later Tuesday. Massa, who visited Bianchi at the hospital on Sunday, was himself the victim of a serious injury in 2009 when he was struck by a part of another car that had come loose. Formula One’s governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), said the Marussia driver had suffered a “severe head injury”. FIA press officer Matteo Bonciani told reporters at the hospital on Monday evening: “It should be understood that it is very, very serious.” In a statement, Marussia thanked fans for the “huge outpouring of support and affection for Jules and the
team”. They said information about the driver’s condition would only be released with the blessing of his family. “Together with Jules’ care, they will remain our highest priority. Therefore, we would ask for patience and understanding with regard to further medical updates, which will be communicated in conjunction with the Mie General Medical Center in Yokkaichi, where Jules is being treated, when they feel it is appropriate. “Representatives of the Marussia F1 Team and Scuderia Ferrari will remain at the hospital to support Jules and the Bianchi family.” The race on Sunday was stopped shortly after Bianchi’s

crash with championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who was leading at the time, declared the winner. Organisers have come in for criticism over the timing of the race, which went ahead despite torrential downpours caused by an approaching typhoon. Drivers repeatedly complained that they could not see properly because of the spray and the fading light. “I was already screaming on the radio five laps before the safety car that there was too much water on the track,” Massa said Sunday. “But they took a bit too long and it was dangerous. So we saw that there were some crashes at the end.”
Aus Open hikes prizemoney by 10% M elb o urne , O c t 7 (Agencies): The Australian Open will hike total prizemoney 10 percent in 2014 to A$36 million ($31.44 million), organisers said on Tuesday. The Australian dollar has retreated by over six percent against the U.S dollar over the past month, but the 2015 prize pool is still competitive against last year`s A$33 million, which was worth about $29 million when Stan Wawrinka and Li Na clinched the men`s and women`s singles titles. Organisers also launched the newly renovated Margaret Court Arena, which will provide a third covered show court after Rod Laver Arena`s centre court and the Hisense Arena.

Federer and Nadal bid to dethrone Djokovic in Shanghai SHANGHAI, OCT 7 (AFP): Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal enter this week’s Shanghai Masters bidding to unseat current champion Novak Djokovic, who appears on an unstoppable march to ending the year as number one for the third time. “Incredible” was how the Serbian described his victory in the China Open final on Sunday, one of the most one-sided tennis finals of recent years. “With this kind of performance, and with this domination result-wise, I mean it’s never happened,” Djokovic said after defeating world number six Tomas Berdych 6-0, 6-2. The victory represented Djokovic’s fifth consecutive Beijing title, and the 27-yearold is vying for his third in three years at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Shanghai. “I’m going to try to use this great week to kind of carry this overall positive feeling into Shanghai and have another great week there,” he said. Hoping to derail Djokovic’s plans are a resurgent Federer, along with Nadal, who is battling to be at his world-beating best after his return to action following three months on the sidelines. The Spaniard, who is number two in the ATP rankings, missed a string of tournaments -- including the US Open -- after picking up a wrist injury in training in late July. His return to competition at the China Open ended abruptly when he was dumped out of the tournament by Slovak qualifier Martin Klizan in the quarter finals. The 14-time Grand Slam winner is seeded second in Shanghai but was the first to criticise his performance -- and

The Mpai Village Council hereby reaffirm and clarify that Mr. Lalal whose appointment as J.E. in PWD Dept. has been kept in abeyance is originally from our village. There should be no doubt whatsoever about his origin. His roots, i.e. the Haihing clan can be tracked back to 6th–7th generation from this village. As such, aspersion cast on the person concern being Rongmei tribe in some local daily issues is not correct and hurtful. Therefore we the Mpai Village Council strongly appeal the Government of Nagaland to expediate the appointment process to the deserving person, i.e. Lalal Haihing at the earliest. Now I can just go out and play.” Federer’s best showing at the Masters 1000 event was as runner up in 2010, although he did win in Shanghai when it hosted the Tennis Masters Cup in 2006 and 2007. The Swiss could overtake his great rival Nadal in the rankings in Shanghai, but both are some distance behind Djokovic. Elsewhere, two-time Shanghai winner Andy Murray is desperately chasing points as he pushes to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals, the end of season finale involving the top eight players. The 27-year-old Scot is currently ninth in the race for the London tournament after winning the Shenzhen Open at the end of last month, but faces competition from the rising stars of tennis who will also be in Shanghai.

his mental state -- in Beijing. “What affects this is when one player plays bad, plays without rhythm, no confidence on the shots, having more mistakes than usual, being not confident how to play the points, and how to win the points,” he said. Federer, however, has enjoyed a remarkable return to form after a miserable 2013, when the 33-year-old claimed only one title, failed to make any Grand Slam finals and finished outside the top five for the first time in 11 years. The third seed in Shanghai, he has won a record 17 Grand Slams and said he was better prepared mentally for the tournament this year following his turnaround on the court. “Last year was a struggle throughout, especially starting in March last year all the way to, I’d say, about here,” Federer said, explaining that he had been “missing practice sessions” and avoiding intensive training as he was “scared” of getting injured. “All of that has gone

Bianchi’s F1 crash footage emerges
Tokyo, Oct 7 (AFP): Horrifying footage has emerged showing the moment Jules Bianchi’s speeding Formula One car smashed into a stationary tractor-crane, leaving him fighting for his life in a Japanese hospital with serious head injuries. The 25-year-old Frenchman was said to be “critical, but stable” after surgery in the wake of the terrifying smash on a rain-soaked Suzuka circuit on Sunday. The film, posted on YouTube, shows his out-of-control Marussia slamming into the back of the yellow recovery vehicle, sparks flying as the body of the car slides underneath its raised rear end. The impact, which appears to be at around Bianchi’s helmet height, shears off the air intake cover that protrudes above the back of the driver’s head. Formula One has regularly been rocked by debate over open-top cockpits, which offer drivers little head protection. In slow-motion, the video appears to show Bianchi’s helmet rebounding violently off the heavy lifting vehicle, which is bounced into the air by the force of the impact. The vehicle was trying to remove Adrian Sutil’s stricken Sauber, which had crashed at the same spot on the circuit a lap earlier. B i a n c h i ’s p a r e n t s, Philippe and Christine, were at their son’s hospital bedside Tuesday awaiting the arrival of celebrated French surgeon Gérard Saillant, who treated Michael Schumacher after his near-fatal skiing accident last December. Nicolas Todt, who is the agent for the young driver, along with F1 veteran Felipe Massa, was expected to arrive
