Tribal or Village Mentality Will Kill a Nation
racism is a form of a village or tribal mentality. And if not addressed "in earnest", it will have the same devastating impact and short-sited damage this type of thinking has had in the past.
Tribal and village mentality will kill a nation. The first leg of the "Slave Trade" was Black on Black, African on African crime. It was one village selling off the members of another village to the slave traders. This seemed to solve two problems: 1) getting rid of the rival villagers and 2) making a profit at the same time. This was done without understanding or realizing they were breaking down a nation.
If we do not come together and realize that we are "One Nation", those other "One Nations" that realize they are "One Nation", will capitalize on these tribal distractions. Through our unhealthy preoccupation with racism, other countries can gain an ever so slight advantage through that age-old strategy of divide and conquer. And since we've taken care of the "divide side" of that equation, they only have to "conquer".
Here, in North America, Native Americans were identified by tribes. This mentality made it possible for the member of one tribe to sell out and expose the members of another tribe. Again, not realizing they were weakening their own nation. Village mentality was to Africa what the tribal mentality was to Native Americans. Different cultures but the same concept with devastating results. While the scouts and traders were busy making a profit, they were simultaneously destroying their own nation. They also facilitated the efforts of another group's "National Agenda". People functioning with a nationalistic concept will win out over tribal mentality every time. Our True Advantage is being a Multicultural Nation. When a single culture or race, dominates an entire country, it creates blind spots. For example, Russia, India, or China have a single culture. Even with subcultures considered, these countries are dominated by a primary single culture. Because everyone thinks and operated under similar values, cultural perspectives, languages, and traditions, their exposure and fundamental values are very similar or exactly the same. This means an entire group does know what they don't know. Another point about a monoculture is that even when groups are exposed to other cultures, there is limited "real" appreciation because there is limited real exposure. becomes the basis for development of their governmental systems. The benefit of America is that we have diversity. Blended culture is everywhere. And liken to an immune system, the more exposure to different types of "everything", the more individuals can "consider" and understand other points of view. Secondly, with the blending of various cultures, we have access to a broader cultural spectrum of ears and eyeballs creating a super immune system of awareness. When diversity comes is into play, blind spots are more likely to disappear. This means better projects, advertisements, laws, theories, software designs, television programming, curriculums, and "basically" everything. Once we realize everyone has value and by lifting everyone to their maximum capacity, we have begun to think bigger. Thinking bigger is the lead-in to creating a more perfect "anything". and as Abraham Lincoln said "A form a more perfect Union" I'm Althea Ledford and I hope you enjoy this issue. Tips on Choosing the Best Credit Card
Unlocking the Best Credit Card When it comes to searching for a suitable credit card, most of us apply for one either from the financial institution we bank with, from an advertisement we saw on television, or through a promotion with 0% financing for purchases and/or balance transfers for a certain period. Given the vast number of credit cards that are available on the market today, it is nearly impossible to research each one of them to find out which ones are most suitable based on what you purchase the most and your spending patterns. Don’t worry, there is a 2019 analysis which I’ll share with you below for hundreds of credit cards in the U.S. News card database. But first, I’ll answer some questions I often get regarding credit card best practices.
Does having multiple credit cards affect your credit Depending upon how much you spend, having multiple cards can improve your credit since it increases the amount of credit limit that is available to you. To maximize your credit score, you should always keep your debts under 30% of your total credit limit across all your credit cards. Personally, I think having four major credit cards is enough for monthly usage as well as for emergencies. I suggest using two credit cards regularly to maximize rewards as both may give higher rewards for different categories.
How to Use a Credit Card This may sound cliché, but it always amazes me as to how many people, including myself of course, tend to purchase things that are not necessary and cannot afford, on a credit card. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to use a credit card like cash or a debit card. If you cannot pay of the entire balance by the due date, then it’s Page 30 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive
probably time to start using cash as a strategy for self-control. In order to reap the benefits of rewards, you do not have to wait until the end of the billing cycle to pay the entire credit card balance. Some of you out there don’t like to wait until the entire balance accumulates on next months bill before paying it. What you can do for example, is after you make the purchase on the card, wait a few days for it to get out of the pending stage, and then pay the credit card balance by either transferring the money from your checking account, if you bank with the same bank, or just pay the balance through online banking. You will still earn your rewards.

by the Credit Card Issuer Interest rates for credit cards are usually variable. The interest rate is tied to a benchmark which is known as the index rate, or prime rate. This is then added to the spread assigned by the bank to get the variable rate. The rate will vary depending on whether the Federal Reserve raises or lowers the prime rate. Other factors that may increase your credit cards rates are: • Your credit score has experienced a significant drop which means your credit card issuer can increase your rate on the condition they notify you 45 days in advance.
The balance is $3,000 @ 17.99% and you make monthly payments of $200. It would take about 17.12 months (1.43 years) to pay off the balance at which time you would have paid about $423.71 towards interest. However, given the same scenario, you would not pay any interest at all, if the promotion is for zero percent for 15 months because at a monthly payment of $200, it will take 15 months to pay off the entire balance, saving you about $423.71 in interest. The 3.0% balance transfer fee on $3,000 would only come out to $90.00. Savings of $333.71 ($423,71 - $90.00)
• You are 60 Days Late on Payments – This will not only have a significant negative impact on your credit score, but also your rate may increase dramatically. • If you received your credit card with a promotional rate, then your rate will increase after the promotion.
Cash Advance Fee One major area that I see consumers overlook when accepting an offer for 0% balance transfers is that either they don’t know or forget there is always a balance transfer fee of about 3% - 5% that is added on to the actual balance being transferred. Depending on when you plan to pay off the balance, make sure transferring the balance will save you money and not add to it. What is Needed for Systematic Change? From the viewpoint of your work at TomKat Foundation, as we remain in the midst of the COVID 19 outbreak and recent uprisings, what are you seeing as our greatest opportunity and need for systemic change? This is an opportunity for systemic change across the board in my humble opinion, because as Leonard Cohen said “look for the cracks, that's where the light gets in”. Black Liberation which pulls in all sorts of other constituencies who have similar aims, to be fully equal have all the opportunities and Thrive. Now, I almost need a word for whatever this quadfecta is because we're about to enter the firestorm season as it relate to climate change. It sounds very daunting, but I think this presents an opportunity to shoot the moon- to win every hand, every suit all at the same time. Because, honestly, these systems are massive highly overlapping, interdependent and inter-synergistic. So, since we last talked, of course we are continuing to respond to the needs of covid19 from hunger, to livelihood pivots, to health response. Subscription Link ETMMedia.net
Of course we're continuing to respond to the economic shutdown in terms of policy work around protection from financial predation which always is on the rise during economic recessions- to hoping that they extend the unemployment benefits- to being a bank that issued PPP loans on the order of 190 million dollars of them to save 18,000 to 19,000 jobs.

So there is still all that work going, but now we layer over movement for black lives, racial uprisings that are going to help us get finally to a beloved community that recognizes full equality and opportunity thriving etc, not just to Black Americans, but for all the other constituencies that will come along with them, but starting first and foremost with the African American Liberation movement. It just creates more opportunity to change these massive status quo systems for the better.
3. how who can access it
So, to use one example we are working on something called “Growing the Table” an initiative within the “Farm to Family Partnership”. The Farm to Family Partnership is 15 years old it has always paid the pick and pack out expense to rescue harvest from land fill and redirect it towards food banks. It is actually good for the growers and it's good for the Food Bank but it is in my view and underutilized opportunity that is now brought into focus by the quadfecto that we are now facing. So we’ve been asked to help support that with more resources but we're going to change the program in three important aspects. Right now, 220 Growers & Packers meet all of the needs of the food bank about 160 million pounds of food each year. And the food banks are the only distribution point. So we need to figure out a way to grow the table in three ways. 1. who gets to produce the food 2. how much of it is diverted to use and Those 220 growers are largely more conventional growers, more white LED organizations etc. We want to divert a bunch of the demand also this excess demand to buy POD farmers, to women Farmers, to LGBTQ plus plus farmers and bridge them into a new food economy gets much more representative of society and carries with it a lot more racial and gender equity. So we’re going to reach out to these farmers and not only have them participate in the pick and pack out expense but we are going to pay them form their harvest, at least the wholesale value. So that they can be disproportionately represented in the food economy post COVID. And the food banks, they are constrained in their storage capacity and their labor base right now. They don’t have any more storage and their labor base is very dependent on the senior volunteers who can no longer congregate. So we are proliferating the delivery sites not just to food banks, but to schools districts, community based organizations and reactivated restaurants that world central kitchen and Chef Jose Andres have consolidated-coalesced. And the Defacto, as a result of expanding the supply and accessibility on the demand side, we hope to push much more fresh fruit and vegetables through there that are organically and regeneratively grown. So it looks like just a big mess that we have to muddle through but actually it’s an opportunity to durably and permanently shift the food supply chain in favor of racial and gender equity and environmental resiliency and climate mitigation. Question #2
What can everybody else do to get involved? Anybody who wants to help the Growing the Table Initiative within the Farm to Family Partnership can certainly contribute resources, but also let us know about the long standing female and LGBTQ organization who have already been reconnecting farmers of that type with consumer markets and others that are that are still ongoing during COVID. Because we are not trying to duplicate or displace, much less disrespect ongoing efforts. And those are largely by organizations lead by the very beneficiaries we are intending to support through the resourcing. So letting us know of Page 46 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive
community based organizations we may not know is super helpful.
I would also say in the fervor to help I think we're getting something a little bit wrong. This is an example PayPal saying that they wanted to invest $530 into black and brown entrepreneurial led businesses. Great Instinct but I would say the point now is to make sure we shift control, power, assets, wealth, income and opportunity to black and brown lead organizations. Not to come in as an investor and then therefore become a predominately outside investment capitalized company. It would be much better to actually make equity grants and then allow the black, brown and female entrepreneurs who are running those businesses to recapitalize those businesses and to own those businesses. So that we shift power, control, assets, wealth and income to the communities it’s been stolen from for over 400 years. So I’m all for shifting assets right now. That’s not something that everyone can do. But the way you can do it is, if you don’t have assets to shift then shift the way your doing your business. Try to direct that business towards black, brown and female lead companies and organizations so that they have a bigger market share of the economy that you absolutely must be turned towards racial and gender Equity & environmental resiliency. What are the main challenges your receiving right now? Well every challenge I see, I actually see it as an opportunity, and in point of fact imagination always precedes accomplishment. So yes there are a few challenges in policing, in economic deprivation in political divisiveness. You know there's a lot that's not going on well. But as Muhammad Unis, the Founder of the Green Bank in Bangladesh, told me recently, “We need to invent a new civilization and when we do that we're going to achieve a lot more” racial and gender equity and environmental resilient because we know that we're not doing it now.
we don't have a resilient economy and it's certainly not fair as well. So those challenges, that's the cracks and we have to look where the light gets in and take advantage never waste a crisis, a crisis is actually a call to change and an opportunity to change.
What can People do to Help?
We have a hunch on how to change things for the better and motivation because we can't carry on like this. We can’t have more global pandemics which tend to come sometimes or maybe predominantly from the agricultural systems. And we can’t afford to have more police brutality just snuffing out lives and opportunity in the communities who deserve them most. And we can’t carry on in an economy that crashes. I heard one person say “Why is it when we only buy what we need the economy crashes?” So it’s not just that we have a forced economic shut down because of the pandemic, Page 47 E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive

Do you plan to communicate these social designs to those that are in power and express the importance of sharing and working on a Cooperative basis for change? I do get to walk in several worlds at once in fact I often say that I stand where several worlds collide. So I care deeply about people who may not have assets but can do something to change the world. I think we need to be strong allies for all of the popular movements that are trying to change the world right now, but I also have access to people who have wealth and assets and opportunities that others will not see unless we change something. I do council people, and this is about shifting assets and let's consider some migration
strategies to do, in a way, that palatable but get stronger over time. For instance, a lot of wealthy people have something called Donor Advisor Funds are the easiest charitable vehicle to set up. You simply transfer any kind of asset. I believe it's unlimited as to the kind of asset, you evaluate the asset and you take a tax deduction and you put that asset into a Donor Advised Fund through a qualified host. You don’t have an obligation to give that money away. There are dormant account policies at most of the host organizations.

But you can even transfer from DAF to DAF and probably meet those policies. That's not good public policy. we should not be diverting governmental tax proceeds now for a very uncertain benefits sometime in the future-which can actually even go into the next generation if you wanted to. So we've been very involved in DAF reform. We’re saying “No” those rules aren’t sensible for society and they are not fair. We need those government tax proceeds and likely you’re going to contribute to a cause down the road that was caused because we didn't have the governmental tax proceeds in the first place. For example, inadequate funding of public education. So, we have a couple of stick kinds of interventions like let's get the rules right so that you have to give it out in a certain amount of time. Another kind of stick is that it's just culturally inappropriate to hold on to these philanthropic assets forever and not have them working to support its public good. But the third is a carrot, let's think of what are Innovative ways to use these assets and there are some. For example, rather than give the whole asset away, you could pledge it as collateral for a Community Bond Issuance, Maybe an agricultural cooperative, or a renewable infrastructure or affordable housing. Take you asset and give it to another organization to use for 10 years to support that a community has decided is necessary for their own thriving and maybe even gives them some thing in the form of ownership but certainly community engagement and direction. And then you get it back in 10 years and in the meantime you can donate to income off of that. But that's an example of a light way to shift assets because it's about the assets more than it's about the income. So I hope if any people are listening to this interview who have Donor Advisor Fund, they would think about that. It’s a really powerful thing to do in this time of great inequity. The defining feature of a braisière is a tight-fitting lid with a raised rim that creates a platform on the top of the pan; the cook would nestle the braisière deep into the kitchen fire’s warm embers (in French, les braises) and pile more into the lid. This gentle enveloping heat would — you guessed it — braise the food over the course of hours, softening the meat and melding the flavors. now so far belong to our national cookery, as to be met with commonly at all refined modern tables.” Braising meets her threshold of excellence, and so Acton introduces the concept to her English readers in her nononsense way: “Braising is but a more expensive mode of stewing meat.” Elizabeth David (herself another similarly no-nonsense voice) names Acton as her favorite cookbook author of all time, and I can see why — this recipe, one of hundreds, speaks as clearly to me today as anything I can find in a modern cookbook:

It has qualities of different pots: the proportions of a stewpot; a fitted lifter, like a fish poacher; and the length and voluminous capacity of a daubière, sized for braising a piece of beef or lamb or even an entire chicken. common element in a French kitchen. An oval cocotte is ideally suited to braising the small to medium-sized proteins — chicken, game birds, cuts of beef and lamb — that are central to French cooking. There are so many oval cocottes on the vintage market that it’s possible to become a little “cocotteblind,” so to speak; but this one, owned by reader Stephen Whalen, has a level of finish that, while subtle, adds flair to the piece and also gives clues as to when it was made. First, take a look at the side handles. That downward-pointing peak on the baseplate is the classic antique French style, while most of the modern (that is, post-WWII) cocottes I’ve seen have a plainer lozenge-shaped baseplate. Also note the peak in the handgrips — it’s not so visible in this photo, but you can see it more clearly in the photos that follow — that adds some elegance. This more ornate styling suggests to me that this is a pan from the pre-war period, before these little flourished were smoothed out by mid-century sensibilities. Another clue is the design of the lid handle: two rivets on each bracket when only one is strictly necessary. This pan is neither large nor particularly heavy — the lid weighs 810g (about 1.7 lbs) — but these rivets give it the styling of a larger and heavier piece. (Think of this pan like the two-door model of a European sports car brand — it deliberately maintains the sumptuous trimmings of its larger and more powerful siblings to remind you that its small size does not mean it has skimped on luxury.) A good restoration can fix or minimize many of these problems but every injury leaves its trace.

hen talking about Italian wine there is a well of history to source from, when talking about wine in Lazio the task at hand almost feels daunting. Wine in Lazio stems to the Etruscans and then there is the Roman Empire that played a big part in spreading the art of winemaking also all through Europe. Now, I am not going to go too deep into the history of ancient Etruria or the Roman Era as there is not enough space or time for that here. The theme this month in the Italian Food, Wine, and Travel group is Lazio, more precisely Wine in Lazio: following in the footsteps of great history. So, I will talk about some memories from pre-pandemic wine trips to Lazio where I had the opportunity to visit various wineries. When going to Lazio, in most cases it means that you go to visit Rome without paying much attention to the other areas and provinces outside of Rome. It is true that tourists and wine lovers go almost everywhere nowadays in the search of more particular areas, however, still, it could be argued that Lazio lies a bit in the shadow of Rome. When it comes to wine, Lazio has been a region that has perhaps not been considered as one of the main wine areas of interest in Italy. Compared to regions such as Tuscany, Piemonte, Veneto, Friuli, to just name a few, Lazio can perhaps be said to also have been a bit in the shadow of Italy itself. Recently, this has started to change as the interest in native grapes and a focus on local winemaking traditions has reawakened overall in Italy. Let’s hope that post-pandemic travel and tourism will be more sustainable and bring about a slower pace together with an interest in visiting lesser-known areas.

Native Grapes in Lazio via Rapillo Winery
Grapes of Italy, pp. 385-386). The Passerina grapes in Lazio are smaller and in some areas are said to give more aromatic wines.
Lazio can make a show of fascinating grapes such as Bellone, Passerina (del Frusinate), Malvasia del Lazio, Cesanese del Piglio and d’Affile, and Nero Buono. In an earlier article, I talked about mainly Bellone and Nero Buono so here I will focus more on Passerina and Cesanese del Piglio and d’Affile.
On a sunny afternoon, we were driving towards the small Rapillo winery just outside Serrano, in the province of Frosinone, in Lazio. While driving, the sky started getting cloudy and turned quite sturm und drang. After that, it was like the sky opened up and the rain started pouring down. We were not discouraged though, when we arrived we got out of the car and ran towards the winery doors where we entered a small winery cellar that is more or less the cellar below their house. It was a universe of its own where we discovered down-to-earth winemaking focused on low intervention (natural wines, though I prefer to not use that term).
Passerina Honestly, I had never tasted a Passerina del Frusinate and knew close to nothing about it until I went on a short press trip to Lazio a couple of years ago. The hashtag of that trip was #campagnaromane and the aim was to draw attention to the countryside outside of Rome. In general, we know the Passerina grape to be native to Le Marche and Abruzzo, but it is also grown in Lazio. The Passerina grown in Lazio is considered to be considerably different from the Passerina in Abruzzo and Le Marche. Still, a lot of tests and research need to be here, according to Ian D’Agatha (Native Wine

1825, according to Ian D’Agatha (Native Wine Grapes of Italy, pp. 246-247). A funny anecdote is that apparently the porn star Savanna Samson’s first wine in 2004 also put Cesanese on the international map. She has a winery in Lazio where Roberto Cipressi, a well-known winemaker, is working with her. I have not tasted her Cesanese, but I am sure it is a nice wine. However, let’s face it…boobs sell wine…whether it’s a famous porn star or a meager female wine influencer. There are two different varieties of Cesanese, that is the Cesanese comune that you can find a bit all over Lazio and the Cesanese d’Affile which is specific to the area around the town Affile not far from Rome. The Cesanese del Piglio that is produced in the southern part of the Frosinone province is a DOCG while the Cesanese d’Affile and Cesanese Olevano Romano are DOC wines.

Cesanese Cesanese is a wine that has been enjoyed since ancient times. Pliny the Elder talked about a red wine produced on the hills in the “Cesae” area in his Naturalis Historia. “Cesae” apparently means clearings, i.e. the clearings where trees had been cut down to be able to plant vineyards. The Roman Emperor Nerva is also said to have liked wines that were made around Piglio, so much so that he decided to build a house there. Rapillo winery makes three different Cesanese del Piglio DOCG wines. Here, I will talk about their Trasimondo Cesanese del Piglio DOCG as it is a quite particular wine. When they described it to me it sounded more like an Amarone made with Cesanese, and I was intrigued. A part of the grapes are dried – appassite – and then wine undergoes two fermentations making it into a very unique wine. Even though a part of the grapes are appassite, the wine is still dry with lots of notes of the classical notes of cherry and spices, creamy texture, and it has a body and structure that makes it special. They told me that they wanted to better enhance the characteristics of the local territory with this wine. A wine definitely to taste if you can find it. Their production is very small but I think they have an importer and some minor presence in the US.
