(Special Report from Orlando) From Aug 2 to Aug 7, The American Culinary Federation (ACF) successfully held its annual convention in the World Marriott Resort in Orlando, FL. This 5-day convention featured the Board of Governors’ Meeting where the Federation’s newly elected president is announced, as well as the American Academy of Chefs (AAC) Fellows Meeting and banquet. Mr. Kenny Tang, Chairman of Greater Miami Asian Business Coalition (GMABC), and Vice President of Broward County Chapter of ACF, attended this exciting event. In addition to the grand ribbon cutting and award banquet, more than ten world-class master presenters gave multiple themed speeches, conducted wonderful cook demonstrations and facilitated seminars regarding American culinary trends. The Convention also offered food tasting and organized contests of the wonderful cuisines from all over America. The highest point of the Convention arrived when Ms. Kimberly Brock Brown, elected by all the members of ACF, was announced to serve as the new ACF national president, making her the first female president in the near-century history of ACF. Her winning is well deserved. Her unwavering enthusiasm and dedication to the food industry over the past decades are what led to this great accomplishment. Ms. Brown leads by example to today’s younger generation of women. She proves that females play an equally important role in the traditionally male-dominant culinary world. Her success is truly admirable and inspiring.

During the Convention, Mr. Kenny Tang, Chairman of GMABC, Vice President of Broward County Chapter of ACF, and Executive Vice President of American Chinese Culinary Association (Florida), engaged in extensive and detailed conversations with Ms. Brown, the new President of ACF. The topics are as follows: 1. To promote more active participation of chefs from the Chinese Culinary Industry in the ACF activities, which in turn encourages more involvement of Chinese Americans in various aspects of American mainstream society 2. To start the Chinese Culinary Federation under ACF 3. To help promote the ACF certification programs among Chinese restaurants chefs, aligning the Chinese cuisine cooking and management standards with the national standards. 4. To facilitate the cooperation between ACF and the relevant associations in mainland China. 5. To explore new ways to promote young Americans’ interest in learning and understanding Chinese cuisine, providing platforms and scholarship as stimuli. 6. To seek ways to create synergy, leverage resources, encourage cultural communication between Eastern and Western Cuisines and further business partnerships. The next national ACF convention will be held in Las Vegas in July, 2022. GMABC will participate and assist in hosting of the event and organizing various activities, including a keynote speech on the future of Chinese cuisine and live demos of Chinese cooking. We hope this opportunity serves as a starting point for working together with chefs from ACF star hotels, joining hands in the national charity exhibition of Chinese and Western Cuisine, and presenting Chinese Cuisine in a brand-new manner to the American mainstream society. As the saying goes, “Fashion is in Europe, Living is in America, but eating is in China.” Through collaborations with ACF, GMABC is dedicated to further enhancing the popularity of Chinese cuisine around the world.
