Gov. Holcomb, FSSA announce an additional $6.9 million in grants to support child care Governor Eric J. Holcomb announced today the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning is awarding another $6.9 million in employer-sponsored child care grants to an additional 22 businesses, community groups and school corporations, bringing the total invested to $25 million. The initiative, part of Gov. Holcomb’s 2024 Next Level Agenda, is mobilizing employers and communities to create or expand child care offerings that address the needs of working Hoosiers. “By having more child care options, Hoosiers are provided the flexibility to enter and stay in the workforce and attain a better quality of life for their families,” Gov. Holcomb said. “The State is pleased to partner with businesses to provide more opportunities for their workforce, leading to a sustainable future for Indiana families.” Forty employers plan to provide on-site child care to their employees, and 15 will offer child care tuition benefits to their workers. The remaining awardees plan to support child care for their employees in a variety of other ways, such as reserving seats at partner child care centers. The full list of allowable uses and

details can be found here. Overall, more than 40 large employers with 1,000 or more employees will receive up to $750,000 each. More than 30 midsized employers with between 100 and 999 employees will receive up to $350,000. And 12 small employers with between 20 and 99 employees will receive up to $50,000. “Thousands of families will benefit from affordable, convenient access to child care, and nearly 100 businesses, community groups and schools will benefit from a workforce that doesn’t have to worry about where they’re going to find it,” said Courtney Penn, OECOSL director. “But most importantly, children will benefit from quality early education that will set them up for success in K-12 and beyond.” The program, a partnership with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, uses a portion of the state’s remaining federal relief funds from the COVID-19 pandemic and is part of the state’s broader efforts to strengthen the early child care and education sector, providing support for today’s workforce and investing in tomorrow’s. The program is also supported by the Indiana Manufacturers Association.

Benefits of fixedincome investments SUBMITTED BY PATRICK ZAMKIN When many people think about investing, the first thing that comes to mind is the stock market. And that’s not surprising, as the rise and fall of stock prices is constantly in the news. But if you’re going to achieve your financial goals, you may well need to look beyond stocks and include fixed-income investments in your portfolio. Fixed-income investments offer three important benefits: • Income – When you invest in fixedincome vehicles, such as bonds, Treasury securities and certificates of deposit (CDs), you receive regular income in the form of interest payments. And you continue to receive this income until your investment matures or you sell it, no matter what’s happening in the financial markets. Of course, the income you can receive from fixed-income investments will always depend on the interest rates at which these investments were issued. But if you own a mix of long-term and short-term fixedincome investments, you can gain some protection against fluctuating rates. When market rates are low, you can get greater income from your longer-term bonds, which typically — although not always — pay higher rates. And when market rates rise, you can benefit by reinvesting the proceeds from your shorter-term bonds. • Diversification – If you were only to own stocks, or stock-based mutual funds, your portfolio would be susceptible to higher risks, especially with market downturns. But you may be able to reduce the impact of market volatility by adding fixed-income investments to your holdings. Bond prices often move in a different direction from stocks, so if stock prices are falling, you might find that the value of your bonds is rising. You can also diversify within the fixed-income portion of your portfolio by owning a mix of corporate

and Treasury bonds, as well as CDs, just to name a few. • Stability – As mentioned, you will always receive interest payments from your bonds if you hold them until maturity. But if you wanted to sell your bonds before they mature, you could get more, or less, than what you originally paid for them. When market interest rates rise, the price of your current bonds will likely fall, as no one will pay you the full price for them when they get newer ones that pay more — this is what’s known as interestrate risk. Conversely, when market rates fall, the prices of your current bonds will probably rise. But here’s the key point to remember: Bond prices generally don’t fluctuate as much as stock prices. In other words, bonds are typically less volatile than stocks. Consequently, owning bonds can add diversification to your portfolio. And to maximize the stabilizing effects of bonds, you may want to stick with highquality bonds rated as “investment grade” by independent bond-rating agencies. How much of your portfolio should consist of fixed-income investments? There’s no one right answer for everyone. And over time, your interest in these types of investments may well change — for example, as you near retirement, you may want to consider shifting some of your growth-oriented investments into incomeproducing ones, though you’ll still need some growth potential to keep up with inflation. In any case, the combination of income, diversification and stability provided by bonds and similar securities should be compelling enough for you to find a place for them in your investment mix. Although the “money mule” is a victim, they may also face prosecution. Protect yourself from this scam: • Do your research. Many scammers steal photos from the internet to use in their dating profiles. You can do a reverse image lookup using a website like Google Images to see if the photos on a profile have been stolen from somewhere else. You can also search online for a profile name, email, or phone number to see what adds up and what doesn’t. Scammers most often pose as men and target women in their 50s and 60s. • Ask specific questions about details given in a profile. A scammer may stumble over remembering details or making a story fit. Never send money or sensitive personal information to someone you’ve never met in person. Cut off contact if someone starts asking you for financial or personally identifiable information (PII), like your credit card number or government ID number. • Be very suspicious of requests to wire money or use a pre-paid debit card. These are scammers’ favorite ways to send payments because, like cash, it can’t be recovered once the money is gone. For more information and to learn how to protect yourself, Google “BBB 10 Steps to Avoid Scams”. If you spot a scam, whether you have lost money or not, report it to BBB’s Scam Tracker at BBB.org/ScamTracker and the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Your story can help protect consumers from similar scams.

European Vacation Veers Off Course in Action-Packed Mystery, BBB Scam Alert: This Romance Scam Tricks Victims Murder Across the Ocean Into Laundering Money CHICAGO — Not all vacations go exactly as planned, but finding a bloody corpse in a hotel room certainly wasn’t on the itinerary for Lori Brill, the savvy, sexy septuagenarian at the center of the award-winning mystery from Charlene Wexler, Murder Across the Ocean. “Mature female readers, who have not yet found a hero who is like them, will at last have one in Lori Brill,” Wexler said. As the story begins, Lori is embarking on what should be an enjoyable vacation in London to visit her granddaughter. But Lori, a silver-haired spitfire long divorced from her alcoholic husband, can’t resist indulging in an unexpected night of passion in a London hotel with old flame Josh Wheeler. Like Lori, Josh’s looks and appetite for adventure belie his 70plus years, and Lori finds herself mesmerized by his blue eyes and sweet talk. Lori is all smiles as she steps out of the shower the next morning — until she sees his lifeless body lying in the bed where they had just made love. The London police naturally suspect Lori, but the case becomes infinitely more complicated when it’s discovered that plenty of people have a motive to murder Josh. On the case is Scotland Yard Inspector Geoffrey Holmes, American FBI agent Jordan Gould, and Lori’s granddaughter Cate and her fiancé, Joseph, who both happen to be London solicitors. Sparks fly, as Cate and Jordan Gould experience a growing mutual attraction, as do Lori and Inspector Holmes. Adding another twist is that Lori’s family has an unforeseen connection to Joseph’s father, Lord Roger Lunt, and to the wealthy German nobleman Baron Joseph Braun and the horror of the Holocaust. So who killed Josh? Was it Josh’s beautiful

girlfriend Suzi, who unexpectedly appears in London? Josh’s Chinese financial backers? British mobsters, who kidnap Lori in an attempt to find Josh’s hidden millions? Was it Baron Braun, who summons Lori to Germany to tell her a 70-year-old secret? Or was it someone else entirely? Murder Across the Ocean can be read as a standalone murder mystery or as the follow-up to Wexler’s book, Lori, the origin story of the plucky protagonist. “Lori Brill combines the unexpected smarts of Miss Marple; the genteel strength of character and family circle of Jessica Fletcher; and the hard-boiled sexiness of V.I. Warshawski,” Wexler said. “Readers who enjoy books about those characters will enjoy Murder Across the Ocean.” About the Author A native Chicagoan, Charlene Wexler has been a teacher, wife, dental office manager, mother and grandmother. In retirement, her lifelong passion for writing has led her to create several essays and novels. Her other books include Murder on Skid Row, Milk and Oranges, Lori and Elephants In The Room. Her newest books, Farewell To South Shore and We Won’t Go Back, are scheduled for publication in 2024. Her work has also appeared in Chicago Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, The Northwest Herald, The JUF Magazine, the Gazette newspaper of Chicago, North Shore Magazine, the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry’s Vision magazine, Alpha Omegan magazine and several blogs. With Valentine’s Day looming, romance is in the air. If you seek love via a dating app, watch for scammers who only love your money. Scammers are using people to funnel stolen money out of the country. This con may look like a classic romance scam, but victims are tricked into illegal activity and can be prosecuted. How the scam works: You join a dating app and start messaging someone who looks amazing. They are the complete package: good-looking, successful, kind… and, most importantly, really into you, too! After chatting for a little while, your new love interest suggests that you chat by text or email rather than through the app. If you do that, you may notice that they also delete their dating profile. Everything seems great, but soon, your new beau has some unusual – but seemingly harmless – requests. They want you to receive money for them and wire it overseas. They may claim to be helping a loved one battling COVID-19, doing a business deal, or representing a charitable organization. If you refuse, your amorous new beau may become hostile, threaten you, or become distant. It turns out that the money they want you to receive is stolen. After stealing it, scammers send the money through someone in the United States, making it harder for authorities to trace. Money laundering and wire fraud are illegal!

Heart Smart RICHARD ZEKVELD This black history month, I will use this column to offer a personal reflection on my experience of moving into and connecting with a predominantly black community over the past fifteen years. I was born and raised on a dairy farm in Ontario, Canada. My siblings and I grew up immersed in the Dutch-Canadian immigrant community, made up of people who left the Netherlands after World War 2 for a fresh start in Canada. Home, church, and school – all were part of our immigrant culture. I grew up learning about Dr. Martin Luther (I’m grateful I did!), but not about Dr. Martin Luther King. The racial history and realities of America felt far removed from us. That doesn’t mean our subculture was immune to a variety of prejudices and biases that afflict all in our fallen world. It’s just that America’s story wasn’t ours. From time to time a sprinkle of pepper entered the saltshaker of my youth. The black man from Trinidad in our church. My brother’s Kenyan college friend who joined us for Christmas break. A Nigerian high school classmate and a few black folks at the Christian college I attended. Mostly, however, my cross-cultural education consisted of “Sister Act” and similar inputs! College history classes kindled my interest in black history. They exposed me to the ugly realities of the transatlantic slave trade and race-based slavery. That learning curve has continued to include the fight to end slavery and the slave trade, the Underground Railroad, Jim Crow, MLK Jr, Civil Rights, red-lining, and current racial dynamics. However, no amount of reading and study, though valuable, substitute for cross-cultural relationships, conversations, and experiences. For me, that has been the story of the last fifteen years. More on that next week. Richard Zekveld Pastor, Covenant Fellowship Church cfcsh.org

DAVE’S HOMILY: The renown late priest who was a world traveler in his duties for the Catholic church made a name for himself as a healer over the years. Thanks to his great faith, Fr. Aniello gave comfort and healing to all who heard him and took in his homilies, but not before giving comfort and kindness to all who asked it of him in healing masses and seminars.. He possessed locution which is a kind of inner communication with the divine voice or revelation. Fr Aniello began his healing ministry in 1995 after an extraordinary personal experience of God’s love for each person. Over the years his healing Masses were legendary. Fr. Dave Simonetti of St. Florian-Christ Our Light in Hegewisch, spoke of Fr Aniello at the Sunday 9 am Mass February 4, 2024. Fr Dave also spoke of Colleen Willard, a devout Catholic who had been stricken with an inoperable brain tumor. In a short time Colleen was totally incapacitated and in excruciating pain. After much suffering Colleen’s family took her on a trip to Medjugorje where she was ultimately cured of her pain and inoperable brain tumor. Colleen’s recovery was complete and some would call her return to health a “miracle.” Non believers would call it a “coincidence.” Those who remain unconvinced need only talk to Colleen. ***

Lunar New Year is the beginning of the new year based on the lunar calendar or lunisolar calendar. The lunar calendars follows the lunar phase while lunisolar calendars follow both the lunar phase and the time of the solar year. The event is celebrated by numerous cultures in various ways at diverse dates. The Lunar New Year is an event celebrated by millions of people across the world on the first new moon of their calendar. Stop Singing the Excuse Song by Janice R Newman Stop singing the excuse song! How often do we find ourselves in the endless tune of “I cannot do this” or “Not today, maybe tomorrow”? Excuses become our safety net, shielding us from discomfort, anxiety, and fear. But instead of propelling us forward with confidence, they anchor us down, preventing us from accomplishing anything but wasting time. Excuses break promises, derail plans, and ultimately hinder our progress. “I can’t” becomes the refrain in our daily lives, making the finish line out of reach. It’s time to change the song, break free from excuse-making, and start achieving. Excuses are loud saboteurs that coerce us into delaying actions like April 15th, lastminute Christmas shopping, going back to school, getting married, having children, taking a vacation, fixing the car, doing laundry, or doing household chores. Excuses come in all forms- cannot do this or that, too young, too old, too educated, not educated enough, not enough money, too short, too tall, not good enough, no help, no one’s done it before. But regardless of the excuse, they all serve the same purpose: to justify our inaction. We become convinced that the tasks are insurmountable or the timing isn’t right. Excuses effectively paralyze us into postponement. But the truth is nothing gets done by making excuses. After the excuses have been made and you or others are convinced they are valid reasons, the task is still there waiting for you. Despite our best intentions, excuses only serve to prolong our journey towards success. We find ourselves looking back, wondering where all the time has gone and why we allowed excuses to hijack our dreams and actions. There will always be something else vying for our attention, but if we believe the excuses, we’ll never accomplish anything. So how do you stop singing the excuse song? Change your mindset. Instead of focusing on why you cannot start focusing on how

you can. Tasks are achievable with the right attitude and approach. Focus your energy on finding solutions and taking proactive. Do not waste precious time and energy on potential roadblocks. List the benefits of accomplishing your tasks. Embrace a mindset of resilience and perseverance, by refusing to let excuses stand in the way. Break the tasks down into smaller, manageable steps. Make a to-do list and prioritize the tasks based on levels of difficulty or order of importance. By tackling the easier task first, it can create a sense of accomplishment, provide motivation, and reduce feeling overwhelmed. The to-do list is a roadmap to stay on track and assist with grouping related items for easier accomplishment like paying bills, making phone calls, or shopping all at one time. Find a buddy to help get the task done, to motivate you, or to provide you with accountability to stay focused and committed. Find supportive individuals to encourage you and remind you of your strengths and abilities to succeed. Turn to God for needed support. Philippians 4:13 reminds us “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” God’s Word gives us guidance to overcome excuses and take action. By refusing to succumb to excuses, we break free from inactivity and start completing tasks. START SINGING A DIFFERENT SONG!!! There is always something to do versus doing what needs to be done. Even completing one or two items on a to-do list reduces stress in your life. It also accomplishes something versus nothing. Seek God’s help to direct your path to complete what you have been called to do. Proverbs 16:3 “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans”. Stop making excuses, change your mindset, complete small tasks, and seek help with the acceptance of the strength and power of God to overcome excuses and move forward. Y? Why Not! www.ywhynot.com

Gotta Follow Da Rules

WOODROW WILCOX On January 29, 2024, I wrote a letter to a client about following the rules to help him with his problem. With some editing to protect his privacy, here is the letter that I wrote. Read and learn something about the Medicare system. Your agent asked me to check a claims statement for you for Date Of Service (DOS) 10/23/23. Your agent’s records show that you had a policy with one insurance company on that date (# XXXX). But the claims report you sent showed what appears to be a policy number that goes with a different insurance company (XXXX). For this reason, I suspect that Medicare failed to update your file to show that you don’t have one insurance company any more. Medicare is slow regarding updates. Enclosed is an article that I wrote on this topic. In order to fix this problem, you, or your

Mrvan Announces Department of Energy Grant for PNW Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan announced a federal grant award for Purdue University Northwest (PNW) from the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. According to the Department of Energy, this funding supports high-impact, applied research, development, and pilot-scale technology validation and demonstration projects that aim to reduce energy usage and industrial greenhouse gas emissions. PNW will receive $7,158,034 to support efforts through the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) to advance further decarbonization of the steelmaking electric arc furnace through alternative injectants and electromagnetic stirring technology. Congressman Mrvan stated, “I applaud the proactive leadership of Chancellor Holford and Dr. Chenn Zhou for successfully utilizing

these invaluable federal resources for their outstanding research initiatives at PNW. I am grateful for the tremendous success of CIVS and the ability of this esteemed research program to continue to improve the ability of Northwest Indiana and our nation to make the most energy-efficient steel in the world.” PNW Chancellor Kenneth C. Holford stated, “This grant is another outstanding example of the impactful work by the CIVS team that will develop clean energy solutions for major industrial sectors and create economic opportunities for our region. With the addition of this latest award, CIVS, led by its director Dr. Chenn Zhou, is bringing Department of Energy federal funding of more than $24 million to Northwest Indiana through multiple projects focused on steel decarbonization, plus engaging with other universities and partners on millions of dollars more in sponsored grant-funded initiatives.”

Real Estate Questions & Answers CATHY & JIM HIGGINS Question: We would like to add some inexpensive security to our home, especially over the winter. What security ideas have you seen while showing different homes? Answer: Here a few ideas. Get to know your neighbors. Neighbors are terrific watchdogs. They want their neighborhood safe, too. Here’s an obvious one, but worth mentioning. Even if your neighborhood feels safe, make locking up a habit. Burglars often test a home by knocking on a door and, if no one answers, they attempt to open it. Keep every exterior door and window locked, including the door between the garage and house. Try faking it. Install dummy security cameras. (Very inexpensive). Pretend to have a dog. Buy a couple of “Beware of Dog” signs at a hardware store and put them up. Place a LARGE dog food bowl on your front and back door locations. Security cameras & systems have gone down in price. Used with signs saying “Security system and cameras in use,” are an excellent way to deter thieves. Talk to the local Police. They will send a trained officer to your home to do a walk through with you, pointing out your

vulnerabilities and suggesting simple fixes. Check your police department’s website for crime statistics and tips. Remember to alert police when you’ll be out of town. Keep the place looking lived in. Rotate lights on timers when you’re gone. Sign up for USPS’ Hold Mail service, reschedule expected deliveries and get friends to drop by randomly to just walk around. Light the night. Install bright, motiontriggered security lights outside the front and back of your home. Buy a dog. Their bark would scare away most intruders. Most burglars work the daytime shift, just like most of us do. They decide whether to hit your home based on appearances: Is it easy to crack or not worth the trouble? The most effective improvements are the ones that persuade a burglar to move on. E-mail us your Real Estate questions at Cathyah@aol.com. Thinking of selling your home? Sims receives Outstanding Legislator of the Year award from Illinois Association of Park Districts CHICAGO – State Senator Elgie R. Sims, Jr. received the Illinois Outstanding Legislator of the Year award from the Illinois Parks Association. “Parks are at the heart of our communities, where families and neighbors gather to grow, prosper, and make priceless memories,” said Sims (D-Chicago). “Bringing forth the concerns of our constituents and crafting policies that will make a meaningful impact to everyday problems faced by residents is our top priority

as a legislative body.” The Illinois Association of Park Districts recognizes legislators for their exceptional support of legislation promoting park districts, forest preserves, recreation and conservation agencies across Illinois. Sims has been a longtime advocate for Illinois parks and is proud to continue to support park districts across Illinois through initiatives like the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant program.

“Parks throughout the 17th District and the state of Illinois are beloved by their communities, and I am always looking for ways to continue to improve them and the experiences our neighbors have while visiting them, while bringing residents the more accessible open spaces they want,” said Sims. “Maintaining our parks is a commitment to our communities and I will proudly continue to work with the IAPD to bring life to our parks and benefit residents across the state.”

Criminal Prosecutions Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Announces the Reopening of Request for Qualifications for Special Assistant State’s Attorneys

Call 708-659-1730 to schedule your free quote!

CHICAGO - The Criminal Prosecutions Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) is reopening the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process for legal professionals interested in serving as Special Assistant State’s Attorneys to represent the People of Cook County in Criminal appellate matters pending in the Criminal Appeals Division. This RFQ was previously open between November 2, 2023, and December 22, 2023. The Cook County Criminal Prosecutions Bureau seeks to establish pre-qualified pools of outside counsel to provide additional resources when specific needs arise. Qualified individuals or firms with a wealth of experience in criminal law, criminal procedure, and appellate advocacy are invited to submit their qualifications. “Cook County’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring fair representation in criminal appellate matters is unwavering. Through the Request for Qualifications process, we are seeking dedicated legal partners who share our values and possess the expertise necessary to serve as Special Assistant State’s Attorneys,” said State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. “Together, we will continue our mission of advocating for the residents of Cook County and fostering a diverse and equitable legal community.” As the second largest prosecutor’s office in the United States and the largest in Illinois, the CCSAO is responsible for prosecuting all criminal cases in Cook County, a jurisdiction with a population of over five million people. In 2021, the CCSAO handled a significant caseload, including over 22,000 new felony cases and more than 62,000 misdemeanor and DUI cases, as well as various civil cases involving juvenile abuse and neglect, delinquency, and mental health cases in the Circuit Court of Cook County. The Criminal Appeals Division of the CCSAO also represents Cook County residents in the Illinois Appellate Court in cases where defendants appeal their convictions or other adverse final judgments. Expertise Requested: The Criminal Prosecutions Bureau is seeking qualified

individuals with expertise in the following areas: Criminal Appellate Advocacy Criminal Prosecution – Trial/Post-Conviction Litigation Proposal Requirements: Qualified individuals or firms interested in submitting qualifications should provide comprehensive information under various headings. These include detailing relevant experience, examples of prior matters, proposed approaches, hourly rates, references, professional liability insurance, conflicts of interest, professional responsibility/violations of law, diversity initiatives, and more. The CCSAO is dedicated to promoting diversity and encourages minority, veteran, and women-owned firms to participate. All forms and details must be completed and included in the final submission in order to be considered. Selection Process: A Selection Panel comprising Criminal Prosecutions Bureau attorneys and CCSAO Executive Staff will meticulously review and evaluate each submission. Finalists may be selected for interviews with CCSAO representatives. Pre-qualified pools of outside counsel will be established in the identified practice areas, and counsel will be selected from these pools based on factors such as case backlog, complexity, and past performance. Other Information: Participation in the RFQ process does not guarantee appointment or commitment to specific billing structures. The CCSAO retains the authority to select outside counsel as needed, and participation in the RFQ process does not bind outside counsel to conduct work at any predetermined rate. Proposal Submission: Those interested should submit completed forms and qualifications electronically by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, to sao.submissions@cookcountysao.org. Submissions should be in searchable PDF format and should indicate the relevant areas of expertise. For more information, please visit our website.

Mrvan Floor Statement on Immigration Legislation Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan spoke on the House floor regarding immigration legislation. A video of the Congressman delivering the statement on the House floor is available here, and the full statement as prepared for delivery is below. “I rise today to express my deep frustration with the unfortunate approach that the House majority is pursuing this week with regard to immigration legislation. “On a personal note, this past week, I held a series of Community Forums throughout Indiana’s First Congressional District, and at each one, the topic of immigration reform and the challenge of securing our Southern border was front and center. “Constituents throughout the region expressed great concern regarding the national security implications related to the increase in migrants, as well as the great need for increased border security agents, for administrative judges, for technology to monitor our border, and for resources to address drug and human trafficking. “More broadly, there was a real desire to comprehensively solve this problem in a bipartisan manner, requiring not only government and federal contractor employers but all employers to utilize the E-Verify system to ensure no labor is being exploited, as well as honor our commitment to Dreamers. “At our Community Forums, we also discussed the devastating impacts of fentanyl, highlighting how our district is home to an international port of entry that must be secure. In my prior

position as a local elected official, I often hosted narcan training sessions. I recollect one such program during a polar vortex with 60 below wind chills and no less than 150 individuals attended a training session because drug traffickers flooded our region with fentanyl laced heroin. My office helped assist with burials for many of those who lost the struggle with addiction, and I carry each one of those with me. This is real life, and I pull from these experiences every day for my resolve to move forward with real legislative solutions. “We are not solving the problem by debating bills for a political advantage, when there is a pending appropriations supplemental emergency request that would fund an additional 1,300 border security agents, amongst other priorities. “We are not solving the problem by debating bills to try to further divide us, when there is a bipartisan policy solution pending in the Senate that regrettably has been declared dead on arrival in the House. “This is a national security issue and I am seeking an immigration solution that is strong, secure, and humane. “I implore my colleagues and the majority party to not jeopardize innocent lives and the safety of our communities by waiting to address this pressing issue until after the election. Let’s put these solutions up for a vote so the American people can see if we stand for results or if we stand for political theater.”
