscuits… all made fresh in their kitchen. Dessert options include a variety of pies, chocolate chip cookies and soft-serve, frozen custard—all made in house. There are eight big-screen TVs to watch your favorite sports and music videos. We think you’ll also enjoy their collection of vintage photos of historic Fernandina Beach. So come on down to Big Al’s Chicken Shack!

In 2016, Darren Allen came to the Island for a vacation… and he left with an ice cream shop! When he paid a visit to a friend and visited Island Time, he simply fell in love with the place. He loved its location in a beautiful old building in the downtown historic district, and he saw visitors constantly flowing in. He felt he could really make it a special place… and he did. Within the 24 flavors of Hershey’s Premium ice cream served at Island Time, you can find all of your favorite standards. But you’ll also enjoy some modern flavor profiles, like brown butter bourbon truffle and salted caramel brownie. There are 12 flavors of soft serve frozen yogurts and sorbets, including pineapple Dole Whip with 15 toppings to consider for your cold, creamy creation. You’ll also find espresso drinks, smoothies, beer and wine, and there’s lots of space—both indoor and out— to enjoy it. The decor in the shop and in the courtyard, along with the TVs tuned in to Florida sports, provide a refined atmosphere that will make it easy for you to relax and enjoy yourself. When you’ve got the time, stop by Island Time for a sweet treat… you’ll be glad you did!

Amber Marvin, owner of Island Flower & Garden, has beauty flowing in her veins. As a third generation floral designer who despised college, Amber decided to go into the family business. Starting in her home state of Tennessee, she made it to the Island based on a recommendation from a friend, and she hasn’t looked back. Now that she’s settled here on the Island, her mother and sister have joined her again, and it’s much like old times. Island Flower & Garden is a European-style florist providing floral services for many occasions… interior and exterior weddings, receptions and rehearsal dinners at private homes and resort facilities. They specialize in modern designs that you won’t see at your traditional florist, and they use only super-fresh, farm-direct blossoms that are brought in from all over the world. In their garden department, all of the plants come from Florida farms. When asked how Amber differentiates her business from others, she said, “We provide the highest quality we can offer, along with excellent customer service.” What more could you want? Stop by Island Flower & Garden to see what’s blooming!

Start a Little Guide® in your city!

We are seeking a Market Director to launch a Little Guide in your city! The Market Director is an independent contractor— this allows you to work for yourself (but not by yourself), create your own schedule and build a solid income. ABOUT LITTLE GUIDE Little Guide introduces readers to local influencers and innovators who consistently craft the best in food, shopping, services and more. It’s our mission to tell the story of local business heroes and create a “buy local” culture. Our curated stories offer a visually stunning, informative and unique snapshot of your city.

WHY START A LITTLE GUIDE? • • • • •

Flexible hours Work from home Little to no overhead Competitive commission Incredible networking opportunities

WHAT DOES A MARKET DIRECTOR DO? The Market Director is our main representative in the city and is responsible for our growth and client happiness. Specifically they engage local business owners, support them through our print production, oversee the market’s social media channels and deliver Little Guides throughout the city after they are printed. WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR IN A MARKET DIRECTOR? Someone who is… • A big fan of their community • A passionate supporter of local business • A customer-focused problem solver • An enthusiastic student of their position who strives to excel in their role • A sales-driven professional who is positive and fun under pressure • Someone willing to guide our partners towards a great return on their investment

WORK FOR YOURSELF, BUT NOT BY YOURSELF While the Market Director is an independent contractor, we provide you with guidance and support to help you succeed. You make the sale, promote our partners on social media and distribute the Little Guides. We’ll produce the books and deliver them to you. YOU’LL RECEIVE • A rate card for your market • Regular check-ins with an experienced sales coach • Full graphic design, copywriting, and photography assistance

Apply today to become your city’s biggest champion. Go to MyLittleGuide.com and click on Start a Little Guide. Qualified candidates will complete online contractor testing and receive an in-person interview.
