Chicago Entrepreneur Debuts Graphic Novel To Inspire Hope, Promote Diversity

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – Since launching her creative media hub, Morganacity, in Chicago, Morgan Middleton has remained on a mission to create meaningful stories that inspire, enlighten, and highlight those who have been underrepresented and misrepresented in media and society across generations.

“I have always been interested in the arts,” said Middleton, who also performs with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. “As I got older, the arts became about community, service, collaboration, and creating something bigger than oneself. It’s become more about what I can do as an artist to influence positive change and push myself creatively.”

Morgan Middleton, Morganacity FounderLate last year, Middleton’s company released its first graphic novel, Asteria: The Legend of the Fallen Star. The 89-page book is the first in a series featuring a smart, yet shy 14-year-old Black girl named Celeste Evans as the lead character.

In the series, Celeste has perfected the art of camouflage, inspired in part by her life on an Army base, but mostly by her shyness. She prefers to slip under the radar, but when she is plucked from her ordinary suburban life and placed into a galactic military boarding school, Celeste must squash her own insecurities and find her true purpose.

According to a 2015 University of South Carolina study, Black characters in comics were disproportionately portrayed as lower class and possessing less agency [Example: a character’s ability to act intentionally as a protagonist or aggressor] than white characters.”

A person smiling at the camera Description automatically generatedMiddleton’s book series aims to remind girls to never underestimate the power that they hold, and to push themselves to find their inner purpose. The book is currently available on Amazon.

“I am tremendously proud of this book and the people behind the pages. Our brilliant illustrator Brittany Osaseri and our marvelous colorist Yaine Belfort put their heart and soul into this book, and it really shows. I am so happy that the types of characters, the journeys and the magic that exists in this book are something that can now be shared with a larger audience,” Middleton said.

Following the release of her graphic novel, Middleton said her company has no plans to slow down. She recently finished production and is participating in the film festival circuit with her first short film, Erlkönig, which addresses gun violence and health inequities Morgan Middleton, Morganacity Founderwithin Black and Brown communities. She’s also actively working on other projects.

“Asteria Book 2 is already in the works and our team is working hard to get the book in a good position by next year. We are also currently in the pre-production phase of our next short film, which deals with Alzheimer’s disease and are seeking funding for a third film, Forever and a Day, a woman’s story about love and loss, which will be around 45 minutes long,” Middleton said.

Illinoisans with a debt of $48k not considered ‘marriage material’, reveals survey.

It’s a match! You’ve swiped right on killer smiles and profiles claiming a love for adventure, artisan coffee, and rescue dogs. But what happens when things get serious and the biggest adventure becomes navigating the choppy waters of personal debt?

Imagine a scenario where a person is contemplating a marriage proposal, only to discover their significant other bears a $50,000 debt. While not legally obligated, they face the moral and practical realities of shouldering this financial burden together. The question then arises: Does a $50,000 debt deter a commitment? What if that number doubles? It’s a question that DatingAdvice.com sought an answer to. It surveyed 3,000 singles to ask a hypothetical question:

If you were in a relationship with someone and planning a lifelong partnership, what levels of debt (if any) would deter you from committing to them?

The magic number where cold feet set in? A cool $48,224 if you live in Illinois (though this is lower than the national average of $52,024), according to the survey. While some might argue that love transcends monetary concerns, the reality is that a $48,224 debt could severely constrain a couple’s financial freedom. In fact, this level of debt is several times the national average.

Location does play a role in these financial deal-breakers. Montanans get money-shy at a mere $10,000, while the lovebirds in Wyoming won’t balk until the debt hits a whopping $100,000. Geography, it seems, is destiny when it comes to fiscal matters of the heart.

The study by DatingAdvice.com didn’t stop there; it explored when financial obligations should be disclosed in a relationship. A mere 7% believed it should be mentioned on the first date, while the majority, 67%, felt it

appropriate to wait until the relationship was exclusive. Eighteen percent preferred to wait until engagement, and a cautious 8% chose to wait until marriage.

Debt Dealbreakers: In a world where online profiles might stretch the truth about the years (and the year of the photo), fibbing about finances is the real romance killer. When asked to weigh the sin of age-fudging against debtdodging, 70% of survey respondents agreed that a hidden heap of bills is the ultimate swipeleft offense.

The survey also entertained the notion of dating apps displaying credit scores, questioning whether it would make profiles more swipeworthy. The crowd is split. While 47% of survey participants said they would pass on a low scorer, a surprisingly chill 53% said they wouldn’t let a number define their nuptial narrative.

Furthermore, a significant 59% of survey participants admitted they would reevaluate their relationship upon discovering a partner’s excessive spending habits, proving that a taste for champagne on a beer budget can sour a sweet connection.

In a revealing twist, over half (54%) of the respondents advocated for maintaining separate bank accounts even within the sanctity of marriage, suggesting that “what’s mine is yours” might need a modern rewrite.

“It has long been established that financial compatibility is key in relationships, but our latest survey reveals just how critical it is. As people become more financially savvy, they’re looking for partners who share their fiscal values and goals. Transparency about debt and spending habits is paramount in forming strong, lasting bonds. Love may be blind, but when it comes to debt, people prefer to go into relationships with their eyes wide open”, says Amber Brooks from DatingAdvice.com.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of complacency, where we become content with whatever life brings our way. But what if there’s more to life than just settling for what’s handed to us? Breaking strongholds in our lives means choosing not to be complacent, especially when it comes to our careers, relationships, health, finances, and spiritual life. Complacency keeps us stuck where we are, preventing us from making improvements in our lives, or from reaching our full potential. Here are a few ways to break free of complacency: Career: Not all careers can be exciting or adventurous. Most jobs or careers are often mundane with regular patterns of work activities. When you’re complacent, you’re okay with staying where you are without trying to improve or move up the ladder. People who don’t like their position will not seek different employment or career opportunities because they become used to it. They think it’s too hard to change or think their dreams of getting promoted or starting a business are unrealistic. To move forward, you must take the initiative and be proactive. Invest in professional development courses, workshops, or certifications to increase your skills. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone to help you learn and grow professionally.

Relationships: Over time, people become accustomed to their partner’s or friend’s presence and stop making efforts to express their feelings or communicate effectively. They become complacent by not prioritizing quality time together, which leads to disconnect and loneliness. They may choose to ignore problems or sweep them under the rug, creating resentment and stagnation. To avoid this, plan regular date nights and activities to spend time together, create new memories, and invest in building a strong and fulfilling relationship.

Health: People can become complacent in their health by neglecting preventative care, regular check-ups, and screenings. Individuals believe they are invulnerable to illness or disease, or they downplay their symptoms, which can lead to delayed diagnosis or worsening existing conditions. Others

simply accept their symptoms and illness as a permanent condition that they must live with. They accept taking medication and regular doctor appointments versus looking for ways to improve their condition if possible. Implement eating a balanced diet, add an exercise routine, and prioritize seven to nine hours of quality sleep each night. Educate yourself about your health conditions and inquire with your doctors on how to improve your condition, medication modifications, treatment options, or incorporate a healthier lifestyle.

Finance: Be actively engaged with your finances to avoid complacency. Financial complacency is neglecting to budget and track expenses, spending without thought, or relying on the assumption that your income will cover expenses. Lacking a budget can lead to overspending, debt accumulation, and difficulty achieving financial goals. Financial complacency can lead to stagnation, failing to save or invest, or pursuing additional sources of income. To avoid complacency, set clear financial goals, save for emergencies, create a budget to track income and expenses, and regularly review your finances, bills, credit reports, and statements for ways to save.

Spiritual Life: Spiritual complacency is simply going through the motions without truly engaging with your belief. People routinely attend church out of habit but do not genuinely desire a spiritual connection or fulfillment with God. They may remain content with their current level of knowledge and understanding, prayer life, avoid reading the Bible, and limit their faith by failing to integrate it into their daily decisions and interactions. Avoid complacency by dedicating time to studying the bible to increase your faith and reflect on how the readings apply to your life. Seek spiritual guidance from mentors, leaders, or fellow believers. Join a midweek bible study for additional teachings. Let’s strive to break free from complacency and pursue the life that God has planned for us. Y? Why Not! For more information, please visit https:// www.facebook.com/ywhynotshow/

Real Estate

Questions & Answers

CATHY

Question: I am a first-time homebuyer interested in purchasing a home or condo with the hopes of re-selling in five years or so. Do you think I stand to make more of a profit by purchasing a home or a condominium?

Answer: You are not buying a category of homes, such as all single-family detached properties or condos in the form of a townhouse or flat. Instead you are buying one property and that particular property may do better or worse than like properties nationwide or like properties locally for a variety of reasons.

But there should be caution here. First, no two real estate transactions are alike -- they are each non-homogeneic -- a fancy way to say that each location is specific and unique and that each purchase or sale occurs at one time, with one set of buyers and sellers and with one set of circumstance. Change any factor and the deal might be different.

The unique nature of real estate makes comparisons difficult. Example: All properties in say, Smithville increase in value except one. If you own that one losing

property then the good news shared by your neighbors doesn’t hold much benefit for you. One hundred percent of your real estate holdings have lost value.

Second, no one knows that a given form of property, or any property, will be more valuable in the future, either on a cash basis or after inflation. Real estate is a commodity and values can rise or fall. While the record for real estate has generally been good, there are no guarantees.

Try this: Buy the property that works best for you in terms of your needs, preferences and finances. Look for areas of future growth and properties you can fix up and improve with your labor.

SUNDAY SERVICE.......................10:00 AM

Heart Smart RICHARD ZEKVELD

Nothing prepared me for the murder of George Floyd and what followed. From the moment I found out via an anguished text from a close black friend, I was forced to grapple, as a person and pastor, with competing narratives about racism in America. I felt pressure to do something, say something, protest, preach, put a BLM sign on my lawn. Who wanted to be the 2020 equivalent of the ‘moderate’ white clergy Dr. Martin Luther King rebuked in his Letter from Birmingham Jail? Not me!

However, I struggled to understand the moment I was in, what was true and what wasn’t. I couldn’t simply jump on a bandwagon without the settled conviction that I should.

This made me pray. I wanted to understand. I wanted to know who I needed to be in the mix. God is answering those prayers.

In his book Just Mercy, Bryan Stevenson writes that he loved the way his grandma would hug him tight. Then she would say to him, “You can’t understand most of the important things from a distance, Bryan. You have to get close.” Jesus got close to right all that is wrong in us and our world. I want to do likewise.

Getting close helps me see wrongs that need to be righted. Connecting regularly with incarcerated men has made me care about criminal justice reform and start reading about it.

Last Saturday, getting close also let me glimpse how the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) helps youth envision a future in engineering and works to close the disparity between blacks and others in the field. A shout out to a friend who headed up that event.

Getting close in these ways helps me discern God’s calling for me in the mix.

Will Co. suburban teen finds passion in FFA

If you told Mark Jones II four years ago that he would be excited about FFA, he probably would have laughed at you.

In eighth grade, the suburban youth was much more interested in video games than agriculture. In choosing his high school classes, he shied away from taking an ag class.

“I’m not a farmer. I have never driven a tractor. I would fail,” was his initial reaction to the idea.

Before FFA, the closest he felt to agriculture and food was making pizzas with his aunt at Casey’s.

Despite his misgivings, he took the ag class. And he didn’t fail. In fact, he excelled in FFA competitions, served as the Section 10 vice president for two years and is now a teacher’s aide at Peotone High School working on his third FFA record book.

Jones is so inspired by his ag teachers, husband-and-wife team Abby and Dakota Cowger, the high school senior said he is planning on becoming an ag teacher himself. Jones plans to start at Joliet Junior College and transfer to Illinois State University.

He wants to connect with, and inspire, other students as his teachers inspired him and bring diversity and innovation.

“I haven’t had a teacher who looks like myself,” Jones told FarmWeek. The high school senior said he wants other eighthgraders, who may have never considered an agricultural career, to be able to explore the possibilities.

Dakota Cowger, who was a student at the high school before becoming a teacher in Will County, said most of his students today are suburban kids. Only four or five of the northeastern Illinois school’s 187 FFA students “are true farm kids”, he said.

Earlier this month, six of his students traveled to Kankakee Community College to interview for their State FFA degrees. Each of these members met the qualifications including FFA leadership, supervised ag experiences (SAE), public speaking and community service.

“We are so excited to announce all six were recommended for their State Degree along with one being named a Section Star,” Cowger said. “That’s the most our program has ever had.”

Section Star Emma Bialko is one of the top 25 in the state for Ag Placement in 2024, Cowger said.

Mark Jones II never expected to be seeking an agricultural career when he joined FFA at Peotone High School. Now he’s on a course to be an ag teacher.

While FFA members and supporters across the country celebrate National FFA Week Feb. 17-24, Peotone FFA members are active throughout the year with community service projects including food drives and the “Wreaths Across Peotone” project inspired by the Wreaths Across America at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood to honor veterans. More than 75 Peotone FFA 75 members helped make and place 100 wreaths in December, Cowger said.

Students are getting ready for their annual fundraiser auction Feb. 25 to raise money to support the program, said Cowger, who is also a farmer.

Members take a short breath before delving into preparation for the 2024 Will County Ag Expo, March 12-14 at the Weitendorf Agricultural Education Center at Joliet Junior College, with their Will County Farm Bureau partners.

This story was distributed through a cooperative project between Illinois Farm Bureau and the Illinois Press Association. For more food and farming news, visit FarmWeekNow.com.

Sen. Charbonneau receives State HealthCommissionerAward

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 22, 2024) – State Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R-Valparaiso) received an award from State Health Commissioner Linsay Weaver, M.D., FACEP, for supporting public health today.

Charbonneau was selected to receive the award because of legislation he authored during the 2023 legislative session that made a historic investment in Health First Indiana, a public health infrastructure program to help Hoosiers access core public health services.

“As chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Provider Services, I am always dedicated

to finding ways to expand Indiana’s health care system to make it more accessible for all Hoosiers,” Charbonneau said. “I’m thankful for Dr. Weaver’s guidance on many of the health care bills I work on during session and I look forward to continuing to work with her to find more ways to further improve health care for all.”

Charbonneau received the award during Public Health Day at the Statehouse, where public health advocates celebrated the role of public health in Hoosiers’ lives and to learn about current initiatives to improve how services can be delivered to those across the state.

The Towle Theater has hired a new Executive Director

As the longtime duo - Kevin Bellamy, Director of Administration and Jeff Casey, managing Director, announce their retirement at the end of 2024, the Towle Theater would like to welcome their new Executive Director, Emily Nelson. Emily will be taking the helm as Jeff Casey and Kevin Bellamy concentrate solely on the artistic aspects at the Towle Theater throughout its 21st Season. The Towle Board of Directors is thrilled to have such an experienced leader joining the team.

Emily is an experienced actor, director, and teaching artist. She studied acting at Columbia College Chicago and spent years training at the Goodman Theatre where she began her career as a teaching artist. Emily has spent most of her time working for the non-for-profit, The Beverly Arts Center. There she held the title of Associate

Artistic Director and streamlined a successful Youth Theatre Program.

Outgoing Managing Director, Jeff Casey said “We launched a search late last year and among all the interested candidates, Emily was far and away our top choice. The board acted swiftly, and Emily was able to begin her Towle journey on February 1”. “Kevin and I couldn’t be happier with such an accomplished artist taking over the day-to-day operations at the Towle”. New executive director Emily Nelson said “Embarking on this new journey fills me with excitement and gratitude. I’m eager to dive in and make the most of this opportunity. Special thanks to Jeff and Kevin for their support and belief in me. Let’s make great things happen together!”

Ag education programs growing in Illinois

A grant program has helped increase number of agriculture teachers and agriculture education programs in the state.

In 2014, there were 320 agriculture programs with 386 teachers. That number grew to 386 agriculture programs with 547 teachers in the 2023-24 school year, according to data from Facilitating Coordination in Agricultural Education (FCAE).

“To me, it tells a story about being able to reach more students in more places to learn about agriculture,” said Jesse Faber, agriculture teacher and FFA adviser for Pontiac Township High School.

Faber has been teaching agriculture for 18 years and is finishing a doctorate program in ag education. His dissertation focuses on the recruitment and retention of teachers in Illinois. He told FarmWeek, “The number of teachers and programs has been escalating over the last seven years. Right in the middle of that, the Three Circle FFA and SAE Grant started.”

Through this grant program, which began in 2017, full-time ag teachers can receive pay for 400 hours outside of their usual teaching obligations. The teacher’s school district pays 50% using the grant dollars and the other half is often covered by the school district or community partners.

“The most valuable piece is to be able to embed agriculture in a student’s education so we can connect with young people in this industry that I love and help them become more educated consumers,” Faber said. “It is crucial to allow FFA programs to grow because every student can have a place in it. I encourage everyone to support your local agriculture program.”

FCAE state coordinator, Jennifer Waters, contributes ag program growth to the Three Circle Grant and an ag teacher’s ability to fill home economics, industrial arts and science teacher roles.

“We have these teaching vacancies happening, but the grant is what sweetens the pot,” she

said. “We can say to the district not only are we going to help you by picking up these classes that you couldn’t find someone for, but we’re also able to give a stipend to help pay this teacher for their extended time.”

Adding ag teachers and giving them compensation for the extra time in their jobs has had an impact on student participation. “Now the teacher is getting paid to do the extra, so they are going to other events and other activities. Student participation is growing because of this,” Waters said.

The Illinois 2023 Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Education Report showed an increase of almost 10,000 students since the implementation of the Three Circle Grant.

“With the increase in agriculture programs offered, there are teaching roles that do not get filled,” Waters said.

“In most cases, we’re able to work with school districts so the next year we can fill the position,” she said. “But I will say the Three Circle Grant has helped with retaining the teachers we have.”

Faber said, “We’re very thankful to FCAE for what they’ve done. They are wonderful researchers who are building bridges and opening up ag programs.”

To fill teaching vacancies, a selection of teachers are coming from the ag industry with non-traditional licenses. FCAE offers teacher training in addition to first-year ag teachers conferences to help these teachers grow their knowledge.

FCAE provides further support to ag teachers through workshops, grant application assistance and overall advocacy. Additionally, FCAE has created a Chicagoland program adviser position to further develop agriculture programs in urban areas.

A Wonderful Card From A Client

WOODROW WILCOX

On February 13, 2024, I got a wonderful card from a client and his family. Over the years, I have received many cards from clients that I helped with Medicare related medical bill problems. Some clients did not send me a card but took me to lunch. I appreciated every kindness extended to me.

But the card that I got on February 13, 2024 had a handwritten note that was very special to me. I want to share part of that note here.

Dear Woody,

My family and I are deeply grateful for your compassion, service, and expertise. You have made a tremendous positive impact on so many people, and that does not go unnoticed. I especially appreciate your written articles by which you educate all of us about cases that you solved and the issues that you mitigated. You taking the time and effort to share your wisdom

even after a long, exhausting day of battling enormous healthcare institutions is genuinely astounding and a rare, precious gift.

May God grant you excellent health, a long life, and many more decades of winning battles and touching lives. Thank you for all that you do and, most importantly, for being who you are.

This note really encouraged me. I really appreciated it and the family that sent it to me. I recently returned to work after being in a hospital and rehab center.

Note: Woodrow Wilcox is the senior medical bill case worker at Senior Care Insurance Services in Merrillville. He has saved clients of that firm over three million dollars by fighting mistakes and fraud in the Medicare system. Also, Wilcox wrote the book SOLVING MEDICARE PROBLEM$ which can be ordered through book stores or online.

How can women bridge the retirement gap?

March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day for celebrating all the accomplishments of women around the globe. But many women still need to make up ground in one key area: retirement security.

Women’s challenges in achieving a secure retirement are due to several factors, including these:

• Pay gap – It’s smaller than it once was, but a wage gap still exists between men and women. In fact, women earn, on average, about 82 cents for every dollar that men earn, according to the Census Bureau. And even though this gap narrows considerably at higher educational levels, it’s still a source of concern. Women who earn less than men will likely contribute less to 401(k) plans and will ultimately see smaller Social Security checks.

• Longer lives – At age 65, women live, on average, about 20 more years, compared to almost 17 for men, according to the Social Security Administration. Those extra years mean extra expenses.

• Caregiving responsibilities –Traditionally, women have done much of the caregiving for young children and older parents. And while this caregiving is done with love, it also comes with financial sacrifice. Consider this: The average employment-related costs for mothers providing unpaid care is nearly $300,000 over a lifetime, according to the U.S. Department of Labor — which translates to a reduction of 15% of lifetime earnings. Furthermore, time away from the workforce results in fewer contributions to 401(k) and other employer-sponsored retirement plans. Ultimately, these issues can leave women with a retirement security deficit. Here are some moves that can help close this gap:

• Contribute as much as possible to retirement plans. Try to contribute as much as you can afford to your 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored

retirement plan. Your earnings can grow tax deferred and your contributions can lower your taxable income. (With a Roth 401(k), contributions aren’t deductible, but earnings and withdrawals are tax free, provided you meet certain conditions.) At a minimum, contribute enough to earn your employer’s matching contribution, if one is offered, and try to boost your contributions whenever your salary goes up. If you don’t have access to a 401(k), but you have earned income, you can contribute to an IRA. Even if you don’t have earned income, but you have a spouse who does, you might be eligible to contribute to a spousal IRA.

• Maximize Social Security benefits. You can start taking Social Security at 62, but your monthly checks will be much bigger if you can afford to wait until your full retirement age, which will be around 66½. If you are married, you may want to coordinate your benefits with those of your spouse — in some cases, it makes sense for the spouse with the lower benefits to claim first, based on their earnings record, and apply for spousal benefits later, when the spouse with higher benefits begins to collect.

• Build an emergency fund. Try to build an emergency fund containing up to six months’ worth of living expenses, with the money kept in a liquid account. Having this fund available will help protect you from having to dip into your retirement accounts for large, unexpected costs, such as a major home or car repair. It’s unfortunate, but women still must travel a more difficult road than men to reach retirement security. But making the right moves can help ease the journey.

From Baristas to Bakers: Owning an Artisanal Bakery is Illinoisans’ Dream Job in the Age of AI, Survey Finds.

In an era when artificial intelligence is reshaping the job market, many professionals may find themselves at a crossroads. The shift could render some white-collar jobs obsolete, propelling millions to explore new career avenues or embrace entrepreneurship. Amid this transformative phase, HostingAdvice conducted a survey of 3,000 employees to find out Illinoisans’ dream business ventures that not only ignite their passion but are also resilient in the face of AI advancements. These were Illinois’ top choices:

#1. Artisanal Bakery

The highest-favored dream job in the Prairie State is the artisanal bakery, which caters to the growing consumer demand for locally sourced and organic products. With the organic food market projected to grow significantly, bakers have an opportunity to capitalize on this trend. Moreover, bakeries can become community staples, offering a sensory experience and a personal connection to food that AI and mass production cannot match. And they’re able to achieve this while tapping into a profitable niche in the food industry.

#2. Pet Boutique and Grooming Service

The pet boutique and grooming service, a sector that’s proven to be recession-resistant, ranks as the second most popular business venture among Illinois professionals thanks to consumer spending on pets on a steady rise, even during economic downturns. The humananimal bond is something AI cannot fulfill, and pet services can leverage this by offering personalized care and niche products that cater to the discerning pet owner, tapping into a multibillion-dollar industry.

#3. Boutique Bookstore

The boutique bookstore is riding the wave of a resurgent interest in independent bookshops, which have seen an increase of nearly 50% over the past decade. These ventures go beyond selling books; they offer curated experiences and foster community engagement through events. This business is about leveraging cultural trends and consumer desire for authentic experiences to create a thriving, intellectually rich environment.

#4. Specialty Coffee Shop

Illinoisans ranked owning a specialty coffee shop as their fourth favorite dream job. This preference isn’t surprising when considering the coffee industry’s resilience and growth. The global specialty coffee market is projected to grow by more than 50% by 2028, according to Research Reports World. Beyond the profit potential, owning a coffee shop offers entrepreneurs the chance to craft a brand experience that AI can’t replicate, leveraging

the personal touch of skilled baristas to create a loyal customer base that values artisanal quality and authentic engagement.

#5. Gourmet Food Truck

The gourmet food truck is the fifth most popular entrepreneurial dream for those looking to enter the food service market with a lower initial investment than a traditional restaurant. Food trucks offer flexibility and the opportunity to directly engage with different communities, capitalizing on the street food market’s growth, which is expected to surge globally. This business combines culinary passion with strategic location planning to maximize profits.

#6. Health and Wellness Retreat

Entrepreneurs are increasingly drawn to the sixth-ranked dream job, health and wellness retreats, as projections for the wellness tourism sector show exponential growth. This business isn’t just about providing a service; it’s about delivering personalized well-being experiences. Operators can benefit from the high customer willingness to pay for health and self-care services that offer a human-centric approach to wellness.

#7. Art Gallery and Studio Space

The seventh-ranked dream job in Illinois, running an art gallery and studio space, offers a unique proposition in the art market, which has seen a democratization thanks to online sales and social media. By creating a physical space for art that also embraces the digital revolution, entrepreneurs can attract a broad audience. With the global art market valued at close to $70 billion in 2022, there’s ample opportunity to create profitable events and workshops that capitalize on people’s desire for cultural enrichment and personal expression.

#8. Eco-Friendly Home Goods Store

Eighth on the list is the eco-friendly home goods store, which aligns with a global sustainability market that’s growing rapidly as consumers become more environmentally conscious. With sustainability at the forefront of consumer trends, this business can tap into a market where 73% of global consumers say they would change their consumption habits to reduce their environmental impact. It’s a sector ripe for innovation and personal consumer education, where trust and authenticity in the brand can drive significant business growth.

“The surge of AI presents as much an opportunity as it does a challenge. Our survey has revealed that the entrepreneurial spirit remains undeterred, eager to find new paths that AI won’t tread. These dream businesses are not just ventures; they are beacons of human ingenuity and connection,” said Christina Lewis from HostingAdvice.com.

Manage Spring Allergies

Spring brings warmer weather, blossoming flowers, and longer days, but for many, it also heralds the arrival of seasonal allergies. Sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, and other bothersome symptoms can put a damper on enjoying the beauty of the season. However, with some proactive measures, managing spring allergies can become more manageable, allowing you to embrace the joys of springtime.

First and foremost, identifying your triggers is essential. Knowing what allergens affect you the most can help you take targeted steps to minimize exposure. Common culprits include pollen from trees, grasses, and weeds, as well as mold spores. By keeping track of your symptoms and observing patterns, you can better understand which allergens to watch out for.

Monitoring pollen counts is another crucial aspect of managing spring allergies. Checking pollen forecasts regularly can help you plan your outdoor activities accordingly. High pollen levels, typically on warm, dry, and windy days, may prompt you to stay indoors or take precautions such as keeping windows closed and using air conditioning with HEPA filters to reduce indoor pollen exposure.

Allergy-proofing your home is also essential. Regular cleaning and vacuuming can help remove pollen and mold spores from indoor surfaces. Consider using allergen-proof bedding covers and keeping pets out of the bedroom to prevent allergens from accumulating in your sleeping area.

When it comes to relieving symptoms, over-the-counter medications can be helpful.

Antihistamines, decongestants, and nasal corticosteroids can alleviate sneezing, itching, congestion, and runny nose. However, it’s essential to consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist to determine the most suitable medications for your symptoms and medical history.

For those with severe allergies or those seeking long-term relief, immunotherapy may be an option. Allergy shots or sublingual immunotherapy can desensitize the immune system to specific allergens over time, reducing the severity of allergic reactions.

Protecting your eyes from allergens is also crucial. Wearing sunglasses or eyeglasses with wraparound frames can shield your eyes, while lubricating eye drops can provide relief from itching and irritation caused by allergic conjunctivitis.

Additionally, practicing nasal irrigation with saline rinses or nasal irrigation systems can help clear nasal passages of allergens and mucus, providing relief from congestion and sinus pressure.

Maintaining hydration and a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and anti-inflammatory foods can also support your immune system and reduce allergy symptoms.

By incorporating these strategies into your daily routine, you can better manage spring allergies and enjoy the season with greater comfort and ease. If symptoms persist or worsen, consulting with an allergist or healthcare professional can provide personalized advice and treatment options tailored to your needs.
