Restoring Hope in the God of Second Chances!
Surprised by God Since arriving at Mt. Pleasant almost a year ago, I’ve been on steep learning curve. I’m still learning names, family connections, directions, histories as well as who does what and when. Through it all, I’ve never stopped praying for this church, our spirit of gratitude and grace and of course for growth and influence. I’ve really enjoyed the joyful, almost playful attitude that permeates our gatherings and radiates from your homes and hearts. There’s a real warmth here that make Mt. Pleasant unlike any other church! I stand by that statement and I tell everyone I can to check it out for themselves! In my prayers, however, I never asked for, expected or even considered what is about to unfold. Let me explain. Several months ago I had a chance meeting with our DS, Rev. Ken Krimmel. He always asks about Mt. Pleasant and of course I couldn’t help but gush with pride for this church, its witness and it is playful fellowship. Maybe I over did it! Two weeks later, Dr. Krimmel called to tell me about an amazing young man on fire for God currently leading a youth group of about 40 students in Ritchie County. He was ready for the next step but needed a healthy place to explore and grow in pastoral ministry. Mt. Pleasant immediately came to mind. But were WE ready? No! Was God ready? You Bet! “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19 (NIV) This month we will welcome Anthony Farr, his wife Cori and children, Peyton, Elias and Honor to Mt. Pleasant to begin his ministry journey among us and to help us achieve our goals and plant new ministries. Anthony has an energetic and engaging style, a real heart for God’s people and a desire to reach out to them. I’m excited to have this family come to know what Linette and I know about Mt. Pleasant. It’s a church that knows how to be the Church! I don’t know what else to say other than hang on! If you’ve never been surprised when God shows up in your life, get ready, you’re about to. Blessings, Steve

We are women with a Purpose! "United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. In May, The United Methodist Women sponsored a Benefit Dinner for Dana and Janet Whited to help support them while in Morgantown. Pastor Steve also presented stories and pictures from his mission trip to Haiti. Thank you to all that donated items for the dinner and helped with preparation and clean-up. The next meeting of the United Methodist Women will be on Tuesday, June 14. There will be no meetings in July and August. Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! Psalm 119:1-3
It’s June. School is Out. What are your summer plans. Vacation, Home or Away? Well, the Trustees are taking a vacation. Not really, just not meeting in June. Does the Church take a vacation? What if the Church did take a vacation? What would it be like if the entire church went on a vacation, TOGETHER? Landscaping around the Church has been completed. Thanks to Lisa Smith at Bosley and Jimmy Dickson at Greenscape. GREAT JOB!!! Thank you. Now that the rain has stopped (maybe) and the summer rain schedule has started, who wants to help maintain the watering schedule for the new trees, shrubs and plants? For the near future, watering will be needed every day. It may take a village to raise a child, but it takes a congregation to maintain a church. In last month’s Spire, it was mentioned of having a fundraiser for the new projector. WHAT A GIVING CHURCH!!! Last Sunday enough money was received to pay for the projector. Thanks to Donna Keller and Betty Ball for your generous donations. Thanks for your support of THE CHURCH, ITS MESSAGE AND ITS MISSION. Still sorting through all the stuff that was moved out of the offices. Still moving things around. Check out Elaine’s new desk. We will be welcoming our new Associate Pastor Antony Farr. We are working on his work space. WELCOME ANTHONY. Please contact one of the trustees with any concerns, problems or issues. And you are always welcome to any of the trustee’s meetings. We usually meet @ 7pm the on the first Monday of the Month. The Trustees

May 21, 2016 Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church: Psalm 139: 14 says “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” What an amazing realization that David had. After a life of ups and downs, moments of great faith and great doubt, he knew the real story. In every chapter of our life we are meant to live intentionally. We are called into a great responsibility; to share the good news of Jesus Christ. While we are not perfect, and make more than our fair-share of mistakes, we are to remember how our creator designed us. “Fearfully and Wonderfully” are pretty lofty descriptions of a design. We are meant to do AMAZING things. We are called to be world changers! What a privilege and gift it is to serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords! My calling to God came with I was sixteen years old. Before then, I had not been raised in a church setting, though I had no doubt that God loved me and was working in my life. I attended a youth revival in August of 2002 and my life changed forever. I finally found a peace and purpose that I had never known before, I was in love with God. Although my relationship with Christ took on different faces at times since then, His love and grace led me back to the church after having tarried in the distant country for a while. I was asked to serve as youth minister at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and there I found more inspiration and purpose than I had ever before. I then entered candidacy last year which led our family to you! Cori and I are humbled by the opportunity to allow God to use us as He changes the world around us! We are excited to be part of a thriving church and a loving congregation. We are eager to learn from Pastor Steve, church leadership and all of you as we work together to reach our community. We want to be intentional in our calling and I am certain each of you share that desire. We want to get to know you and we encourage you to reach out to us via text, phone, email, or social media. Thank you for opening up your church, your hearts, and your ministries to our family. We are blessed to be part of this journey with you! Yours in Christ, Anthony Farr
