What is a Female Executive? I am the one that makes the bread, weaves the fabric, creates the peace, negotiates the smiles, shuts it down and wakes it all back up. I am the Swiss Army Knife of mankind. I am the one that gives birth and keeps life goingwhether I have to nudge it with my heart, my mind, my blood or my foot! I keep the bass rhythm of life moving. I am that female that executes the needed, the necessary and the fantastic. I am THAT female executive.

From the Editor and Chief Creative Officer Welcome to the Harvest 2016 Issue of E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive. This month we honor female vets and of course the spirit of thanks giving. The theme is “Who’s shoulders Are We Standing On” Before we start this issue and as we approach the conclusion of this year, I wanted to make a few key points about passing into “the New’ or “the next” level of your life. I will equate this concept to the children of Israel coming out of Egypt but not being quite ready to possess the new land. They were out of Egypt but Egypt wasn’t out of them. Their minds, their memory, their being still held the continence of enslavement. Bringing that concept forward, we tend to hold on to trauma during our human experience. It is good sense to remember where and how your “hurt” originated so we avoid it again at all cost. And the hurt we already have, we craftily hide it somewhere in our person or being out of public view. Pain imprints our minds as distinctly as a tattoo and we avoid any similar scenarios that could lead up to another episode. However, when we do that. It’s called masking. We are actually walking around with an injury, emotionally limping in order to not put our full weight on the injury. And with that behavior, we miss a full life-being overly cautious and afraid. In Physical therapy just as emotional therapy, one of the first things the therapist does is get you back into the situation so you don’t set up long term resistance to future similar situations-essentially killing that part of your life. Heal, renew and jump back into life, take the E ticket. Life is too short to be overly cautious and fearful about anything. Engage your life by having one. I hope you enjoy this issue. -Althea Ledford Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

5 Best

Ways to Use Keywords in Your cial Media arketing Page 37 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Is it necessary for you to use keywords in your social media marketing? The answer is yes, it is necessary. Why is it necessary? It’s because by using keywords, you will be able to optimize your social media pages for high search engine ranking. Moreover, you want your target audience to find your social media pages when they type certain keywords in the search engine. But, how should you place your keywords in your social media promotions?

Here are the 5 best ways to use keywords in your social media marketing: 1. Put Your Keywords Naturally In Your Social Media Posts Page 38 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

The first rule that you need to remember is that you have to put your keywords naturally in your social media posts. You should not insert keywords where it is not appropriate to do so, or when the sentence will become awkward to read. Moreover, since your social media posts are usually simple and quick to read, you should make sure that your keywords will fit well with your posts.

2. Optimize Your Social Media Profiles with Your Target Keywords Your social media profiles are the pages that your audience will see first. So, it is better Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

for you to optimize your social media profiles with your target keywords. What are the main keywords that you want to target? Be sure that you are using those keywords in your profiles. Just take a look at the main services that you offer in your business and place the keywords related to your services in your profile page.

appropriate, and not force your way in doing that. When it is not appropriate for you to insert any keywords, you don’t need to do that. You simply publish your post without any keywords to target.

3. Try to Insert Keywords In Your Social Media Interactions

Use a good social media analyzer tool to track your social media metrics. It is useful for you to assess your overall performance in social media. It is important to track the traffic that you get from your social media pages. You should also compare this traffic with the traffic that you get before you insert any keywords in your social media pages. In this way, you will be able to know how much traffic improvement that you make in your social media promotion. You can also compare the traffic that you get from different keywords that you target.

You should also try to insert your target keywords in your social media interactions where possible. It means that when you respond to the comments of your followers, you can insert your keywords in your comments. It can also help you to boost the search engine ranking for your social media pages. The more comments that you get in your social media pages, the more opportunities that you have for you to rank your page higher in the search engine.

4. Keep Your Keywords at a Minimum While it is important for you to insert your keywords in your social media pages, it doesn’t mean that you should do it all the time. In fact, you shouldn’t overdo it. You have to keep your keywords at a minimum. You should only insert your keywords where it is

My Scam Fiancé Part 2 “The Bait”

By Anna Corsaro & Daniel Djouder Page 43 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

WARNING <All the pictures portray a real American serviceman during the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), which was a NATOled security mission in Afghanistan. His last name is Jones. His children and he are to be considered victim of the scam too. If you know him, please contact me. If we could manage to track down the scammer and led the authorities to him it would be an amazing result and teamwork.> “One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.” ― Shannon L. Alder Finally, my "romance" was about to begin and like a flood it overwhelmed me. A ray of sunshine in life with the prospect of a bright future full of love. All of us have experienced that feeling at least once. It is the same feeling romance scam victims experience at the beginning of these atypical, but exciting love stories. I have to admit that if it were not a scam, the man I had met on the web could have well been my soulmate!

According to Plan "My Scam Fiancé" Profile: Name: Sgt Leonardo Jones. 52 years old, widower with two young children. Nationality: US-UK. Resident in Rockester- Kent- UK. Currently and for at least one more year living at Bagram Military Base – Kabul – Afghanistan.

The Bait and the Manipulation The relationship between the scammer and their victim resembles a normal Page 44 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

relationship at the beginning. The difference here is the transformation of the woman, which is suggested and guided by the scammer with a sequence of planned operations. Nothing is left to chance, every move has a clearly defined purpose. The only goal is to extort the largest possible amount of money from their prey. One step at a time, the woman is pushed to focus to what she makes her feel intimately frustrated. The lack of proper awareness and self-confidence leads her to hand over her weaknesses to the scammer. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

a scam or if you think that the man with whom you have a relationship is a scammer, don't hesitate to contact me.

Instructions - His messages are in Italics. I highlighted in red the most manipulative parts. - My comments are between brackets. - Immediately after my comments there are the victim sections which begin with "I victim" and that will outline what a victim would have really thought, if she assumed to be dealing with an honest man and not a scammer.

His First Private Email “Good Morning Anna,

Leonardo Jones is a romance scam professional. He would succeed with an insecure woman or with a romantic woman. I exercised all my empathy to try to immerse myself in the victim mindset, to eventually try to zero in on what a scammer does to make a woman he never met to do everything he says. Try to do the same while you read. Admittedly, he is not that bad! When you have finished this article, try to read his first email without my comments, and look at his photos and let me know if he would have persuaded you or not. Be sincere, everything will remain confidential. Also, if you have fallen victim to Page 45 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

I hope this message finds you in the best of health as it is with me. Thank you very much for agreeing with my suggestion to communicate through our personal e-mail (I followed his suggestion, so he thinks I can be manipulated. If I had not agreed to follow him on a website or a private chat, I would have probably lost him! "I victim": I could not afford to lose such a charming man! After all, there is no difference in chatting privately or on a dating site). and thanks also for giving me the chance to know more about you. I'm very hopeful we are going to learn a lot from each other if we give this communication the chance to grow. I don't have problem at all with the distance between us (In the event that I were a woman who is frightened by the distance, he wants to Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

This time I won't miss the opportunity, this could be the right man. He is so fascinating and he wants me. I will be “bold” make me feel better right away saying that, even though we do not live in the same city, he is willing to do anything to overcome this problem. "I victim": in his profile he wrote that he lives in a small town 200 miles from mine. 200 miles aren't unsurmontable. ...But he has got a surprise!) now because it is said that distance is not for the fearful, it is for the bold… (He prepares me for the bad news that is coming, which could make me run away. Even if I had doubts in having a relationship with someone who does not live in my city, he reinforces the reasons for which I should rather accept. He use the feelings of shame and doubt. How could I tell him: "I do not believe in long distance relationships." He has already implied that if you are not willing to risk you are a coward. Page 46 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

"I victim”: maybe my cowardice prevented me to meet my soulmate so far? Maybe he lived in another city and I only looked at the profiles of the people near to me. This time I won't miss the opportunity, this could be the right man. He is so fascinating and he wants me. I will be “bold”.) It is for those who are willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for a little time with the one they love... It is for those knowing a good thing when they see it, even if they don’t see it nearly enough. I'm new to these Internet dating (Most scammers say to their victim that they had never used an Internet dating service before to reassure her that they did not know dozens of women like many men do online. The comparison with other women could frighten the victim. In short, what the scammer is trying to give his victim is the illusion of having captured a virgin man. Yes, just like that. He, being the PERFECT man, must have faults, but in a positive way. In this case it is his “Internet Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

He reiterates that he'll put his best efforts into this and he expects the victim to do the same,

dating virginity”, which he is keen to announce as a weakness, but he is well aware that for the woman it is good news. “I victim”: since he has no experience, whatever I do he will not judge me, because he has no terms of comparison. I may have a chance to have an incredible man. I hope that he really is. Certainly, he is handsome...) but I believe Internet dating is manageable depending on the kind of person you are communicating with and the level of seriousness you put into the communication. (The scammer pushes his prey to follow in his footsteps. If she would give him less information than he did, he has already announced that he would think she is not serious. “I victim”: if I don't want to lose him I have to be up to the challenge!)

I have read many success stories about people who have meet their soulmate on the Internet, so I'm hopeful am also going to meet my soulmate, that he also seeks his soulmate, not a casual relationship. (He gives confirmation “I victim”: he dreams of a love story for life just like me!) if I put much effort and seriousness Page 47 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

with you more about me. into my search. I think it's time to share body size & Brown eyes...I was born on 13-06-1964 (Gemini) to American mother, British father in UK. I'm level headed, realistic and optimist! I do not think to enter anything unless I think it's right and if I can give at least 100% to it.” (He reiterates that he'll put his best efforts into this and he expects the victim to do the same, if she wants to have the chance to be the woman of his life. “I victim”: wow! He is so serious about this. He really likes me!) I'm down to earth, caring, love, and loyal person with morals and virtues of my own, but rather open-minded, fairly easy going, witty, intelligent, and rather irreverent, sometimes ..... I'm quite humble and appreciate the little things in life Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

(Beautiful, intelligent. He could have all the women he wants, but he loves the little things in life. He is saying to his prey that he is a special man and looking for little things in a woman that make her special. He is not looking for Miss America. “I victim”: I can picture myself hugged to him dining by candlelight and drinking wine at sunset!) that people do to me and that I am capable of doing for others.Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to make someone feel special, loved, wanted and cared for the right woman I would have given my all. (The victim must be certain that he wants a serious relationship - a relationship for life. So, he says it again for the umpteenth time. If he finds the right woman, it will be for ever. In doing so the victim will be brought to become "the right woman" rather than risking to lose her soulmate. “I victim” while looking at his picture again: he is a handsome man, beautiful physique and that smile... and he really wants a serious relationship. It could be the man who I dreamed about for years!) I tend to not ask for much, circumstances have made me very independent and proud, therefore, are not too hard to please! (If ever the victim had any doubt that this man may be a weak one or one that seeks a mother for his children, he makes it clear to be independent and proud and not hard to please. “I victim”: I already feel at ease with this man. He makes me feel calm and protected.) Page 48 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

the value & everything I have.I'm a man who lives life as it comes to me. I do not worry about tomorrow because it will be here no matter what I do. The best days of my life are still yet to come when I meet a special woman. I can not afford to play mind games because it hurts me really a lot! (He knows that his prey must have suffered for love at least once in her life, but with him that will not happen because he is a romantic and he suffered too. That is why he is looking for a woman who wants a serious relationship.) Be through the worst pain in the report is not all that easy sharing with people simply because it hurts. I have to admit it, Leonardo is doing a pretty good job so far. I don't know about you, but he certainly caught my attention. Remember, when you read his message try to get in the same mood of someone who's looking for their significant other, we all know that feeling. Surprisingly, most of them are pretty conventional too, and surprisingly I did not land in my area since the time I was alone, maybe because I like to share, enjoy the people and continue to believe that there is someone out there that I should be sharing rest of my life.. (He continues to brainwash the victim. If she has not realized it yet that he is a scammer, once at this point she will be believing that he is serious and amazing.)I try to cherish every moment of whatever I do, wherever I am, that never is with Page 49 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

This is it for part 2. We just got things started and be warned, I told you Leonardo has a surprise for me. If you want to find out about it and much more I'll see you on part 3. If you think to be a victim of a scam romance, this link will be useful to know how to file a complaint: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ #&panel1-1 Keep reading about my investigation on next month's issue. Are you tired of the sore throats, the stuffed up noses, the coughs, the alternating chills and fever, and the sleepless nights that make you feel like death? What about those achy muscles? The lethargy? The listlessness? And what about the loss of productivity? And missing out on the big events of your life? This is flu season. It occurs every year in most parts of North America between October and March, with the peak season usually from December to February.

Lies, Lies and Statistics

Google “influenza statistics” and you’ll get an article in Wikipedia telling you that between 250,000 and 500,000 people die every year worldwide from the flu. This includes 36,000 deaths in the USA. In Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada says the flu kills between 4000 to 8000 people. However these numbers are CONTROVERSIAL because they are ESTIMATES. Estimates. That means that these are NOT actual numbers. They are numbers created

Do you expect to get the flu this year? I’m not joking. Do you expect to get a flu or a cold this year? Every year medical authorities warn you about the flu season. They implore you to get your flu shots. They talk about the dangers of getting the flu in the very young and the very old. Because you likely have young children or are in contact with the elderly, you, a healthy adult, still need to get the flu shot so that YOU don’t infect these other people. Or so the theory goes. There are plenty of statistics about the flu bug and its mortality rates every year.

through simulation programs! Death certificates are filled out with the ACTUAL cause of death and when you look closely at them, what you’ll find is that the ACTUAL number of deaths due to the flu is much EXAGGERATED. According to the U.S. National Vital Statistics System in 2010, annual flu deaths were just 500 per year.

Can the Flu Vaccine Make You More Susceptible to the Flu? This is far fewer than deaths from ulcers (2,977), hernias (1,832) and pregnancy and childbirth (825). This number is a far cry from the big killers such as heart disease (597,689) and cancers (574,743). The story is similar in Canada

Much Ado About Nothing Remember H1N1? The beginning of the flu season in 2008 – 2009 arrived with much fear mongering. People lined up for hours at flu clinics waiting for their shots. Governments all over the world stocked up on vaccine. In fact there were more doses of vaccine than there were people! They hoped for 100% compliance, but it was far less than that. I’d just spent three weeks in Sidney, Australia attending the World Masters Games with my Page 60 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

husband and his Men’s Soccer Team. It was October 2009 and spring down under. They’d already gone through the winter. They’re the bellwethers for the flu season. The Australians reported that the flu season NEVER reached the pandemic levels that were predicted. But most reports here insisted that there was a pandemic.

Can the Flu Vaccine Make You More Susceptible to the Flu? The H1N1 vaccine actually made people sicker. Reports coming out of Hong Kong and Canada indicated a link between the vaccine and an INCREASED risk of more serious illness. The claims were denied of course. But in 2012, researchers at the British Columbia Centre of Disease in Canada confirmed what those medical authorities observed. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

According to the Vancouver Sun: Researchers, led by Vancouver's Dr. Danuta Skowronski, an influenza expert at the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, noticed in the early weeks of the [2009 H1N1] pandemic that people who got a flu shot for the 2008-09 winter seemed to be more likely to get infected with the pandemic virus than people who hadn't received a flu shot. Five studies done in several provinces showed the same unsettling results." ABC News also reported on the findings of Professor Collignon from the Australian National University: Some interesting data has become available which suggests that if you get immunised with the seasonal vaccine, you get “less broad protection than if you get a natural infection,' he said. 'It is particularly relevant for children because it is a condition they call original antigenic sin, which basically means if you get infected with a natural virus, that gives you not only Page 61 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

protection against that virus but similar viruses or even in fact quite different flu viruses in the next year.' 'We may be perversely setting ourselves up that if something really new and nasty comes along, that people who have been vaccinated may in fact be more susceptible compared to getting this natural infection.'"

It’s Better to Get Sick What is contained in a flu vaccine is only an educated GUESS. Researchers pick maybe 2 or 3 flu viruses that look like they may have the highest contagious impact and they create the vaccine. If they guess wrong, people get sick. But you may still get sick, because it requires a couple of weeks for immunity to build up. There is a difference between building immunity with a vaccine and building it because you got sick. It used to be said that as you got older, you would actually have fewer colds and flus because you would’ve built up your immune system naturally. So it’s strange that over the years and decades, that you’re now told that the old are more susceptible to colds and flus.

I write so that you will think. Wouldn’t it better if you didn’t have to guess? Wouldn’t it be better if you could take care of yourself in such a way that colds and flus wouldn’t have to be a part of your life? In order to prevent anything, you have to know why something happens. So everyone in modern medicine says it’s the viruses. The problem with that theory is that it is inconsistent. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Have you ever noticed that when you get together with a group of people and compare symptoms, that there are always some with different ones? There may be similarities for sure. But there are differences. Then there are some of your friends who never get the cold or flu. And it’s not because they vaccinate. It’s because the bug isn’t to blame for the flu “epidemics” that occur every year.

Bugs Love or Hate the Environment You Create For Them In Chinese Medicine, we look for the reason why the body becomes weak. We also understand that when one part of you isn’t well, it can affect other parts. Nothing ever occurs in isolation. It’s not enough to kill the dreaded microbe, which is what vaccines do. A virus is being a virus and it’s dormant until conditions become ideal for it to thrive. This is taught in high school biology. Microbes love a warm, damp and dark place to grow: mucous. It’s not all bad. A certain amount of mucous is normal for Page 62 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

lubrication and protection. But the more mucous (Chinese Medicine calls it Damp and Phlegm) there is inside your body, the more ideal it becomes to wake up those viruses. And what is the natural response of the body? The result of the battle going on internally is the build up of debris and toxic material. Then the body tries to eliminate all of this guck through the orifices or openings of the body, namely your nose, your throat, your mouth, your large intestine, your urinary track, etc. That’s the real reason why you get colds Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

you’ve created in your body that makes viruses flourish while you suffer. Let’s become a lot less hospitable to these critters!

You Have Control Eliminate Toxic Thoughts. Cultivate Healthy Ones. The only things that you have control over are your own thoughts, feelings, decisions, actions and the results you get. This applies for everything including and especially your wellbeing. Disease always happens when you’re afraid of it. Don’t talk about the flu season. Don’t get immersed in it. You’ll get the flu as soon as you believe it’ll happen. Don’t be among all the people who become hypochondriacs on an annual basis.

or flus. Your body is cleaning itself from the inside out. You’re going through a detoxification process. And while it’s happening you can feel worse, which is the feeling of death that so many people get. If you’ve ever gone through a voluntary detoxification, getting sick during a detox may also happen and for the same reasons. So it’s not the germ. The germ is just being a germ. When there’s tons of food, all organisms on this planet will take advantage. It’s the internal environment that Page 63 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Listening and heeding bad news only creates more stress for you and stress is always an internal issue. It’s the sum total of the toxic thoughts and feelings that you adopt. Here’s some Chinese Medical anatomy. The Lungs are affected by most of the emotions: sadness, grief, anger, worry, etc. We know that everyone is born with both strengths and weaknesses. But we don’t know what they all are until we’re faced with crises which always create strong emotional reactions. Ever notice how confused you feel while you have the cold or flu? That’s because your physical condition reflects the mental/ emotional one. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

This is true cause and effect. So do something positive and constructive about the things that bother you. Don’t let them fester. Are You Acidic? The body is largely made up of water that transports nutrients, oxygen, hormones and other biochemicals. These are transported all over the body. The potential hydrogen, or pH, is a graduated scale that measures either acid or alkaline (basic) properties. A pH of 1.0 to 6.9 is considered acidic. A pH of 7.0 is neutral. A pH of 7.1 to 14.0 is alkaline. The lower the pH number, the greater the acidity, and the higher the pH number, the greater the alkalinity. The pH factor in the blood stream of a healthy person is just slightly alkaline. You want to maintain the slightly basic pH as much as you can, because a lower pH or a higher pH, over time will adversely affect your health. The body tries to make adjustments but it can only do so much if you don’t make changes.

How do you become acidic and therefore create abundant mucous? The factors include:

You can do this by eating a diet that is 75% alkaline-forming foods and 25% acidforming foods. This is the right combination for constant energy production.

So, eliminate these acid-causing foods:

Page 64 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

    

  

A poor diet high in processed foods Pollution Exposure to chemicals Pharmaceuticals Toxic thought patterns

And do these things:  Greatly reduce or eliminate bovine  

 

(cow) dairy products. Greatly reduce processed foods (it’s the chemicals!). Reduce protein (animal or vegetable) intake to 4 – 6 oz daily for men and 2 – 5 oz daily for women. Keep nuts to a small handful a couple a times a week. Greatly reduce or eliminate alcohol consumption.

Greatly reduce grains (except millet). The following foods produce an alkaline environment in your body, thus also keeping Dampness or Phlegm to a healthy level: All vegetables, including sea vegetables  All fruits  Millet (only alkaline grain) All sprouts 

Here’s how to eat them: Eat 5 to 8 servings per day of fresh vegetables, lightly cooked, steamed for instance, with just a few ounces of meat every day (if you eat meat). Eat organic as much as you can to eliminate more chemicals from the diet. 

Emotional and diet changes will support your immune system – it won’t have to battle internal pathogens all day long which creates stress which has a cost every day of your life. Make a decision to be well TODAY! Page 65 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

It’s deeply foreboding feeling knowing that world global stability and security are rapidly devolving. Even before the uncanny election of Donald Trump and his unpredictability as the presumed PresidentElect, world leaders were already concerned about increased isolationism, a tipping of the economic scale from the West to the East, innumerably proxy wars, nuclear proliferation, and even the outbreak of another war, ostensibly a Third World War. Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin’s tsarist extremist and expansionist policy, fueled by his highly effective propaganda machine, the ability to use espionage, cyberwarfare, military force and diplomacy has undermined global security. Russia has and is playing an instrumental role in influencing elections both in the United States (U.S.) and the European Union (EU), while deflecting Page 86 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

attention away from other significant crises and proxy wars, beyond Ukraine and Syria to the Baltic, Balkans and Eastern European Union regions, as well as in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region and the South China Sea. Concurrently, China has effectively used its financial prowess to expand beyond well beyond Asia, into MENA region and the EU, resulting in reliance upon and possibly allegiance to China. Simultaneously, China has been fortifying its military. The rationale is that the more unstable the world, the easier it is for Russia and China Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Russia then uses its propaganda machine to feed fears of Islam and fuel the momentum in many countries to follow Great Britain’s lead in exiting EU. Russia is backing pro-Putin political candidates seeking to gain power in Germany, France, and Poland. ProPutin leaders are already in power in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey, and Serbia.

to achieve their interdependent objectives. “Europe and Asia are competing with one another,” opined Ambassador Lamberto Zannier, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). This has created a potentially volatile and highly insecure world when the reality is, as stated by Mr. Zannier, that "Security is inexplicable linked to peace." Uncertainty and Unrest in the Europe In Europe, democratic leadership is being threatened by Russia. Russia has been instrumental in keeping refugees flowing into Europe. Moldova is Russia’s latest conquest. On November 14th it was announced that Moldova’s first national presidential election had been won by pro-Russian supporter Igor Dodon. His opponent, Maia Sandu ran as a pro-EU candidate. Moldova, a former Soviet republic, following 1992 Russian military action experienced a breakaway region - TransDniester – which is now considered a demilitarized zone governed by Moldova, Russia and Transnistria. This, according to Mr. Zannier is a frozen conflict, i.e. a situation in which active armed conflict has ceased without a peace treaty or formal resolution. Trans-Dniester conveniently abuts Ukraine, which has suffered Russian aggressions beyond the illegal annexation of Crimea. On November 13th France's far-right leader Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Marine Le Pen, who is expected to run against French President François Hollande in May 2017, made the aberrant comment that ‘there was no reason for Europe to be scared of Russian President Vladimir Putin’, when experts, such as Anne Applebaum, have repeated stated that Mr. Putin is working to destabilize Europe which is facilitated when there is a lack of unity. Ms. Le Pen called the U.S. election a victory against the elite. She supports Brexit, believing that all EU members should be allowed the choice to exit or reconfirm their EU commitment. France’s far-right is known to have ties to the Kremlin. Significantly, in Germany, one, if not the strongest, EU leader, Chancellor Angela Merkel’s re-election in 2017 has already been threatened by pro-Putin fringe group the Alternative for Deutschland (AfD). Presently, the AfD had gained representation in ten of the 16 German state parliaments winning several elections this fall against Ms. Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union party. Germany is especially important to Mr. Putin both Page 88 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Germany is a neighbor to countries between its borders and Russia that are largely sympathetic to Mr. Putin. In Turkey, a key regional nation and a NATO member, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is disenfranchised once again by the EU, and by exclusion from ongoing American supported military action to retake Mosul, Iraq from ISIS and the similar plans to liberate Raqqa, Syria. Given the atrocities, including human rights violations and suppression of a free press, following the failed coup against Mr. Erdoğan, Turkey will be unable for many years, if at all, to show adherence to Rule of Law; a precursoro acceding to the EU. The OSCE is responsible for monitoring the border between Russia and Ukraine, with both U.S. and Russian monitors providing daily reports. warmed up to the Kremlin. On November 2nd Mr. Zannier acknowledged that there is a, “Disease between Russia and Europe.” Mr. Zannier confirmed that conflict is appearing in the middle of Europe where the politics are extremely divided. Mr. Zannier cautioned that the "Divisions among key players are creating an accumulation of challenges.” The OSCE is the world’s largest intelligence agency comprised of 57 participating states in North America, Europe and Asia, including Russia. Steven Pifer, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, Director of its Arms Control Initiative, and former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, concurred, stating that, "I would have to say that, without question, this is the low point in U.S.-Russian relations since the end of the Cold War."

The Potential Impact of a Trump Administration Even before the American presidential election, leaders and political analysts were already on edge. Brexit being a major cause for concern. justice, security and adherence Rule of Law - the core precepts of democracy – and pursue a foreign policy based on isolationism. Patrick Stewart, Senior Fellow and Director, Program on International Institutions and Global Governance, had this to say: “Among its many implications, Donald Trump’s election as president calls into question the open liberal international order this country has championed and defended for more than seven decades. The edges of that order were already fraying, thanks to disenchantment with the global economy and the return of geopolitical competition, particularly with Russia and China. Trump’s triumph will accelerate its disintegration, by undermining the network of rules, institutions, and alliances that twelve presidents, Republican and Democratic alike, have nurtured since 1945. The results of the election suggest that the main threats to the liberal world order are no longer foreign but domestic.” This would certainly be the case if a Trump presidency and a Republican Congress opted out of NATO. Mr. Trump is Page 90 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

correct in stating that the U.S. is only one of five member nations that is current on NATO dues as acknowledged by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, “The United States currently accounts for almost 70% of NATO defence spending, and has rightly called for a more equitable sharing of the burden. ”However, Mr. Stoltenberg correctly pointed out that, “On both sides of the Atlantic leaders have always understood that a stronger, safer and more prosperous Europe means a stronger, safer and more prosperous United States. upon “soft power” to pave the diplomatic path. "Soft power" is a method by which a country amasses influence without coercion or direct payment. Soft power includes everything from providing disaster relief, developmental aid and the promotion of democratic values. The purpose of dedicated payments is to increase goodwill. "Under Donald Trump ... I would be very concerned about the importance of soft power. It does affect our national security, and it’s a challenge even under ideal circumstances," stated Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

This partnership between Europe and the United States, embodied in the NATO alliance, remains essential for both.” International support for Trump has come from those politicians or countries who favor the dismantling of institutions, such as NATO and the EU, and China or who have significant ties to China, Russia or both. Globally many countries have entered into financial agreements with China or its Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

In the Philippines newly elected President Rodrigo Duterte has been like the shifting sands. Mr. Duterte was elected shortly after the Philippines won a protracted legal battle in the Permanent Court of Arbitration against China over rights to the oilrich South China Sea. After his election, the U.S., along with other nations and human rights groups, criticized Mr. Duterte extra-judicial killings of alleged drug lords. His actions prompted the U.S. to halt sales of assault rifles to the Philippines. Now, Mr. Duterte is vacillating between allegiance to the U.S., a longstanding ally, and China. If the Philippines ultimately sides with China, it would potentially making freedom of navigation in and through the South China Sea more difficult and potentially more dangerous for other countries. Afghanistan, after thirteen years of concerted effort by NATO and the U.S. to create a self-sufficient democratic government free of the Taliban, has been impacted by Russia’s support of the Taliban and is engaging in commercial activity with China, which will ultimately make it less depend on Western aid packages. Pakistan, another critical country, is also doing business with China. The corrupt Pakistani military is engaging in joint military operations with Russia. China’s interest in the region is securing the path critical to its $46 billion “One Belt, One Road” trade route, known as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). CPEC is intended to expand China’s Asian economic and political outreach to Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Iran, among others, as well as providing it with access to a sea route for trade. In Pakistan, CPEC runs from Pakistan’s Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea to China’s landlocked Xinjiang Province. In Afghanistan, the Sino-Afghan Special Railway Transportation, part of CPEC, connects China to Afghanistan. For Afghanistan it is a route by which it may sell its copper. The list simply goes on.

China and Russia, along with the United States, the United Kingdom and France, are the permanent five (P5) UNSC members and have veto power, which Russia and China have misused over and over again. For many years, there has been a push to amend the United Nations Charter as it relates to the UNSC. The current lack of faith and mistrust in international organizations is also being experienced by the International Criminal Court, from which Burundi, Gambia and South Africa’s have withdrawn. It is expected that other African nations will follow suit as their governments feel that African nations have been unjustly singled out by the ICC. While the ICC has begun the prosecutorial process in two cases involving Russian aggressions, enforcement of any finding of guilt is the responsibility of the state involved or at the discretion of the UNSC, effectually rendering any finding of guilt not worth the paper it’s printed on.

Going it alone is not an option, either for Europe or for the United States.”

First I will take a step back and familiarize with Google+. It is a social networking service owned and operated by Google Inc. It is the second-largest social networking site in the world after Facebook, having surpassed Twitter in January 2013. The statistics for Google+ are staggering; - 2.2 billion Google Plus profiles online 60% of users log in daily The Google +1 button is used 5 billion After being on the internet since 1994 and in technology since 1985, I am still learning as fast as I did in those early years and with the addition of social media this has created a maelstrom for the average business owner. They fall out of the sky at the speed of byte - I mean light - from Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and of course Google+ leading the pack. And

after dealing with thousands of clients around the world it became apparent that the majority of them were still avoiding Google+ so I wanted to make sure you understood why it may be hurting your business,

times per day So why does Google+ have so many followers, yet so many businesses are failing to use it properly if at all? The simple answer is two-fold; It’s too technical A lot of people think it’s another Facebook You can tell many people thing it’s too technical because 62% users are male and 38% are female - the first social media platform with a big variance. The thing is it’s not more technical than Facebook, it just hasn’t become a habit. However it’s not as pretty or easy to follow a thread and read your dashboard as Facebook is - so this is more likely the reason.

more than ignoring any other platform. Page 98 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

A lot of people think it’s another Facebook, but it’s very different, and in most cases far more important for the average use, especially if your target market isn’t sitting on Facebook.

In order to understand the significant differences between Google+ and Facebook, I’m going to highlight a couple of features and then tell you the BIG WHY you need to be using Google+.

Two cool things about Google+ 1. Circles - is unique and simple; rather than adding friends into one community base or following list, you can segment your contacts by adding them into what are called circles. You can label your circles as anything you wish, such as business associates, family, associates, etc.. You can also have as many circles without limits. The best thing about your circles is that they are kept private, so that even when you add someone to your circle, they only see that you've added them as a connection, not what circle you added them into making it Page 99 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

irrelevant to be concerned if you will upset someone for not being part of, say your inner circle.

2. Google Hangouts - which offers live, multi-person video chat between Google+ users. You can set your status as available or offline, and when you’re active, people from within your circles are able to connect with you via video live feed. In fact, you can have as many people within a video channel as you wish – absolutely free! But here’s the BIG WHY you must be doing google+, even before your Facebook, Twitter, or Linkedin. It is the only social media platform that gets indexed on Google. That means it has super, fast, powerful search engine optimized way to get into the google search engines. Nothing you do will ever hit it as fast. It’s Search engine optimization nirvana. This one action alone can change the game for you being found online. Consistent, keyword-based Google+ posts can keep you on page one more than any other SEO organic practice. So I would take a look at your social media strategy, and make sure you integrate Google+ into it. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

I offer that Women Power Brokers must have these ten important traits: 1. Self-Confidence 2. Courage of her convictions/integrity 3. Highly developed listening skills 4. Ego-strength 5. Energy 6. Sense of Humor 7. Stress-Tolerance 8. People Skills 9. Know the Rules of Engagement 10.Honor her own ambition Confidence in myself has helped me learn that my opinion is not only welcomed, but also valued, allowing me to become the Woman Power Broker I am today.

You must have the courage of your convictions. There are definite commonly espoused traits of women power brokers. And, it is my hope that women who will read this information will purpose in their hearts to gain the confidence needed to know first and foremost who you are and to be confident in that fact. God created you as you ARE, with all the gifts and talents within your spirit being. You matter, you are valuable and you received all the value when God placed you on this universe for a purpose. Your job is to walk in the inner knowing that you have a purpose and God has a plan for your life. Page 105 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Realizing that speaking and having a voice is accepting with courage your convictions. The challenge is that there are still too few women at the senior level within the work place, and often the few of us are expected to be the voice of many. Oftentimes, people tend to ask the one female leader what women will think as if the female leader is the voice for all women. As a female leader, I am often asked for the “female perspective,” and while I am happy to share my perspective, not all women share one perspective. Acting as though there is one female perspective unfairly limits the valid Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

perspectives of all women, including limiting your contribution to leadership.

You are what you value and your values are who you are as a person. Are you straight up, when it comes to dealing with people? Can you put your foot down, or are you a walkover? To be successful you need to be assertive and not aggressive. Are you a woman of integrity and have the ability to stand up for what is the “right” thing to do?

Listening is an asset Being able to listen to and understand the feelings of others is frankly “empathy.” We are all human, with frailties, fears, and weaknesses, as well as opinions that deserve airing. Sure, people have problems, and worries, and those must be addressed and acknowledged, and treated with tenderness. But where the successful woman power broker probably makes her mark is being understanding, without allowing sentimentality to throw everything off course.

Ego-strength is vital and many women power brokers acknowledge that this is one of the first assets a woman leader must Page 106 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

have. This does not translate into a “big head that you can’t get through the office – entrance way. Instead, it is having confidence in your ability to overcome challenges. You must know your strengths, and

there is nothing arrogant about knowing your strengths and displaying them!

Energy is

the fuel that you need for success! I am often told that I have so much energy and people tend to ask me, “Where does your energy come from?” I firmly believe that in order to bring the required enthusiasm and team-inspiring vitality to the office, I know I must “fill my tank” good Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

finding solutions that work and focusing on that which is important to get me to the next level! But also, I encourage woman power brokers to do some deep soulsearching to find out what really tips you over the edge. In some cases, it can be technology failure – the Internet is down and the phones are ringing off the hook. So what I find is my best self-defense is Self-Awareness. Know who you are and do not fall into the negative stereotypes about women in leadership --- women power brokers.

Stress-tolerance is a part of life and at times I feel more resilient. But I confess, with new projects and programs on the horizon, my stress tolerance has been rocky lately, so even I have to work on this. It’s about

I know who I am, and where I want to be. These words reflect an ancient commandment that was carved over the entrance to the Delphic oracle of Apollo, the mythological Greek god of the sun, prophecy, music, medicine, and poetry. This message – Know Thyself – remains true today. Today’s leaders should seek self-knowledge to enhance their leadership skills that lead to excellence. Knowing thyself is the most difficult task many of us face. But until you truly know yourself, your strengths, and your weaknesses; know what you want to do, and why you want to do it, you cannot succeed in anyway but in the most superficial sense of the word. relationship skills and to LEARN the 10 habits of highly successful women power brokers. Few are willing to pay the price for true understanding and wisdom to become the exemplary power broker, but you can! But, first let define power broker. What is a power broker? Power is fast becoming a woman's game. In times past, moneyed men on golf courses and in oak-paneled boardrooms exercised power. (How dated is that?) Harold W. Johnson II, partner of Cober, Johnson & Romney, PLLC, has successfully navigated the currents of Washington D.C. with his reputation as a skilled and honorable negotiator intact after more than two decade defines a power broker as “a person or group having the ability to influence important decisions.”

Seek then to discover your credo, your competence and an uncompromising commitment to excellence. This means you will no longer accept mediocrity. You are designed to be the best. To go forward, you must be truthful in assessing where you have been and where you want to go. In the words of Shakespeare, the wisest thing we can do is “to THINE own self be true.”

important characteristic of leadership. Just being “in charge” does not make you either an effective leader or a person of influence. In my new business venture, I’ve learned a great deal from a business colleague about the skill sets that a true powerbroker possesses.” These days, true clout can be measured by who you know and, more important, what you do with those contacts. However, Johnson regularly capitalized on the fact that funding goes to the person with the plans right now as opposed to a vague vision for tomorrow. It is clear that there are many important elements that need to come together.

Accordingly, listed below are the 4 C’s of being a true power broker, whether male or female. My advice along with Johnson’s is to devote yourself to mastering your craft through education and experience. Every position, whether paid or unpaid, is an opportunity for your professional growth and development.

The 4 C’s Communication:

Listening is one of the most underrated skill sets that people possess. Brilliant communicators understand that listening to others is an opportunity to receive important information on what people’s needs are. Once you have identified what people need, you are in a unique position to add value and create win/win opportunities for both sides. I have learned this since becoming a Radio Talk Show Host. It is vitally important to listen to others and to be genuinely interested in them. It’s not about you, it’s about OTHERS.

Contacts:

Solid relationships are the

foundation of any skilled power broker with respect and integrity as it building blocks. How you treat people, poor and rich alike will always come to light. Do you return calls and emails and ignore them because you do not value the person at that time? “Position” is a fluid concept. A person that is a mailroom clerk today can be a Hollywood Executive tomorrow. People have a long memory for bad attitudes and behavior. Also, no person is an island. Some people call it ‘playing the game,” but true power brokers understand the value of being in connection and being of service to others, which is one of my core values. Charisma:

Leaders all have an aura

about them that make people gravitate towards them. Whether its President Obama, Sheila Johnson, or Beyoncé – it does not matter. They all have passion and conviction about the subject that they have devoted heir lives to. Charisma equals enthusiasm, confidence and dedication – and you will need a healthy dose of charisma to be an influencer.

Character:

So many of the meetings that I attended in my 20 years of corporate career undeniably cross my mind when I discuss the topic of filtering out time wasters. Years ago when I started managing projects, meetings quickly became a major part of my day. Each invitation to a meeting was the validation that I had been waiting for, that I was a valuable member of the team. I got to rub shoulders with clients and senior managers. I was moving up. I was the first to know the latest and the greatest. I enjoyed being a part of the decision making process, speaking up as the go-to person that other attendees wanted to hear from, and learning to anticipate potential issues for future meetings. I figured this was how the best managers made a living – hours of meetings each day, then returning phone calls and replying to emails that arrived during the meetings, finishing other projectrelated tasks, and going home at midnight or later. Some of the meetings were productive. Many more were an absolute waste of my Page 122 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

time. Pretty soon these meetings became unbearably torturous and I could not stand them. I started refusing to attend meetings so I could get some work done and go home at a decent time. But I could not refuse all of them. I ended up sitting through many of these time wasters. Just to think that I let my beautiful youth pass by while sitting in conference rooms and watching some of the attendees feeling proud of their own voices while others played Sudoku on their phones‌.

Those meetings did not deserve my time. In simplifying your meetings, start with this bigger picture: Do you know Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

In your attempts to maximize your productivity throughout the day, do you ever take breaks to slow down a bit and come up for air? I certainly hope so. This is a vital component in filtering out your time wasters. But what fills up these breaks? Are they productive breaks that truly rest your mind and body for your superhuman performance? Or are you just filling these breaks with more noise and useless complications, also known as time wasters? Meetings become time wasters because they can quickly fill up with routines that waste our energy and empowerment. Gossip, overeating, efforts without a clear goal, worrying about things that you can’t control, insufficient or insincere communication, and useless activities on electronic devices. Such dynamics can completely rob your productivity and passion for fulfillment.

In your attempts to maximize your productivity throughout the day, do you ever take breaks to slow down a bit and come up for air? what deserves your time? How is your relationship with time? Is it strained because there is never enough of it? Is the passing of time hopeful and forgiving? How you spend your time is how you spend your life. Reflect on what it really means to you to have time. Time is the most precious commodity that life offers completely equally to every human being. There is same amount of time for everyone each day, no exceptions. In order to achieve and manage burnouts and life-work balance while accomplishing high and lofty personal and professional goals, you must use your time wisely. Make the most of your time. Do not waste it. Page 123 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

So, let’s throw out the distractor factors. Focus on the present moment. Protect your energy in your interactions with other attendees of your meetings. Hashing and re-hashing the same conversation without making a decision, meandering discussions that lead to no conclusions, then more meetings about meetings... crazy! If Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Connect the dots between all aspects of your life this pattern is in your life, it’s affecting your life-work balance negatively. Dejunk and simplify. Here are some things that I recommend for creating productive meetings. A. Have a clear objective of the meeting that applies to everyone in attendance. Let them know why they are invited. It is downright shocking how many people attend meetings without knowing why they are there. So they just turn to their smart phone and start playing games. This is unacceptable. Encourage everyone’s participation to reach the objective. B. Create an agenda for the meeting and attach to the meeting invite. The goal here is to help the invitees see the agenda before the meeting, but this does not always happen. Have one master copy of the agenda at the meeting so that every

Page 124 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

one can see what is coming up next in the discussion. If anyone blames lack of time for not reading your email, have them review their time wasters. C. Establish a time limit for the entire meeting and each agenda item. Make an announcement at the beginning of the meeting regarding the importance of this time limit. Request undivided attention to move the discussions along efficiently. D. Make decisions! Focus on tangible goals to accomplish before the meeting is scheduled to end. Avoid having to plan for another meeting, if at all possible. Proceed with a decision you can make in the meeting now. E. Do not eat carbohydrates during meetings. Make it a rule to never bring donuts, . Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

bagels, or juice to morning meetings. Some members of your team may resist at first, but deep down inside everyone knows that they will be better without it. They’ll thank you later. This can be your first step to transforming your workplace culture for better productivity. Always have the goal to make your team’s environment to be conducive to efficiency. F. Effective emails can be more useful than meetings. The email thread also serves as meeting notes. Encourage input and participation without flooding the receivers’ inboxes. Recommendation for Filtering Out Your Time Wasters Simplifying your meetings involves transforming your habits and relationships. It will require tremendous support to help you reach your goal. I’m Laura Faye from Laura Faye for Attorneys, a top marketing company for attorneys on Long Island . Sitting with me is one of Long Islands top matrimonial attorneys Jerome A Scharoff . Mr.Scharoff has been practicing matrimonial law for almost 2 decades. He has been named a SuperLawyer by Thomson Reuters for consecutive years. This places him in the top 5% of attorneys in the New York Metro area. Good Afternoon Mr.Scharoff, thank you for your time this afternoon. My pleasure Laura. I would like to learn more about the ins and outs of divorce from your perspective by asking you a few questions.

Are you saying infidelity is not a factor in the Courts decision decision? ?

Sure, I am happy to answer them for you. Thank you. What would you say some of the most common reasons are for divorce? I would say people just generally aren't happy. They're not happy with themselves. They're not happy with their spouse. There can be a whole range of reasons. It can be financial. It can be that they've met other people. Just a general unhappiness with the way their life is going. What percentage of divorces are caused by infidelity?

I never keep exact percentages because it really doesn't matter to me what the reason is. What's important to me taking children out of the equation is finding out what the assets, liabilities, and financial pictures are. The exact reason for the divorce, while a lot of people might think that's a big issue, the courts, at least in New York State don't normally attribute fault to one side or the other unless you have what's called egregious fault, something that shocks the conscience. But if it's just an affair, if it's one person wasn't nice to the other person, it really doesn't matter what the cause is, although I realize it's therapeutic for the client to explain why.

Page 130 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Or if it relates to custody matters, and you're not home because you're always out with the other person, that can be a factor. But if all other home because you're always out with the other person, that can be a factor. But if all other things are equal and you just met somebody else, look, it might not play great for the judge, but they really don't care. They just want to move the case along. They have tremendous dockets and tons of cases and not enough resources and they want to clear their calendar. So the court doesn't have the wherewithal to get caught up in he said she said. Is that consistent in across the states?

I think it’s equally important for the other side to hear why as well because it gives a better understanding as to the reasons why we're sitting at a table or in a courtroom. Are you saying infidelity is not a factor in the courts decision? That's correct. The courts aren't going to care about that. What they might care about is how money is being spent, if there's what's called marital waste perhaps due to an infidelity. Let's say you're going out of town with your girlfriend , boyfriend or significant other, and you're wasting marital funds, that might be something. Page 131 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

That I don't know. I'm only licensed in New York. Is it harder to settle cases involving infidelity due to anger therefore causing them to go to trial? It depends on what stage in the process people come to me. Generally when there's a lot of anger whether it's for infidelity, financial reasons, or one party doesn't want to divorce those cases always become more difficult to settle because the litigant is thinking emotionally and not like a business person. You need to look at it like I said, if Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

you take the children out of the equation, you're talking about a corporate dissolution. What are your assets? What are your liabilities? What's the financial picture? How are they being divided up? If you're going to work off of emotion and principle, that gets to be very expensive and very costly. It’'s not productive to anyone. You may find some attorneys who feed into that and work that way. While those methods can make them a lot of money it does not benefit the client. That’s not the way I do business. I try to ground my clients, because at the end of the day, they're not going to get any more because they're angry. In fact, they're going to get less because it's going to go to the lawyers. This is clearly a highly emotional, lifechanging experience. How do you ground clients who are filled with anger whose choices are fueled by it, and make decisions that are going to hurt them not help them? How do you get through to them? It can be a long ,trying and draining process. You need the client to trust you. They're hiring you for your judgement and your expertise. You have to be able to tell them that by being straight and transparent. If somebody comes in and says, for example, "I'm looking for 90% of our marital assets," generally Page 132 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

I have to tell them they're not going to get that. There are always exceptions to everything, but they're not going to get that. You have to be straight with them, manage expectations, and explain that you don't want to remodel your own house on their case, because then there's going to be less money for them. It's a long process. You try to be understanding, sit with them and work with them. At some point, you need to gently tell them and sometimes sternly that they need to look at the entire picture. You need to look at the forest and not the individual issues. That makes sense. Is the best piece of advice you can offer somebody who is Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

getting divorced to remove the emotions and treat it as a business decision? 100%. Children are a different story. That's the only caveat, children. You can't put a price on custody issues. Let's talk about custody issues. There is definitely a stigma that a mother is naturally awarded custody and that the courts are against fathers. How difficult is it for a father to get custody of his children? In the State of New York, there is no bias. There's no automatic law that mothers have superior rights. Everyone's on a level Page 133 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

playing field. I always tell my clients, you're dealing with judges that have real-life experience and bias. And what one judge might do, another judge might do something different. Neither one is right, and neither one is wrong. But there is not a bias. There's not a legal principle that says women have superior rights for custody over men. In your experience, what has a fathers success rate been being awarded custody?

I can't give you a percentage, I do think there's a trend though where courts are more open to 50-50 time where I think years ago they were not. There's definitely a trend towards there being more equalized time, not just what I'll call a cookiecutter schedule such as every other weekend and one or two dinners during the week. If there's an abuse issue and one spouse has an order of protection against the other , and they have children who were never abused and there are no allegations, how is that handled? Well, it obviously depends which person you are representing. If you're representing the wife who has the order of protection in favor of her, you're obviously concerned about her well-being, and how he would react to the kids. If you're representing the father or the husband, you're going to say, "He's never done anything to the kids." I think ultimately Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

what would happen is an attorney for the children would be appointed. Those are lawyers for the kids. Welcome to America where even kids get lawyers. Their obligation and job is to parrot back to the court what the children want. Obviously, the older the child, the more weight that child's opinion is given. A 4 year old saying something is not going to have the same weight as a 16 year old saying it. If the children haven't been abused by this person, then certainly that would be imparted to the judge. Again, it goes back to one of my earlier statements. Each judge might do something different, and that's what makes in my opinion a lawyer's job difficult because clients want certainty. They're nervous and unsure. It's a very turbulent time in their life. They don't know what to expect. They've never been in the legal system. They're coming to us for guidance, advice and for some type of certainty. It's very hard to guarantee something because again, you just don't know what a judge might do.

I always tell my clients that of it, Well, principle gets ve

Do you have a choice in which judge will be on the case? No. Can you change the judge? No, although you can always make an application to say the judge is biased Page 134 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

and has a conflict, but there's an old adage that if you're going to stab the king, you better kill him, and the chances of getting a judge removed just because you're getting bad decisions are very, very slim. You need to have a legitimate reason and a legitimate conflict, not just that you're getting decisions you don't like. You're not able to judge shop. When trying a case, the results you bring can cause life changing circumstances. As I know from my own experience, you only have so much control over that. I would vouch to say that many think you are a magician, and you have all of the control. What message would you like to convey on your behalf? Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

expensive , do they point the finger at you as the one to blame after you told them the potential consequences in advance? Sure they do. This is after you already warned them? Yes How do you handle that?

t say it's the principle ery expensive.” Listen to your lawyer, that's why you hired us. Be reasonable, fair, practical, and cost effective. Don't spend a $1,000 on legal fees to fight over a $500 glass. It doesn't make sense. The more unreasonable you're going to be, the more money you're going to spend on legal fees. Have you had clients that fought just for principal, and hurt themselves tremendously financially? Yes. I always tell my clients that say it's the principle of it, ”Well, principle gets very expensive.” When that happens and it becomes Page 135 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Sometimes there is a legitimate breakdown in the attorney-client relationship and there needs to be a parting of the ways where they then need to seek other counsel. I've been on both ends of this where another attorney has replaced me and the client gets the same deal that I had on the table, if not worse. Sometimes someone will come to me and I'll get them the same deal that was already presented to them. Some people need to hear it from a second or third source because they're just not accepting of it. In a world where we have same sex marriages and adoption, when that marriage ends, and there's a custody battle, having two same sex parents, how does that play out? It's a very cutting edge issue. There's been a lot of recent case law coming down on that topic. The law typically lags behind current trends and this is an example of that. I know each case is unique in its own way and that there may not be a consistent Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

average, but what’s a ballpark figure for an average divorce? It can cost you $5,000 or it can cost you $100,000. I know that's not a very specific answer, but you truly don't know. It depends on the assets that have to be valued, what type of financial discovery there has to be, how reasonable the parties and the attorneys are going to be, and the court itself. What is the longest and most expensive case you ever had? I’ve had some cases going on six years. The cost, I don't know off hand.

They delay things? Yes. Why do you think that is? The courts are the most inefficient business model around. If anybody ran a business the way the courts run their own business they'd be out of business. I think they're overworked. There's not enough judges. The dockets are too big. They're handling too many cases and they can't handle it. It's not the judge's fault, it's the system's fault. Which emotions have you seen run the highest and most intense throughout the divorce process?

Six years for a divorce? Yes Was that the fault of the clients or the courts?

Many. First there may be shock and hurt. Then that hurt can turn to anger. There can also be fear. Disappointment?

I'll say more the courts. Page 137 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

There can be disappointment. There can be unreasonableness, unrealistic expectations. Very rarely will people walk out very, very happy because usually there's not enough money to go around for one family when they have two people together. Now you're trying to split that pie in half. I once heard somebody say that when both parties are unhappy with the outcome, that means it was a fair divorce. Would you say that's true?

Attorney Jerome A Scharoff

Yes, people like to say that. Everyone throws that term around. If everyone's unhappy that means it's a good settlement. I think that goes back to having realistic expectations. Attorneys can't fix marital problems, they can only try to help untangle them. If money's an issue, they're not going to all of a sudden make money appear. For example, if you have a mortgaged house that's worth a million dollars and has debt of a million dollars, then it's very difficult for anyone to walk away happy.

possibility to visit Vincenzo Scilanga and his winery and learn more about his Gaglioppo wines. Cote di Franze means more or less the ’plain’ of Franze, which is the name of the location where the winery and most of the vineyards are situated.

Cirò Doc

Cote di Franze is a winery situated close to Cirò Marina in Calabria. Cirò Marina is a small town of about 14,000 inhabitants situated a bit north of Crotone in the northeastern part of Calabria, just by the Ionian Sea. It is a coastal town, which dates back to the period of the Ancient Greek settlers who arrived in Calabria in the VII century B.C. Today the town is better known as the Città del Vino (the City of Wine). This summer when I went to Calabria, I finally had the Page 144 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

It is here that the Cote di Franze winery is located, right in the middle of the Cirò Doc district. This is an area where viticulture is a tradition that goes way back in history to the era of the Magna Grecia, as in a large part of Calabria. In fact, the ancient Greeks highly valorized the extremely fertile soil for viticulture that they discovered in Calabria. What strikes you when you visit this area is that almost everyone seems to belong to a family who owns at least a small vineyard, if not several vineyard lots spread around the countryside outside Cirò Marina. Most of the new small organic winemakers that I am writing about from Calabria, have taken over the management of the vineyards from their fathers or grandfathers thus continuing the vine growing tradition. Several of them have decided to turn the wine production from bulk wine to bottled wine at the same time as they stay true to the traditional techniques of viticulture. Two Brothers Preserving a Tradition Vincenzo and Francesco Scilanga are continuing a family tradition that started out around 300 years ago, when their ancestor, also called Vincenzo Scilanga, started cultivating grapes in Cirò. Since then the family has been vine growers and winemakers from generation to generation, which is valid proof of their love for the land and their vineyards. It was this passion that convinced Vincenzo and his brother to continue the tradition as winemakers. Vincenzo is responsible for the work in the vineyards and the winery, while Francesco deals with the more administrative part. They have no oenologist, instead, Vincenzo himself deals Page 145 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

with the winemaking processes, and he knows his native grape varieties like the back of his hand. When I talked to Vincenzo, he told me about the grafting methods that are a precious knowledge and heritage that has been forwarded over the generations in Cirò. Vincenzo himself learned it from his father and is applying this knowledge in his vineyards at the present day.

From Vineyard to Vinification The vineyards of Cote di Franze comprise 22 acres where the soil is mainly clay, but also contains sand and loam. The clay is what gives the Cote di Franze wines its structure and particular aromas. Here they Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

cultivate the indigenous grape varieties Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco. I have talked about the Gaglioppo grape in several articles, as it is the grape variety with a big G in Calabria. It has a need of sun and heat in order to ripen; therefore, it grows well in the quite dry and harsh soil of Calabria. The Gaglioppo, furthermore, has a thin skin, which makes it very sensitive to rain. The Greco Bianco is also an important white grape variety in Calabria which is used in different DOC wines such as Cirò Doc, Lamezia Doc, Bivongi Doc, etc. It is a grape, which ripens late and is generally harvested at the end of September. Furthermore, Cote di Franze is organically certified. Thus, they use no chemical pesticides or herbicides but only organic substances, such as sulfur and copper, for the treatment of the vines. They use natural yeasts, as low a level of sulfites as possible, and the fermentation and aging all takes place in stainless steel tanks. They do not use any type of oak barrels or barriques for the aging process. The wines produced in this way are indeed different every year, as they are made in a more natural and organic way, which is also the fascinating thing about it all.

Cote di Franze is organically certified.

Harvest 2016 As I mentioned above, they are cultivating both Greco Bianco and Gaglioppo, and the harvest generally starts in the second half Page 146 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

of September. They just finished the harvest for this year in mid-October. When I talked to Vincenzo Scilanga, they were doing pump over that day, which means that a certain part of the must is pumped out from the lower part of the tank during the maceration on the grape skins and pumped in again at the top of the tank. In that way, you wet the cover (cappello), which is the marc that has moved to the top, in order to better extract the tannins, aromas, etc. Another process in the cellar is the racking that you can see here. This means that they are extracting wine from the this year. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

fermentation tanks to separate it from the more solid parts, such as the marc and the suds. Returning to the harvest, Vincenzo believes that his red Gaglioppo wines will have a slightly lower alcohol percentage this year.

The Wines When I visited Vincenzo Scilanga at Cote di Franze winery, we had a small wine tasting directly in the hangar-like winery building after the short walk around the vineyard. We tasted all of the five wines that they produce, namely Cirò DOP Bianco, Kom'è IGT Calabria, Cirò DOP Rosato, Cirò DOP Rosso Classico Superiore, and Cirò DOP Rosso Classico Superiore Riserva. These are all wines where you feel the terroir and the typical characteristics of the Page 147 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

indigenous grapes. It is as if you drink a piece of Calabria and its culture when you taste them. The Cirò DOP Bianco has a straw yellow color and notes of fruit, such as apricot, and an aromatic touch. It is a sapid and mineral wine. The Kom'è IGT Calabria is a more recent wine that Vincenzo has decided to make, where he is experimenting with spontaneous fermentation. Its color resembles very much an orange wine, with a more deep yellow, orangey hue. It is an aromatic and mineral white wine with a slightly bitter aftertaste. If we then continue with the Cirò DOP Rosato, it is a rosé wine with a beautiful color, which seems like a mix between a cherry red, copper red, and salmon-like hue. It has distinct notes of fruit and minerals; the tannins are present though smooth. All in all, it is a well-balanced rosato wine. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Even though I am a big fan especially of the Kom'è IGT Calabria, but also of the Cirò DOP Rosato, their Gaglioppo wines Cirò DOP Rosso Classico Superiore 2012 and Cirò DOP Rosso Classico Superiore Riserva 2012, of course, were the highlights of the small wine tasting we had at 11 am when I visited the winery. Both wines have lovely intense notes of cherry and plums, as well as a balsamic touch and hints of under vegetation. The 2012 is fresh and mineral while the Riserva 2012, of course, also has its minerality and it is also more full-bodied and structured than the 2012. The tannins are smooth and elegant, and even more so in the Riserva 2012.

Visiting Cote di Franze Cirò is a fascinating part of Calabria with the Ionian Sea on one side, the hills on the Page 149 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

other side, and the vineyards covering the landscape in between. Indeed, a large part of the countryside outside of Cirò Marina is covered with vineyards and, as I mentioned before, many of the locals have at least a small vineyard lot where they cultivate some grapes. Vincenzo and Francesco Scilanga's winery is situated beautifully here in the middle of the vineyards with a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape. It is a bit of a journey to get to this part of Calabria, but it is well worth the time spent traveling. Therefore, for those of you who are going to Calabria, you should definitely pay Cote di Franze a visit. They produce organic wines with indigenous grape varieties such as Greco Bianco and Gaglioppo, resulting in a true expression of the Cirò terroir. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

My Wine Story My interest in wine has always been there throughout my years in Italy, however it was only roughly 5 years ago that I decided to try out a sommelier course. I had seen an advertisement on Facebook about the local Fisar course in the center of Florence, and I thought it sounded very exciting. (Fisar is one of the Italian sommelier associations and they organize courses where you get accredited as a sommelier.) Therefore, I convinced a friend to come with me, even though she actually didn’t drink much and still does not. This turned out to be one of the best ideas I have had in recent years, as it brought us to discover a new and fascinating world of oenology, wine history, wine tastings, and much more. It all lead us to continue the course, attending all three levels in one sweep. For about three years now, I have been a sommelier and it is a genuinely fulfilling passion where you learn something new and meet interesting people in the Italian wine world almost every day.Fresh as a sommelier, I started elaborating my idea about combining wine and translation. Together with some fellow sommeliers from Fisar and a British translator colleague, we developed the concept Words & Wine. This one-day seminar on wine terminology in Italian and English was held in Florence nearly 3 years ago. I continued to develop this wine and terminology concept to better fit a translator-

dominated audience together with a couple of translator colleagues, changing the course name to Words at the Winery. The first of these seminars was held at the wine estate Il Borro (near Arezzo) in June 2014. In the autumn of 2014, we organized another Words at the Winery seminar at the winery Feudi di San Gregorio, near Avellino. During last year, I held smaller informal minicourses about wine in Tuscany and a wine tasting every now and then together with my fellow sommelier, Nadia Padrin, and for Fisar Firenze. At the moment, I am working on putting together a new seminar on wine terminology in English for translators and people in the wine and tourism sector. Turkeys 2) Place oven rack on lowest level in oven. Heat oven to 450 degrees. Fold a large piece of cheesecloth into quarters and cut it into a 17 -inch, 4-layer square. Immerse cheesecloth in the melted butter and let soak.

Traditional Baked Turkey Ingredients: One 20 pound fresh whole turkey, giblets and neck removed from cavity and reserved  3 sticks of unsalted butter, melted, plus 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature  2 teaspoons salt  2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper  2 teaspoons granulated garlic  Cheesecloth  Roasting pan Foil 

1) Rinse turkey with cold water, and pat dry with paper towels. Let stand for 2 hours at room temperature.

3)Place turkey breast side up, on a roasting rack in a heavy metal roasting pan. Remove the pop up cooking timer that comes with the turkey. It's best to use an instant-read thermometer because it is much more accurate. Fold wing tips under turkey. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon each salt, granulated garlic, and pepper inside turkey. Fill large cavity and neck cavity loosely with as much stuffing as they hold comfortably; do not pack tightly. Tie legs together loosely with butcher's twine. Fold neck flap under, and secure with toothpicks. Rub turkey with the softened butter, and sprinkle with remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, granulated garlic, and pepper. 4) Lift cheesecloth out of melted butter, and squeeze it slightly, leaving it very damp. Spread it evenly over the breast and about halfway down the sides of the turkey; it can cover some of the leg area. Place turkey, legs first, in oven.

Page 153 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Cook for 30 minutes. Using a pastry brush, baste cheesecloth and exposed parts of turkey with butter melted butter. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees and continue to cook for 2 1/2 more hours, rotating the pan and basting every 30 minutes and watching pan juices; if the pan gets too full spoon out juices (reserving them for gravy). 5)After the third hour of cooking remove and discard cheesecloth. Turn roasting pan so that the breast is facing the back of the oven. Baste turkey with pan juices. If there are not enough juices, continue to use melted butter. The skin gets fragile as it browns, so baste carefully! Cook 1 more hour basting after 30 minutes. 6) After this fourth hour of cooking, insert an instant-read thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh. Be careful not to poke into a bone. The temperature should reach 180 degrees (stuffing should be between 140 degrees and 160 degrees) and the turkey should be golden brown. The breast does not need to be checked for temperature. If legs aren't fully cooked, baste turkey, return to oven, and cook another 20 to 30 minutes. 7) When fully cooked, transfer turkey to a serving platter, and let rest for about 30 minutes. Slice, serve, an enjoy!

Deep Fried Turkey Ingredients

Smoked Turkey Ingredients   

1 (12 pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed 1 (20 pound) bag high quality charcoal briquettes hickory chips or chunks

Directions 1. Place the charcoal into the bottom pan of the smoker. Light the coals and wait for the temperature of the smoker to come to 240 degrees F (115 degrees C). Lightly oil grate. 2. Rinse turkey under cold water, and pat dry. Place hickory chips into a pan with water to cover. 3. Place turkey onto the prepared grate. Add 2 handfuls damp chips at start of cooking, then a handful every couple of hours during the cooking process. Leave the lid on - DO NOT keep looking at turkey, or you will let the heat out! Continue smoking until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches180 degrees F (82 degrees C), or keep going until the coals die out.

1 (10-pound) turkey 2 tablespoons House seasoning, recipe follows 2 tablespoons of your favorite dry rub 3 to 5 gallons peanut oil Cooks Note: To measure the amount of oil needed to fry the turkey, place turkey in fryer, add water to top of turkey, remove the turkey and the water line will indicate how much oil will be needed to fry your turkey. Having too much oil can cause a fire. The pot should not be more than 3/4 full or the oil could overflow when the turkey is added.

Dressings To save time, you can make your cornbread ahead of time and freeze it. If you don’t want to make your own, buy a pan of good-quality cornbread at a bakery or specialty-foods store.

Special equipment: An oyster knife has a broad, thin, but sturdy and rigid blade. Some have a small hook at the tip to help wedge open the shell. An oyster knife shouldn’t be sharp. The blade has to be just thin enough to insert into the tightly closed shell and strong enough to pop the shell apart without snapping or bending.

Game plan: The heat and time required to safely cook stuffing that’s packed into a good-size turkey usually results in a breast with the flavor of sawdust. The stuffing should be cooked to 160°F, the same internal temperature required for the turkey, so you’d think it would work perfectly. But when the bird is at 160°F and ready to serve, the stuffing (insulated against the oven heat by the bird) is still undercooked and needs at least another 90 minutes in the oven. Which is why preparing your stuffing separately, as done here, is ideal. The cornbread needs to dry in the oven overnight, so plan accordingly.

Instructions 1. Heat the oven to 275°F and arrange a rack in the middle. 2. Using your hands, crumble the cornbread into pieces no larger than 3/4 inch onto a rimmed baking sheet. Spread into an even layer and bake for 15 minutes. Turn off the oven and let the cornbread dry out inside the oven overnight. 3. The next day, transfer the cornbread to a large bowl and set it aside. Heat the oven to 350°F with the rack in the middle. Coat a 13by-9-inch baking dish with butter; set aside. 4. Melt 1 1/2 sticks of the measured butter in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the celery, celery root, and onion, season with salt, and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 10 minutes. 5. Add the thyme and celery seeds and cook, stirring occasionally, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper and transfer to the bowl with the cornbread. 6. Drizzle the stock or broth and the oyster liquid into the bowl and stir until completely incorporated. Fold in the oysters, eggs, and parsley. 7. Transfer the stuffing to the prepared baking dish. Cut the remaining 1/2 stick of butter into small pieces and scatter them over the top of the stuffing. Bake until golden brown on top, about 40 minutes.

Method

1. Preheat your oven (or smoker) to 500°F/260° C, or its highest level. 2. In a wide, metal pan, place ¼-cup of olive oil, the garlic, onion, and celery. Put it in the oven and let cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion softens, 8 minutes. Add the green pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes, until the color brightens and they turn a bit brown.

Chorizo & Sweet Potato Hash

3. Add chouriço, bay leaves, tomatoes, and saffron. Cook for 20 to 30 minutes, simmering Ingredients: the “sauce” in the oven. Add 1 lb Chorizo (small dice) 2 Large Sweet Potatoes (small dice) the risotto and stir. 4. Split the lobster from head to tail. Scrape the entrails out of the body and head cavities. Clean the vein in the tail. Crack the claws with the back of a French knife or whack with a meat mallet. (This permits the claw meat to cook in approximately the same time as the tail.) Add the orange juice and stock to the sauce. Place the lobster halves on the sauce, spooning some onto all parts of the lobster. 5. Back to the forno. Cook for 10 to 20 minutes, then add the mussels. Cook for about as long again. When it is done, the lobster tail meat will be firm (not dry—that’s why you spooned the sauce over it). The mussels will be open and the rice cooked through. Add salt and pepper to finish. The chouriço and the natural brininess of the mussel and lobster juice add salt; do taste before you salt. 6. Serve in the casserole dish with big spoons, claw crackers and picks.

As a business coach in New York’s financial district who specializes in career enhancement, I honor you for your successes and for seeking career enhancement in your field. How can you optimize your already thriving career? And how can you optimize your already thriving career without sacrificing peace? One of the reasons some people hit ceilings in their career is that they are taking an entrepreneurial approach rather than a purposeful approach. So what do I mean by that? When we modify our approach, and reframe our behavior, the potential is there for the best results, every time. The application, however, is in your approach. The first thing you need to do for career enhancement is find your one thing. If you are already established and have a thriving career, chances are that you already found it. Great! Are you driven by it though? Perhaps you currently have a thriving career, but lose sleep from fear of hitting a ceiling. You put stock into the mental noise and have difficulties tuning out the chatter in the mind, and suddenly your one thing has been obscured. Are your producers driven by one thing? Do they even know what their one thing is? Page 166 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Here lies much of the problem and the reason why your company may hit ceilings. Your producers must also know their one thing and whatever their passion, skill, or one thing may be…it must be recognized, and must become their purpose. There is a vast difference between an entrepreneurial approach and a purposeful approach. That difference will either keep you hitting ceilings, living with stress, living with too much on your plate, or getting extraordinary results and peace of mind. Which do you choose? The most popular approach, but not necessarily the best, is an entrepreneurial one. It is well meaning, as we race off to Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

would you ever want to put more stress on an already high pressured environment?

do what needs to get done enthusiastically, but because we all naturally have limitations, we will eventually hit a ceiling. Then we get disappointed and start to buy into the chatter in the mind that tells us what we can or cannot achieve or who we can or cannot become. So when we hit that ceiling, we bounce up against it…again and again. It’s a vicious cycle that always runs hand in hand with the all-encompassing and unproductive mental, physical, and emotional condition. Stress. The financial services business is unquestionably a fast paced environment aligned with the background static of sharp risk, market and regulatory pressures, and moment to moment strides to grow and enhance your shareholders values. Knowing this, why Page 167 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

If you were to take a purposeful approach, it commits you to grow continuously, where you are always asking, “What are my options, here?” There is tremendous value and weight of importance in knowing your passion, or your one thing. Every day should be one big thing, with one small bull’s eye focus, if you will. Much of my career enhancement coaching uses a focusing question that in turn, narrows down those choices to the next thing you should do. Annually, quarterly, monthly, daily, in this meeting, and so on. This is goal setting to the now. The next thing I do as your career enhancement coach is teach time blocking, counterbalancing, and implement accountability. This is critical in the finance world. In this environment, the stable companies and continuously growing ones will be those that can take these challenges, and turn them into opportunities. This can only be done consistently with a leader who takes a purposeful approach and requires the same from their managers and producers. Your career is not your purpose, rather your career is guided by your purpose. The catalyst to career enhancement is your purpose. That purposeful approach is what will grow you and your company to heights that see no boundaries, and have no ceilings of achievement no matter what the circumstance, Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

because it is always seeking that next option. This is how to realize career advancement. If you want to optimize your already thriving career, it will begin with the one thing you put into place. Life doesn’t just line up for you. You need to place the first domino and put it in motion. This is why having a career enhancement coach like myself is essential. Let’s analyze this. What’s the current language of your managers and producers? Do they blame a shift in the market on a blip, or a glitch? Perhaps they blame it on an anomaly? Do they say, it’s a bad month? Do they fight the reality of a situation and toss responsibility elsewhere, and perhaps on other people within the Page 168 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

company? How many times have you heard someone say, it’s not my job? Do you notice others simply hoping that things change for the better? Do they feel this is the best they can do? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you need a coach like myself to partner with and implement accountability within your walls. Managers and Producers with accountability, investigate the problem. They take ownership of the problem, and address the reality of the problem rather than toss blame or make excuses. Accountable people look for solutions to the problem. Accountable Presidents, CEO’s, Managers, and Producers alike will absorb Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

setbacks and keep moving. They see no ceiling of opportunity. Accountable people are results oriented and never defend actions, skill levels or lack thereof, models or systems that were put in place, or relationships that just aren’t getting the job done. They address the situation or problem and take the necessary actions to change it. They bring their best at whatever it takes without holding back. If you cannot be accountable, you will have difficulties achieving the extraordinary results that you are so capable of, if working with the right career enhancement coach. It is the best choice for extraordinary results. I am not a cheerleader, A career enhancement coach is the highest form of an accountability partner. although I can be very uplifting. Welcome back… I trust you had a good month of writing and you enjoyed last month’s article on getting started and using quotes for inspiration. As promised, this month we are talking about “shitty first drafts” like Anne Lamott talks about in her book, Bird by Bird. As I was researching this topic of writing first drafts I found countless authors referencing her work of Shitty First Drafts over and over and over again.

“[Be] willing to write really badly. It won’t hurt you to do that. Let it float away and the good stuff follows.

First, a little bit about Anne Lamott. She is the author of six novels, including Rosie (1983), Crooked Little Heart (1997), All New People (2000), and Blue Shoes (2002). She has also been the food reviewer for California magazine, a book reviewer for Mademoiselle, and a regular contributor to Salon’s “Mothers Who Think.” Her nonfiction books include Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son’s First Year (1993), in which she describes her adventures as a single parent, and Tender Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith (1999), in which she charts her journey toward faith in God. Anne argues in her popular book about writing, Bird by Bird, for the need to let go and write those “shitty first drafts” that lead to clarity and sometimes brilliance in our second and third drafts.

Page 174 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

As she begins talking about the idea of “shitty first drafts,” she says, “All good writers write them. This is how they end up with good second drafts and terrific third drafts. People tend to look at successful writers who are getting their books published and maybe even doing well financially and think that they sit down at their desks every morning feeling like a million dollars, feeling great about who they are and how much talent they have and what a great story they have to tell; that they take in a few deep breaths, push back their sleeves, roll their necks a few times to get Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

and go through the pain of sitting down and writing. In all actuality, by having this belief or mindset allows us to justify not sitting down and writing those “shitty first drafts” at all. I would like to take a moment and share my experience of myself as I sit here working on this article, especially this paragraph alone; that I have modified the paragraph at least a half a dozen times if not more (I am not exaggerating) until I finally have it where I want it.

all the cricks out, and dive in, typing fully formed passages as fast as a court reporter. But this is just the fantasy of the uninitiated.” [Sic] So, let’s look at her premise of “the fantasy of the uninitiated” where she is stipulating that there is a belief or mindset that successful authors just sit down, roll up their sleeves and write “elegant first drafts.” We know this is truly not the case, even though we would like to think it to be true. We just don’t want to have to suffer Page 175 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

I have changed the quote, that I ultimately chose to use to make my point on being willing to write badly at least 4 times while finally landing on a quote by Jennifer Egan author of the novel, A Visit from the Goon Squad, who won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction. She says, “[Be] willing to write really badly. It won’t hurt you to do that. I think there is this fear of writing badly, something primal about it, like: ’This bad stuff is coming out of me…’ Forget it! Let it float away and the good stuff follows. For me, the bad beginning is just something to build on. It’s no big deal. You have to give yourself permission to do that because you can’t expect when you write regularly to always write well. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

This is when people get into the habit of waiting for the good moments, and that is where I think writer’s block comes from. Like it’s not happening. Well, maybe good writing isn’t happening, but let some bad writing happen… She goes on to day that when she was writing The Keep, my writing was so terrible. It was God-awful. My working title for that first draft was, A Short Bad Novel. I thought; ’How can I disappoint?’” [Sic]

Very Very few few writers writers really really know know what what they they are are doing doing until until they've they've done done it. it.

Anne Lamott, goes on to say, “Almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts. You need to start somewhere. Start by getting something -- anything -- down on paper. A friend of mine says that the first draft is the down draft -- you just get it down. The second draft is the up draft -you fix it up. You try to say what you have to say more accurately. And the third draft is the dental draft, where you check every tooth, to see if it's loose or cramped or decayed, or even, God help us, healthy.” I really believe that we forget that no one is going to see these rough drafts except for ourselves, not our editors, not the public so there is no way for us to be judged, except for ourselves or in most cases our Page 176 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

own egos. I believe the core issue is we don’t want anyone to see us at one of our most vulnerable times while we are standing there “naked and struggling” to put two sentences together let alone two thoughts together in order to express our ideas succinctly. For some novice authors they feel this is a license to “give up” and stop writing because they think that their writing isn’t any good. Instead of looking at it as an opportunity to stop writing, look at it as Cory Doctorow does, author of With a Little Help, For the Win, Makers, and Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, “. . . You can’t tell if what you’re writing is good or bad while you’re writing it.” He goes on to say, “Write when the book sucks and it isn’t going anywhere. Just keep writing. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

It doesn’t suck. Your conscious is having a panic attack because it doesn’t believe your subconscious knows what it’s doing.” No matter how painful it may seem at first, I believe courage and faith is what one needs to get through that first draft. I think when we start, what’s really going on is that we don’t believe or have faith that by the end of whatever we are writing will actually come together into a cohesive manuscript regardless of whether it’s an article, a blog or a book. I suggest at looking at it as a personal invitation, as Josh Shenk, author of Lincoln’s Melancholy says, “Get through a draft as quickly as possible… The old writer’s rule applies: Have the courage to write badly.” I know for me that I don’t Page 177 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

really know where I am going with my writing including this article until I have done it. Then, it is almost like magic that it all comes together in the end. I find it calmly reassuring for me that so many authors turn to Anne Lamott in her discussion of Shitty First Drafts, to give themselves permission to not know where they are going; “Very few writers really know what they are doing until they've done it. Nor do they go about their business feeling dewy and thrilled. They do not type a few stiff warm-up sentences and then find themselves bounding along like huskies across the snow . . . The right words and sentences just do not come pouring out like ticker tape most of the time.” As author Anne Enright who has published novels, short stories, essays, and one nonfiction book to include, A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and her novel The Gathering, which won the 2007 Man Booker Prize says; “The way to write a book is to actually write a book. A pen is useful, typing is also good. Keep putting words on the page.” I know for me if I put enough words on the page, soon enough they will start to unravel and begin to magically move into a sequence that makes sense by creating a sequence of continuity. When Deborah Blum author of The Poisoner’s Handbook and Ghost Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Navigating The Holidays Etiquette Tips For A Smoother Holiday

By Rachel Isgar

Once November hits we start thinking about the upcoming holiday season. For some of us that is exciting and for some of us we associate it with a fair amount of stress. Some of us are very excited to take our china out once a year and plan a full holiday meal and put up holiday decorations. Some people simply choose to go away for some of the holidays so they don’t have to host company or holiday meals and can avoid family conflict.

No matter which religion you practice (or don’t) there are some common threads that getting ready for the holidays involve.

Page 182 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Table Settings What if I don’t own china or have enough nice dishes for a full table to set but I want to host Thanksgiving at my place this year?

 China is beautiful but not necessary in my opinion.  Perhaps we registered for china if we are married and feel like we have to use it. It is often passed down as an heirloom and has sentimental value too.  Table settings can range from one plate for the main course and one plate for dessert to multiple plates and courses. This is a personal choice of the host. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

acceptable in this day and age. You can also buy beautiful disposable silverware (caution some of these are a little tricky to cut into chicken or meat with. I have had many a plastic utensil break on me).

 Remember if you are a guest you are not typically the one doing the dishes.

 Think about how

There are numerous websites that show beautiful layout arrangements from simple to advanced. Know your stress level as a host or hostess so you can plan for a casual approach to entertaining so you can have fun with it and this starts out with figuring out your menu and dishes.

 Generally if the host is having fun, everyone else will follow the lead. If the host appears stressed that may wear off on company.  It is perfectly acceptable to assign guests different dishes to bring. You should know that there are beautiful knock off disposable china place settings which can be purchased at Costco, Smart and Final, Party City, etc… amongst other stores and this is very Page 183 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

many courses you are serving so you have an idea of the quantity you will need to buy before you get to the store.

 Thanksgiving can be a great time to teach your children to set the table if you have not done this yet.

 It is also a good time to explain why you use different sized forks and spoons with fancier meals. Sometimes adults don’t know the differences either.

Table Decorations 

Some people like to place name holders at individual seats so people know where to sit.  This can also be very helpful with holiday events where there are divorced parents with both in attendance.  These can also be helpful if you are trying to mix up the ladies and the men and the children.  Making the placeholders can also become a great art project for children prior to the holiday if they are seeking a way to be involved in the day’s planning and events. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Putting flowers or holiday themed decorations out at the table gives a very festive look.  Candles are also a great addition if young children are not present.  For a guest coming that is very craft oriented they may have a field day making some holiday decorations, but be specific on what you are asking them to do. Make sure you will have room at the table for decorations before putting too much thought into it.  Michael’s Arts and Craft Stores have tons of great ideas on display and the supplies you need to replicate. Page 184 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Invitations  Request an R.S.V.P. with a specific date on the invitation whether it is sent in the mail or electronically. As the host you need an accurate head count.  Don’t be surprised if a lot of people don’t R.S.V.P. even when you asked them to. In this case it is o.k. to follow up to see if they are coming. Hosting In-laws or Your Own Parents

Holiday Arguments  A holiday meal is not the time for divorced couples to discuss issues. If there is business that needs to be taken care of then find a way to approach this before or after Thanksgiving so everyone can enjoy the day!

 If you and your spouse or significant other differ on how to handle conflict with company around figure it out early in your relationship. A quarrel with your mate can make a special day go south.

 If you have issues with your own child(ren) be careful to pick your battles and really limit it on the holiday. You all want to have happy memories later on.

 Don’t draw a third party into your issue.  If you need to vent to make it through the day

then go outside far away where no one can hear.

I have a brother-in-law that I adore. He told me many years ago that after three nights house guests can smell like fish (meaning that 3 nights is the perfect amount of time for a visit). If guests are traveling a far distance it is o.k. to also consider the option of a hotel for a portion of the visit even though this may be uncomfortable to introduce.

 Set a timeline for the visit before you

 

make the invite. Choose this timeline very carefully with your spouse or significant other. If your houseguests have airline tickets they will not be leaving early. Have an activity planned each day. Even if the event is an afternoon card game or scrabble game or taking the Grandkids to the park, it will give everyone something to look forward to and offer some structure.

 Take out food for dinner some nights of the visit is A o.k. You do not have to cook for your      

company very night nor should you be expected to. Your parents or in-laws should at least offer to pay for the take out food or eating out. Have some good movies on hand for watching at night after dinner. Keep up your regular exercise routine if you have one. Your houseguests will understand and you will need the break and mental release. Encourage your houseguests to take a walk weather permitting so you can get some time alone in your house. Allow and encourage in-laws to get involved. Everyone wants to feel needed. No one wants to feel like they are a burden. And, you may really need an extra set of hands if you are the host. If you have children this is a good opportunity for you to get a date night out while the Grandparents watch the kids for a couple hours (if they are able to do this). It also gives special bonding time for the Grandparents and grandchildren. You may need to bring this idea up….. If there is a real issue brewing in the house let the actual son or daughter of the In-laws be the one to deal with it.

Hostess Gifts Do not under any circumstances show up for Thanksgiving dinner without a hostess gift or a dish for the meal (even if you ask the host what you can bring and they say “just yourself.”). If you want to contribute a dish to the meal ask the host or hostess in advance what you can contribute towards the meal so you are not duplicating. Great hostess gift recommendations are:

 Flowers  Bottle of wine  Pretty disposable

napkins for the bathroom (especially during the cold and flu season this is a great gift)

FLOWERS WINE GIFTS WINE GIFTS FLOWERS Don’t show up and regift something that may have been given to you by a member of the group you will be with. Also if you are even considering regifting make sure the item is in its original packaging and has never been opened.

If it is a food item make sure it is new and fresh. Thanksgiving reminds us to be thankful for what we have. Putting some advance planning into the holiday season and sharing some of the ideas in this article with your extended family can make the day special for everyone!

What One man Did On His Vacation 76 Years Ago Your Executive Skills CAN Change the World By Althea Ledford Born in 1909 to German Jewish parents, Winston, initially named Wertheim, was born. A normal Jewish childhood with the exception of the family converting to Christianity at the time they migrated to London. In 1923, Winton entered Stowe School, which had just opened. He left without graduating, attending night school while volunteering at the Midland Bank. He then went to Hamburg, where he worked at Behrens Bank, followed by Wasserman Bank in Berlin. In 1931, he moved to France and worked for the Banque Nationale de Crédit in Paris. He also earned a banking qualification in France. Returning to London, he became a broker at the London Stock Exchange. Page 188 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Shortly before Christmas 1938, Winton was planning to travel to Switzerland for a skiing holiday. He decided instead to visit Prague and help his friend Martin Blake, who had called to ask him to assist in Jewish welfare work. Winton single- handedly established an organization to aid children from Jewish families at risk from the Nazis. He set up his office at a dining room table in his hotel in Wenceslas Square. In November 1938, following the Kristallnacht in Nazi-ruled Germany, the House of Commons approved a measure to allow the entry into Britain of refugees younger than 17, provided they had a place to stay and a warranty of £50 was Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

An important obstacle was getting official permission to cross into the Netherlands, as the children were destined to embark on the ferry at the Hook of Holland. After the Kristallnacht in November 1938, the Dutch government officially closed its borders to any Jewish refugees. The border guards (marechaussee) actively searched for them and returned any found to Germany, despite the horrors of Kristallnacht being well known. (From the border, the synagogue in Aachen could be seen burning just 3 miles away). Winton succeeded, thanks to the guarantees he had obtained from Britain. After the first train, crossing the Netherlands went smoothly. A Dutch woman, Gertruida Wijsmuller-Meier saved another 10,000 Jewish children, mostly from Vienna and Berlin via the Hook, though it is not known

Page 189 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

(In 2012, a statue was erected on the quay at the Hook to commemorate all who had saved Jewish children.) Winton found homes in Britain for 669 children, many of whose parents would perish in Auschwitz. Winton's mother worked with him to place the children in homes and later hostels. Throughout the summer, Winton placed advertisements seeking families to accept them. The last group of 250, scheduled to leave Prague on 1 September 1939, did not reach safety. Hitler had invaded Poland and World War II had begun. Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Winton sought registration as a conscientious objector and served during the war with the Red Cross, but in 1940 he rescinded his objection to join the Royal Air Force, Administrative and Special Duties Branch. He was initially an airman, rising to sergeant by the time he was commissioned on June 22, 1944 as an acting pilot officer on probation. He was later promoted to pilot officer on probation and then war substantive flying officer. He relinquished his commission on 19 May 1954, retaining the honorary rank of flight lieutenant. Winton kept quiet about his humanitarian exploits for many years, until his wife Grete

Page 190 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

It contained lists of the children, including their parents' names, and the names and addresses of the families that took them in. By sending letters to these addresses, 80 of "Winton's children" were found in Britain. The world found out about his work in 1988 during an episode of the BBC television program That's Life! when he was invited as a member of the audience. At one point Winton's scrapbook was shown, and his achievements explained. The host of the program, Esther Rantzen, asked whether any in the audience owed their lives to Winton, and, if so, to stand – more than two dozen people surrounding Winton rose and applauded. In the 1983 Queen's Birthday Honors, Winton was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his work in establishing the Abbeyfield homes for the elderly in Britain, and in the 2002 New Year Honors, he was knighted in recognition of his work on the Czech Kindertransport. He met the Queen again during her state visit to Bratislava, Slovakia in October 2008. In 2003, Winton received the Pride of Britain Award for Lifetime Achievement. Winton was awarded Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, Fourth Class, by the Czech President in 1998. In 2008, he was honored by the Czech government in several ways. An elementary school in Kunžak is named after him, and he was awarded the Cross of Merit of the Minister of Defense, Grade I. The Czech government nominated him for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize. by Czech astronomers Jana Tichá and Miloš Tichý. Winton was baptized as a Christian, but his Jewish ancestry disqualified him from being declared a Righteous Among the Nations by Israel. In 2010, Winton was named a British Hero of the Holocaust by the British Government. In September 2010, his statue was unveiled at Maidenhead railway station by Home Secretary Theresa May, MP for Maidenhead. Go For NO!

estination No is how you get there. Authors Richard Fenton @ Andrea Waltz

In a world inundated with sales books on getting to yes, this book recommends just the opposite, focusing on how increasing your failure rate can greatly accelerate your movement toward ultimate success. Go for No! chronicles four days in the life of fictional character Eric Bratton, a call reluctant copier salesman who wakes up one morning to find himself in a strange house with no idea of how he got there. But this house doesn t belong to just anyone! It belongs to him... a wildly successful, ten years in the future version of the person he could become if he learns to overcome his self-limiting beliefs and overcome his fear of failure. Through the dialogue of the two main characters the authors have fashioned an entertaining story to present the key concepts essential to sales success. Readers learn... ...What it takes to outperform 92% of the world s salespeople ...That failing and failure are two very different things ... Why it s important to celebrate success and

failure ... How to get past failures quickly and move on ...That the most empowering word in the world is not yes... it s NO! Written to be intentionally short and to the point, Go for No! is a quick, fun read with valuable lessons that can change the way you think, sell, and live!

Editorial Review "Read this book! Put down whatever you're reading right now, take a deep breath, and read this book. It won't take long, but it might change your life. Haveing read dozens of books on leadership, sales, motivation, and business, I have become somehwat picky about the books I read and particularly about the books I recommend. I recommend this one without reservation." -Steven List, Backoftheroom.com "If you're serious about living your definition of success add Go for No! to your personal library. The ideas shared are terrific and the unique story format that the book is written in makes it a delight to read." --Josh Hinds, Founder, Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

Meet one of Our

NAFE Women

Reatha Reedus., Nafe Member and a Multi Talented Women I first meet Reatha Reedus 6 years ago when I joined the GFWC Menifee/Sun City Women’s Club. In 2012 Reatha also became a member of my Menifee Nafe (National Association of Female Executives) group. Reatha totally has a heart for volunteering something she has been doing her entire life. She has been active in countless organizations and projects over the years some she started because she saw a need. She has mentored small business owners, volunteered for the Temecula Valley Senior Citizens Center and Food Bank, supported the Arts and developed “Going Red for Healthy Hearts”, a community summit highlighting and educating the public on heart disease in women. I had the opportunity to work with her on one of the Go Red projects along with her beautiful and talented daughter, Dr Desiree Reedus, a cardiologist, who currently is in Indiana heading up the Urgent Care department at the VA Hospital where she serves our Veterans in need. Page 206 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

For many years Reatha served as the chair of various committees for the Temecula Film Festival, where she initiated a program encouraging seniors and those with disabilities to partake in the festival activities. One her projects with the Film Festival was designing and hosting Hospitality Suites for the film makers. She for many years also chaired the Arts and Partnership Committee for the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in The DeAnza District. As a member of the Riverside Women’s Club she and her daughter Dr. Desiree Reedus started the “Doctors Corner” with first year students assigned by the Dean from the first Medical School in Riverside. They have the opportunity to be mentored by Dr. Reedus and also gained valuable knowledge from the many members of the Riverside Women’s Club. Reatha is also amazing at decorating, many times I have asked her to take that unique talent to help me with events I was chairing like the GFWC Menifee/ Sun City Women’s Club Tea, many Nafe projects and last year I asked her to help me with the help of others to decorate the stage for the Temecula Valley Symphony Christmas Concert, which looked amazing. She has helped decorate numerous Nafe Conferences over the years as well and people are always in awe as how beautiful things look. Below are a few photos of some decorating she did for the Riverside Women’s Club Reatha was born in Alabama, and raised in Louisville. Kentucky and Cleveland, Ohio. She moved to California in 1970, and first lived in Claremont where she also got her Subscription link www.female-exec.com/s.html

MBA from Claremont Graduate College. She currently resides in Temecula, California where she has been a long time resident and very active in many community activities and events. She is the oldest of 7 children 2 boys and 5 girls. Her hobbies are all types of art, which includes painting, ceramics, sculpturing and a variety of crafts, she has a knack to create beautiful things. Over the years she has won many awards, one of her latest was the Soroptomist Club Women of Significance Award and the President of the United States Call to Service Award for her over 4,000 hours of community service. She has received many awards from State and local government agencies as well. She continues to help the GFWC Riverside Women’s Club with other projects including their English Tea schedule for November. She is also a total support to the Menifee Nafe Network where she is also a member. Reatha is certainly the person you want on your Team no matter what project you are doing, I know I love it when she is part of my team on the numerous projects I get involved with.

What Does NAFE Mean to Me When I joined the Riverside Chapter of NAFE, I believe although the intent may have been to connect and network with other professional women, I did not expect the profound personal relationships I have developed. Nafe has provided an extension of myself that I was seeking to cultivate and expand. The experiences and encounters with each of the ladies have been and is actively influential in my life and I in theirs. This network offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere that encourages me to continue my interactions. The connections I have developed provide intense private and excellent business relationships that have allowed me to grow and be of service to those I come in contact with. The training and the speakers that are available has increased my knowledge and the potential to excel while focusing on specific areas of business and life Nafe Riverside Network is the perfect organization that allows women, such as myself to come together, motivate each other and offer reciprocal help and assistance one to another. It has enhanced my life in ways that have helped me give of myself without feeling used or abused. The supplementary leadership skills attained have given me the ability and opportunity to reach out to women of all ethnicities, economic and social diversities, meeting their needs and providing insight into any given situation.
