DIMAPUR: Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch (IDANSB) has resolved to make all the Dental Clinics across the state a “TobaccoFree Clinic”. This initiative by IDANSB is first of its kind in the Country. It is to discourage the various abuses of tobacco and its products. The 12th annual general meeting cum continuing dental education (CDE) of Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch (IDANSB) was held at held at Tourist Lodge, Wokha October 3 and 4. The inaugural function was graced by deputy commissioner (DC) Wokha Robin Lotha as chief guest.
In his speech, DC Wokha stressed on the need of more dental surgeons to be posted in rural areas to give general awareness on the importance of Oral health. He urged the dental surgeons to serve the people with sincerity. He also appreciated the annual conference where members discussed and learnt about the fast developing science of dentistry. According to Addl. SP / PRO Dimapur, Wati on Tuesday, two extortionists identified as Atoka Awomi and Lutoi Chophy were apprehended while they were allegedly collecting illegal taxes from business establishments in Old Market, Dimapur in the name of NSCN (K). One illegal tax slip and cash amounting to Rs.1500 were recovered from their possession. Case had been registered against the two for investigation, Wati said in a statement. On October 2, Dimapur police arrested one person identified as Mughato Awomi (23) from “Itta Bata”, Zani village while he was collecting illegal tax in the name of NSCN
(I-M) and FGN. Tax challan of FGN, two motor cycles and cash amounting to Rs 1100 was recovered and seized from his possession, PRO said. The arrested person has been collecting taxes for the two organizations for the past three months, police said. In another incident, Dimapur police nabbed six persons on October 2 from Kushiabill area for collecting illegal taxes from trucks carrying local sand and bricks. Police identified the six as Akashe Chopy (32), Shikato Chopy (34), Hotokhu Chopy (33) , Zubemo Merry (28) , Kitoka Chopy (19) and Vikaho Sema (27). Cash amounting to Rs.14,367 with the list of the vehicles from whom the illegal taxes were collected along with three bottles of whisky, 26 canned beer, three bottles of rum and a motor bike (pulsar) were seized from their possession, PRO stated.

CWWS annual general assembly DIMAPUR: Chakhesang women welfare society (CWWS) conducted its 38th annual general assembly from October 3-5 at Chakhesang mission centre, Pfutsero on the theme ‘a wise woman’. Altogether, 260 delegates from different villages in Phek district along with CWWS office bearers participated in the event. The programme was marked by display of crafts by trainees of the CWWS tailoring unit. The trainees were also given course completion certificates and felicitated HSLC examination toppers. Meanwhile, the house resolved on certain resolutions including resolution to respect of womanhood, condemnation of rape, and appealed all men to respect womenhood. The house resolved to preserve and promote the rich cultural and traditional values by encouraging Chakhesang women to wear traditional attires during Sunday worship services and other important occasions. House resolved on stopping proxy teacher appointment. It was also resolved to support Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act and appealed to the policy makers and government to strengthen the Act. Further, house reaffirmed the 2nd resolution of the 36th general session to maintain clean and fair election. The house agreed to initiate climate change awareness by adopting strategies and sensitizing the people to conserve, preserve forest and wildlife.
Govt. approves infrastructure development in Mangkolemba
DIMAPUR: Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Benjongliba Aier, while addressing monthly meeting of the Mangkolemba SDPDB, informed the house that the proposal for development of infrastructure in Mangkolemba was approved by the government. He said funds were awaited for the projects including the road to the hospital, Mangkolemba. Monthly meeting of the Mangkolemba Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) meeting was held October 7 at the Customary Law Court under the chairmanship of minister Dr. Benjongliba Aier. According to a DIPR report, the house also discussed on the Mangko to Longnak road, where a major landslide occurred during the monsoon and decided to
issue an order not to let any heavy vehicles ply for the time being. Deliberating on the application submitted by the Baptist Higher Secondary School, Mangkolemba headmaster, the house approved the grand-in aid, after the acceptance of the application by the SDEO. The village council highlighted on the up gradation of GPS Japu to GMS and the house informed the school and the council to submit the necessary document to ADC at the earliest. On the creation of sub centre at Moayimti Village, the house decided to peruse the matter to the concerned department. ADC further introduced the newly constituted ad hoc council members to the house. The
council was constituted on September 29, 2014 with 10 members. Parliamentary secretary for labour and employment Dr. Longrineken, while congratulating the new ad hoc council members urged them to work for the betterment of the village with dedication and sincerity. He further requested all government officers and staff to attain office regularly. Earlier at the meeting, the house welcomed ADC Mangkolemba Limawabang Jamir, who recently assumed the office. SYO condemns assault on member
DIMAPUR: Seiyhama Youth Organization (SYO) has strongly condemned the assault on one of its members - Khriezotuou Thepa allegedly by four GPRN/NSCN cadres under the command of one Dinikam on September 27 at Nikio ‘B’ Village, Peren district. In a press release, SYO president Kehounei-u Thernuo and general secretary Mhaphroneizo Zumu said the GPRN/NSCN cadres came to a work-site and asked for a bike which belonged to one of the workers there who was taken to one room. When Khriezotuou who was the work in-charge asked if they had done anything wrong and told the cadres that they were there to render service to those in need, the cadres allegedly pointed a gun at him and started beating him. The cadres also allegedly told him “Apuni Angami mano hoi para photani ase? Apuni Angami mano nimite life debo pari bo?” After assaulting him, the cadres took away the bike and did not return. Khriezo-
tuou briefed about the incident to the Village Council secretary and both went to the house of Dinakam. There, Dinakam allegedly beat up Khriezotuou along with the rest of the cadres. The council secretary was also injured when he tried to stop the cadres from assaulting Khriezotuou. After that Khriezotuou was blind folded and at gun-point allegedly threatened him with chopping off his and the council secretary’s head into four pieces if they leaked the news of the incident, said the press release. SYO also said that the cadres warned Khriezotuou with “bullet” if he returned to his work-site. The cadres also “directly challenged” the Angami community, alleged SYO. The organization has now appealed GPRN/ NSCN to book the culprits at the earliest so as to prevent “unwanted situation” in future stating that SYO would not retreat if justice was not delivered. The organization asked all to condemn the “barbaric act”.

DIMAPUR: CHILDLINE 1098 has stated that a purported chain mail, circulating through social networking apps in Dimapur that says “one should call up CHILDLINE 1098 to pick up leftover food after a party or function etc so that it is not wasted”, was not true. Stating that it was India’s only and most widespread Children’s phone emergency outreach service (1098) for children in need of care and protection under the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development Govt. of India, CHILDLINE 1098 said they do not pick up food or distribute food. “This mail was not initiated by us, kindly do not circulate it. Your cooperation is appreciated,” CHILDLINE 1098 has appealed.

Veterans and Veer Naris participate at the interaction organized by 164 Inf Bn (TA) (H&H) NAGA
DIMAPUR: 164 Inf Bn (TA) (H&H) NAGA conducted interaction with Veterans and Veer Naris of Kumaon and Naga regiment from September 20 to October 4, at various locations across the state of Nagaland.
On September 20, interaction was carried out at Meluri, Phek and a total of six veterans attended the event. On September 23, event was organized at Tuensang where 29 veterans and one veer nari were present. Wokha saw an attendance of 30
veterans September 27. Mon district witnessed 45 veterans on September 29, while13 veterans including three veer Naris were interacted on October 1, at Dimapur. The event culminated on October 4 at Zakhama where
a total of nine veterans were present. The exercise was carried out under the project ‘NIRANTAR MILAP’ which started 2013 by Colonel of the regiment. The aim of the project was to carry out continuous interaction with Veterans, Veer Naris and dependents of the regiment. The interaction was organized twice in a year with the noble cause of mitigating the problems of Veterans, Veer Naris and dependents on regular basis by reaching out to the far flung areas. The interaction involved briefing of various welfare schemes, provision of medical assistance and CSD facilities. A detailed feedback on the grievances was taken from the veterans for onward submission to records, The KUMAON Regt centre & PAO (OR) for resolving their problems. The event saw overwhelming response from the veterans. Few veterans from other Regiments also attended the interaction and a separate feedback was taken as an additional welfare measure as part of the exercise.
DIMAPUR: GPRN/NSCN has vehemently condemned the NSCN (I-M)’s action where one “captain” Dikho, son of late Lokho Taphou of Shepoumaramth Region was allegedly “abducted and murdered” by the NSCN (I-M) town command, Senapati. In a press release, MIP GRN/ NSCN stated that Dikho was abducted September 2, 2014 and found murdered September 3, 2014 and his dead body recovered about 7 km away from Senapati town. GPRN/NSCN termed it “very
unfortunate” that on one hand, NSCN (I-M) “Supremo” Isak Swu through was asking the Nagas to pray for them, specifically the Churches October 19 with regard to the ongoing talks between GoI and NSCN (I-M) while on the other hand their ‘trigger happy’ cadres were involved in ‘forceful abduction/s’ and committing ‘Murder/s most foul’. “GPRN/NSCN leaves it for the ‘Nagas’ to judge for themselves the sincerity of the IMs when they continuously talks of Peace,” release stated. Organizations condemn harassment by AR
DIMAPUR: Aghunaqa Area Students’ Union (AASU) has condemned the alleged harassment meted out to Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) president and his colleagues on October 1 by the personnel of 29 Assam Riffles at NST Colony, Dimapur. In a press release, AASU vice-president Pito Yeptho said around 20 AR unit personnel in combat gears surrounded the union president’s residence and harassed them
without any reasons. The Aghunaqa Area Students’ Union has urged the right thinking citizens and the student bodies to come forward and protest against such “inhabitant act”. It further asked the higher authorities to look into the matter. In a separate press release, East Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (EDSSU) also condemned the incident, saying despite the victim identifying himself was alleg-
edly harassed for more than an hour. EDSSU president Kanato S. Awomi and general secretary Abeto K. Achumi alleged that the victim was forced to sign “readymade NOC format”.
