About Myrte I am MYRTE and not very surprisingly my name is Myrte. When I drew a little kingfisher in 2008 I couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t stop drawing birds. From when I was a child I have had a deep love for animals and after travelling to other countries - looking for bears, squirrels and hamsters in the wild- I realised that wildlife in The Netherlands is right in our own backyard. And the wildlife we have here is beautiful too. I had been a fashion designer for 10 years and always looking for ways to design more than just a garment from the limited collection of fabrics I could find. I had my own ideas. For MYRTE I can design just exactly what I want with the fabrics I design myself.

Nature certainly opened up for me. Where ever I am I look for nature. I have lunch with the blackbird and I hear the jackdaws discuss heavy topics on my roof. I draw them like any other illustrator, but pencil and paper are replaced by a digital tablet and stylus. On my screen I colour the bird feather by feather. I use many colours and one bird consists of thousands of strokes. It can take up to two weeks to finish a drawing. I am grateful that I can share my love for nature with others that are touched by it. It is my ode to nature. I only draw the subjects I meet. I dive into their world and write a little story about them, whether itÂ´s a bird or a flower. I do my best to design products that donÂ´t harm the environment. When I developed the kimonos this was important. I decided to have them printed and sewn locally. This catalogue is dedicated to apparel and my printed fabrics. The kimonos are part of the most luxurious collection yet. The use of silk for the kimonos makes for perfect and bright colours. It is a joy to develop the garments. Designing a pattern from an original kimono was a labour of love. Using Habutai silk, which used to be the only fabric used when making the traditional kimonos, the crowning glory.

Hand drawn All illustrations are hand drawn. The drawing of the Dunnocks below is the result of more than 18.000 penstrokes. A glimpse of the drawing process can be seen on the right. MYRTEâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s collection consist of pillows, wallpaper, kitchen textiles, gift items and more! Alle illustraties zijn met de hand getekend. De tekening van de Heggemusjes hieronder is het resultaat van meer dan 18.000 penseelstreken. Rechts zie je hoe deze tot stand is gekomen. Ixora When walking through parks and jungles in South East Asia, you will come across the gorgeous jungle flame. There are two certified organic cotton qualities; 300grams and 135grams, a lightweight cotton voile, and two silks; a heavy weight shiny silk and the beautiful traditional habutai silk.
